Hey there, gearheads, and welcome back to another thrilling episode of AutoHound! Today, we're diving into the world of the 2019 Honda Civic Type-R, and let me tell you, folks, it's a ride that left us scratching our heads.
Now, on paper, this bad boy boasts a hefty 306 horsepower punch and can blitz from 0 to 60 in a respectable 5.2 seconds. But let me level with you, the excitement ends there.
I mean, sure, the numbers are impressive, but when it comes to the actual driving experience, this thing falls flat. It's like the Civic Type-R took a vow of silence when it hit the road. And don't even get me started on the comfort - or lack thereof. It's like they forgot to add the cushioning when they designed the seats!
Now, I don't want to sound like a Debbie Downer, but when you're in the market for a sports car, you expect a certain level of connection with the road. Unfortunately, the Type-R missed the memo. It's like driving with a layer of insulation between you and the asphalt.
And let's talk about the interior. While it may look sleek and modern from the outside, once you're inside, it's like stepping into a time machine back to 2005. I mean, come on, Honda, where's the tech?
But hey, let's not dwell on the negatives too much. After all, this is AutoHound, where we're all about finding the silver lining. And hey, if you're into feeling every single bump and jolt, then maybe the Type-R is the car for you.
But for us, we'll be sticking to something with a bit more personality. Thanks for tuning in, folks, and remember, Its About the Drive!

Hey Eric! Nice review. I love how you are pumping out tons of new content lately. Props man! I wanted to comment a few things on your take on the Type-R, and I will be completely honest with you. I have to disagree with what you said regarding the Type-R not being confidence inspiring or lively…
A few months back, I test drove one while I was doing some car shopping and testing the waters. I have to say, I thought this car was SO much fun! I personally enjoy small, nimble vehicles that are very rev happy, and act like they want to be driven hard. For instance, I love it when the car or bike seems to enjoy it more the harder you push it. To me, the Type-R was just that. It felt spry, eager, and ready for action! I love the fact that it feels very light for the amount of power that it has. That to me is exactly what I’m looking for in a fun daily driver. Hit the nail on the head as far as I was concerned. So much so, that I considered making them an offer! That is, until I found out that one had a rebuilt title. 😅😅😅
The one I drove though was also slightly modified. It had aftermarket wheels (Rays Gram Lights finished in bronze, which looked killer, despite the fact that one of them had a gigantic dent lol) It also potentially had an upgraded suspension, a CAI, a rowdy Borla cat-back exhaust, and an aftermarket BOV to top it off. All of those things added to the experience that tickle my fancy, and I bet that would’ve swayed your opinion a little bit as well.
Funny enough, do you know what the ONE thing is that would deter me from buying one of these from the previous model years??? The lack of a volume knob!!! I believe the one I test drove was a 2018 model. Whatever it was, it did NOT have a volume knob! Literally, that alone made me think to myself, “I don’t know if I could deal with this car on a daily basis”. I noticed yours has a volume knob though. Clearly, Honda listened to their customers, and fixed that horrendous mistake.
Also, regarding the build quality, you must have gotten your hands on a used and abused example. In my eyes, everyone knows that Honda’s build quality is usually top-notch, especially considering their affordability and their reliability. Maybe I am biased though!
Nonetheless, great job on the review either way! Just figured I would give you my perspective on it. Keep grinding dude! All of your recent effort does not go unnoticed. 😎🤙

Thanks for your insight Mark. I think the one I got was a piece of crap and probably tire up by the previous owner. Plus it was a cold day and the tires were ice cold. The ride quality was non existent and it was super bumpy. I’ll try to get my hands on a better version.
Also, thanks for noticing all the new content. I’ve been pushing pretty hard. This week will be another Porsche and hopefully the new GR Corolla.
Also. Your insight is alway welcome, I value being able to improve.
      Cheers
      Eric

@@autohound7099 You got it my friend! Yeah, I have a feeling the one you drove, and the one I drove were worlds apart. Along with the fact that I literally drove that one in 85 degrees of sunshine, and you drove yours in the freezing New England cold! 😅 I promise I’m not trying to rub it in that bad lol
Clearly, that shows that the same model car can feel sooooo different from another in a different environment, along with how well they were treated/modded.
And yes, I can tell you’ve been working very hard! That is awesome man. I hope you love the GR Corolla. I can’t wait to get my hands on one of those too!
I also want to clarify that I do not mean to say your opinions are wrong or false AT ALL. How the car felt to you is how the car felt to you. Nothing wrong with a respectful disagreement on a car, am I right? Just because I liked it, doesn’t mean that you have to. Plus, this is YOUR channel! And, no matter how good any particular thing is, you’ll never have 100% approval/agreement all of the time. Keep up the great work man! 😎🌴

@@DoubleClutchAutoReviews Thank you so much. I always say, it's ok to disagree. Yes, I am sore about the weather though, lol

@@autohound7099 Yes sir! You are totally right. And yeah, I bet you can’t wait until the summer. However, I will say you are fully taking advantage of the time that you have right now. We probably should switch places, because I haven’t filmed a full review since the Corvette in September. 👎😤
