For sure!!!!!!! He posts short videos on his FB page a few times a week, playing music and talking about it for a minute, as he recuperates from some medical, while we're on lockdown. You might want to visit his page if you haven't. Great guy.
I just saw Petty the other month, and the guy was so humble. Almost every time the crowd cheered he thanked the crowd, and with a smile. I've been to a lot of concerts over the years and never saw anyone so gracious. He could have done the big rockstar thing and just said thank you good night at the end of the show, but I really think he appreciated how much his fans liked him and his music.
PearlJamaholic I've been to so many concerts started going in the early 70's, their's was the best I've ever seen. A big sing a long and yes very gracious. It's nice to hear them thank us.
Tom Petty was a true southern gentlemen.. As long as you appreciated him, his band, and his music, he would play and play as long as he was allowed to. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform 5 times, and was looking forward to number 6... He's greatly missed...
PearlJamaholic exactly right about Petty. My dad took me to my first concert to see him when I was 7 yrs old. Saw him 13 times after that, such a genuine guy.
NFL take a note , this a halftime show just a man and his ass kickin music you don’t need a bunch of half dressed girls wiggling and jiggling, just good music from one of the best rockers ever
No it’s got nothing to do with me. It’s the fact that small children are watching and the NFL should be more responsible for presenting there halftime shows in a way that is acceptable for everybody
I remember watching this superbowl at a bar & grill. Me and my friends all ran up an insane tab by halftime and decided we needed to leave and cut our losses. I made every single person stay for this half time show and we went back home during the 3rd quarter. Everybody was mad that they missed much of the 3rd quarter but I wasn't going to miss Tom Petty. RIP.
Most of them are using walkers. And canes. And have long since nit been able to get out and do a rock 'n' roll come back for the Super Bowl. Let's face it kiddos we are not young. I'm 73 and I'm feeling every 73 of it these days. But I know what you're saying.., he himself said I don't do no tour without doing at least new songs. I don't want to be some rock legend tour. He understood..
How can anyone give this a thumbs down? Had the absolute privilege of seeing the guys play at Hyde Park this summer. We have lost another true great and the world of music is a lot poorer as a result. RIP
This performance is the one that made me decide that music was the life I wanted. So many years later and I'm still chasing that dream and it's all thanks to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Miss this man so much, thank you so much for the incredible music!
such a beautiful thing, expecially the never ending gems waiting to be uncovered if one looks past the radio, like Audio Archaeology a neverending food for the soul. Wow, never thought I'd ever live to see this. Actual real musicians playing real instruments playing all original songs at a Super Bowl Halftime show. And they nailed it!
I was so fortunate to see Tom and The Heartbreakers in July this year in Hyde Park London. Still on the top of his game and so much love from the crowd for Tom and the band. Gone too soon but what a musical legacy he leaves.
That was a fortunate event indeed. I have seen scores of shows in my life, but I never had the privilege to attend a Tom Petty show. I have his first 10 years all on vinyl and some of his later works on CD. That is a memory to cherish.
Trump is a FIGHTER 17-0 16 Reps & 1 Crooked Hillary I watch obsessively. My thoughts exactly. HE ROCKED THE HOUSE ! Screw the football game! His face when they began Runnin’ down a dream.....priceless. He enjoyed every second of what he did. I watch interviews and wonder....did he have a clue how much he himself was loved? Of course his music....but I never personally cared for any other rock singer. Not from the heart like I do him.
Had the honour of showing up to Petty's Hyde Park gig in 2017. The Lumineers and Stevie Nicks were supporting. It was unbelievable. For a huge outdoor gig, it felt so intimate. The only time I've ever cried upon hearing that somebody i never knew personally had passed away was when this legend died just a few months later. Rest in peace, Tom. You'll still be on the stereos long after we've all joined you in paradise, mate 🍻🤘
There is something about his voice and the emotion he offered up this performance, pouring himself into these songs at this venue that catches me like a quick stab of melancholy. He's pouring out every bit of heart and soul in this performance. If I hear one of the songs from this night, I recognize it out of all the other performances. It's so effortless and sincere and masterful and loving and humble. It feels like he's just truly touched to be there. American Girl becomes more of a favorite the older I get. I just love this performance. He's telling the fans, I love you, and I think he felt it returning like a tidal wave back over him. Tom is one of the best, it still hurts that he's gone. I love his story telling and his voice and music his wit, and his ability to lay bare the most vulnerable emotion you could never put into words, and he does it with seeming ease. Thanks for this diamond, Tom Petty, and the rest of the Heartbreakers.
What a legend! I grew up on his music and will always have it in my phone, my computer, my head and more than anything...in my Heart! RIP Tom...Love you man!

And TP and The Heartbreakers didn't over use studio tricks, when recording they didn't forget they are a live band, they kept it simple.
Im so sad i didnt get a chance to ever see him, hes top best all time ever. A legend, no one will ever come close to him!
