@@BoikaForEver I think it’s totally doable. Sure, you have to take a break every 2,5 hours because the seat is not very comfortable - some guys recommend some sort of a pillow. I hadn’t one.

The Z900RS SE would like a word. BMW just recycles old parts with these bikes and overprice them to oblivion. Imagine paying 15-20 grand for a bike with no fuel gauge.
Glad to see that bmw still makes one of the best looking retro bikes. Nowadays at where i live, it's becoming quite rare to see retro bikes. But whenever there's a retro bike on the street, it immediately catches everyone's attention. I love retro motorcycles 😆.
Your lucky to find any bike that’s desirable where I live. If you do find a bike like this it’ll most likely be used and marked up over what a new one costs lol. I love 2022, anyone who thinks this is how it’s always been needs to get out of the basement and turn cnn/bbc off.
On my third R NineT a 2022 719 Aluminium (it has all the optional extras you could ask for) , it is beautiful , a worthly replacement for my second R NineT 719 Club Sport edition with the vintage paint scheme. my other R NineT bought in 2015 was the original standard (loved this). yes for me it is the ultimate retro motorcycle on the market
Hi Dan. Thanks for the review. I have a 9T in similar spec. On your negatives I also found the suspension very hard initially but adjusting the damping front and rear to the softest setting made everything noticeably softer so you can soften it off a fair bit. A lot of reviewers mention the lack of fuel gauge. It’s a bit annoying but maybe It was left off to go with the retro vibe. I use the trip meter as a fuel gauge by zeroing it after each fill which seems to work ok. You also get a low fuel warning light. PS I don’t think you got to your third negative !
I remember back in the day (mid 80s) not having a fuel gauge. I just used to fill up at the end of every ride. It wasn't a problem then and I doubt it'll be a problem now

Great review, love seeing people enjoying these. I’ve had mine a year now and still love it. The rear suspension does become too buzzy after a while so I swapped mine out for a Wilbers and it makes all the difference, much more planted and becomes a true weapon.
I bought this exact bike a month ago. Weather is keeping me off of it, but a few hundred miles so far Unit Garage seat, side luggage and top luggage rack. I don't think the seat is too much more comfortable, but looks good :) Rizoma Reverse Radial bar end mirrors really help with visibility
I had a 2015 model, absolutely loved it! At the time I wanted cruise control, so got a Yamaha MT09 SP - Then they launched the nine t with cruise control. I will return to owning one again, hands down best bike I've owned

The R1150 front calipers state Nissin on the backside and Brembo on the rear although both say BMW on the front side. the only one i don't like is the RT witch kinda looks like a spaceship, the fairing around the front fork is massively big.
I love the R9T. I test rode one whilst my bike was in for a service. A very enjoyable ride was had. I found it a tad lumpy at low revs like at junctions & entering roundabouts etc bike the bike overall was very addictive. On the list for when the time comes for the change.
You are the 4th blogger in a row attributing the torque reaction to piston movements. Pistons are actually very light as they are a reciprocating mass. The reaction comes from the crankshaft, which is the opposite ie heavy and rotating. When blipping the throttle, crankshaft inertia makes the bike kick in the opposite direction of rotation. As a result of your review, I’m seriously considering one of these 😁
Plus it's a boxer: each conrod has its own crankpin located 180° from the other, allowing the two pistons to reciprocate in opposite directions and cancel each other's acceleration.
One of the best Retros for sure and I rate it even with Triumph Thruxton R or now the RS. I had an overlap of the two for over two years. Similarities for sure mission wise but the approaches are different enough to justify owning both.
I have the Classic and Pure model. Love the bikes and the ability to customise and personalise. My only seroius gripe are spoked wheels are a drag when you get a puncture and zerp protection in the wet.

Late to the party but I finally got an R nineT... 2015 with only 7500 miles on the clock. Unmolested and almost like new. I'm also trying to understand the rear suspension and will try to adjust the shock to my liking.
