    I've been following your vlog while you traveled around the world and it looks like you had an amazing trip. Oh yeah, I knew you were a cool dude especially after watching the drone footage flying over the cement ship in Aptos. I spent a lot of summers on that beach. My Grand parents lived at 410 Bennett Rd cross of Moosehead Dr next to the creek. Your lucky man to live in such a cool area and to have had the chance to travel the word. AWESOME!!

    I live in South Africa... and I like what you said: " be patient" "behave", "and show respect". Don't pay bribes as a tourist. EVER!
    Some officials ( particularly traffic police....) will try get you people to pay. Be patient and respectful and eventually they get bored when they see you paying the bribe and then will let you go as you wasting their time and they will move on to try the next sucker.....

    Hi William,
    Can you please do a quick review on your tank bag, from your videos it looks like it is a nice large size with a full weatherproof clear plastic viewing pocket for larger maps etc.
    I live in Perth Western Australia and ride a Honda Varadero 1000 which has a large 25lt tank and I am struggling to find a nice large bag to suit accordingly.
    Thanks.

    The CDP is a document for customs, to prevent you from selling your vehicle without paying import duties add/or taxes.
    In order to obtain one, you must pay a percentage of the value(don`t know current percentage) into an escrow account that is held for up to two months after your return. That is to ensure that no claims are made against you or the issuer of the Carnet. In Europe it was my Automible club that issued it. I don`t know who the issuer is here in the states. You might not need one for your destination. If the country you are entering requires one then you are out of luck as I don`t think that there is a way around it. If you loose the document before you get home then you loose all your money deposited also. Cheers.

    Thanks, William, for that clear explanation of using the Carnet de Passage....coming soon in the US...a 3rd payment and security option that doesn't require a deposit. Eligibility for that option will be based on a credit report. This should greatly reduce the CPD costs for motorcycle riders especially. Also, there will soon be an online application process to make it easier to apply and upload docs etc. Hopefully this will make the CPD more accessible for adventurers such as yourself to take their bikes overseas. We are looking to announce the new pricing within the next 30 days and the eCPD in 90 days. Safe travels to all of you!

    The procedure of getting CDP document is quite easy, but the required deposit for our bike is not small.
    Sometimes I travel with my 4x4 too. Deposit costs me then 60% of the vehicle value so be careful guys.

I am planning a world wide tour on a 2020 Africa Twin Adventure Sport but am planning on purchasing it in Australia. I have a friend who is willing to register it in his name. Thanks for the good information. One question: I understand that you are using your US registration/title to prove you own the bike and import it, but what allows you to ride on the public roads of another country (not really an Immigration or Customs issue, so I had assumed they could not sort that at a crossing)? Do you get a temporary licence plate in each country that you just bolt on top of your US plate? I assume that the local authorities would want some way for local cops to be able to run your plates.

    • @WilliamGloege
      @WilliamGloege  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason Lemann nope. I use my plate my registration. I think in Egypt they give you a temp plate, but that country is one of the most difficult.

    • @jasonlemann6569
      @jasonlemann6569 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, thanks. Really enjoyed your videos. If your travels ever take you to Tokyo, feel free to look me up...you probably won't be riding your bike here (importing into Japan is a nightmare), but you can rent quality bikes and the riding is some of the best I've experienced anywhere. Good luck with whatever you get up to next.

    • @WilliamGloege

      There are embargos between Iran and the US. US companies cant sell it to you. You can buy one in Europe that will work. I made a large payment at the border which I had prearranged. I can help you with that if you need.
