Lone432345 Considering the point of a hd collection is to improve the orginal versions of the games, the backlash is well deserved. Doesn't help that the collection included the beta versions of the games though.
I would suggest 2, hour long videos to point out everything wrong with the games... but that video has lead to death threats against the person they hold responsible. The PS2 versions are the best unless you have them on PC.
Regarding DmC 2: "The fighting feels slightly more refined, and personally I do feel that this game improves on the first one." Legendary quote! Joe confirmed for having patrician taste.
Skyler any idea why they didn't patch the 360 version? Most people in the comments section (so far) seem to be only aware that the non-patched version even exists as all they're doing is moping and complaining. Did nobody but me get the PS3 version?

That Silent Hill HD collection.... (sigh). Good 'ole Twin Perfect made a great video talking about it a few years ago. I'll just stick to my originals :)
There's actually a lot of stuff that went wrong on SH2 specially on the audio department and the fog effect was actually terribly done =P If anything the biggest loss here was the fact that from the comparisons I've seen SH3 was actually *very* well done especially w/ the blood/creeping wall effects and whatnot which looked great on the upgraded engine and it's brought down by the mistakes done on SH2
RocKM001 Guess I'd have to play the original PS2 version and the HD version back to back to notice, didn't nothing anything wrong when I played SH2 HD.
Of all the games I've played in my life, I really wish Bandai-Namco would do a complete remaster of Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil. I played that game on PlayStation 2, and it became my absolute favorite on the system, and one of my favorite games of all time. The only issue is: very few have heard of it.

Joe, Digital Foundry did an awesome episode on the Silent Hill series and covered the differences between ALL games on every system, he even pointed out some of the lacking and blatantly missing gfx on the HD remaster. And I agree SH1 needed some love and attention too. Another great episode.
I played through SH2 for the first time recently on this collection. I thought it was awesome. I never played the PS2 original version (though watch utube vids comparing them). I did notice some serious frame drops in rooms with dense vegetation which kinda sucked, but otherwise I thought it was on point.
great episode, I loved learning all the little million things that separate a good hd remaster from a bad one, really fascinating and loved you guys as always. Really interesting and insightful episode
Wasn't the Silent Hill Remasters considered to be very poor compared to the originals? I remember a really large backlash against that release due to the games not running as well as the originals & a loss of atmosphere due to the way it handled certain effects. That seemed to be the case for many Konami HD remasters. The Zone of the Enders HD release was notorious for being just plain terrible in terms of performance. It did get patched to make it playable tho, but only on PS3...
I keep seeing Dave bang on about Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, as well as other people go on about how much they love Shadow of the Colossus. This video finally made me order the HD remake of the two games since I've not played either before.
Xtreme Games Agreed, 100%. And, in reality the PS2 version is the only authentic way to experience SH2. There are too many visual characteristics missing from SH2 in the remaster, for my taste. "Cleaning up" the fog just kills it for me.
That may be. I haven't played much more than an hour and a half through either the first or the second game (yet). Maybe part 2 starts sucking hard at two hours in? From what I played so far though I found part 2 a little less obnoxious in the stage design and had no issues with the combat.
Game Sack There isn't much wrong with DMC2 per sé when taken on its own, but when compared to DMC1 everything just feels barren and lifeless. The environments are bigger sure, but they're mostly flat surfaces with repeating textures instead of the interesting architecture from the first game. The enemies in DMC2 have uninspired designs and don't pose much of a challenge, so you don't need to develop a lot of skill to get through them. Dante himself has none of the wisecracking attitude from the first game, he's mostly a silent brooding boring dude in DMC2. And what passes for a story feels detached and unimportant. The whole game is just low on entertainment value, which is a shame since the original was such a highly entertaining fast-paced action game.
It's a shame that Dante is so much worse in DMC2 cause his design is cool. At least that design got to be in a good game when Dante made a cameo in Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne.
DMC2 is crap and the first DMC is a masterpiece, maybe the hack and slash genre is not your "strenght", nothing wrong with that though but you guys should mention it, I don`t play FPS so much so I wouldn`t even attempt to review an FPS game
totally agree, DMC 2 Dante is great in terms of design His cameo on Nocturne was because Kazuma Kaneko (SMT character/monster Designer) designed Dante`s devil form on DMC2.
1080p isn't 4 times the resolution of 480x272, it's almost 16 times the resolution. Remember that we are working in squares here! But it's a pretty common mistake to make.
