You had everything ready and organized. Trooper asked for documents and handed stuff over without having to hunt around the cab. Shows you're a professional driver who was responsible and respectful. In and out in less time to get a coffee a pee lol. Stay safe J
32 years in transportation and this is one of the most professional drivers in the way he handled that Inspection. Sir, I commend you. UPS is hiring if you need a job.
My god the crap you have to go through now. I drove about 29 years ago out of Texarkana TX. when we had the paper logs and I could dot my log when I had to, but today that is over with. My hats off to you and all the other fellows O.T.R.

Yeah, that was a level III driver only. I just had my first one while driving through Washington State. Good officer. Very thorough, but friendly. He laughed at my joke.
LOl last company i drove for I love Blitz Week knowing i will pass i wasn't worried. Every inspection i pass matter which level 1-4 Full, Papers, walk around bring it on.. 100 Cash bonus every time. Always a good week. i can range between 100 to 900 extra for that week. * yes i got Inspected 9 flipping times one time two lvl 1's rest just lvl 3's
@Jere Here Most companies will get a heads up from the Federal Govt its not like its a surprise. But some won't tell their drivers Google DOT Blitzweek and the year it will come up or look on the FMCSA's homepage.
elitedata obviously you don’t know. Otherwise you’ll have known that sounds nothing like gun shots. There’s no concussions following the shots. They aren’t echoing the slightest bit. Only thing you know about guns are what u see in movies. & for u to assume that someone has to be in Chicago because gunshots erupt shows that you’re ignorant and disconnected from the real world.
Unless its different in states, a level 1 is a full inspection. A level 3 is what you went through, paperwork only or (driver.) I just did a level 1 on the side of the road outside of Kanab, UT. Level 1 is everything... you, the truck, paperwork, the kitchen sink. Its when the officer puts on coveralls and grabs his tools. It sounded like gun shots going off randomly in your video. I am a new driver trying to pick up on all the tips and tricks to help makes things easier. The officer told me that if you get pulled over, you shouldnt touch your logs at all. The officer will tell you what and how to change your logs at the end, times, where you are, etc. I appreciate your videos cause they help me. Thanks!
Any inspection is on duty, ur working when providing info and showing eld logs , u have not left the truck , but are still performing job related duties
Any time .not driving .off duty ...I'm forced to stop I'm off duty this isn't job related it's cops trying to fk u over aka doing there job...fuk that off duty because they are wasting my work time too...
DOT didn't catch that you put yourself as OD when pulled into the scale but you caught it afterwards and corrected it. You must always provide your logs even if they are ELDs. I believe you need to show no more than 7 days but it may be up to 14 days. Once you know how many days for sure delete it off your ELD's so DOT can't find earlier violations. Safe haven means you can drive to the nearest safe haven, to you position, but it doesn't mean you can stop at the first safe haven along your intended route. If there's a safe haven closer by, in your rear mirror, you must turn around. Hope this helps.
In sweden we have driving time for 4,5 hours, and after that you most take 45 minutes brake. And after that drive 4,5 hours again. But sometimes you CAN’T just stop and you drive over. Then you most print out an paper from the trucks computer and write on it WHY you drove over.
Such a good driver!!! Regulations are for everybody protection!! I love my gov they do the best for us , Thank you YOU TRUCK DRIVERS but the nicest ones.
I drove back in the late SEVENTIES and early eighties when truckin was fun. Lots of tattle tales out there these days. They know your precise location.

