I think more people need to realize that it's okay to like or love movie even if its turn out to be bad or lazy. By the end of the day its your opinion and feelings that matter.
I think a lot of time when people get offended if they see someone call their fav movies bad is because they're mad that their taste was being questioned rather than they actually care if the movie quality really good or not.
So yeah, we can like whatever we like while also acknowledge the quality of things we like at the same time.

I definitely agree with this. Towards the end of the video I did talk about my own conflicting feelings and how I love the movie for a lot of reasons other people do. I just also have my criticisms of it.

Oh I completely agree. And I love the movie. But I do feel like it was total cash bait nostalgia grab. But I hated the reason why the plot happened in the first place. That is a mean I hate the whole Doctor strange spell. I hate how he just was willing to cast the spell to erase Spider-Man that it was just easy for him to change the spell and I just thought the whole thing was stupid. I was hoping they would have a much better reason for why all these characters that I loved for movies that I saw when I was younger but getting past that the rest of the movie I thought was pretty good and I hope this is the end of the Tom Holland Spider-Man's cuz I think it wrapped up good and all they're going to do is ruin it if they try to make another one

@ yeah, always talk about this how no way home felt like a quick dopamine hit, I wish we got less of an mcu movie and more of a Tobi or Andrew feeling movie, something with emotion, stakes, and failures. Also thought how andrew and Tobi show up in the same scene is so condensed, I like how they had a quick web shootout for a sec but man I wish Tobi and Tom would have a scene, then Tom and andrew, and then Tobi and andrew, all separate scene, then have them come together at the end.

me and my friends talk about this all the time, and our biggest gripe with the movie is if their dead in their universe it doesn't make sense to "heal" the villains and sending them back to their Universe. they've been dead for years, their loved ones already grieved them and to just send them back is nonsensical . it's not like what happened with Thanos, everything that happened to them was of their own conviction.

This is a huge convenient point that I probably should have included. Beyond the villains being cherry picked to the ones we know, the logic of how they got there and how that tied to some of their deaths is a HUGE thing that is just never addressed. Thanks for bringing this up!

Nah No Way Home saved Tom’s Spider-Man. Brought him into his own despite his mistakes. This was his era of being a kid and making those stupid mistakes and fixing them. Now he’s matured and ready to take on bigger challenges not the fault of his own. Across the spider verse definitely handles the entire concepts of the multiverse better (still some glaring issues that need to be addressed in beyond the spider-verse). But I would still say at no way homes core it’s a story about Tom’s spider-man and the consequences of his mistakes so the multiverse is additive in that way.

    • @benji.movies
      @benji.movies  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +17

I do agree that No Way Home was definitely the best for Tom’s character. I would say that’s more of a critique of the first 2 Spidey films rather than a compliment for No Way Honey. I think we mostly agree though Mr. Cubson.

The movie gave Tom's Spider-Man something homecoming shouldve - which is great for his Spider-Man's development. Problem is he should of already learned this from uncle ben's passing not to mention the plot points for the villains of other movies not lining up, and honestly they played it safe with Tobey's and Andrew's Spider-Men they couldve did so much more, I enjoyed the movie but compared to other recent spidey films its lazy, story telling and everything. Still enjoyed it though. 🙂

@@MonkeySosuke I agree that the multiverse elements in the film were lazy. I think Benjimovies made a good argument for that case. But I just can’t get behind the movie as a whole being lazy. The multiverse elements of no way home was always just for fan and box office turn out. Doing the bare minimum to satisfy both of those camps. But at its core I think a ton of love and care went into peters character this time around. Hitting the natural points in the evolution of his character and doing it excellently. For me it doesn’t matter that this should’ve happened with uncle Ben earlier because this is a different telling of essentially that same story. With May being that stand in

The film definitely is lazy story wise. Memes and jokes and weak story. But it was made during the height of covid. They were limited in what they could do. Filming This movie and getting it out is a masterclass. This is how I see it. No Way Home is a celebration of the Live Action movies, celebrating the memes, the cast, and celebrating the legacy of those movies, having some closure. It's fun nostalgia. Across the Spiderverse is a celebration of everything Spiderman, the comics, the live action movies, the memes, the games, everything. They're both different. And great for what they're doing. Comparing them shouldn't happen. They're both very different. Still great video.

