    For someone who is going to buy an older used BMW, I would recommend learning how to work on the car yourself. For example, it's pretty easy to change an oil pan gasket yourself instead of paying $300 for a shop to do it. Pretty much anyone can do that job theirself.

      Do you know where one would be able to learn about diy maintenance? I just bought a 2011 328i today and would love to learn more about how to maintain the car as best as possible as cheaply as possible.

      @@erichernandez2822 I taught myself how to work on my cars just by looking things up on the internet and TH-cam, and using an auto repair manual. For example, there are tons of videos people on TH-cam have made 'on how to do different types of repairs and maintenance on BMWs. I would also recommend getting a repair manual like Chilton's, which guides you on how to do different types of maintenance and repairs for your specific model of BMW. Then if you encounter any problems, just look it up on TH-cam, as there is probably someone who has encountered the same problem and has made a video on it.

    i bought a 2009 328i just in time for my birthday last march, was super exiting considering its my first car purchased with my own money so it was a big accomplish for me. I fell in love with the car immediately when i saw it and test drove it. It was in really good condition, one owner(old man) and for $9500 at 134k i couldnt pass on the deal. Sadly people make fun of me because its a 4 door sedan and automatic, saying i shouldve got a 335i because its faster.. to me its not about being the fastest on the road.. i get that some people want more power and thats fine, but thats not for me. Thats what i dont understand, is why do people shame others or try to tell others what they should have/drive or shouldnt.. just appreciate the cars.. plus this car has enough power for me and my daily driving.. I love this 3 series model by bmw because N/A engine, sounds amazing straight piped with exhaust and has timeless look.. everywhere i go i get compliments :)

    I disagree in your maintenance bill quotes. Buying a 2011 328xi this week. When I test drove it I saw lots of shiny yellow gold clean oil on the plastic OEM splash guards. I said my offer now is adjusted down $1500 to afford a fix. They said no. I walked. 3 days later I got a call saying they took it to their local European motor garage. The mechanic confirmed it needs a oil pan gasket and a new transfer case pinion seal. Job was $1400 and dealer said they should’ve taken my -$1500 offer. Well now it’s getting fixed and I don’t have to take it to a shop. Now have to watch the vanos, thermostat, water pump, eccentric sensor seal, and the valve cover gasket. Only half of those I can do myself. More money to a German shop down the road. Can’t wait to get it. Hope it doesn’t bite me in the ass like a Rattlesnake. Car has halogen lights though but it’s AWD and manual trans and those are rare. Need to find other lights.

      91k now. 2011 model year. Replaced the plastic hose barb fitting for coolant coming off the oil filter housing, also known as the mickey mouse fitting, with a Billet aluminum one. Great replacement. Original one was close to crumbling. Need to do oil filter housing gasket replacement. Need to Install Megan Racing engine strut bar. Have thermostat and water pump on hand on garage shelf waiting for the upcoming failure. I do have small oil seepage from VANOs and somewhere below intake manifold could be the oil filter housing gasket but with a flashlight it doesnt seem to. Need to replace power steering fluid reservoir as I'm sure it's the original and no matter how much fluid I extract out and replace it becomes Olive Drab quickly. Have read the reservoir internal filter needs replacement and can create flow restriction making the power steering pump become more noisy. I suspect a new clutch sometime relatively soon. This will be my last bmw I will say. For the money it's a good car because an A4 standard transmission was about $5k or more than this 328xi I have. But I don't have interest in ownership of a BMW turbo. That reason together with the clunky standard transmission design, that's why it's my last bmw. My 1999 A4 standard transmission was much more enjoyable to shift. But this 328xi is more enjoyable to drive as the steering and handling and power exceeds my displeasure with the shifter. I bought a spare tire, a used X3 piston jack, have a socket and long breaker bar all sitting in my trunk. It's an airport car for me so just me and a suitcase in it typically. So don't necessarily impact me having my trunk taken by an emergency donut tire. But doing it all to get rid of run flat tires and get better performing tires.

    Check the belt if its off the pully even just a bit it means there was an oil leak or there is an oil leak and it got onto the belt. Replace the belt and belt pully and tensioner right away (it can snap and get sucked into the engine causing you to need to get a new engine and its a $200 fix mechanic labor included) and check if the leaks are still going on or if they were fixed. If the starter hasn't been replaced in 100,000 miles its going to end up going. Get an oil change every 3k miles with correct oil. Change the intake boot from stock to a turner motorsport one itll help at around 130k miles when you get a vaccum leak and its only $60 and easy to DIY. Make sure the tires are in good condition and if it has xdrive youll need to get all 4 done at the same time.

    This isnt telling me what kind of issues to look out for or anything of the sort, this is more like a sales pitch for silly shit I dont need nor want, how lazy do you have to be to need all that crap? LED headlights are way better imo and they dont have to turn when I do cause they are bright af to begin with. I dont need an onboard computer to check my oil for me, I rather do it myself. • @TOMAHAWK813
      @TOMAHAWK813  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Led headlights were not in 2009 cars, plus led headlights are actually terrible and omit less lumens than xenon headlights which in the end makes the xenon head lights better. I’m just explaining the options and what to get. You don’t want to be the guy with a base bmw that got the car just because of the badge. You want tall the options that came with it. Especially if you’re getting it used. As far as the I drive in which you called an on board computer, the car looks dull without it and makes life 10x easier. Also looks a lot better. This car also doesn’t have a dipstick so you can’t “check the oil yourself” as you explained you wanted to do. None of it is useless nor does it have issues and I think you’re just being a little dramatic lol.
