    Been a photographer for a very long time,(36 years!) and have done many various types subjects. But one subject that has always fascinated me is the macro world and i have been successful. Now watching what you do Stewart is a breath of fresh air and enjoy your your no fancy frills etc. With this review on the Godox twin lights i have indeed bought a kit but already own the trigger so that was a bonus I suppose but with watching your other video on these twin lights and having only tried them out a few times they really do need to be diffused, so that's what i will be doing! Thanks' fella for encouraging me to start macro shooting once again.

    Cool video! Perhaps it is good to add that in fact the GODOX system is a bit more universally oriented. In the sense that it is not just a macro system, although it fully meets the requirements for macro photography. In general, I take boudoir photography, but I use a goddox system. This trigger + two more are part of the "X system" family, which unites all new Godox products. And this trigger can control not only MF12 but their entire range of flashes, except for the oldest. I use several compact flashes from this family and two AD600MB which by the way have unique batteries and last surprisingly long. Personally, I see an application of MF12 in my field of photography and maybe it will be the next thing I will buy soon. Thanks for the comprehensive video again.

    If your camera is equipped with a pop up flash you can use the Godox system in its optical mode using the pop up as a trigger, so the XPro trigger is not an absolute requirement.

    Thanks Stewart. You've just solved two conundrums for me. I have both godox and yongnuo flashes/triggers and was unsure which way to go. I was almost waiting for something new from yongnuo as my godox flashes had been inconsistent. I never realised that there was a firmware issue with the eosr, so I checked and wallah! I needed to upgrade the firmware on the godoxs which I've done (though that isn't easy as the current godox software drivers aren't digitally signed correctly and Windows 10 won't connect to the flashes (there is a simple workaround though). So it looks like I'll be ordering the godox twin flash once I can figure out how to get it past my wife. Thanks again

    You can also use Godox XT2 Trigger ... not only X-Pro ... Just saying.
    I do have (of course) bought Godox, since it's newer and fit my FujiFilm XT-3 :)

    They are not a clone of the MT 24EX (released 2011)
    The original is the Nikon R1C1 (released in 2008)...

    I just purchased the Yongnuo YN24EX with the backup 12-battery pack to use with my Canon EOS R and various lens combinations giving up to 10X macro. My intention is to use this system primarily for focus bracketing, and rapid recycling is not an issue. My concern is potential flash misfiring, leaving gaps in focus stacks. If your YN24EX is a number of years old, did you obtain it before your Canon EOS R, and if so, could it be possible that your YN24EX version is missing something in firmware related to the R-series of Canon cameras? Would I expect the firmware in a YN24EX version purchased in April 2022 to be the same as in a version purchased in 2017, or possibly updated to address identified performance issues related to the evolving R-series of Canon cameras?

    • @GeneLeeRollins
      @GeneLeeRollins 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Roger... did you end up getting and using the YN24EX with your EOS R ? If so, how has it worked out? Recently, I had been looking at this Yongnuo macro flash for awhile and finally decided to purchase. Watching this video, was the first time I heard a mention of problems with the EOS R system cameras. B&H states "retains TTL functionality when used on Canon EOS R-series cameras" and the features list "supports Canon E-TTL / E-TTL II". So... now I'm a bit worried I messed up and should have went with the Godox. I do have older 7D and 7D MkII bodies that I could use, but of course I wanted to use my most recent and full frame EOS R.

    Sorry, I will have to disagree. The Godox is superior in every way and worth the extra price. I already have a flash controller and you can even buy the cheaper one. I was considering the Godox because I already had the transmitter but another you tube guy makes some very good points. He said the dual light setup is harsh and unflattering. He also said, most people already have a more powerful flash, use that with a diffuser say a crafty bells it will have much better lighting. The dual like system is difficult to diffuse and when you do use a diffuser especially a big one like the crafty bells, it reduces light output considerably. But if you have to have a system, the Godox is more expandable. I would bet money it is more powerful, the ability to do updates so they can fix problems and comparability issues. It is the future, the other is the past.