All truck now MUST have manual for electronic log book which is installed in your truck. To be able show how to operate your electronic book ( many different units cops cannot memorize all how to operate them) Soon will be and that is for sure WI-FI electronic logs when DOT will pull your logs while driving.Same in Swiss they have that already for 10 years.Driving next to you and see all on your log book. Cop say 7 and half hour lol. Law say in 8 hours to take brake. Save haven is the all depend on if all go smooth no problem you can take but having accident in that time will be against us drivers. lol Love all your videos JBG.
I make it a habit of taking my 30 minute after working 6 hours then you won't have to worry about a violation and then I look for a place at least an hour before my 14 is up you have to learn how to manage your time
Interesting how I works out for drivers, you must stay on duty for fueling, DOT inspections, pre-trip, yet government does not say that you must get payed for that time. Why not?
Actually Kansas is top notch very professional an respectful, all these super truckers that talk the talk but walk the walk or drive in a sense .take pride in your job drive with courtesy an respect,an help the new happy trails 10 4
Nice seeing your videos again, just put the bell for all videos upload. Great video, you know when i was a driver i've never had a inspection stop lol, maybe cause i used to drive after midnight, always used to see the inspection station close hahaha.
Thank you for taking the time to video this. My first time seeing an inspection. So basically he was making sure you paid taxes and are being a safe driver. 🤷🏽♂️
Thanks for asking those questions. It was nice to hear some additional information /clarification from a DOT perspective. It's good when they are decent with you. Stay safe out there.
It's just so easy to comply with what they want. I don't know why people make a big deal about it. Yes it's a waste of time. Specially the portabales up there in Cairo, IL. But just be legal, comply with what they want, and move on about your day.
Hey John, I'm surprised he didn't ask about the camera. If you are recording. He might have asked you to turn it off and delete any of the inspection. Safe travels John ! Peace ✌🏻️
I remember that night you went over your hours and had to go find a safe haven for the night that was a good idea for you to clarify that question with him .
level 3 inspection, and of course they can look at you elogs as the matter of fact you're supposed to keep the instructions on how to use it handy in case DOT need it its on one of the sections of 395 chapter safety book i don't know where you came up with that one
yeah, that 72 hour of nationwide bs is a good time to be off duty. this cop was just taking a break with this guy. they will find something wrong if they want, its totally a $$$$$ thing.
Lil Blockchain Very, very few might make that. I have family that work in this area of law enforcement in Colorado and Nebraska and I can tell you for a fact, they make around $60-$70K and have been doing it for more than 15 years each.
As a former truck driver a wasn't never stop by D.O.T. or had to go in any inspection stop area most of the time they where close. Maybe because I had drive after midnight all the time. First time I see an inspection by D.O.T. very professional by the D.O.T. officer very professional on his behalf.
Is that the inspection station in olathe, ks? on I-35. I been stopped and inspected there over 20 times in a 10 year period. They are overzealous on their inspections. Good thing is in 18 years of driving I never once got a dot violation!!!
Sub-26001 can still be regulated as a commerical vehicle if it's a vehicle that's primarily used for commerce, which is why hotshots are restricted by any regulations at all. Just because you don't need a CDL doesn't mean it isn't commercial driving. The pickup truck with the fat pipes on the flatbed is a great example. At work every day I see cherry pickers with DOT numbers on them. They're F550s so maybe their GVWR is that high but I doubt it. If it's commerce the govt has very little trouble regulating it.
As for the personal RV, no idea. Could be Kansas law, could be the driver just wanting a ticket, who knows. Could just be driver ignorance thinking he needs a ticket when he doesn't.
You are required to show that E logs but some Dot officers want to see the instructions on how to operate your elog if you do not have the instructions they could write you a violation for not having instructions on how to use the device.
TheBluedragon3310 our company has never shown a driver how to pull up logs for DOT. They expect us to call the safety director for instructions if we are checked.
You need to have instructions for the electronic log in your possession. You MUST show any DOT qualified official your log book, wether it be "e" or paper apron request. No ifs ands or buts.
billyboi57 I use an iPad Pro and have it in the middle of the center dash and when I hand it to them they rather me just email em my logs 😂😂 there has been maybe 3 officers who held it and went through it but the rest want the email sent to them.
I served in the Marine Corps & did a tour on the drill field. One of my recruits is a Kansas D.O.T. trooper. We met last summer near Cheney. The shoe was on the other foot, but he didn't inspect me. We had some coffee & shared sea stories.
I got pulled in during sting week once. ONCE. They spent almost an hour under my truck, and came up looking disappointed that there were no violations to be found. I park for those 3 days every time it happens, now, and find myself a cozy hotel with a real nice hot tub. The difference in my stress level is palpable. If it were just level 2's like what you seem to have gotten, wouldn't be a big deal. But when it's a level 1 and they get the gloves on and get under the truck... yeah, no. Even *_I_* start to feel like some kind of criminal when they go out of their way like that
Number off your door? More like check your fire extinguisher and see if the inside of your truck is messy to see if he thinks he should inspect your tractor/trailer...
