Man, you always dropping banger after banger. Idk what tf the algorithm is doing but you clearly deserve so much much more than what it's giving you. I hope one day your channel massively blows up and all these videos get the attention they truly deserve
As a kid who got the xbox 360 day one, the Xbox Live Arcade was a gold mine of classic games and new experiences I would have never been exposed to. I am so glad Xbox helped invigorate my love for video games at an impressionable age. And every game had demos to try out so as a broke kid I could always try a game for free before mowing lawns to make money for a purchase.
Cloning Clyde, Splosion Man, and Castle Crashers were some of my favorite games from the 360. I think they're singlehandedly the reason I enjoy indie games.
I have some really good memories of playing stuff like Doritos Crash Course, Castle Crashers, 1 vs 100, and random demos with my friends growing up. I specifically remember there was a multiplayer demo for Lost Planet 2 and this game called Section 8 that we would play all the time.
I used to play Doritos Crash Course with my friends and I’d get pretty loud and excited when I played. So we had this guy over at our house fixing our windows while I was downstairs playing and after awhile I came up and my sisters told me that all they heard was weird laughter and yelling from downstairs and it weirded everyone out. But I tell them play the game and you’ll understand!
Dang, I remember the beta for Section 8, what a crazy time that was, then the beta ended and I never saw the game again until maybe 4 years ago where I randomly bought it and after a couple hours went "wait, is this that game I played the multiplayer beta for way back when?" and I found the game wasn't all that fun to me, at least single player wise, now.
Since you didn't really talk about it, its worth noting that Trials Evolution had, for a while, in my opinion, one of the most robust level editors available. Sure, you could make some pretty crazy BMX tracks with it, but I saw some absolutely baffling things, horror levels, puzzle levels, hell, there was even a first-person-shooter map that absolutely blew my mind back in the day. There's also that ARG the developers did(and I guess are doing, since there's still decades to go on solving it😂)
GASP! No mention of Dishwasher Dead Samurai? That game was so much fun. Amazing art, fantastic music, and very unique art style to complement its grim but also vaguely wacky setting. A true "must play" And the sequel is on Steam.
i loved those games. The makers of those games have also made some kind of shoot/beat em up rock game and another game called salt & sanctuary which is kind of like Dishwasher but dark souls
I played the first Dishwasher a couple years ago. Ska Studios is such a great indie studio. Salt and Sanctuary is so good as well! Still need to get to The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile, and Charlie Murder.
14:28 - *Marble It Up* This Game is pretty much the Sequel to Marble Blast Ultra, and I assume the entirety of Marble Blast has been remade within the Steam Workshop.
I distinctly remember my friend and I going at it, day after day, to see who could have the best times in Marble Blast Ultra. It was amazing. There were even times when we hadn't played the game for years and one of us would get on when the other wasn't. Upon seeing one of us recently played MBU, it would prompt the other to get on immediately, brush up on the game and get to work, trying to discover long lost tricks. Amazing times. Also, who remembers 1 vs. 100, with the legend himself, Chris Cashman? Absolutely epic. Looking back on it now, paying $35/year (I used to buy 4000 MS Point cards for that price) to keep XBL Gold was a scam, but, damn, do I miss it. The vast majority of my friends went their separate ways after the 360 died. Some of them moved on to the next Xbox or Sony console, some moved to PC. I moved to PC myself, but I rarely keep in touch with anyone these days. It's just not the same.
I have similar memories from the 360 days. It was truly the peak of gaming with all the Arcade games and the big AAA stuff like Halo 3 multi & custom games and just fking around with online and real life friends. After about 2011 though, it was kind of, I guess not as novel and the same? and people seemed to start moving on. It's also, coincidentally, I think around the same time smart phones and mobile gaming started growing.
As the former record holder of some marble blast ultra levels back in the day, I can confirm that it's the greatest game of all time. We have the same favorite level (black diamond), but there's one big difference between us: Idk if I ever consciously realized there was only one song. But yeah, I was pretty good. I even beat the game before it came out, ik pretty impressive. No, I didn't get it early due to having connections. I was just really freaking good.
this is such a cool insight. i never owned an xbox and i didn't know what i was missing. now i know what i was missing but you showed it in a way that i could be satisfied even though i will never play these games. thankyou renn.
Xbla was my younger self's introduction to indie games. I lost so many hours to techno kitten adventures, I made a game with zombies in it, splosion man, n++... MAN, take me back.
Genuinely the funniest and most creative game reviewer on TH-cam. There’s always a good pun, word play, or joke that gives me a good chuckle or tickles my brain every minute! Not to mention the well informed, well thought out, and educational content. Keep doing what you’re doing! You deserve so much more from the algorithm!!! 💋
