    Does an air/oil separator accomplish the same thing as the waste gate?

    • @Autofreakgarage
      @Autofreakgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two different things. AOS is an air oil separator. Wastegate is exhaust.

    Did you have to take the Perrin strut tower bar off for this intercooler? or how come it was off here?? Sorry I am just wondering, as I'd like that TMIC ! Thanks!

      It was after my part out right before the car sold. Yes, I ran it the entire time with the Grimmspeed tmic.

    Other vehicles with catless setups are still not as loud as the STi. Not really sure why subarus are so loud.

    • @Autofreakgarage
      @Autofreakgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine is not catless. I was catless on my m3 back in the day and that was very loud. The EWG on Subarus is what makes these things deafening.

    Mine did the same thing! Around 2K RPM I would get a rattle. But only on deceleration.

    Hey man, I've been a huge fan of your channel and build for a long time now. I really appreciate all the thought you put into modding your car and respect the fact that you do nothing just for the views. I really hope to have my 2018 STI to the level of perfection yours was. I live in NYC and don't really have the room/tools to work on my car, so I was wondering if you have any recommendations for shops. Thank you for all the amazing content!

    What’s the hosing on your hood? Is that the I/C spray for the TMIC? Also I cannot wait to install my blouch 20g and external waste gate. Do you think it’s cost efficient to have the wastegate plumbed into the DP but on a valve so you can dump straight to atmosphere or the DP for quieter runs?

    • @Autofreakgarage
      @Autofreakgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what hosing you are referring to. I don’t have an ic spray though.
      Personally, would have it routed to the dp. Would still get the benefits, but it would be obnoxiously loud all the time when you are on it.

    • @Aphrodave
      @Aphrodave 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Autofreakgarage is it possible to have that extra re-routed pipe from the EWG-->DP be on a valve? So you can straight dump or go silent?

    • @Autofreakgarage
      @Autofreakgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would have to be tuned one way or another since the flow would be vastly different. But it can be done. You’d just need to load the appropriate map on for which one you’re running at the time.

  • @SonikJesus

    Thanks for this. I’m actually looking at external wastegates right now and never got what that sound was that some STis had. Knowing that it is the external wastegate, helps me a ton. I prefer a cleaner sound with the exhaust, intake noise, and a little turbo whine.

    For me, the one regret I have for my WRX is not being fully prepared to DIY my aftermarket C lights and circular ring light kit. It wasn't a plug and play kit so I had to splice wires, but there are some oddities about the way it works with the auto-light sensor that just bugs me... I guess I got what I paid for, which wasn't much! Admittedly I saved a lot of money, hahaha.

  • @lucian7182

    • @lucian7182
      @lucian7182 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xil3ntkha0s I would hardly call that a communist state, most states have a law on the books regarding noise pollution whether or not they enforce that is another story. Here in CA 95db is the law which is honestly pretty loud especially on a daily. After a year of driving with an exhaust at 94 db I went with one that was 88 db. No drone and much easier to live with.

    Totally understand the external waste gate dump tube noise getting old after a while, even with some of the louder cat back exhausts I’ve tried on the STI, it’s great for the first week or so then once you live with it, you can really decide if you want to leave it on the car. Would one regret also be buying a carbon fiber hood as I know you got rid of your VIS one?

    • @Autofreakgarage
