Luckily I’ve been collecting for 15+ years…Full licensed NTSC N64 and NES sets and close to SNES. The better news is I already have every rare licensed game for N64, NES, SNES, GameCube, and PS2. I’ve never sold something I didn’t have a duplicate of…I guess that’s how I’ve ended up with 4,200 games and 150 different console and handheld variations. I also don’t collect for value and have no graded items…even though I probably have 100 sealed games. The value is just a bonus for me. I’m a collector that genuinely just collects for the fun of it. I just happened to be doing it for so long that I have an insane collection.
Nice! I don't have any complete sets and I am not going for any, but I have a nice curated collection of around 700 games and growing. I have every expensive Saturn game that I ever wanted and that includes imports (there are a small number of expensive games that I have no interest in), and I have a few expensive games left to get for TurboGrafx-16 and Turbo CD (including imports). I also don't collect for value, but I will get games that I really want despite the price. I'll be set when everything goes digital.
For me it's 1994 - 1998. Thats the games era that for me looking back just made me so damn happy. It was exciting watching all the first 3D games coming out...
I would think too. But ps2 games i feel we so massed produced unlike super nintendo or the cart style games. But i do think since they are discs many are more likely to be damaged/scratched. Interesting to think about
@@darrenhaywood7924 the ones that are still in pristine condition will be the only ones left. Too many scratched trashed copies. The games with lower print runs and non greatest hits will be the highest. In the next 40 years games will only be vr. But the ps2 will always be known as the stepping stone of gaming progress
Personally, I think 20 years from now it's going to be the current generation of gaming - PS4/5/XBox One/Switch. I grew up on the master system and megadrive BUT its the Sega Saturn/PS1/Dreamcast that hold the most memories and is what I'd like to collect because i was in my late teens and early twenties then. In terms of sheer players, more people are gaming than ever. So all those teens right now who are in the current and prior gen, when they are in the 30s and start having more disposable income you can beat they'll be looking back to now and wanting some of those memories. Just my thoughts
I think 3DS is being overlooked. You can't emulate it. A good condition New 3DS XL is very hard to find and expensive. Games are already moderately high, but still affordable for the more common titles. I see it becoming expensive down the road
Personally i standby with the era you grew up and played with the most. In My Case that was in the later stage of the PS1 and the PS2 and PS3 era. It was where i played the most. PS3 and PS2 in particular are probably the games that have aged the best they have an equal balance without as much faults that are plaguing the modern era but not as many issues ps1 era or before had.
Good topic, never realized that we live in a world of broken and incomplete games which can make it hard for collectors in the future to play. I only have a collection not because of the collecting hobby but because I was tired of the regret once I sold it and had to rebuy for higher prices
Most games are completely playable off disc and even unlocks trophies offline with an unregistered account. I like the TH-camr N GAME ARTS for vids on physical games on disc.
@@WinstonWolfe21 Exactly! The overwhelming majority of games are perfectly playable offline with no updates. I don't know where the misinformation came from.
I say go for the last two generations . By that I mean current and last gen because these will be the most complete best versions of games we will have physically before we see a huge shift towards digital. Older classics will continue to get more expensive but if you get in on collecting these Generations now, you are more likely to find them cheaper. Actually go for any of the older games that you find interest you before they get extremely expensive.
As oddly as it sounds I think the PS5 will eventually become the most expensive system to collect. Why, you ask? Because it will be the LAST console ever made to play physical media. An right now these systems are built to play top of the line 4K dvds which can be a big deal when you look back 20-30 years from now seeing PS5 brand new in the box never been opened. Think of it this way NCAA College Football 2014 was the most expensive sports game. Why? Because it was the last game made until they allowed the game to come back. Mark my words PS5 will be the most expensive. Also because it seems like not everyone is on the news systems. I think a lot of people are divided now with gaming on with steam decks, using computers, still using the PS4. The PS5 is like the “hidden” generation. We are halfway through the systems life and it’s fallen way under everyone’s radar and now there are talks of PS6. So the question is who is buying physical PS5 games if digital is making more money?……… not many
Also to add when physical media dies so does 4K movie players there will be no more 4K blu Ray players sold at BestBuy. So, imagine 20 years from now owning a PS5 that is not only video game system but it plays high quality physical media movies. Being the last system made means the life span will be a lot longer than older Gens. That will all make the PS5 the most expensive system out there if it is the last system that is physical media. As well as kids these days don’t care about physical media but maybe when they are 40 years old and they remember the PS5 that will be their nostalgic connection making the system valuable. Just remember collecting stamps died, model trains died so it all depends on the generations to decide what will become valuable because of their interests.
I dont doubt it, it has the least amount of physical games sales per system than any other generation as most are playing online these days. so those will be harder to find and collect in the long term even for the popular stuff such GOD ragnarock and Horizon Forbbiden Nowhere will be harder to find physically in a few decades.
You are correct to think this way but definitely go for last generation because there are more complete gains on disc for the PS4, Xbox One and switch.
Who’s going to buy your retro games in 20 years? Kids for the last 5 years only play two games, Fortnite and Minecraft. You collectors are screwed long term.

That PSP battery was badly swollen, definitely a fire hazard, toss that out and get a new one.

Look another inbred collector who only really cares about monetary value
gen 4-6 are all good answers imo gen 7 and 4 will probably hold up the best in the long term though gameplay wise for most people
PS1 and N64 have not aged well even today, I don’t think they will have lasting power, SNES has aged better
Gen 4-6 are the best imo.