I'm glad someone is finally being open about this. When I first criticized this movie I was attacked. Even though I made valid points. Cheap looking CGI, stupid plot holes, nostalgia bait, especially knowing it was suppoed to be a Kraven vs Spidey movie. Tobey acts like he's never fought a villain in his life, Andrew is overly emotional, and the movie itself is very empty feeling. The death of Aunt May made me laugh, because she was nothing more than eye candy for horny guys who are into 40 year old women😂 this movie actually disappointed me, because I really did have high hopes for it.

Thoughts on Spider-Man: No Way Home:
No Way Home is where I feel Spider-Man is definitely at his peak and finally feels like Spider-Man, as they brought something to the wall-crawler that's always been ignored in recent media, his hidden anger issues, and it went on full display when he beats the crap out of Green Goblin. Even when they've One More Dayed the ending, Peter was definitely in character as sacrificing his social life is something Spider-Man would do for the safety of others.
Plus, I've seen No Way Home 3 times in the cinema, as it is better every time I see it.
When I first saw the trailer, I was sceptical at first; from the way it was set up, it was gonna adapt the most infamous Spider-Man comic of all time, One More Day, but I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt.
The biggest highlights of the film were Matt Murdock's cameo, the return of the villains from the previous films as well as Toby and Andrew and Andrew Garfield still being in my favourite Spider-Man and fans slowly starting to appreciate him more. Many more argue that this film is very fan servicy, but at the same time I think it shows the right amount of fan service in my opinion as they remind you that it's still Tom Holland's Spider-Man film.
That being said, I wouldn't consider this a masterpiece (like another majority of Spider-Man Media), but a lot of fans have ranted about it already with the whole spell situation and continuity errors from the characters, so I'm not going to say it here.
There are only two problems I had with the film, mainly the fact we only have 5 villains instead of 6, I say that because if you've seen the post-credit of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, he was teleported in the MCU and saw Peter on the TV. I was hoping for him to be in the actual movie for a multi-verse Sinister Six. (like, who wouldn't want that? A multi-verse Sinister Six, such a wasted opportunity). Even when he made a cameo in the post-credit scene in No Way Home, I kept asking myself, "Does this count as a Sinister Six movie?" How he can fit in the movie is that he would most likely help the 3 Peter cure the villains as he's an anti-hero in his universe.
My second grip was annoyingly the ending, I'll be the first to admit, that when I first saw the ending, I was very angry at first, cause it relied too heavily on the most infamous Spider-Man comic of all time (One More Day) When I first saw the trailer, I was already scared since Peter and MJ just got together at the end of Far From Home only for it to be taken away, as well as his friendship with Ned. I still love the movie regardless and I still consider it the best out of the MCU trilogy. (Trumping Homecoming in my opinion)
But after seeing Oak's video and his comparison between the movie and the comic, I've realised despite it being the adaptation of One More Day, it was done 10 times better than the comic. I just find it fascinating that the writers had the balls to adapt the most infamous comic and made it tolerable. Nowadays, I don't hate the ending as much every time I rewatch it, especially after learning that it was Tom Holland who recommended this type of ending. And I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but I missed a red and black suit, I know the red and blue is forever iconic, but the red and black gave me Amazing Fantasy vibes.
Now Across The Spider-Verse? Love the film! This is WAY better than the first! (visual wise). I Love Miles's journey throughout the film and how Gwen and 616 Peter developed since the last film. I was so surprised how they've made Spot an actual life-threatening villain instead of comic relief like in previous incarnations. And I still believe that Miguel is a villain, but a more sympathetic one than Kingpin! I had no idea it was the two-parter, ngl, I'm SO MAD that we have to wait until 2027, thanks to the Hollywood strike for Beyond the Spider-Verse. It is still an awesome film, nonetheless, and it's wise that they need more time to make the next film flawless.

