- Asmongold watches a video by Bellular, who discusses about the absolute state of Shadowlands Patch 9.1, which main feature (The Shards of Domination System) is beyond convoluted and difficult to understand, even for people that play WoW every day. This is especially frustrating when this system will be most likely scraped when Patch 9.2 will be released, since it has been confirmed sets will return with this iteration of Shadowlands. Blizzard really needed a win after the absolute resurgence of FFXIV but this certainly doesn't seem like it...

I love how the company that removed pvp vendors for being too confusing or armor pen/expertise for being too complicated in the past but then implements the weirdest most convoluted systems for no reason.

Blizz be like "we added a system, so you can grind a system while you grind another system. And prepare to scrap the system after the release of the next system"
And you know what it looks like? It looks like every other popular eastern MMORPG, where you have upgrades for scrolls which you need to upgrade the stones which you need to upgrade you gear stats but only after you farm the materials to upgrade your gear level which will open access to some secondary or tretiary progression system with ascension levels or some other shit. Oh, and you must do the same grinding and shit for your mount/combat pet which have their own upgradable gear too.
It almost like Blizz is pitching the game to Korean and Chinese markets =)

No ones really addicted anymore tho lol. For months and months you can’t even find a fuckin arena partner in LFG. People come back for a few months and boom it’s dead again. This game was easily the best game of all time for like 10 straight years. No other game gives you the same feeling. So we keep having hope they fix it. Because there’s no other MMO that even comes close.
You don't fully see how shitty this game is until you quit playing it. After you successfully fill the time void with something else and look at WoW you finally see what a PoS it really is.

@@daethmer7834 Yeh I moved back to ESO, I only needed to have eso plus for 3ish months until my crafter was fully upgraded and took off eso plus and now I dont have to pay for anything else until I want to go into a particular dlc when it's on discount. Having player agency once again is great man.

Mistake is a typo in a item description. Those systems and changes are made by a group of people and their idea has to get approved. This amount if incompetence is not a failure of individual, but failure of a Blizzard as a whole. Get real. The brains behind good systems and creative people are long gone. Only interns working for a spit in a mouth and marketing people remained at Blizzard.
Friendly reminder that marketing department was not even able to predict Immortal fiasco. So much for studying the target audience for a HUGE event. And yes, marketing does that, deepens understanding of audience to help with event planning. But apparently those guys only draw pictures. LMAO

Our mother company was bought two years ago by a big conglomerate, so we became part of the conglomerate too and everything is going downhill. They just don't care or listen to reason.

The true culprits are called monetization designers, they are the ones squeezing every design in every way to make players pay more or keep logging in to do chores. It is clear that Blizzard got blinded by statistics and numbers 10 years ago and now monetization designers have too much influence on the games.
@@sope3280 That's why game industry needs mid-sized studios. I love indie games. There are real gems out there, like RimWorld, but those games usually take longer to develop than triple A game.
And I think Blizzard is unable to read their statistics. They were able to lose players during a year of lockdowns. They should start to carry why is that. But I think they will put the minimal effort and resources into WoW and once it stops making enough money, they will just pull the plug.

You do realize that the games decline (statistically) has a colinear relationship with the release of widely disliked patches/expansions. People saying "it's activision" i thought the same thing when Bungie Left them , now i see Bungie charging for transmog and doing a mobile premium model for their game and they have the community to backup , it's not activision it's legit the people who work at these studios
it WAS activasion, when activision and blizzard were still separate. they arent anymore. the blizzard that made good games for gamers is already consumed (like Unicronic Arts), and activision-blizzard is actively grinding their IP's into the ground while complaining that blizzard isnt making enough money.

The issue is simple. The Blizzard that everyone used to love is gone, and gone forever, because the PEOPLE who made it what it was are gone. That's it. It's not mysterious. If you have a sports team that is world champion for five years in a row, but you then change the team's entire coaching staff and replace every player on the team, the team's name might still be the same but it would be very weird to expect the same championship caliber gameplay after all of that, because its a completely different team!
You're both right, in a way, the original bungie staff is long gone, it's full of activision type devs / people.
Same goes for blizzard, barely any of the original crowd is still there, it's a corpse being moved around with wires.

@@Syllaren wjhat you are saying has some truth to it. The point you are missing is that Blizzards fan base is 99% warcraft, .5% diablo and .5% everything else. If they shut down wow they will got bankrupt.
Antivision wants more mobile cashgrabs, and maintaining an mmo is just too hard for them. And financially probably a drain (to them) when gachi crap barely has any maintenance. Wow itself became a Diablo-Mobile mix pretty much considering a lot of newer systems. The age of MMO-s is over, new generations with their nonexistent attention span couldnt care less about them. No care for lore, no patience to grind.
@@Grivehn I’m younger player, started wow when I was 15 2 years ago, can confirm that nobody our age wants to play a grind game that only rewards either temporary progression or low quality pixel. But then again I think that it has nothing to do with the fact that we are younger in the sense that we would be dumber it’s just that we didn’t grow up with the game, I was 5 when bc came up so it’s not even my generation, we have no sentimental attachment to the pile of junky system that is retail. I enjoyed classic, the server I was on was a ton fun, very cool people. But if had to spend money on a game, I’d rather buy a small indie game our a good coop rpg to play with my friend instead of giving money to blizzard and their inability to understand basic game design.