JarekTheGamingDragon The empty level design alone is dreadful, super cringe, what an amateur level designer would do in his first semester at say Digipen or Full Sail 👌🏻
There needs to be a part 2, maybe even part 3! Some of my favorite HD remasters (not included in the video): Sly Cooper HD Collection Ratchet & Clank HD Collection Jak & Daxter HD Collection Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Ninja Gaiden Sigma Resident Evil Remastered Gravity Rush Remastered Zelda Wind Waker HD Zelda Twilight Princess HD Beyond Good & Evil HD
Okami HD is the most impressive and my favorite;) I mean the game render 3840x2160(4K) internally before down sampling to 1920x1080p +16x anisotropic filtering .. on a ps3. The game is so gorgeous and a masterpiece:)
Instantly clicked, great video! I think the Master Chief Collection for Xbox One is one of the best, for sure. Online is working great now, and playing through all the games in co-op split screen is a joy!
My favorite is the Wind Waker HD remaster :D Not only did they make a beautiful game look even better, but the extra speedy sail you can get that not only lets you sail faster, but sail in any direction without changing the direction of the wind is very much appreciated!
Interesting Fact: in the olden days, farmers used to set fire to their property every year or 2 to clear off the brush that had accumulated. Keep in mind I'm talking about old farms, how they used to be, which are not like modern farms. Farmers did a little of everything, including having a woods to hunt in. Burning every year or 2 kept the flames small enough they weren't hot enough to burn down trees or fences. There wasn't enough debris to do that since it was burnt so often.
This is the second time I've read this in the comments regarding the SH remaster and death threats. I want to hear more it sounds ridiculous, yet somehow not surprising simultaneously
That Silent Hill HD collection has a LOT of problems, actually. Areas that don't load, causing your character to run around in a black void with no way to progress, random freezes, missing textures, among other things. Even hearing how bad it was, I still bought it, wanting to give it a chance, and hoping all of the negatives were just hyperbole. Turns out it's not; they did a really shoddy job with it. 2 outstanding games that deserved a lot better. Also, they left out Silent Hill 4:The Room, which is strange because it was a PS2 title.
The Metal Gear Solid HD collection is pretty great. Updates the games to run in 720p, updates MGS3 to run at 60fps instead of 30, Peace Walker to run at 60 instead of 20. Also gives Peace Walker a new control scheme to take advantage of console controllers.
yea but they aren't going to remaster MGS1 so why would it really matter other than giving new people the whole story (a story that most people can't follow any way)... would've been cool had they remastered Twin Snakes though.
Ico and Shadow of the Colossus collection is the pinnacle of what an HD remaster should be. It fixes every major issue from both games original releases.
The Silent Hill HD collection is the worst way to play 2 and 3. They're riddled with problems and as you mentioned are literally unfinished. The PC versions are much better after some tweaking. Also from Konami, the Metal Gear Solid HD collection is fantastic, and completely overhauls Peace Walker. It makes the PSP version unplayable by comparison and does wonders for MGS3. I'm surprised you didn't cover it.
I would love that those games are great. But I read that since those games used likeness of actual actors they would have to pay royalties to them again or some legal stuff like that. That's why we dont see them. Why capcom doesnt just make a new game is beyond me but Crapcom seems stuck in Resident Evil and Street Fighter only
Unless you're a game collector, HD remasters are usually the way to go because normally you get more than one game, and enhanced graphics while keeping the gameplay intact. Other HD remasters worth noting are Ratchet & Clank Trilogy, Jak & Daxter Trilogy, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Hitman Trilogy...
Hello guys! Amazing show! I have couple of hd games from different times: 1. Killzone 1 for ps3 (came in trilogy, quite good in fact) 2. Half Life 2 in Orange Box package for ps3 3. Doom 3 BFG edition (I saw vetter graphical mods over pc, but as for ps3 it looks cool) 4. Zombi for ps4 (it's way better looking game version than nintendo wii u) 5. Metro Redux for ps4. (Both included games in HD and also first one has added second part weapon upgrade system, so cool) 6. The Serious Sam Collection for xbox 360 (both old versions were remade in glorious hd, with proper new texture, lighting and physics engines. Though they left old sound and audio, but in general it's one of the best hd collection's that I have) Thank you for your show!
I love this channel, guys. Your videos are informative, they're well edited and seem to take a fair bit of skill/care and are hosted by two genuinely likable guys. Far superior to anything being put out by TH-cam "lets screamers" and vapid video game news channels, like ign or gamespot. I'd be interested in seeing you guys cover more new releases and modern games.
Resident Evil 4 in HD is good and all, but we all know the best version will always be the Wii edition... Why? Because of those sweet pointer controls that make the aim so much easier, better and more precise!!