Right, off-duty to on-duty. JBG needs to learn what the duty statuses mean. Inspection, regardless of what kind is always logged as on-duty. You just got away with a log violation.
I was arrested at the Boone County, Ky I-71 Weigh station for not assisting D.O.T in a safety inspection. Charged with failure to display CDL's on demand, and refusal to submit too safety inspection... Here is what happen. (CASE DISMISSED and EXPUNGED!!) When I had entered the scale, I was directed to the back too the main scale. Once weighed, I noticed I was 2600 lbs over on my trailer axles. I was directed to the parking area and go inside the building. There were signs in the parking area that stated, " bring all paperwork inside". I decided to stand up for my legal constitutional rights and walked in without them. When I had entered into the building, an officer of the KSP named Mr. Piper had asked me, " where is your paperwork?", I had replied, " what is your probable cause?". Mr. Piper commented, " I dont have probable cause and i dont need any." I had informed Mr. Piper that under the 4th amendment of the constitution The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. At this point Mr. Piper had asked, " do you have your license?". I informed Mr. Piper that my license may have been in the truck where i usually keep them and if i did have them on me, it is considered a personal effect. Another officer of the KSP named Mr. Payton confronted me and asked, " what is your name?" I had told the officer my name, in which I did not have to due to the laws stating that No I.D. has to be given unless I was arrested for a crime. (Some states are stop and I.D. states, these types of states are only required to show I.D. if you are suspected of committing a crime, have committed a crime, or a crime is in progress" After I had given Mr. Payton my name, he had asked me, " What is your Social security number?" No government official has a right to ask that of any one. Your SSN is not required to be given at any time or situation and should not be asked. My reply was " I plead the 5th". Mr. Payton continued and said, " we can not run your information in our data base just by your name, we need another form of I.D or information to be able too." I had informed Mr. Payton, " Since there is no probable cause, I do not consent to you running a check on me thru your data base as it is a form of "searching" and is against my 4th amendment rights therefore i plead the 5th. Once Mr. Payton knew that he could not proceed to get what he wanted, he had informed me that he was going to inspect my truck. I had told Mr. Payton, " That is fine, the keys are in the truck, you may go and inspect it." Mr. Payton had replied, " You have to be a part of the inspection." I commented back, Show a law or regulation stating that a driver has to assist D.O.T in a safety inspection. Then another officer which was the supervisor by the name of Mrs. Horts got hostile and said, " What, you a lawyer now, you think you can do my job better than me!?" I decided to not say anything to her. Then Mr. Payton commented, " I am going to give you another chance to comply, We are not qualified to operate your Vehicle." I replied back to Mr. Payton, It is not my problem that you are not allowed to operate the Truck, but how ever, I will give you another chance to look up the regulation located in CFR 49 396 and show me where it states a driver has to assist D.O.T in an inspection? When you can show me that this regulations states that I have to assist you, then I will happily comply with you, but until then, I will respectfully decline your request and I plead the 5th in doing so. Mr. Payton refused to obey the command of a U.S. citizen and failed to uphold his duties as a "public servant" in serving me in my request and had also failed to uphold the rights of the people, the laws and the regulations as he had sworn to uphold and had arrested me illegally. It was all thrown out of court and expunged. Government officials fail to realize that the constitutional rights of the citizens of America does, and can, and always will trump any law or regulation or ordinance that is put in place. Congress makes these laws and only congress can pass these laws. In the beginning of the constitution it clearly states, " Congress shall make no laws against, and it also states in the constitution that congress can not infringe on the rights of the people. The constitution can not be removed. It is set in stone.
and if driver's did as they pleased crashed and killed a whole family then we be all thinking what happened to that safety net look I know we don't want these guys doing this because it holds us from keeping our route but once again this is just a safety net that serves us drivers and the public too
Safe Haven is a term associated with Hazmat parking only. I think you are looking for this regulation. Adverse Driving Conditions 395.1(b)(1) found in the hours of service section.
Quick question. I know they look at the total amount of hours you've driven. But do they look at how far you have driven within the allotted time as well? Lets say you drove for 11 hours at 65 mph. At the end of 11 hours, total miles driven should be around 715 miles for going 65 mph. What if you are way past the 715 miles? You are within the allotted time but are past the distance for the given speed you were traveling at. Technically, they could give you a speeding ticket.
I still think it's neat seeing an old cab over earning it's keep. I miss seeing them on the highway. He is right ya know, people don't always tell us the truth.
What determines them to pull you over? They can do that just for the hell of it? Say you go to the next state can they “inspect “ you or are you good until you get a new load . I didn’t realize they was so much involved to moving goods.
You had everything ready and organized. Trooper asked for documents and handed stuff over without having to hunt around the cab. Shows you're a professional driver who was responsible and respectful. In and out in less time to get a coffee a pee lol. Stay safe J