What killed No Way Home and what Tom has said on multiple podcasts was the fact it was filmed during the height of Covid, literally during the height of it. He said that he hated having to film on constant blue screens and not really having a lot of freedom and such a low crew. I don't think the film was lazy, honestly the film is good for it's time. You can tell though covid really messed with the filming cause if you look on behind the scenes, spider-man was literally wearing two masks. Plus this is our really first entrance into the multiverse and whatnot. All in all- the film I feel isn't really that lazy. Yes- some things are just there for the rule of cool and for the sake of plot. But if you delve a little deeper, this movie honestly made Tom Hollands Spider-Man. Brought him to his lowest and told us why he's Spider-Man, cause his morals would never change. He'd never want to kill anyone deep down and he knows that. Brought him to his roots at the end of the movie too. Just a lonely person, no tech, no nothing. I still watch this movie a lot and yes, over time my rating gets a bit lower. All in all the movie is a strong: 7.5/10. I feel if it was made now, or made before Covid, it'd do WAY better.

    • @benji.movies
      @benji.movies  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

While I agree that Covid had a huge impact on the filming of this movie, they still spent YEARS on the script and story. That’s not something that Covid would have affected. And if it was, they could’ve delayed the movie. That’s what happened to the new Daredevil show and what is currently happening with Blade. The story or production is not up to par so they delay the project.
My main point here is that my criticism has to do with things that would not be impacted by Covid. And even if they were, there are other ways they could’ve avoided these problems. I appreciate your comment! I think I even rate the movie higher than you!

Spiderverse did everything No Way Home did, but it did it better. No Way Home had so many issues. I think the only reason people like it so much is because they watched it in theaters in 2021. Who knows, maybe I would also love this movie if I watched it in theaters.

The fact that they hired the same writers from the Homecoming trilogy to write Spider-Man 4 AND WITH ZENDAYA RETURNING is a major death sentence. Everything that happened in NWH is because Peter was turned into a reckless idiot for the sake of the plot, not to mention these writers have a fetish for regressing and character assassinating him over and over again. Once you notice how laughably bad the writing in NWH is, including all these distracting plot holes and inconsistencies, you're going to want to PRAY that these writers don't F up the next movie and pull a miracle.

One detail you're missing: Dr. Strange only says that everyone who knows Peter Parker is coming through when Green Goblin destroys the Machina de Kadavus. When Peter-1 1st messes up the spell, Strange mentions that he contained the spell, but some of the get through beforehand. But I don't think Peter-1 messing up the spell is necessarily a bad thing. He's still a teenager, making mistakes & through him trying to clean up his mess. When going against Strange when he wants to send the villains back without giving them a chance to live, Peter's coming into his own. This culminates with his ultimate decision by the end of the movie. This is the movie where MCU Peter starts to grow up & become his own man.
Oh & Across the Spider-Verse is dope too.

Unlike with the Avengers films where it’s meant to crossover characters again and again, Spider-Man No Way Home is a one time event. The first viewing of seeing three live action Spider-Man on screen for the first time was a magical moment, and don’t get me wrong they’re probably gonna do it again in Secret Wars. However, for the plot to be repeated in the sequel would just feel lazy uncreative and repetitive. That’s why the only Multiverse aspect I want from Spider-Man 4 is just New York on Battleworld with a sort of quarantine feel

12:17 in my opinion the reason they only brought these 5 villains back is because they are the most notorious villains of all except for venom who was transported to the 616 universe this is not Marvel’s fault as if they are using Sony’s characters they need to pay more, it’s more of a budget, would I like to have seen rhino reboot so it was a mech like in amazing spider man 2 yes, or Kraven, or even other symbiotes because that’s cool but very very expensive.