Michirin9801 ive got that but I preferred to use the Classic controller pro. Though I think you can use the GameCube controller on the Wii version too.
Tom Hill You probably can, a bunch of Wii games supported Game Cube controllers... But personally, I think that using the wii pointer controls is the one true way to play RE:4 ;3
The crappy reverbed audio on the Prince of Persia HD games can be "fixed" (sort of) by setting your console to stereo output. It's stupid that those games got through QA in this form and that they were never patched, but at least there is a workaround.
Homewold Remastered Collection is a compilation of the original Homeworld and Homeworld 2 for PC. Both games are redone in updated Homeworld 2 engine, which makes first game look really good.
My favourites on my PS3 & PS4 are:- Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4 remasters. I also like both God Of War Collections from the PS2 & PSP. I'm looking forward to the Resident Evil 2 Remaster and I may also pick up the Batman Arkham games Remaster and the Nathan Drake collection.
Cool that the HD Remasters of Silent hill 2& 3 were covered here; it's the only remastered covered here that I own, but I haven't played much of it. I will play the games someday though, and hopefully I'll adjust to the tank controls.
I'd argue WWHD was downgrade in the visual department. They added too much bloom, and it was worse in pre release! Wasn't it marketed as a remake? If so, why were only a few models give higher poly count?? TPHD I know less about, but I assume they did the same thing.
protocetid have you played WWHD?? It's amazing compared to the original. The game was completely remade and it shows. I've got both GameCube and Wii U editions and believe me the the HD version is definitely the one to play.
Tom Hill WWHD's gameplay alterations do make it more enjoyable, but it definitely was not "complete remade". It almost looks like an amateur enhanced graphics patch that you'd play in Dolphin.
Good thing I always look at game reviews before getting the games including remakes as well. I already save my money from not getting Silent Hill HD remake.
Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena. First port was on the original Xbox. Visual on the PS3 remaster are much improved and refined. That's one hd remaster that I've bought for my library. That I know of of coarse.
BFG Edition was just polishing the engine for better visuals (which reminds me of the Wolfenstein reboot in quality) and the flashlight change which makes the game less challenging. All too subtle in exchange for substantially higher PC requirements.
Jamesbuc It seems they aren't familiar with the series, and the lack of research shows, which makes me wonder why they'd cover it when they don't know shit about it.
I thought the Silent Hill HD Collection was false advertising. Kinda like if a company said you'll get the original Star Wars films remastered, but they gave you Newer version of the Star Wars Special Edition with new voice overs that doesn't line up with the subtitles. Heck the title "Silent Hill HD Collection" is false advertising.
How about Okami HD? That one was done pretty well. Also, the Ratchet and Clank Collection. Some people are complaining about glitches I 'm not all that familiar with the originals so I didn't notice anything wrong with the games. They run at a pretty stable 60fps.
So much wrong here. DMC2 better than DMC1? Not getting WHY there is a voice option about Silent Hill 2? (It's a huge spectacle of Konami being shitty about voice actors) Really?
You look at HD Remasters, yet you don't look at the pair of JRPGs that literally have "HD Remaster" in the title. aka where's Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster? And where's the Jak trilogy? Jak 1 is my favorite platformer (fuck 2 and 3). Would like to see you guys look at all these if you do another episode on HD Remasters!
I think the ICO and Shadow Of The Colossus HD Collection is the best example of a game staying 100% faithful to it's original while fixing the technical aspects and improving visuals.
is 3d TV still a growing trend or what? A lot of these being presented in 3d, when 3d tv was the new thing, but I don't see or hear much about it these days.
Yeah 3DTVs are not made any more. Good luck finding one. There isn't any 3D in the specs for 4K TV like there were for 1080p Blu-ray, but I imagine some could be wedged in there should 3D become popular again... which I hope it doesn't. Just goes to show you that gimmicks lead short lives.
Game Sack thanks for the reply Joe. Never got into the whole 3d thing, apart from the odd movie in the cinema. I personally think 3d is in the past and the next big thing is VR. Well maybe if that doesn't become an expensive gimmick and we only see it for a few years. Just imagine the PS VR and Oculus Rift in the bargain bins in a few years. Well I guess time will tell.
Tom Hill In my opinion VR will remain niché at best. It will never be mainstream, not as long as you need to wear stuff. Hell even wearing 3D glasses helps bring the death of 3D each and every time it becomes popular. And even without the glasses, most people play their 3DS with the slider set to 2D, even on the New 3DS with face tracking. Virtual Reality will really take off when people can afford to have holodecks/holosuites in their homes (and the technology exists).
shadoom DMC is a genre-defining game by one of the most venerated directors. Really, for a game enthusiast to not know any game by Kamiya is pretty unfortunate, let alone his major works like Resident Evil 2 or DMC. But even so, DMC is a metiruclously crafted game while DMC2 is clearly a goddamn mess, both of which is obvious if one spends even a couple of hours with each game.