me and all my friends would try speedrun and beat each others scores. crazy how more fun and time i got out of that game versus, halo 4, 5 , infinite. Thanks for shining a light on xbox live arcade, i miss 2009.
One my relatively obscure XBLA gaming experience was Outpost Kaloki X, a space station management game. I fear if I played it now it'd be very underwhelming. 'Splosion Man was by far my fave of the indie platformers from that time.
Note that there is also a replacement for marble blast ultra and its marble it up ! and if you own only a xbox 360 there is switchball , which as far as i know , its just a striped down version of marble blast
The escape game in geometry wars was the best. My frat bros used to watch me play because I was so good at it. Not sure they had it in 2 - you didn’t have a gun, could only cross through bars that exploded.
Yo, the algo is messed up Renny-poo. I'll admit I don't hit the bell, but I just recently re-watched some of you most recent vids, and interacted with your last community post, and this video was still not on my homepage until 17 hrs after upload. I'm no algo whisperer, but it might be worth going through your uploads and adding an "identity tag" either in the titles or thumbnails or both, that is consistent across all your videos. For example, for the titles you could do, "*video title* /// Renn's Reviews". With the thumbnails, a banner across the bottom or top that is always the same color and has "Renn's Reviews" on it, or even a corner of the thumbnail that has that consistent color with your channel pfp. I don't know bro, I just enjoy your vids and want to see you do well, love ya big boy god bless.
Xbox Live Arcade was so unique and so damn good! So many amazing games came out for it. I used to get so excited for Summer of Arcade. Throughout all of August, they’d just release new games every week like Limbo, Bionic Commando Rearmed (which is really good, everyone should go play it), Monday Night Combat (ya’ll remember that?) and my favorite was Hydro Thunder Hurricane. You just can’t get any better than that. And when Banjo Kazooie came out, I ran home from school and downloaded it as fast as I could. My friends and I would obsess over it. And they brought back the mysterious stop and swap which re-emerged discussions and conspiracy theories. It was like following a cold case. I miss how fresh XBLA was. All those games had such a unique charm to them. It was like the beginning of the indie scene, Something we’ve never seen before and it was fun! All these young developers striking out for the first time and bringing cool new ideas and characters to the mix and to be there from the beginning feels special. Thanks for another great video, Renn! I hope you’re feeling a bit better today.
I loved XBLA on the 360. Marble Blast Ultra was probably my favorite game there. I wish I could play the multiplayer on Xbox Live now. Bomberman Live was great! Also a multiplayer game I wanna play on XBL now. XBLA was so much better than all the random games being released nowadays.
No one ever mentions it when they talk about this, so I feel like I may be tripping, but didn't Bastion blow up because of this too? The same developer that went on to win game of the year with Hades
I hope, that you get some clarity & understanding, to your depression & difficult thoughs and feelings (somehow, I recalling seeing a youtube community post about this, that can't seem to find now).
I had loads of Xbox live arcade games. My favourite was Bankshot Billiards 2. I was the world's #3 player on TrueSkill rank but the two players above me weren't active which meant I couldn't play them and thus go above them. I have a video of me playing BB2 on my channel. Then Microsoft revealed the XBOX ONE and I saw the writing on the wall for gaming. In a fit of pique I traded in my Xbox 360 and all my games for a PS3 and The Last of Us. A few weeks after Rockstar released GTA 5 my love of gaming left me and I quit the hobby. Never bought a new console or video game since.. Recently I took an interest in the gaming culture again and channels like your own express perfectly the writing I saw on the wall all those years ago.

The algorithm is straight up buttf%^*
@@Peapodzilla i did not get recommended this video, I had to search renn (with two n's) into the search bar to get this gem

"It's a series of mini games that provide you with a mental challenge. Lucky for me, I LOVE being mentally challenged"
I'm dead
This doesn’t get enough credit as the program that paved the way for the Indie scene to become what it is today.
With a cyberpunk icon you Don't get a say lmao 🤣
Do you ever regret your picture and username being cyberpunk?
Cloning Clyde, Splosion Man, and Castle Crashers were some of my favorite games from the 360. I think they're singlehandedly the reason I enjoy indie games.
I just got top of the leaderboards on cloning clyde. I'll be missing the store, but I'm not moving on from the 360
I miss the 7th gen so much.
I had no money for these thing as a kid, but I played a bunch of demos over and over, like Limbo and Split/Second.
Nostalgia overload. I had many of these games.. what a time to be a young man

N+, Trials HD, Marble Blast Ultra, and Castle Crashers(the character unlock grind was unreal) we're all consuming in my youth.
N+ is a bop! Better than N++ imo