Rock'n'roll badass, how could you not love Tom Petty.
And Elvis was his inspiration!!!!!
@@elvicare35 Bob Dylan was a pretty big influence on him as well
The best Halftime Show ever. There's no comparison!
cmusic05 Exactly. He just played his music. No spectacle or gimmicks. Perfect example of how less is more.
I love Tom Petty but Prince had the best halftime show.
Tom Petty was easily one of the best halftime shows ever..... But Prince was legendary.
At the best super bowl ever. (Yes I’m a biased giants fan lol but still what a game)
I agree 100%! Excellent halftime show - amazing singer!
The solo at the end of "Running down a dream" makes Mike Campbell the coolest guy on earth at that moment. My God!
For sure!!!!!!! He posts short videos on his FB page a few times a week, playing music and talking about it for a minute, as he recuperates from some medical, while we're on lockdown. You might want to visit his page if you haven't. Great guy.
Mike Campbell is the coolest guy on earth at any moment...
Check out Mike's band The Dirty Knobs. Great band.
Mike Campbell has gone on to play with Fleetwood Mac ❤️😘
My absolute favorite petty song
This is the best halftime show I've ever seen ❤️ Thank you Tom Petty. You'll forever live on...
PearlJamaholic want to cry
True especially since most celebrities seem to have an ego nowadays
A true American icon. The best Superbowl halftime show ever!
NFL take a note , this a halftime show just a man and his ass kickin music you don’t need a bunch of half dressed girls wiggling and jiggling, just good music from one of the best rockers ever
So only your taste in music is allowed?
No it’s got nothing to do with me. It’s the fact that small children are watching and the NFL should be more responsible for presenting there halftime shows in a way that is acceptable for everybody
Ok boomer
-Donpi- you know this is so much better
Ass kicking music and undressed girls is want I want for my little children
Not only the best Super Bowl halftime show, but one of the best live mainstream tv performances all time. And I’m not even some super fan. Amazing
Best storyteller ever still cannot believe he is gone. Thank you for all the memories you put in my heart
NOW THIS is how you do a goddamn halftime show.
yes
You said it!!! Perfect halftime show! Perfect singer/band!
A-FUCKING-MEN
Rest in peace to one of the most chilled, laid back, humble, but most of all, BADASS, AWESOME, INCREDIBLE rock stars in history.
Real singing, full of talent, best half time show ever
I remember watching this superbowl at a bar & grill. Me and my friends all ran up an insane tab by halftime and decided we needed to leave and cut our losses. I made every single person stay for this half time show and we went back home during the 3rd quarter. Everybody was mad that they missed much of the 3rd quarter but I wasn't going to miss Tom Petty. RIP.
RIP. Tom Petty was an amazing singer, song writer, musician, performer, and best of all all story teller. Gone way too soon.
Toon Colors I agree!!😢
He absolutely nails every song! Please bring back rock and roll legends to the Super Bowl!
Best super bowl halftime show ever. No BS, just banged out some hits. RIP Tom.
Prince was better....
Been obsessed with this guy since I was 16, pain like I lost a friend. Best musician ever.
Same .
How can anyone give this a thumbs down? Had the absolute privilege of seeing the guys play at Hyde Park this summer. We have lost another true great and the world of music is a lot poorer as a result. RIP
AMEN
An ALL AMERICAN MAN...........Tom, Thank you for GREAT MUSIC So many PHENOMENAL Albums, SONGS, and TOURS. R.I.P. TOM, 🎸❤
i do a few on utube johnny large
This performance is the one that made me decide that music was the life I wanted. So many years later and I'm still chasing that dream and it's all thanks to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Miss this man so much, thank you so much for the incredible music!
It was bob dylan for me
such a beautiful thing, expecially the never ending gems waiting to be uncovered if one looks past the radio, like Audio Archaeology a neverending food for the soul. Petty was an endless clear running spring deeply tapped into something universal and elemental.
hard to describe. He deeply appreciated and was a very thankful guy..
Aren’t you “running down a dream”?
“I’m gonna free fall, out in to nothin’... gonna leave this, world for a while... yea I’m free!”
-Tom Petty
RIP
Ohh geez this brings tears to my eyes..this will be my ringtone.no Wonder my man ..who hangs out with him now 🚬🎸😎 admired him so much..listen to crowd..
He hasn't left hes just standing in the shadows
Yeah, I got that too. It makes his parting not so sad. Same for Alvin Lee.
An angel of the utmost favor 💞🌹
"God it's so painful, something that's so close, and still so far out of reach." One of the most poignant lyrics ever.
Heaven has to have some fantastic concerts.....
you should read Rock and Roll Heaven by Stephen King
Frank Castle no bob?
Frank Castle shoot thought for a sec bob was dead lol
I think of the same thing as I get older (63). Can't wait to rock with all my beloved musicians. RIP Tom & let's not forget John Lennon!