I saw it once and thought it was a steaming pile of garbage. This was when nostalgia baiting was at an all time high in hollywood and man was it awfully lazy. The movie was extremely rushed and because of that the visuals are a little off and the story, incoherent.
Peter needs Strange to manipulate the minds and consciousness of everyone on earth and in order to do that he needs to manipulate time, space, the multiverse and the multiverse barriers to do so? What sense does that make? The writing for Strange is beyond lazy.
Sandman is fighting against the guys trying to get him home and on the side of Electro who wants to destroy the box and make it so he can never see his daughter again. Again, what sense does that make? Sandman should clobber the 1 guy who keeps saying he wants to destroy the box.
The Garfield and Maguire cameos felt beyond cheap and rushed. I guess they could only afford them to go to 2 locations and for 15 minutes because what the heck was that? Holland still never really came into his own in the end. He went from leeching off Tony to leeching off Maguire and Maguire's villains. Nostalgia baiting reminds us how great the past but completely forgets about the present and the future. Cover new ground. Hollywood in this time was so stuck up on trying to relive the glory days, it was pathetic

What bug's me about NWH is character interactions how the characters react to situations plot holes and how characters are written the only good characters are doc oc the goblin and Andrew
They could have used this movie to exsplan if there is a mcu Uncle ben but they don't tom peter dose not even react when the other ones mention him and they don't even ask about him to toms Peter like so what was your Uncle like then he could have said i never had one just may but there's nothing
Could have had alot of grate stuff with sandman sense he is being cured by the nephew of the guy he murdered could have had him try to protect may from the goblin but they just completely ruined his character
He trys to kill the peter from his universe
Why is dock ock the only one asking questions like where am i what is going on here the lizerd just sits in the cell not asking any questions just making jokes about max like really come on you just got captured by a magic guy and you are not at all shocked
And when doc oc finds out the lizard is doctor coners he dose not even react even thought they are friends in the rami movies
They decided to change it where Norman never agreed with the goblin and when he is in control he can't remember when that is not how it was in the movie also he thinks stupid frozen burritos are more important then being cured of a evil bomb throwing psycho
I don't like how Toby and Andrew where both already in this universe when we see them and the way they come in is boring
Toby Peter is not asking any questions or surprised shocked or spatchless that people he watched die are alive again
Just takes it like its no big deal
When Andrew says he already cured Doctor Conners they all just stare at each other toby dose not say anything about his doctor conners toby and Andrew don't even talk about Harry or ask who ned is even when ned says he won't become a super villain still nothing about harry there is other problems but you get it

Also we don't need to "contrast" the way the multiverse was used. One movie using a concept does not determine how that concept must be used in all films.

@@benji.movies You have a good point, however they were conveniently chosen to be the ones we know, because we know them. Us having seen the original spider-man movies is not part of the movie, I don't know if I'm explaining this easily or not, so feel free to ask me to try to explain it better, but basically Peter Parker does not see Raimi Spider-Man and say "ohhh hey you're from the original movie!"

As for your second part, I wouldn't say them differing from spiderverse wrecks the story at all, it is it's own narrative and it is allowed to have its own story.
      P.S
It doesn't really make sense why Venom would be brought in, Sony just demanded it happen, but they had some weird excuse you can search up.

Oh absolutely because it seems like a waste of time with this multiverse stuff as they should have brought in the Scorpion as that would have been a prefect payoff for the post credit of Homecoming and that he wanted to make forget his identity for petty college funds

I believe it is fine to enjoy a movie that was more of a celebration than a brilliant masterpiece. I love both movies. One made me relive my childhood while the other inspires my future.
Sure, No way home had some lazy choices- jell, the inclusion of the Lizard and Electro speaks for itself, but for the sake of the movie's purpose- that being a celebration- I think it did what it sought to achieve.

No way home is the best movie in tom's trilogy and this is coming from someone who hated his Spiderman. The way they treated everything as a joke and tom not really having consequence till the end of far from home to no way home I love it. Andrew and Tobey role in the story is tell Tom's peter that he is doing the right thing and try not to be bitter. It changed the way I see his spiderman. The spiderverse is different from the start it was built to be a multiversal origin story to honor the legacy of spiderman. Across the spiderverse is more of the same, while telling its own story.

The whole point was how spiderverse makes no way home look lazy. I make this very clear in the videos intro. I don’t know how I could’ve had the title and thumbnail reflect that without being more confusing. The title and thumbnail were accurate, but the video showed the nuance of the topic. That’s how a lot of TH-cam work imo.

