I recently had an acl tear which is not letting me to play because of knee instability . My range of motion has increased i can jog , ride bicycles and swelling has been obliterated but recently i got the same experience as it was in my initial injury , my knee bended and pain lasted for a day. I wanted to know when will i be able to return to the court with my full potential
Hey, thanks for sharing your journey and reaching out. We suggest you see a sport physician/orthopedic specialist to get properly evaluated, and if you're a candidate for surgery with your instability feeling. It is very much possible to return to sport at a highly competitive level, we have seen many of our clients return to basketball following ACL-Reconstruction.
By research, unfortunately when a person has a traumatic injury that leads to an ACL injury, that person is at the same amount of risk of developing early arthritis regardless of having ACL-Reconstruction. With that being said, that research was a few years ago and research will continue to change, and you can still have a highly functional knee and high quality of life with proper rehab
Hey man I recently tore my ACL and I do plan to have surgery done but after watching your video. Is there any prolonged risk of not getting surgical repair? I'm fairly active and I usually play basketball 4-6 times per week and I'm not sure bypassing surgery would get me back to that. I have been doing great with daily activity but there is weakness in the injured knee and I don't wanna overcompensate and tear up my other knee. Any advice for me going forward?
There are some potential risk, such as meniscus tear, MCL sprain, cartilage pathology. We recommend scheduling a free 10 minute discovery call with us (calendly.com/thebasketballdoctors/discovery-call) to allow us to get a better idea of what's going on with your specific situation and if there is any way we can help.

how likely is it to return to sports (soccer) sooner than 6 months i tore my acl graft and now do a non surgical approach and it i advance so quickly in my rehab currently
Hi, good question. It is possible to return to sports sooner going a non-surgical route than surgical, but without surgery, there is an increased risk of other knee injuries (meniscus tear, ligament sprains, etc.) due to decreased stability at the knee.

So regardless if you have surgery or not the outcome will be the same statistically? In terms of arthritis 😢