Love the RnineT. Test rode one a few months ago and it was fab. If I had £15K lying around I’d get one. Sadly, budget constraints mean it’s not likely to happen. Agree about the silly omission of a fuel gauge.
Hi. Thanks for your review. I own Urban GS . In 10 months I’ve done over 7000 miles it is absolutely lovely bike great for weekend ride and every day use. Fuel gauge shouldn’t be a problem, as soon as you reach reserve level you have mileage countdown and flashing warning light . You can make around 20 miles on reserve. Thank you
Top 3 retro bike absolutely stunning for lovers of air/oil cooled boxer engine. Personally I love that engine and really dislike the soulless water cooled appliance. This is the bike to own from range because it is fitted with top quality suspension, unlike other models in the range which have front forks that sinnis wouldn't fit. Odd how the air/oil cooled r1200r with telelever suspension was probably better then all this new retro range but never sold. Thanks for review.
I bought a new one of these in 2018 , top of range standard model as it’s called , bought it in April & traded it in October, shortest lived new bike I’ve ever owned due to knocking sounds in the front suspension going over small bumps , Bmw replaced the front end at 3500 kms & it was perfect again until I got to 7,200 kms & it happened again so I had enough of it & got rid , I was raging at the time because I actually liked the bike, I had to video the problem on my phone to show Bmw & they agreed the first time , second time they weren’t so happy & just gave me a good trade in price on it for a new s1000r sport instead & they held it for a few months before Registering it the following January which was descent enough of them I thought at the time
Great enthusiastic review Dan. I love the look of these bikes and would love one as a second bike if I could afford one. Will have to get a test ride one day.
Sooo happy to see that you reviewed this one. It's my favourite looking bike on the market. However, the 6000 mile valve clearance intervals always puts me off? Especially knowing the absurd prices that BMW charges if you have to take it to the dealer.
Probably super easy to do yourself? I know Moto Guzzi has a 6k valve clearance check as well but you can do it yourself quickly with just basic tools and shims
I can tell you from ownership that the 6k checks are absolutely NOT needed. Just like the first 600 mile check, it's simply to make sure everything is fine, a "lemon check" as I call it. Valves don't ACTUALLY need adjustment until an avg of 24k miles.
Own a 2017 pure version. They only this it needs is a gear shift indicator and rear hugger which should be standard equipment in my opinion. Plus always be conscious it’s a 1200 twin with no slipper clutch.Hence engine break is pretty good/bad!
15:17 for a second i thought the texture of the world wasnt loading in and the mirror stands were phasing through his hand. But then it was probably the camera effect he is using. I almost had a heart attack lmfao
Great review & as a fellow R9T owner (2021 model) agree with all your comments. I did however only count 2 dislikes at the end but imagine the 3rd was probably the uncomfortable seat. Overall a brilliant machine & with a new seat on its way I’ll enjoy riding it even more.
I tried it two weeks ago but I didn’t like it. I wanted to buy it but for the price I was expecting more. Like as you mentioned not all information like fuel or gear are visibility for the rider in pure or scrambler version. Also on scrambler I didn’t find it having a relax and nice handling, maybe because I tried Triumph and it was much easier to ride and easy handling. Yes the engine is fun but very vibrating in high revs. For these reasons I decided to go with Triumph.
The bikes are stunning to look at. Seeing them parked is quite amazing. The finish on them is the best I've seen from any brand. But........do you think they might be a little overpriced for what they offer? I suppose if you want an air cooled bike, then you don't have that many, premium, options (apart from US cruiser behemoths). I think I'd choose to pick a second hand one up - if I felt the need. They're too costly for what they offer new. Triumph Speed Twin?