I was somewhat harsh on No Way Home before it came out (I was one of the people who didn’t like the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, and I was one of the people who hated Far From Home) so I thought No Way Home would suck even more Far From Home, especially when I assumed it was trying so cash in on the success of Into the SpiderVerse, by being a Multiverse Movie (No Surprise), but when I actually saw the movie. I even thought it was pointless to have Andrew & Tobey pretend they weren’t in the movie, despite the trailers spoiling the entire film by having all the villains in No Way Home be villains from both the Rami Trilogy, and the Webb Duology, thereby making it obvious Garfield & Tobey were going to be in the movie.
But, when I went to see the movie in theaters, I was amazed that I was wrong about the movie and that it was actually good. Granted, I didn’t think it was a masterpiece, even when it came out, I did think it had problems. But I did think it was a good movie, and if it weren’t for that movie, I wouldn’t have seen the 2nd Sonic Movie, which I thought was ok, when it came out.
Nowadays, it’s pretty common to see people complain about No Way Home. Me though, while I do think the movie’s good, as I’ve said, I do think it has its issues. Stuff like having Sandman be the Spider-Man 3 rep instead of Venom, or how Aunt May’s death caused Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to learn that with great power comes responsibility, despite him already learning that prior to Civil War, is still things I have issues with.
Honestly, my biggest problem with it is that despite the fact it’s the third MCU Spider-Man movie, it really feels more like the 2nd movie. I really hated Far From Home for being a carbon copy of Homecoming, and it really feels Homecoming gets ignored in the following sequels. This is ironic, as back when NWH came out, lots of Spider-Fans believed the MCU Spider-Man movies were just one big origin story for the character, similar to Smallville. But I really disagree with that, as the entire point of the MCU Spider-Man movies (At least, when Homecoming came out) was that it was trying to move away from the origin story, since it was already done before in the Garfield Duology, and it was trying so hard to distance themselves from the Garfield Duology, especially when Homecoming was kind of made as a response to the Amazing Spider-Man 2’s box office disappointment.
Personally, I would’ve rewrote Far From Home and just have it be written as if it came out before Infinity War, and then I would have No Way Home be a sequel to Into the SpiderVerse instead. The movie would still be a crossover between the Movie Spider-Men, but I think having it connect with the SpiderVerse films and have Shameik Moore’s Miles interact with the three Live Action Spider-Men would be neat. Gives me Shattered Dimensions vibes.

Majority of people that have an issue with Miles Morales are Racist. Just gonna call it what it is 🤣
Comic fans back in the day (decade+) had a point to hate the character, since there was little depth outside of being an replacement for Peter Parker, in modern media that’s not the case anymore. & in mainstream, everyone isn’t hardcore comicbook fans.
So again, majority of people that hate Miles Morales are racist 🤣

I feel like it was pathetic to use old villains to make Tom Holland Spider-Man to be more mature like the other two. They could’ve just make a new villains for Tom but instead they use Willem Dafoe Green Goblin as the villain for Tom Holland. Usually if its for character growth it’s fine but come on man this shows that marvel have ran out of ideas for the Spider-Man movies instead of making a new villains they chose the old villains which I find it very pathetic to use it because we all know that Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, and Thomas Hayden Church was the original villains for Tobey Maguire same with Electro and Lizard was the villains for Andrew Garfield now all Marvel can do is just use the previous villains from old movies and make it a Tom Holland Spider-Man villains which I find Marvel is lazy and ran out of ideas. Don’t hate me it’s just my opinion.

And of the five villains who came, Electro never knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man, and he even told his Peter that he thought he was black. So, even if all those other Spider-Man characters had ended up somewhere else like how Venom ended up in South America, Electro being there breaks the rules of the spell.

They could’ve done it better tho, they CHOOSE to do it worse…there’s so many things they could’ve done differently. That IS lazy writing, they didn’t do it because it’s a great plot idea, they did it for people like you who only wanted to see 3 spidermen on screen whether if it’s good or not. You proved his point.