You can tell by Joe's gameplay that he's a Novice to the series. He also praised the Silent Hill HD Garbage Collection, so yeah, it's not his specialty.
Really Silent Hill HD is disastrous collection. There is numerous videos from dozens of minutes to hours long going through things that are just wrong in the HD just about in every way. This includes but is not limited to, having wrong sound effects in wrong places, having sound effects play at wrong speeds, swapping graphic around to extreme (Making beaten down town look not beaten down at all, changing numbers in signs for no reason. The surround sound was apparently great but it also swaps left and right with no reason in cutscenes. There is very poor audio placement in cutscenes, technical problems with, but not limited to, graphical glitching, wrong visual effects, outright slowdowns of games, crashing, etc. Silent Hill HD collection is not worth it especially when you consider that originals that are mostly bug free exist for PC, can go even beyond the 720p HD collection is presented at, do not contain any of the technical hiccups, and are cheaper and still compatible with modern PC's mostly to boot. Do not ever bother with Silent Hill HD.
oh yeah, I forgot the point where original developers once saw screenshots of the released version were asking "This is really the released version? Really?" on Twitter, and lamenting the HD version's state and it's impact on their story.
The Silver Case got an HD remaster this october. Its kind of a big deal as it was a visual novel with over 16 hours of text so nobody everr believed a fan or official translation would ever exist.
Whaaat?! No Remaster of the original Cybernator for the SNES? (Valken Assault Suits on PS2) DISLIKED/UNSUBSCRIBED!!!!!! nah just kidding, even though i liked the Remaster of the game since it added the censored cutscenes and faces in. Also it was a lot harder in the first stages and got then easier... weird. ( well the music sucked very hard, not even an explosion sound when your mech explodes!? )
Devil May Cry 2 improves on the original? Yeah.... no. DMC2 has worse level design but what is the worst about the game is combat. What everyone liked about the first game was severely butchered with terrible enemies and lack of any challenge or difficulty. I also felt the cpmbat was kind of floaty but perhaps it's just me. Overall, without enemies packing a punch and awesome bosses Devil May Cry 2 turns into a boring hack'n'slash, where spamming one single attack is okay. I'd say it even worse than the reboot.
It seems that both of Devil May Cry 2's disks are not just really similar in content - they are more or less identical. You could load the start screen for one disc, insert the other, choose either character and play through the entire game without a single discrepancy. It's kind of baffling.
This is, without a doubt, the most positive review of Silent Hill HD Collection I've seen so far.
It's far from the best versions of each game but they are playable enough after the patches. Shame about the bugs and aesthetic changes.
i have only played the Ps2 editions. But somehow i bet the problems with HD version are overblown. As it usually is with overly sensitive gamers.
Konami deserved the backlash... but not the one guy videos blame for it.
Is that your massive backyard?! It looks like a nature preserve, large enough to hold animals!
hi MJ
Looking for hidden jems? :-P
MetalJesusRocks
I wish I had a smaller yard, honestly. But at the same time I don't want the neighbors any closer.
Only a real man cleans up the yard with a plastic tub and his bare hands...rakes...pff....who needs 'em?
That's funny. "GOW's gameplay never gets old". Very funny.
Regarding DmC 2:
"The fighting feels slightly more refined, and personally I do feel that this game improves on the first one."
Legendary quote! Joe confirmed for having patrician taste.
"Made for the Gamecube controller; I mean it really couldn't be more perfect..."
Try the Wii version, you'll be shocked how amazing it feels.
You guys are apparently the only people that like the Silent Hill HD remaster.
No we're not. And also, I don't really care what the general consensus of people on the internet is. It in no way influences my opinion.
Opinions, how do they even work!
I read they didn't have the finalized games , only pre-builds , lol
It helps that they played the PS3 version that got a patch. The 360 never did. I would recommend the PC versions.
Skyler any idea why they didn't patch the 360 version? Most people in the comments section (so far) seem to be only aware that the non-patched version even exists as all they're doing is moping and complaining. Did nobody but me get the PS3 version?

I loved the Wii version of RE4 I feel like it took advantage of wii controls better then 90% of 3rd party wii games. I was impressed.
That Silent Hill HD collection.... (sigh). Good 'ole Twin Perfect made a great video talking about it a few years ago. I'll just stick to my originals :)
Spot on. And they rock
They must have only messed up SH3 in that collection, played through 2 and it was fine, nothing wrong with it.