Hi Clive, in my case, I felt a bit like you and only allowed myself to buy a second hand Urban GS 1.5 yrs ago, a 2018 model E4 with 11k km. I have since put another 11k on it, and I could not be happier. The bike feels and looks as new if I keep it clean, and the engine is good for at least 100k if maintained regularly (so far all done myself). Indeed a bit too expensive new, but in case properly used, has great value and I would expect that it keeps that for many years to come. (Personal view: people who complain about fuel gauge or missing quick shifter may look at the wrong segment, but just my 2c)
Hey Dan! How does this comapare size and wieght-wise versus the SV650? I'm guessing a bit more bulky at least. I have a 2019 SV, and the R NineT is one of the top 3 bikes I could see myself upgrading to in the future :)
I've got an sv and my dad has an r nine t, even though on paper the r nine t is a bit of a lump, it really doesn't feel it when moving it around or riding because of the low c of g. I'm sure you'd notice it if you dropped it though!
Hi Dan, I love these. I road tested one earlier this year and was so tempted to go for it. They look stunning and the one I was going to buy had loads of Option 719 bits on. The attention to detail is superb. The only thing I didn’t like was that torque reaction when revving it, and also a weird ‘shimmy’ on down shifts. Did you notice that? I agree that the lack of a fuel gauge is a bit annoying but it wouldn’t stop me buying one. Unfortunately I don’t have a BMW dealer within an hour’s drive from where I live and that doesn’t fit with my busy working life, but I think I could go for one at some point. Keep up the great work 👍

@@Englishbikerdan can't wait till I get my hands on one. But until then, I think I'm speaking for the entirety of EBD subscribers, we need a Diavel Review! 😍
Hey David, tough call. I think for me I'd go for the R Nine T. Just as I think it handles a bit better and I really enjoy the nature of the boxer engine. Both awesome bikes though! Sound is subjective really as the engine types make them sound quite different. However, stock pipes I'd say the Speed Twin sounds better. Deeper and meaner. Cheers!
Hi, can anyone tell me all the changes that BMW has made to the NineT in 2023 compared to the 2016? Or can you show me where to collect the informations? Thanks!
Almost bought one these this summer, great bike with really nice design. The problem with them are as you said the suspension and the seat. Even in the softest setting the suspension is to hard and rattely and the seat was killing me after 90 minutes of riding. You really start to feel the frame of the seat on the inside of your thighs. I tried the Scrambler version also. It has i bit better suspension, due to longer travel, but the same crappy seat. If I was to get one of these I would go for the Scrambler or the Urban GS, due to the better suspension and hope that Wonderlich makes a good replacement seat.
Great review Dan 👍 I got to borrow one for a few hours and had very similar opinions as you did. Pros: looks, engine, brakes (best I've ever experienced) comfortable riding position, handling is superb Cons: hard seat (after 30mins I was looking to get off) mirrors are terrible (couldn't see a thing) no fuel gauge, price I was left very impressed yet also a little disappointed. It was almost perfect.
It's certainly better for short term maintenance, as it's a sealed unit and doesn't need adjustment like a chain would. Long term I'm unsure as I'm sure shaft drives would need maintenance of some kind as the miles rack up. Then there's also the question of efficiency and transmission losses, but I'd have to look into that more.
Shaft drive bikes would have about 25 percent more power if they had a chain instead, but no chain maintenance makes it worth the trade off for a lot of people. Instead of cleaning and lubing a chain every 500 miles, you only have to replace the final drive oil once every other year.
Nice review, I do like the look of this bike. Must say after paying for TH-cam premium to get rid of ads, the in video promotions grate a little. Sorry. Still enjoy the vids.
I'm thinking about getting an R9T. I've just changed jobs, winter's coming, probably April next year. But I've changed jobs with a near £30,000 a year pay increase so I'll easily be able to afford a top spec model.
It's not a bad looking bike ( at all ).but it's far from a retro bike IMHO... modern retro maybe, just because a bike has a round single headlight doesn't make it retro 😅
Retro doesn't have to mean old, it also refers to modern design philosophy. It's made to look like an older bike, so that's retro in my book. That and it's in the BMW Heritage lineup.
