The Tai culture is very rich and So beautiful heritage ,i have visited to Tai Family They were the Royal people It felt so good the preserved the history , I visited the Tinisukia Assam , Tai Ahoms and Arunchal Pradesh of Tai Khamte and Manipur also Tai Meitei peoples their culture are much alike I really want to study their history , Culture and Language In my lifetime I have a goal for that I will visit China , Myanmar , Thailand , Vietnam and Laos Along with the Indian Parts of the Northeast And i will study the mostalike i will also see the heritage can still be traced to those country ! That explains your DNA results. Northeast Indians are majority Sino-Tibetan people, they share the same genes as Han Chinese because they come from the same ancestors few thousand years ago. Your mum is not Han Chinese but she should be ethnic Tani. You can read this article below.

Many Assamese people were bring to Myanmar as hostage after Yandaboo treaty 1826
Our Ahom Princess of Tungkhungia clan named Hemo Aideo was given in marriage to Burmese King Bodawpaya, she was own sister of Swargadeo Jogeswar Singha. Many Assamese people who were servant of the Princess gone along with her to Myanmar and settled there. This marriage occurred because Swargadeo Chandrakanta Singha and Badan Chandra Borphukan made treaty with the Burmese general and the Burmese general demanded an Ahom princess in marriage for the Burmese monarch, along with other presents so Hemo Aideo was selected.

Tibeto-Burman groups have always been in the area where they are now,South Asia. Only the Han went to the north. Nagas were even mentioned during the time of the buddha. Note that Sinitic and Tibeto-Burman are at least 8000 years apart.

Is meetei related to Tai?
Mee tei literal meaning is People of Tei which is spelled Tei but pronounced Tai...
In terms of culture they are very much related to the Tai, dances are similar and Dragon worship is also similar... The prayer flag in Meetei are also the same as some Tai religion groups.
While some Meetei claim to be brother of Tangkhul, that theory doesn't have any historical evidence. But in the Meitei Royal chronicle, it's recorded that Meitei is the younger brother of Pong(Shan).
But some Meitei won't claim to be Tai while some other claim to be Tai.

Myself ahom, I believe we should have stayed true to our roots for a longer time and should have adopted Buddhism later on. Instead we made a mistake and converted to hindu.
Well you should have kept your blood pure like Shans instead of Sanskritizing. Now the illustrious Tai Ahoms dont have their script, language or Gods, even their racial fearures are hard to distinguish from caste Hindus.
