    I have a p216 onan on my welder with the same problem if i give alittle chock it will wuit and once it runs for awhile i can take the choke off and it runs like new .my guess is the carb needs a good cleaning she is 25 years old now and been rode hard without much maintenance at all just gas and oil and for the last couple of years she has just set quite abit.todays gas really sucks.going to clean her good after this job is done hope she makes it that long.

      If it will run with choke then it's lean and most likely carb related.

    Looks like your governor return spring is in the wrong hole. Should be in the third hole from the pivot, then adjust your carb properly. Air mixture screw should start out at 1 1/2 turns from closed position, then turn either way at 1/8” increments as needed.

      I moved it to get more rpm. It took a few carb cleanings and then turning the screw out more then 1.5 turns.

      @@DickWheels shouldn’t do that could get to much rpm and ruin the engine

    Could be an intake leak the intakes on these are silicon on the middle to seal it might be leaking air causing an air to fuel issue or your float could have a hole in it or the needle is not sealing properly or the float level could be off or maybe just dirt in it

      It’s not an intake leak… he tested it by spraying parts cleaner on it

    • @hunter7476
      @hunter7476 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@reggieanderson885 I guess but it’s not an accurate test a better way would’ve been a leak down tester and blocking off the intake.

      That’s why it’s hunting. He hasn’t adjusted the governor to run in the new position. I had a bent throttle arm going to the carb on an Onan P218G, and it did exactly this. Bent the arm back up, and presto, problem solved.

    I had the same problem with my 520 with the snowblower hooked up. Seems like the air bleeds get clogged up and its difficult to get them clean. It would only happen at full throttle or under a load.

      These cards are a real pain in the ass. The engine is extremely picky too

    i have a 416-8 and it bogs down in a bit of heavy grass, i did the check to see if both sides of the block are running and it seems to only be running on one spark plug. i also noticed little pops every now and then. should i replace the coil or plugs and wires or should i take my head off for that side and replace the head gasket or maybe check my valves for that side? if i need any parts where can i get them from? should i stay away from the stuff on amazon?

    When the engine is off should the tension spring be keeping the governor against the screw or off of it?

    can that carb be rebuilt on the engine? I have a Ingersoll 3016 doing the same.

    What is that stuff you’re spraying on the intake manifold, and why? I have a problem with my J Deere 316 P2 Onan surging.

      He is spraying a flammable fluid like brake cleaner around the Manifold and listening to hear of there is an increase in engine RPM. If there was a air leak the will idle up. Surging is generally . cause be an improper mister of air and fuel

    Right next to the carburetor there's a adjustment screw just trying to adjust a little bit and the loving will stop

    • @DickWheels
      @DickWheels  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's just the idle mix screw. Although opening it about 5 turns helps, it doesn't idle well as its way too rich. It's also not the right thing to do and indicated there is an issue elsewhere

      DickWheels so, the only other way it can be surging is if they manifold gasket is leaking.

    Would you happen to know the part number of that oil dipstick? The oil cap broke, ive just bought it from a previous owner.

      That new carb in the video was from a 520. No matter how I jetted it it just never worked right. I found another correct carb and after a good few day soak in cleaner then into the ultrasonic...she is fixed.

      @@DickWheels I'm going to have to buy an ultrasonic. Got a B43E on my John Deere that's been kicking my ass for years. Got it to run perfect the other day after revealing the intake, now it's back to sputtering and running like crap. I have tried 2 carbs, which both were freshly cleaned out with air, brushes, simple green the other day before I put either of them on the tractor. Beyond frustrated with this thing, haven't been able to mow my own lawn with it