Can’t believe it’s been 2 years, rest easy Tom
It doesn't get better than this. Just great quality rock music. We all miss him.
I've watched this so many times.. one of the best haft time Superbowl shows.. Running Down A Dream..Tom Petty ROCKED THE HOUSE!!!!
Trump is a FIGHTER 17-0 16 Reps & 1 Crooked Hillary but fu about hillary
American Girl was a great start to the show
Trump is a FIGHTER 17-0 16 Reps & 1 Crooked Hillary I watch obsessively.
This was the best Super Bowl half time show...ever....xoxo
Tom Petty was a one of a kind guy. He will be so missed ❣
Kimmarie D. The best
Kimmarie D. So true 🌹🙏👍🏻
How wonderful life is while you're in the world....
Now THAT’S how you do a damn halftime show.
🏈🎸💕
I couldn’t agree more - well said!
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
He poured his heat and soul into everything ❤️❤️🥰
@@suzannebrown9359 great performer!!!!!!!!!!
All that TALENT! And he didn’t even kneel because he’s feeling oppressed! Our world is in shambles and mediocrity is everywhere. 😢🙏🏻💔
Wow! No lip-syncing and all of the musicians actually played their instruments. Thank you Mr. Petty for all of the wonderful music. You are missed.
And he never backed down. He kept going right til the end. There will never be another one like him. ❤️
I'm Bama fan but tomorrow FL Gators play LSU in Gainesville....Tom was a groundskeeper at UF. .. Tomorrow is for you Tom Petty.....!!!!
Back when the halftime shows were actually good.
Arsenalfan14 they are still good
TRISTEN 7 no where close
back when it waa about the music and not the spectacle
They all have been pretty good for the most part. The Black Eyed peas are the only one recent I can think of that sucked.
It's cuz you can't relate to today's pop culture. It's personal preference.
What an incredible performance. RIP to a legend.
CoDWiiPS3Gameplay ur profile pic is a legend. I still love that game.
Super incredible
It was awesome
Best halftime show ever in my opinion. I watched in my hospital bed after a major surgery 2 days before.
Forgot how damn good this performance was. He was an amazing artist and a super cool dude. RIP Tom....we will miss you!
What a legend! I grew up on his music and will always have it in my phone, my computer, my head and more than anything...in my Heart! RIP Tom...Love you man!
So thankful to have seen Tom Petty before we lost him. The whole freaking stadium was a lovefest sing along. Still gives me chills. I come here to get some of that love back. RIP Tom. You are greatly missed.
This timed out perfect. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers are my permanent half-time show. Now back to the game
Old pros at work. Love how relaxed and at home they all look. I still can't believe he's gone.
The world is full of gifted people.but some are behond gifted.the ones that are make a huge impact on the world.people like tom Petty and the heart breakers.legends
To this day, the best Super Bowl halftime show ever...........
Green bay vs New England half time show is amazing as well.
Prince
Springsteen
Apparently you don't know who Prince was (nor did you see Prince out-do Petty on stage at the Rock n Roll Music Hall of Fame) and I do LOVE me some good 'ol Tom Petty, but facts are facts.
Totally. The rest weren’t like Tom. He was so special. Always smiling. 🎸💖💔
The Petty and Prince half time shows are my two all time favorites. Prince singing "Purple Rain" actually in the rain, and the whole Petty set. Sigh. Still have trouble believing they are both gone.
Great to see Tom, somewhere in the middle of Don't Back Down, really start to enjoy the moment and not just be stunned by the awesomeness of playing to a Superbowl crowd. Tom was awesome. A giant. Will always be loved!!
They finally got the Halftime Performer right for once.
We lost a lot of musical legends over the past couple of years, none bigger than Petty. RIP Tom.
Jimmy Knocks , Leon Russell, JJ Cale, Petty, Joe Cocker, Alvin Lee and more❤️
They could play this one on the jumbotron every year instead of having someone new. This was EPIC. Loved and still love Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers!! RIP
What an amazing man... had a beautiful smile.. thank you for the music Tom. What a legend.. rest in peace
Man could this year's (2020) half time take hint. Lyrics you can understand. Appropriate for all ages. Tom rocked it.
This years Super Bowl...
Yeah about that 😬
The Weeknd is performing 🤨
The NFL is devolving.
Hoping for more WAP in 2022
@@skreuder_7685 never heard of him
Still can't believe Tom Petty is Gone Forever...RIP...
I’m 60, Tom Petty has been on the radio since I was a Freshman in High School…… the best! His music will live on. RIP Tom.
"Sure, why not"
Tom Petty, when asked to play the super bowl
best half time show ever, sure, why not :)
@@davidhina7957 He wasn't even a football fan. I can relate! Frankly, that sport's awful on several levels, but an opportunity for a show like this would be wonderful.