This DOT officer was cool. I wish most of them would be this cool and laid back, be calm to earth and exploratory. Thumbs up to this “old timer”...

Your conversation with DOT officer gives us a knowledge
This is the most exciting part ✌ thank you!
Shows how much they don't know, I've had dirty elogs using my off duty driving hour. Two bears checked them out and said my logs cleared.
I love those level 1 DOT inspection, they are usually fast and easy. Stay safe out there and God Bless You! Nice vlog!
That was a level 3 inspection not level one
Yeah, that was a level III driver only. I just had my first one while driving through Washington State. Good officer. Very thorough, but friendly. He laughed at my joke.

You're right it sounds like Red Khmer in Cambodia when they executed the civilians during the civil war
Nice video. 1 year driver here and really appreciated your narration!
A lot of cops look @ the ELD's and have no Idea what they are looking @
these videos of real life on the road are very valuable. Routine for you, but new for us. Thanks
Thanks for filming & sharing the experience! Glad all went well! Be safe!

There is a difference between "rules" and "Common Law", many times law enforcement get the two mixed up. Some are discretionary and flexible.

I'm no ones slave. Inspect away. I'm not helping. PERIOD.
Best answer. Unless officer asks for information or assistance don't interrupt
You should go on line 4, any work that your not driving, even DOT would be on 4 for inspection
that looks like the one in olathe,ks going southbound.
Is that the inspection station in olathe, ks? on I-35.
I been stopped and inspected there over 20 times in a 10 year period. They are overzealous on their inspections. Good thing is in 18 years of driving I never once got a dot violation!!!
ELI5: but why does a sub-26001 box truck even go into a weigh station? And I saw a personal RV pull in... WHY?
@@cm01 maybe the rv owner pulled in to ask them something or to get out and stretch his legs
The truck pulling the RV LOOKED like it was a commercial transporter
What kind of questions u asking. Of course they can review your logs
Bluedragon that is sooo true
It's called an e-log cab card.
You need to have instructions for the electronic log in your possession. You MUST show any DOT qualified official your log book, wether it be "e" or paper apron request. No ifs ands or buts.
Why i hear gun shots JBG
Thanks for sharing and great questions at the end 👍
I am surprised the officer did not ask you to hand the e-log directly to him.
billyboi57 I use an iPad Pro and have it in the middle of the center dash and when I hand it to them they rather me just email em my logs 😂😂 there has been maybe 3 officers who held it and went through it but the rest want the email sent to them.
You are allowed to go over 2 hours if you get cot in traffic or weather per CDL regs
*Are they sniping the ones who don't enter the Weight Station*
ARE THEY SNIPING THE ONES WHO DON'T ENTER WEIGHT STATION
Thanks for the video. Well done. You're a professional alright.
I served in the Marine Corps & did a tour on the drill field. One of my recruits is a Kansas D.O.T. trooper. We met last summer near Cheney. The shoe was on the other foot, but he didn't inspect me. We had some coffee & shared sea stories.
Good DOT Inspection. Officer Was Nice To You
Not a DOT Officer he's a State Tropper.
you lucky
@@7508dan he never said he was a dot officer.
Yeah this was a professional encounter. Was nice to watch