You only said 2 things you don’t like 😂 and the fuel gauge i don’t see the need? Reset trip to zero after filling up and you get the reserve light wich gives you 50kms range. Some harleys, hondas, ducatis… don’t have a fuel gauge
I think like a German engineer. I don't get the problem of no fuel gauge - Trip odometer and reserve is enough. Lack of gear indicator is a nonsensical complaint - Once you've learned the shift points it's useless. Engine temp and oil pressure - that's all you need. Your eyes belong on the road, not your gauges. Ride the RPM that feels right and the speed that feels safe. Everything else is a distraction.
Of course you don't need any of it, I learnt on bikes that had nothing and have owned bikes without electric starters. However, we've moved on and so have bikes. At this price you do start to expect these things from modern motorcycles.
Why didn't you stop and readjust the suspension? What do companies give you bikes for? Isn't it a part of the test-to readjust the suspension and tell your viewers how is it like? Saying 1000 times that the suspension is adjustable doesn't give me anything as your viewer. The only thing I understand from this is that I have do go to the dealer and test the bike by myself. But it calls into question the whole video, more than that: the whole your work as a reviewer. If I have to go and test a product by myself-you become pointless to me.
I review bikes, as is and give my opinion. Nothing more, nothing less. Don't rely on others to tell you how a bike feels. That's hard to do, not only that, but we all like different things. I am pointless to many, one more won't hurt! :D

That R9 boxer has more in common with the aircraft or vespa in the background opening of this video than anyone would like to admit. 😂
Imagine a 1200cc Vespa. I'd give that a go! 😂
Hello mate, may I ask what chin mount are you using?
Thanks
I think the only negative for me is the tubed tyres, otherwise, I'd have it in a heartbeat.
Late to the party but congrats on the new sponsor!
Great review 👍what a great looking bike , I love the engine breaking with the boxer , so easy to ride but it could do with a quick shifter .
Thanks Paul. 👍
Dig it Mate!!!! Ride On
Hi Dan, I love these. Keep up the great work 👍
Definitely my favourite retro!
You kids nowadays 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dream bike
These Nines really look good, great review. I just can't get passed the noise of the boxer engine. I think I might be in the minority with that!
Haha yeah, they are an acquired taste for sure! Thanks for watching!
Love the sound, yes I do.
Hi Dan. About to pull the trigger on one of these, in the same colour in fact. Any final thoughts on the bike that are negative?
Buying the exact same livery tomorrow. Can’t sleep. Tried it in Montpellier when I was broke. But time takes time…
@@fabiancharbonnier
It’s very quiet stock, I put a slash pipe Pro-Race can on. It has a real bark when I fire it up but not too loud.
Good luck and enjoy the boxer rocking 👍
Great looking bikes
Definitely has a spot on my top 5 garage next to the Diavel 🤤. That timeless design calls to me like a warm crispy apple crumble with custard. Also nice tracker by SizzApp. It would be good to see at some point a video dedicated to securing your bike or what kind of equipment you're currently using to keep it safe. 👍❤👌
Mmmm Diavel! 😍
@@Englishbikerdan can't wait till I get my hands on one. But until then, I think I'm speaking for the entirety of EBD subscribers, we need a Diavel Review! 😍
Good bike, but I prefer thge Urban G/S. Enjoyable.
Thanks Dan, so this or the Speed Twin ? both look good to me and thats important, but which one sounds better with stock exhaust ?
Hey David, tough call. I think for me I'd go for the R Nine T. Just as I think it handles a bit better and I really enjoy the nature of the boxer engine. Both awesome bikes though! Sound is subjective really as the engine types make them sound quite different. However, stock pipes I'd say the Speed Twin sounds better. Deeper and meaner. Cheers!
@@Englishbikerdan Where in the handling do you think the Speed Twin falls short? Anything that can be done to improve the handling and close the gap?
Comfortable for long rides? Does the engine overheat during hot rides?
Great review Dan 👍
I got to borrow one for a few hours and had very similar opinions as you did.
