    The last time I saw this done was in the 1960s or early 1970s. There was an extra step after developing the picture, which involved wiping a kind of stabilizing fluid over the positive print. The fluid came in a dispenser stick with a little piece of foam sponge. Pet cats were a popular subject, I seem to remember. The whole process was very exciting and magical.

      Yes, some peel apart films used stabilizer - like Polaroid Roll Film used in the Polaroid 95 and Polaroid 150 series cameras. It was a truly revolutionary process. Thank you for sharing!

    Fuji is completely missing the boat discontinuing their FP-100C and 3000 film. More and more people are getting into film photography every day

    • @TheScienceofPhotography
      @TheScienceofPhotography  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree. Fuji doesn't see many of their films as profitable and keeps discontinuing films. Some of their best films are gone. I have to believe that there would still be some demand even if they raised prices.

      James Lane hope they can eventually get new chemistry pods from somewhere... seems Polaroid Originals could be the supplier for Supersense with their 8x10 pods... if these groups could ever learn to work together for the instant film community.

    Hey, great shot. There is a lot of negative space where there is black - Is this because of the size for the Polaroid Back?

    • @TheScienceofPhotography
      @TheScienceofPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Hasselblad is 6x6 format so that is how big the image will be (technically 56mm x 56mm). The film size is much larger so all the black space is unused (unexposed). With a different camera and Polaroid back you can use more of the space (for example a Polaroid back for a 6x7 camera. There is also a back that adapts to a 4x5 negative film holder and that would cover the entire frame.

    Thanks for a great video =you take me back to the 80's and my beloved Polaroid EE 100 -I loved that camera and I still got it
    When I first got it ,it had a lot of light leaks, tore off the paper bellows and rebuilt it with the vinyl bellows from a model 100

    Thank you for your video on Fuji FP-100C Peel Apart film.
    I have shoot five packs of the color with my Polaroid Land 340. One thing too remember is if you are shooting outside and it’s breezy, any dust will stick to the surface. The dust will ruin the great high gloss surface after it dries.
    To me the colors are like Kodak 160 portra.

    Love the video! I'm still shooting packfilm - I've recently stocked on FP-3000B, so some of my next projects will be shot with those or FP-100C that I have in fridge. I've shot test photos made with Mamiya APO-Sekor Z 500mm f/6 lens on FP-100C, turned out pretty well. For "full frame" I'm using a Polaroid 600SE and I'm thinking about getting the 75mm lens for it, a warming filter (like Tiffen 812) and shoot landscapes. FP-100C and Silk options are rather colder white balanced, so that should compensate nicely.

    Great video! I believe household bleach removes the black layer from the negative, I have never tried it of course but I have seen a few videos. I have a RB67, maybe I should scout of a Polaroid back and try this film, it's not easy at all to find here in Canada. Too bad pack film will most likely never be made again.

    • @TheScienceofPhotography
      @TheScienceofPhotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I have heard about the bleach as well. I still have a ton of the negatives saved, just haven't made the time to test it out yet. It is a shame, but I'd encourage everyone to try a pack or two if they can find a camera or adapted back for a reasonable price.

    I happen to get my hands on a few boxes of 4x5 peel apart Polaroid film that expired in 1999, however, the packet of the emulsion has dried up even though it was kept in a fridge. does anyone know of any way I could develop this film? I think it would be a lot of fun to push through my view camera. thanks for any feedback!

    what temperature (in Kelvin) does your soft box lightbox bulb have? Had experimented before but always have had some light blueish tint (guess whitebalance was off despite using bulbs close to the K listed on film box) with artificial lighting ....

    • @TheScienceofPhotography
      @TheScienceofPhotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Profoto studio strobe is balanced to daylight 5600K +/-30K according to the specifications. I was using some very old FP-100B film for the test. Since it's black and white there shouldn't be any color cast, but I did notice a reduction in contrast. I didn't feel the base paper was any warmer or cooler than normal, just a little flat.
      Color casts may also be caused by over/under exposure or over/under development. Also, any film stock that is expired or exposed but not developed in a timely manner can also cause shifts.
      Most strobes are designed to imitate sunlight, however, the consistency from shot to shot depends on the quality of the flash used.
