  • This video tries out just some of the food that we would class as a TREAT FOR THE FISH, as its not the usual food pellet that is bought from the fish supplier.

I often give my koi sturgeon food as a treat they love it. When I feed my koi lettuce I put the whole lettuce into the pond and leave it and it’s normally eaten in about an hour.

    Thanjs. Interesting video.
Nice fish/pond. Looks like the pond could fo with at least part of it bring under cover from the sun, less chance of Algae.
Are ALL these foods a TREAT or can some of them be fed regularly?
I wasn't sure about my chicken so I looked on the Net & found your video.
I have Koi but also 'every day' fish & 3 Turtles.
Next year I will be digging a very big 'Koi only ' pond, I already have 3 large sheets of glass.
You could have cut up the Water Melon fir them & broke up the crackers. I now know what to do with my left over chicken/crackers. I will buy some Cherio's (Goodbye -E -O's), oranges/Melon/Chickpeas & Pearl Barley.
PLEASE NOTE: Please DONT feed ANY Water Fowl any bread AT all. Mynpartner & I are seeing more & more signs where they are stating it has NO NUTRITIONAL value to them, they will eat it & get full but because they are full they won't eat other foods that DO have health benefits to them like seeds, Peas, Sweet Corn.

A nice peaceful day no tourists going up the country lanes because the northeast has no fuel the only people getting fuel are emergency services and main bus companies supermarket delivery services and vital HGV a knock on effect could see shops closing and surgeries and other businesses as people cannot get into work and all the ponds that are heated by oil a knock on effect is all the storage in Refinery’s is full so they cannot refine any more till what they have has been shifted which means even when they have shifted all the stock it will take 5 weeks to fill up again so another shortage of fuel after this shortage.

Time to think of protecting the pond and fish, this winter could be one of the coldest the forecast is for a possible -11.5 C for January-February and possible into March but it will start slow in October with night temp of 6 C November 4.2 C December 2.4 C then it will drop off quickly down to around -11.5 C Jan-March.
The list below may look like something that would happen in the Arctic, but all of them happened in the UK
1963 one of the coldest winters on record blizzards, snow drifts, blocks of ice and temperatures lower than -20 C
1978-9 began with the country engulfed by blizzards and deep snow.
Much of the country started snowbound after blizzards of December 30-31st ice cold, freezing fog It was -24.6 C
2009, before a respite over the Christmas period the most severe snowy weather began on 5 January in North West England and west Scotland with temperatures hitting a low of −17.6 C

What’s going on have we not just had a Friday and it’s almost back again so quick.
Left 2 covers on the pond it’s so so cold out ponds at 4c. Don’t want to drop any heating in not at the present price of electricity.
My night to watch the wife with her heart condition so I will be able to check out the internet all night for bargains and get to bed around 8am for a few hours 5am now not long to go.
Been looking at air bricks well one fixing it into the top of the pond and using it as a skimmer let the water run out through the holes into a 3ft long 3ft high 2ft wide container with filter media and floss in the water running back out of a 38mm pipe into the pond the container being plastic would be easy to clean.
Two more energy firms went bust just after midnight those with smart meters could see them jump by £27 a month for a normal home from October.
Morrisons to be sold off at auction in £7billion takeover battle this weekend Chinese look keen.
Future imports of fish food water treatment and medications will cost more.
Pingxiang Bestn Chemical Packing Co fish medications most of the pond treatments in the Uk under whatever name are made by these.
Porpoise Co putting water treatments and filter products.
Shandong Litong Biotechnology Co fish foods.

My koi have a treat box haha, dried foods they love.
Watermelon they are not sure about. But oranges, apples, passion fruit... (i have a passion flower on the fence behind and the fruit grows over the pond and they are always pulling them off.
Never tried barley, might give it a whirl next treat day.
River shimp they love thou I a fresh supply they get them fortnightly as I have a tank full and they breed like mad (used for food for the amazon tank in the lounge) so they get a good helping of those.

If I find any small to medium slugs in my garden, they end up as a snack for the koi that gets there first, rarely sink 6 inches before being eaten. Got more activated carbon for the pond today the best for algae - nitrite - ammonia and nitrate 6 lb. lasts around 4 months also got more Formalin and Malachite Green I will put a half strength dose in before the winter and another in spring to keep the bugs down best price discount leisure products.
Banks may start to charge a fee in the near future for the use of cards and ATM machines possible also for SMS. for that reason I have joined Starling Bank everything is free any place in the world purchasing things online and knowing I’m safe doing so.
Looked at Gas and Electric companies also today I always have 300w of heating in the pond through the winter just enough to keep the ice off.
Lots offer reasonable rates but the daily charge is the one to watch some charge 60p a day I think eon next is right for me Electric 18.42 p/kWh Gas 3.23 p/kWh.

Possibly New Pond Syndrome. Your fish are now making ammonia which should turn to Nitrite, (both are very toxic to the fish) then Nitrate (not toxic to the fish in low levels). Water tests are key with ponds especially new ponds so you can monitor and act off the results. Here's a video on how to get through New Pond Syndrome and how the nitrification cycle works.. 😉👍 th-cam.com/video/nKSzEfnj-NU/w-d-xo.html