There's actually a lot of stuff that went wrong on SH2 specially on the audio department and the fog effect was actually terribly done =P
If anything the biggest loss here was the fact that from the comparisons I've seen SH3 was actually *very* well done especially w/ the blood/creeping wall effects and whatnot which looked great on the upgraded engine and it's brought down by the mistakes done on SH2

EarthboundX you will... The fog and sound effects are terrible

You'll be glad to hear that they recently announced it. Congratulations 🥳
Funny, I actually bought the Devil May Cry HD collection earlier today. Oh Game Sack, I love when your videos are so coincidently linked to my life.
With all of the HD collections now a days, this is a much appreciated video! Thank you!
I bet they not gonna mention this game, so here are the shout out to THE SILVER CASE - best HD remake ever made!
looking this up now
A great game from Suda 51 as always :)
***** Its this better all early access modern season dlc pass crap.
Game Sack is quality. Thank you so much for all those great episodes.
Devil May Cry 2 improves on the first game? Am I hearing wrong? Devil May Cry 2 is such a step back in so many ways... the combat especially. It's a miracle Devil May Cry 3 happened considering how bad of a sequel DMC 2 was.
Also that DMC 3 footage made me cringe. I now realize why you like DMC 2... Do some other combos, launch enemies in the air and mix things up and you'll get a better rank. I'm not trying to be rude and I'm not expecting expert level play from you guys... but yours is bad even on a casual level.
Still enjoyed the rest of the video. :)
***** I know they're casual dudes, that's why I enjoy watching their videos. :))
But even casuals hate DMC 2. I just find it odd that they'd choose DMC 2 over the original DMC.
Had me cringing. I thought the video was being sarcastic after that and the Silent Hill recommendation.
Being a causal as a kid growing up, devil may cry 2 was such a bad game that it had me putting back in the first game in disbelief how bad the second one was.

He also said he liked the direction Resident Evil went in after 4 so I don't think their opinions are to be taken to heart.
I was going to go to sleep but fuck that Game Sack!
Why, it's 5pm?
fcukugimmeausername I guess different time zones.
lol it's almost 3 am in my time zone
time traveler.

Other good HD Remasters:

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5
Final Fantasy X

Tales of Symphonia
Hitman Trilogy
Gravity Rush
Not so good Remasters:

Also, maybe it's related, but you can also do an episode on "Definite Editions". While I do think there is room for remastered games from the 6th generations to the 7th, I don't think there is a lot of justification between a jump from the 7th to the 8th. SOME ideas are:
Good definitive editions:
Tomb Raider (PS4 in 1080p 60fps)
The Last of Us
Dark Souls 2 (The game is definitely more balanced)
Earth Defense Force 4.1
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection
BAD ones, and this time I mean BAD:
Prototype Biohazard Collection (It suffers from more framerates and screen tearing than the original versions)
Dishonored (No apparent improvements)
Deadpool (Pretty much the same game from the PS3)
Hope this little addendum I made will be of some usage in the future.
Iko and shadow of the colossus was a great set! It was the first time I was able to play them and I was blown away, I keep the box in a special spot on our shelf
Bluepoint does the best remasters.
Joe, Digital Foundry did an awesome episode on the Silent Hill series and covered the differences between ALL games on every system, he even pointed out some of the lacking and blatantly missing gfx on the HD remaster.
And I agree SH1 needed some love and attention too. Another great episode.
Silent Hill HD collection lol... now I know this video is a joke video XD
right, they didn't mention all of the nasty glitches that can happen
I played through SH2 for the first time recently on this collection. I thought it was awesome. I never played the PS2 original version (though watch utube vids comparing them). I did notice some serious frame drops in rooms with dense vegetation which kinda sucked, but otherwise I thought it was on point.
DiscordedHaru exactly
Silent Hill HD Collection was false advertising
Bobby Nick In what way?
great episode, I loved learning all the little million things that separate a good hd remaster from a bad one, really fascinating and loved you guys as always. Really interesting and insightful episode
I swear if Game Sack ever goes to a convention that I attend again, I am getting them to sign a boxed copy of Greendog for me
Wasn't the Silent Hill Remasters considered to be very poor compared to the originals? I remember a really large backlash against that release due to the games not running as well as the originals & a loss of atmosphere due to the way it handled certain effects.
That seemed to be the case for many Konami HD remasters. The Zone of the Enders HD release was notorious for being just plain terrible in terms of performance. It did get patched to make it playable tho, but only on PS3...
it was a colossal mess of unbelievable incompetence.
