That’s great that you really care and provide for the fish. I find that no matter what pets you keep it’s always better to provide a varied diet for optimum health. Great job!
Thanks for putting this vid up Adam, another really interesting subject. It's the first time I've seen your fish so close up - they look in fantastic shape and clearly love those treats. The comment about them only getting prawns at Christmas when you get prawns made me laugh :-) Regards, M
Great video! My koi really love chopped up mussels too. I also have a small pond full of duckweed that I scoop out once a day for the koi. Duckweed is loaded with A&B vitamins and is a great source of fiber. ❤ Great video!🥰
I give my fish much more pallets. Flakes for the goldfish.. I see some eat all the food of others in your pond..that big orange one haha . Mine like tialpa, worms and chicken weirdly enough. The worms i buy from the biofarm they are for composting your soil veggiegardens and i breed them..so they truly waiting for these worms..bloodworms makes them fiesty.. Good idea those oranges..i give marigold flowers since a week i had that from the Gregg the pondguy..aquaponics owner . that brightens their colour too and keeps parasites away.. haha for a moment I thought that window was the tank. I was like holy man that's a tiny tank for those big fish, then it panned back a bit and I seen it was quite and large pond lol.
I just wanted to say thank you for your videos I really love your fish. I have gold fish my self and I love my fish very much thay are my friends there names are cooke and Cooke's.thank you again for making these videos for us my friend.😎
glad ive came across this video i will be trying mine on muscles now. mine are not even close to the size of these but i hope they will eat the muscles want them to hand feed.
you truly have amazing set up bud. Your filtration system must be out this world for the amount of food your feeding and the size of your koi. Amazing pond love the window well done. Cheers for the tips i'm doing koi fry right now Kohaku and Sanke mix. I need to make a youtube channel for that.
Great Koi food ideas. In NYC we have a number of Chinatowns and one can get dried baby salt water shrimp at a low price, great for koi though I rinse them because they are often salted heavily.I'm surprised you didn't include earthworms.Koi and most other fish love them and there not hard to find or cultivate.I did not feed my koi the amount of fruit and vegetables that you do and I think this was a mistake.Have you tried Mullberries and other fruits as well?Wild Carp love a variety of fruits like oranges, cantelope, strawberries and raspberries to name a few.I have fed squid which is cheap and contains 50%protein when it fresh and moist to many fish but never koi.Do you have any experience with squid as food for koi?Any info would be appreciated.I enjoyed your presentation a lot.
Your koi are so beautiful. I have three in a pond and am new to this but they’re growing so so fast that I’m already going thinking of having a bigger pond. Also I have live wax worms for a couple of geckos I have and thought they might make a nice treat but you said not to give live food due to bugs etc - these wax worms are indigenous to the UK and bred in captive clean conditions so I’m wondering if I can give them as an occasional treat. Also I meant to add - thanks so much for sharing your expertise and the treats these gorgeous fish can have. One of mine takes food from anyone, a smaller one does now too so I’m just trying to tempt koi number three and actually have mussels in the freezer for a puffer fish. Looks like they’ll be getting some mussels tomorrow now. 😉
It was interesting - beautiful fish too. Our fish have had a rough time recently in pond due to infection. Things are getting better so will diversify their food a bit more and treat them to something tastier than pond sticks this season.
Really nice. I just came on here searching for Koi because i thought i caught two at a lake out fishing today but it seems what i caught were hybrids. Think they were hybrids of Crucian Carp/Koi and another had the body of a Crucian but the colour of a Common Carp and its fins were long and flappy like those you get with goldfish like Shubunkins. I fished a small lake one acre in size and its well stocked with a variety of species (no predators though) and i knew they had Crucians, Mirrors and Commons as well as Golden Orfe, Tench and silvers but it seems they must have Koi too and they're breeding with the Carp. Your tank is fantastic and lovely fish there. Its interesting especially from an anglers perspective how those fish react to the food you give them.
I watched this video a few months ago and tried oranges and cabbage, they didn't touch them. Then I tried a can of baby shrimp and they loved it. Now I feed them canned shrimp, clams, or oysters every day and they devour them.
You should throw the food in different areas so the smaller fish that hang around the outside get a chance to get some! If you always throw in the middle only the strongest fish are getting fed, I imagine.. :)
Do you do anything to the mussels or prawns before feeding them to the fish ? or buy frozen, defrost, and feed ? great video ! i want to give my babies a more varied diet as well
wow I just love the colors you have there that's AWESOME, what's the BIGGEST one you have in there & the type of koi & do you ever have to change the filter & water out?
You can cut your orange in half and thread a cable tie through the middle and hang it over the edge into the pond. This gets the fish up to the top and saves having to get the net in for the peel
Koi are bottom feeders, it's why they have the barbels, they're used to sucking from the floor. If it rots on the floor it's because they don't want to eat it.
Isn't your tank too crowded? Thanks for the info... will defintely try oranges watermelons and other fruit as I think the pellets I am going them aren't nutritious enough. Will also dig for worms!
I’m absolutely AMAZED at them picking the cabbage and oranges clean!
That’s great that you really care and provide for the fish. I find that no matter what pets you keep it’s always better to provide a varied diet for optimum health. Great job!
I love how you have a really large pond for your fish. they are beautiful. You are very kind to them :)
beautiful but there gonna get way bigger and then the pond will be tooo small.... problem with koi.... big buggers.
Margaret Jay agreed
The pond is big enough. He just have too much koi which is a mistake. 4 would’ve been more than enough.
@@rounman5583 actually for a pond of thi size, 4 is way too little. He has a good amt of fish for a pond of that size
@@fuzzbuzztk actually, they wont get much bigger than they already are. The bigger ones in here are about full grown for their species
One of the most informative video I’ve seen on foods for koi. Thanks so much.

and cheerios are totally good for fish. you can raise tadpoles on cheerios I used to do it when I was a kid. cheerios got natural ingredients.

Thank you for this video just bought 3 Kois and couldn't go back to the store today to ask about treats(they're really nervous and shy).
Beautiful Koi’s, thanks for sharing, glad to know what they like and don’t . Is pearl barley for small Koi’s as well , do they not have a husk?

Yh that’s quite a good food
Useless food rice
Fish, they are like naturals in the water

Brittney Mathews no your wrong koi fish are friendly they dont fight
Atong Balats . she never said they fight. the biggest and fastest get the food first.. it's just how they are.
I'm sure this is just for the video. Not like he's going to throw it in the back so we can't see it.
@Kochav Shavit what all he says is Daphne
I had 10 kois in a large pond as a kid, I always cried since i got scared everytime the koi bites my hand.
In the summer I normally feed mine boiled deshelled garden peas which they go absolutely crazy for.

Beautiful tanks!
Do you have a source for bulk dried shrimp, black flies, and meal worms?

The koi look soooo cute!!!!!!!!!
I don't like sinking food. Some will go to the bottom drain and rot. But good job man. Your kois are spoiled.
PicoLatrinidad stfu!!!
How about you 'stfu' he has said something fine so you fuck off back to cooking rice
Koi are bottom feeders, it's why they have the barbels, they're used to sucking from the floor. If it rots on the floor it's because they don't want to eat it.
He has a drum filter so any waste that goes in, never actually reaches the state of turning toxic, because it gets removed first.
Not even stones sit on the bottom with a 4 inch bottom drain and he has two, mine swallows large frogs
If you have a smaller pond/tank would the orange affect the PH?
Wow thank you for some ideas
oh my God it's so very wonderful😍😍