Pros: looks, engine, brakes (best I've ever experienced) comfortable riding position, handling is superb
Cons: hard seat (after 30mins I was looking to get off) mirrors are terrible (couldn't see a thing) no fuel gauge, price
I was left very impressed yet also a little disappointed. It was almost perfect.
Thanks for watching Colin. 👍
So is a shaft drive supposed to last much longer? I guess it’s protected from road grime too… I guess it never needs to be changed.
Yes! Have been waiting for this!
Ah the BMW boxer .. a masterclass in making a bike engine way wider than necessary 🤣
Haha, I dunno. These things handle like you wouldn't believe! Genius design. Plus they keep your feet warm in winter. 😂
It's a DOHC engine, 2 x 2 camshafts, unlike the R18.
Based on the R75 made in the 40ties of last century and even earlier.
1:30 for advertising is wild!!
It was 60 secs. Pretty standard for an ad slot on YT.
Whassup w/ your rear view mirrors?
Sold a diavel to buy one. I was like far out, this things a gutless wonder. At least the cops dont eyeball me now.
How do you rate the BMW R Nine T compared to the Harley Low Rider S, which you seemed to really enjoy when you rode it?
Very different bikes so hard to compare them side by side.
No fuel gauge “you havin a laugh”
Nice review, I do like the look of this bike. Must say after paying for TH-cam premium to get rid of ads, the in video promotions grate a little. Sorry. Still enjoy the vids.
On the plus side, you can just skip my sponsored section. :) Thanks for watching!
How is maintenance cost?
It’s a nice looking bike. Fuel gauge? You’ve gone soft, don’t need one 😉
Just because your old heap doesn't have one! :D
@@Englishbikerdan old? You mean classic
This bike is such a piece of art. But it's soo expensive.
Dan the engine is broken the cylinder's are sticking out of the side of the block. 😕😕😕
Not again!
Love it😎🏍️
This or the Kawasaki Z900RS SE model Dan?
I've not ridden any Kawasaki's lately, so I can't comment.
Hey Dan, which bike do you think is better between R nineT and triumph speed twin? Also, if anyone else has any opinion, please comment thank you
Both great, just different.
Tks. much.
Not a BMW fan but enjoyed the review. A bit hard, firm, clunky and then there's the build quality issue.
30 thousand miles on mine. No issues😉
This or xsr 900?
I'm thinking about getting an R9T. I've just changed jobs, winter's coming, probably April next year. But I've changed jobs with a near £30,000 a year pay increase so I'll easily be able to afford a top spec model.
would go well with a 'brick phone'!
Don't forget your padded shoulders! 😁
And flared jeans
The fuel gauge is a weird omission, considering everything else the dash shows you.
@@Englishbikerdan this is true, i guess it feels more retro.
Have u seen it in person? It looks weird
No I've not seen one in person. 😊
@@Englishbikerdan not u. Talking to others, bmw styling is not great on a lot thier bikes imo
@@youngboomerragevictim8857 I know, I'm just being silly. :)
sweet.
I wanted one , they look really nice but I can’t get over the ergonomics , your legs are almost sports bike with an upright torso , very uncomfortable
@@Englishbikerdan 💯
Sometimes you sounded like "Mat Watson here from carwow"
But we have totally different accents! 😅
@@Englishbikerdan ❤️
A retro cafe bikini fairing would look cool on that bike.
How is it "retro"? It looks like a spaceship.
It's a retro styled bike, if you have eyes at least. 😁
Of course I have eyes, obviously. I can see how ugly it is.
Stick to my Suzuki gsxr1000r for now.
I'll be 70 in 10 years time.Maybe then.
@@Englishbikerdan
Yes, I agree with you.
I raised the bar too high. Your vids are so pleasant to watch that I automatically treated you as a professional journalist. However, you're just a guy with a camera and a mic, your videos are not professional analytics, but sort of a careless entertainment stuff to slightly spice up a 5 o'clock cup of tea.-As is, as you put it.
Please, excuse me, didn't want to hurt or/and offend you!
Wish you all the best, mate!