"I feel like [Devil May Cry 2] improves on the first one." Et tu, Joe? D: The combat in 2 blows.
@lest its better than DmC in most ways :P
I didn't feel that way.
+Game Sack come on Joe, the movement was more confined in DMC1, but much more tight and precise... ':/
NickBLeaveIt DMC 2 is the best DMC
DMC2 is OK in the gameplay department. My main problem with that game, however, is that it's PISS EASY.
I keep seeing Dave bang on about Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, as well as other people go on about how much they love Shadow of the Colossus. This video finally made me order the HD remake of the two games since I've not played either before.
If you want the real Silent Hill experience that Team Silent intended for the games, avoid the HD collection like the plague.
Xtreme Games yeah, that plastic turd should be contaminated for the eternity
I bought the HD collection on PS3 and ended up returning it. Even as a collector, I didn't want to waste money on such a broken port.
Agreed. No Heather Morris, no sale.

Agreed, 100%. And, in reality the PS2 version is the only authentic way to experience SH2. There are too many visual characteristics missing from SH2 in the remaster, for my taste. "Cleaning up" the fog just kills it for me.
What about the PC or Xbox Original Version?
Gamesack saves the day yet again for me, I love your content! It's a good feeling when I see a new video come up during my lunch break lol
Devil May Cry 2 improved over the first game? Uhm...were we playing the same game? I mean the helicopter and tank battles are obnoxious as hell.
DMC2 is crap and the first DMC is a masterpiece, maybe the hack and slash genre is not your "strenght", nothing wrong with that though but you guys should mention it, I don`t play FPS so much so I wouldn`t even attempt to review an FPS game
totally agree, DMC 2 Dante is great in terms of design
His cameo on Nocturne was because Kazuma Kaneko (SMT character/monster Designer) designed Dante`s devil form on DMC2.
Been a fan of Game Sack since day 1 and I must say this is my favourite episode yet. Very interesting, please do more!
greendog is bob cornhole's favorite game.
1080p isn't 4 times the resolution of 480x272, it's almost 16 times the resolution. Remember that we are working in squares here! But it's a pretty common mistake to make.
Yo hold up. Did he just say DMC2 was an improvement over DMC1? LOL
Lol, a half finished game is an improvement? I don’t think so.
JarekTheGamingDragon The empty level design alone is dreadful, super cringe, what an amateur level designer would do in his first semester at say Digipen or Full Sail 👌🏻
I guess he meant the combat
@@V0YAG3R Now there's a massive (and awful) hot take.
Yeah....... Kinda instantly lowers the value of his opinion if not entirely discredits them unfortunately
There needs to be a part 2, maybe even part 3!
Some of my favorite HD remasters (not included in the video):
Sly Cooper HD Collection
Ratchet & Clank HD Collection
Jak & Daxter HD Collection
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Resident Evil Remastered
Gravity Rush Remastered
Zelda Wind Waker HD
Zelda Twilight Princess HD
Beyond Good & Evil HD
Okami HD is the most impressive and my favorite;)
I mean the game render 3840x2160(4K) internally before down sampling to 1920x1080p +16x anisotropic filtering .. on a ps3. The game is so gorgeous and a masterpiece:)
Instantly clicked, great video! I think the Master Chief Collection for Xbox One is one of the best, for sure. Online is working great now, and playing through all the games in co-op split screen is a joy!
My favorite is the Wind Waker HD remaster :D
Not only did they make a beautiful game look even better, but the extra speedy sail you can get that not only lets you sail faster, but sail in any direction without changing the direction of the wind is very much appreciated!
Cleaning up the leaves: don't you have a flame thrower ?
Now that's a great idea!
RE4 was released on the PC back in the days and the remaster is also available on Steam, not only ps4 and xbone.
uh oh they liked Silent Hill HD. Here comes the death threats
This is the second time I've read this in the comments regarding the SH remaster and death threats. I want to hear more it sounds ridiculous, yet somehow not surprising simultaneously
35mm film processing? When was there 35mm film used in the episode?
Fuck HD Remastereds and new content, we want more Greeeeendog!
KamatsuKyoto What about an HD remaster of Greendog with new content?
6:37 : Billy Chaser from The Game Chasers makes his cameo appearance.
I encountered exactly zero of those issues.
ps3 ver was patched. 360 ver was not.
You might be deaf and blind? Silent hill collection is terrible, I bought it at launch and was super disappointed, the patch didn't fix much.
omegaweaponredux i have the 360 version, i encountered zero of these problems
Are those issues just with SH3 HD? I've played SH2 HD, and I had no problems. I have the 360 version.
