    Hi MJ really nice pond, it looks quite natural :) I saw some tips on other videos that I would like to share (people has already share some) :
    - it might be good the drill a hole on the side below the edge of the bucket and place a mesh behind it to avoid overflow if it's rainning a lot
    - place a branch coming out of the pond if for example a mouse wants to drink from the pond and falls inside of it then it can get out by using the branch
    Cheers.

    Hi MJ, nice project. Normally myriophyllum must be 10~30cm below the water surface. They are oxygenating plants, and they can survive winter. Mine were stuck into 3cm thick ice layer without problem. For the water lily, that tiny pot is too small. The rhizome will explode it. And the pellets provided are clay. You have to mix it with soil.
    Cheers.

    Nice what a transformation you made with your outside( balcony). I bet you have a million guppy’s now , as mentioned by someone else you have to make an overflow, a small hole on the back with a little piece of hose which waters the grass plant outside the pond so you can top of the pond with some fresh water now and than and the overflow waters the grass behind .

    A tip for future ponds:
    You do not use any nutrients in ponds, at all.
    That includes no aquasoils, and the plants you buy must be rinsed with water so that the soil separates from the roots.

  • @lindapeppin2441
    @lindapeppin2441 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I’ve had a Pygmy lily in a pot pond for around five years and it’s doing great, flowering every year. You will need to lower the plant in the water as the stems grow, eventually planting it in the substrate. The lily pads need to be at the surface and the flowers will poke just above. It will look great once it’s grown in.

    Great video. You could have done away with the aquasoil, gravel and floss by just using pre-soaked LECA (light expanded clay aggregate) . All my houseplants I have put in my aquariums (e.g. peace lilies, pothos, anthurium) are in hydroponic pots which are smaller versions of the large tub you are using. The plant roots will then grow through the basket and get their nutrients from the water column. Layering the top with insect screening would allow you to top it all with moss glued to the screen maybe?

    Hello MJ, I Just fell in love with freshwater fishtanks and bought a 125 gallon. I’ve been really enjoying your serene aquascaping videos. I want to try to propagate a miss carpet using your hand blender and painting method. I would be incredibly grateful if you could give me your opinion on how much actual moss I will need for such a large space? The tank is 6 feet by 18”, and I am planning on hardscaping with a large driftwood “tree stump”, a driftwood arch, and dragon stone formations. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise! You are incredible.

    I like all your videos, nice production, btw. But in case of the pond I may have some suggestions. I used to do such things, I absolutelly love mosaic plant floating, but ... what I don't like it is smell. After some number of days water will smell... and algae... ugh! And yes, 3 dead animals floating, good I notice early enough...
    Long story short, without some surface protection, proper aquasoil depth and forced filtration I will not do it anymore. But video was nice! All those changes you made on you balcony are nice! Please, show as development after few weeks. Is outside temperature hot?

  • @PaulZyCZ
    @PaulZyCZ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've considered making something similar on my balcony (hang-on type), but don't dare because of weight. It's probably in my head, even with all the herbs and tomato plants it shouldn't get close to 100 kg/m^2 (the norm). Second issue is the heat during summer, which might be actual blocker if I decide to go for it.
    Often aquarium fish thrive in summer ponds. If I had a garden, I'd dig a pond to keep swordtails in there for 4 - 6 months every year, even if that meant another aquarium during winter time. They are said to grow big in ponds and their colours... White Cloud Mountain Minnows or Paradise Fish could be even better option for outside pond as they come from colder areas.