But when it's a level 1 and they get the gloves on and get under the truck... yeah, no. Even *_I_* start to feel like some kind of criminal when they go out of their way like that
Yeah are usually take time off when that time comes around but this year I’ve forgotten it
Number off your door? More like check your fire extinguisher and see if the inside of your truck is messy to see if he thinks he should inspect your tractor/trailer...
Scoofio1987 might have been checking the VIN
large companies are notorious for putting plates on wrong truck or trailer, was probably making sure VIN matched registration
i have to say, wonderful videos and good job mr truck driver
Thank you very much for your kind words
I'm in England what are these checks in aid of seems to be an awful waste of time on both parties. Happy new year USA
This is America no Europe
@@gerardochavez6735 yes I know but this seems a waste of time for the truckers. And the UK is not Europe BTW. 😏

I use to jump trucks in the 80's. Now I am a wizard.
When your being inspected you don t log out you are on duty not driving
Dave Collins 9
Right, off-duty to on-duty. JBG needs to learn what the duty statuses mean. Inspection, regardless of what kind is always logged as on-duty. You just got away with a log violation.
Why does it matter either way ?
t hunter because you can only drive 14 or 15 hours a day depending on where you live .
@@voidcheque7019 you can only drive 11hrs a day. Work 14.
If you love your cdl..take the extra hour off your clock and go around scales..and stay off i80 thru ohio and indiana..
I was arrested at the Boone County, Ky I-71 Weigh station for not assisting D.O.T in a safety inspection. Charged with failure to display CDL's on demand, and refusal to submit too safety inspection... Here is what happen. (CASE DISMISSED and EXPUNGED!!)
When I had entered the scale, I was directed to the back too the main scale. (Some states are stop and I.D. states, these types of states are only required to show I.D. if you are suspected of committing a crime, have committed a crime, or a crime is in progress"
After I had given Mr.

What a nice officer
Safe Haven is a term associated with Hazmat parking only.
I think you are looking for this regulation. Adverse Driving Conditions 395.1(b)(1) found in the hours of service section.
It seems to be an acceptable practice by the DOT
Larry Ehrlich yuu yyyyyyyyyyh
You're supposed to log an inspection on duty.
Roger that...."on duty not driving"
Quick question. I know they look at the total amount of hours you've driven. But do they look at how far you have driven within the allotted time as well? Lets say you drove for 11 hours at 65 mph. At the end of 11 hours, total miles driven should be around 715 miles for going 65 mph. What if you are way past the 715 miles? You are within the allotted time but are past the distance for the given speed you were traveling at. Technically, they could give you a speeding ticket.
DOT guy is perfect 👌
I still think it's neat seeing an old cab over earning it's keep. I miss seeing them on the highway. He is right ya know, people don't always tell us the truth.
He doesn't know what he's doing. He went Off Duty while pulling in for the inspection. He had to stay On Duty while being inspected.
What determines them to pull you over? They can do that just for the hell of it? Say you go to the next state can they “inspect “ you or are you good until you get a new load . I didn’t realize they was so much involved to moving goods.
They can pull you over randomly whenever they feel like it
Dot got me for a fire extinguisher before mfs 🤣🤣🤣