The Metal Gear Solid HD collection is pretty great. Updates the games to run in 720p, updates MGS3 to run at 60fps instead of 30, Peace Walker to run at 60 instead of 20. Also gives Peace Walker a new control scheme to take advantage of console controllers.
I'm surprised you didn't include the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection in here. Maybe another time? :D
Hopefully. Although I can already tell you that I'm sad MGS 1 isn't on there.
yea but they aren't going to remaster MGS1 so why would it really matter other than giving new people the whole story (a story that most people can't follow any way)... would've been cool had they remastered Twin Snakes though.
I'm surprised you didn't cover it.
cant wait for a second part of the hd remasters from game sack keep up the good work guys
We need HD remasters of Onimusha 1, 2, and 3.
I would love that those games are great. But I read that since those games used likeness of actual actors they would have to pay royalties to them again or some legal stuff like that. That's why we dont see them.
Why capcom doesnt just make a new game is beyond me but Crapcom seems stuck in Resident Evil and Street Fighter only
nohomers100 o.o
I agree. The Onimusha series is like Capcom's forgotten stepchild. They should include the Xbox exclusive Gemma Onimusha along with it.
IMDLEGEND :D
Unless you're a game collector, HD remasters are usually the way to go because normally you get more than one game, and enhanced graphics while keeping the gameplay intact. Other HD remasters worth noting are Ratchet & Clank Trilogy, Jak & Daxter Trilogy, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Hitman Trilogy...
When you're going to bed but this pops up
MLGoose Games Exactly how I felt. "Oh its getting late, time to shut down the games... Nevermind, Game Sack"
Hello guys! Amazing show! I have couple of hd games from different times:
1. Killzone 1 for ps3 (came in trilogy, quite good in fact)
2. Half Life 2 in Orange Box package for ps3
3. Doom 3 BFG edition (I saw vetter graphical mods over pc, but as for ps3 it looks cool)
4. Zombi for ps4 (it's way better looking game version than nintendo wii u)
5. Metro Redux for ps4. (Both included games in HD and also first one has added second part weapon upgrade system, so cool)
6. The Serious Sam Collection for xbox 360 (both old versions were remade in glorious hd, with proper new texture, lighting and physics engines. Though they left old sound and audio, but in general it's one of the best hd collection's that I have)
Thank you for your show!
the silent hill hd remaster it's a mess
they barely fixed the ps3 version, and the patch that fixes some things breaks other things.
i think you mistaken with Zone of the Enders HD Collection,...since yes, patches are only applies on PS3 ver, while xbox 360 ver just leave it to rot
What about the Metal Gear Solid Collection on ps3. MGS3 alone looks really good.
Daniel Lado that's pretty much the right way to do hd remasters. The ps vita mgs hd was also great for a handheld title.
it's interesting watching this years later after it has been remastered again and looks even more impressive!
"Devil May Cry 3...which was the THIRD game if you can believe that." lol do you guys like fucking with us?
Maybe...
Sometimes the numbered games don't match their number. Like Assassin's Creed 3. It's the 5th one. Or the confusing FF numbering on SNES lol
The 3D in the Shadow of The Colossus is fantastic!
SEGA!!
CAPCOM!!!
CHEESEBURGERS
Best videogame theme channel hands down!
If your kids wont do their chores then threaten them with Greendog.
that sounds like slang lol
I wont ask what for lol
Homewold Remastered Collection is a compilation of the original Homeworld and Homeworld 2 for PC. Both games are redone in updated Homeworld 2 engine, which makes first game look really good.
My favourites on my PS3 & PS4 are:- Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4 remasters. I also like both God Of War Collections from the PS2 & PSP. I'm looking forward to the Resident Evil 2 Remaster and I may also pick up the Batman Arkham games Remaster and the Nathan Drake collection.
2namtaB *Resident Evil 2 Remake
RE2 Remaster will be the Game of the Year, maybe the game of the 2 years next when it comes out.
JUST CANT WAIT!
Cool that the HD Remasters of Silent hill 2& 3 were covered here; it's the only remastered covered here that I own, but I haven't played much of it. I will play the games someday though, and hopefully I'll adjust to the tank controls.
Wait where is Zelda wind waker HD re release? That game made wind waker amazing
Legend Of A Gamer odd that Dave didn't bring that one up. Well maybe there will be a part 2.
Tom Hill
WWHD's gameplay alterations do make it more enjoyable, but it definitely was not "complete remade". It almost looks like an amateur enhanced graphics patch that you'd play in Dolphin.
The thing I love about the RE4 HD port is the fact you can see all the items floating slightly above the ground or treasure chest.
