    I just started rebuilding ONON engines. Amazing beefy engines... Working on a B48 P220 20hp opposed twin for a friend. Challenging complete rebuild...

      Correct. Just for the startup I left the sheilds off the bottom . The front shroud is enough for a short run. The final assembly had all the sheilds installed

    You build these Onan engines? Do you have a website or contact info? I’m building a few and always looking for parts - like exhaust tubes for the CCKB.

    • @parkerstutsman7181
      @parkerstutsman7181  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I only buit 3 of them after I found one and then bought a bulk lot of 4 engine in rough shape that needed some work. I had to order all the parts on ebay. Exhaust components were the hardest to find because the steel seemed to thin for use as headers.

      parker stutsman yeah :) it’s such a dumb thing to get stuck on too so unless you have a welder, pipe bending skills, and the tools to cut the flanges it’s a major pain. I’m putting a points box on now and it’s so unclear how to adjust everything to get it right.

    Do they sell performance parts for these so that I can get rid of the governor eventually I want to do a mud mower build on a sears suburban garden tractor and if it comes with one of these I might want to do a performance build on it to save a little money

      I belive the motors are very reliable, they are simple and built well. They used these engines in kit aircrafts. I've seen many people say they get 1750-2000 hours. The issue is lubrication of the cylinder walls. Being opposed and laying on the side rings wear out and can cause cylinder wall wear.

      Actually im in the process of putting an onan engine on a gokart, big issue with mine is the driveshaft is 1-1/2 inch in diameter and the biggest clutches and torque converters only come in 1 inch diameter. So as of right now im seeing how id run a jackshaft with a torque converter.

      I've rebuit 2 and restored parts for sale. I haven't done them in a while now. I have a miata I'm almost done with and 2 polaris ATVs that had engine rebuilds now. If you believe the engine has just typical wear then it would be good to rebuild. Its when you have to buy a new block that the choice is hard. I'm not sure I am ready for another project just yet.

      My onan gt 19.9 does have points and a condenser but not the 18

    Parker, I have a P224G that ran fine before it lost compression. Reworked the motor put it back together and I do not get ignition. I have spark, compression and fuel but no Bang. even with starting fluid it does not run. Do you think I have the timing off? I am reasonably sure that the timing marks where lined up on cam to crank. I will double check but any other ideas please ?

    • @parkerstutsman7181
      @parkerstutsman7181  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does it use a pickup at the flywheel or points like my engine?

    • @vincentprocaccini
      @vincentprocaccini 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@parkerstutsman7181 pickup at the crank shaft. I have taken the plugs and zip tide them to the muffler pipes. Crank it over and both plugs have spark. I see plenty of fuel at the plugs.........

    • @parkerstutsman7181
      @parkerstutsman7181  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vincentprocaccini i feel like it has to be due to timing. But one thing about these engines that you won't notice easily is if the cank and cam are not timed correctly. Its easy to tell by taking a head off and turning the engine slowly. If you can clearly see each stroke and get to the ignition pickup point on the crank just before top dead center with both valves closed you can verify you are close. I would be willing to say you may be seeing ignition just before your intake at the end of an exhaust stroke.

    • @parkerstutsman7181
      @parkerstutsman7181  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vincentprocaccini also reason I say its hard to notice is because your valves will never impact the cylinder head which makes this a great engine to learn to rebuild. Hard to really damage much.