Silent Hill HD collection is one of the worst HD collections, do yourself a favor and throw it in the trash.
Yeah it is, but not their fault.
It's actually pretty darn great... once you download the giant patch for it. They even give you the option to turn off the tank controls!
That is good. I mean, tank controls make for a scarier experience but they can be so irritating.
noisyturtle The orginal versions already had that option.
Sad to see you had to play the Silent Hill HD games, even if you were fine with them they're a complete disgrace
why?
Check Digital Foundry`s you tube channel and find out
***** i just wanted a short answer. i'm not checking other channels out.
***** Thanks, dude
thank you and your team for making my days awesome with your videos.....I hope you two keep this up until we get dementia episodes!!! tee hee
No DOOM 3 BFG Edition?
Its not that big a step up from the original.
Leave Doom 3 BFG Edition out of this.
BFG Edition was just polishing the engine for better visuals (which reminds me of the Wolfenstein reboot in quality) and the flashlight change which makes the game less challenging. All too subtle in exchange for substantially higher PC requirements.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is my favorite remaster. That's the game that convinced me to buy my first HD TV.
Super Mario All-Stars, non hd but pretty cool
right
I hate remasters, but I love Game Sack... guess I'll watch.
"I feel that the second one improves on the first" Honestly you may be the only people who think that one regarding Devil May Cry.
Jamesbuc It seems they aren't familiar with the series, and the lack of research shows, which makes me wonder why they'd cover it when they don't know shit about it.
I thought the Silent Hill HD Collection was false advertising.
Kinda like if a company said
you'll get the original Star Wars films remastered,
but they gave you Newer version of the Star Wars Special Edition
with new voice overs that doesn't line up with the subtitles.
Heck the title "Silent Hill HD Collection" is false advertising.
silent hill HD is broken,I still perfer the ps2 version.
Apollo Yao silent Hill 2/3 ps2 versions with component cables look fine to me.
the PS2 version is the best looking version aside from resolution. there is an entire DF retro episode on it.
Yes really. Will you be OK?
DiscordedHaru the fact that dmc2 sucks balls doesn't seem to matter.
Quadramic sound was a rare type for sure but it was around before 5.1 even existed so was a major part in the evolution for surround sound.
Dashner100 3D is dead. Long live 4K.
Tb0n3 is there such thing as 3D 4K???
Tom Hill
In my opinion VR will remain niché at best.
You guys rock! Bring back the sweet ass
explosion sounds when turning on a system!
Wait a second, what? "DMC2 improves on the formula of the first one"? What the fuck is this?
Unco Lober Yeah, does not compute. DMC2 is considered the worst DMC by fans yet they think it's better than the original. Whut.
Rowan Ponnampalam opinions am i rite
Uninformed opinions are useless. Stop trying to justify lazy research.
Rowan Ponnampalam uninformed or uniformed? ;)
shadoom
DMC is a genre-defining game by one of the most venerated directors.
Just loved the episode! Great work, guys!
Wait DMC 2 improves on DMC1. Are you high? Did you hit your head? DMC2 is awful
You can tell by Joe's gameplay that he's a Novice to the series. He also praised the Silent Hill HD Garbage Collection, so yeah, it's not his specialty.
Tekken Tag Tournament 1 was also re-released in HD format.
You kinda fucked up on the Silent Hill HD Collection but regardless it was interesting to see some differences in the other game collections.
even tho it's not a videogame but a pachinko game, watching the MGS3 remastered cutscenes made me cry.
Unless you want to.
.. throw your money on a garbage bin. But hey, who is anyone to say nay? :)
oh yeah, I forgot the point where original developers once saw screenshots of the released version were asking "This is really the released version? Really?" on Twitter, and lamenting the HD version's state and it's impact on their story.
Thank you game sack for another great episode
Silent Hill HD is terrible and missing effects and textures, its the worst HD master
THe VO was due to them not wanting to pay the actors
The Silver Case got an HD remaster this october. Its kind of a big deal as it was a visual novel with over 16 hours of text so nobody everr believed a fan or official translation would ever exist.
Whaaat?!
No Remaster of the original Cybernator for the SNES? (Valken Assault Suits on PS2)
DISLIKED/UNSUBSCRIBED!!!!!!
nah just kidding, even though i liked the Remaster of the game since it added the censored cutscenes and faces in. Also it was a lot harder in the first stages and got then easier... weird. ( well the music sucked very hard, not even an explosion sound when your mech explodes!? )
The remake of Valken for PS2 really did suck. It's the textbook example of how not to do a remaster.
Please make a part 2! This episode of Game Sack was awsome