They aren't making mistakes they just know people are addicted to the game and play no matter what because of loyalty to WoW, Time and time again you rip blizzard to pieces weather it's a new expansion or new update and then still play the game hoping for change and get shocked when it doesn't come. Just play a different game and move on the more people quit the more the dev's are inclined to make changes but you still sign in on the day of release still being a shill to blizzard.

Im still baffled by the whole legendary situation. Blizz took forever to finally release more content and now the players are getting the short end of the stick by wasting all that time (that Blizzard created) crafting and upgrading legendaries.
Even if they come back around and make previously upgraded legendaries useable it’s still insane that they were fine with players having wasted all that time.

They fu*k over casuals so hard man. They are literally forcing them to buy tokens to get gold. Then there are classes that have to reroll their covenant because if not they won't be invited to M+ content. I never really had another MMO to compare since i only played WoW but since i started playing FFXIV i realized how terrible the decisions the developers in WoW make are. They don't give a crap for casuals. They don't respect the time you invest into the game. They don't respect the money you invest each month into the game. They don't care if your favorite class is suddenly low tier so nobody invites you anymore. They just screw everyone over and over and over again.
I don't get this but can someone tell me why the legendaries are useless now after a single patch. Aren't they usually gear which last through the expansion and are almost always BiS. I stopped playing after mop.

Guys I must say I have never played WoW or any of the blizzard games and I have zero interest in them but watching videos about it from Asmongold's perspective its like watching abusive relationship unfold in real time. I don't like seeing someone like Asmongold getting abused emotionally by something he loves cause he seems to be really nice person at the same time its so interesting to see how his relationship with WoW develops to the point that even though I don't know a single thing about WoW and I feel genuinely sorry for Asmongold I cant stop watching this unfold.

@@Tentacl 100%, i think it will be very difficult for him to adjust following a rebrand if wow was to shut down, and he would definitely struggle a bit with adapting initially, he is incredibly conditioned to playing wow, possibly even lose some regular viewers (though i really don't know who would watch asmon EXCLUSIVELY for wow). I'd still believe hed make it through though, allcraft for example is amazing (imo), and i actually think that its even more interesting when he doesn't talk about WoW. I mean, i only have one CE achievement and like 70-80% mythic completion of some tiers when its current content, but i actually just... don't find wow talk overly interesting past a certain point. I genuinely enjoy just hearing asmon/rich and their guest talk about things in general, moreso their discussion and views on gaming nowadays, and its a very entertaining discussion they have that provokes a lot of thought.
there's definitely no certainty on where asmon would end up and how well his channel would do if wow were to shut down though, but i think that many people would still find entertainment in him, whatever he decides to do.
I think it's stuff like this that will make Asmongold very amenable to being able to play every job with one character in FFXIV.
At the very least, WoW could crib SWTOR's Legacy system, where all of these rep grinds are shared by every character in a legacy. Not only that, the Legacy unlocks themselves are very handy.

@@nefrath5234 I severely doubt hes just doing this to "farm views", you can tell that this is how they genuinely feel about the game(and how a lot of people genuinely feel about the game). And even a few months ago, when he said he was "enjoying himself" as you said, he was still regularly critiquing the game and talked about how bad covenants feel and why we dont have more freedom to do "x, y or z", its not like he was just outright praising the game...he just said he was enjoying himself on his hunter because he wasnt trying to be optimal or push content. But regardless, how he felt a few months ago has absolutely nothing to do with the present state of the game, 9.1 has finally launched and a whole new system of gearing and content with it, so im not sure how criticizing the additions from 9.1 has absolutely anything to do with him "enjoying himself" months ago.
Also, if they REALLY wanted to farm views, you know what they could do? Do the exact opposite of the popular thing aka "shitting on WoW". Blindly praising every new thing with 9.1 as if the patch is nothing but incredible content and amazing systems would attract way more people because theyd want to see "wait, why the fuck is this guy saying this pile of crap is good?".

I quit the game back in Cata when I felt like it was changing course, and I remember being actually angry at the playerbase for not trying harder to resist some of the changes. Nowadays I'm just sad for the people still playing this game. Whether through sheer incompetence or being completely out of touch, it seems that Blizzard is actively trying to alienate their players

A system that will most likely be useless in 9.2, steps on the toe of another current system(legendaries) and forces the player to make choices they should never be forced to make in the first place.
Would have personally preferred a new BG or even a new pet dungeon over this crap.

@@jonathansoko1085 nah there never was priority queueing, but it's still never an issue because queue times are very short compared to wow. It could be a bot wave ban (yes there are bots in ff14 but the issue is always resolved quickly, their detection systems are really something) or people that log out at that time. Everyone can play in a less amount of time

Why do we need all these systems that just get thrown away after a patch. Just give us loot and justice points.
It wouldnt work in todays WoW, the reason it worked before is that the core gameplay-loop and classes felt so good, so people were happy with just keep going with that just add more of the same content. Nowadays with all the GCD changes and shit, the core gameplay without all the systems would probably feel like you're playing on a trail account on a pre-level 20 account.
@@slonkijippie What does having grindy temporary systems have to do with the upgrade loop being gear and venders? Blizz can bring back interesting set bonus' and trinkets or just give the classes more of a kit. Having a completely different system every patch is bad. Look how BFA ended, you had your base class, azurite gear with procs, essences with abilitys and procs, and corruptions with procs. They keep stacking these systems and by the end of an expansion it is just out of control.
WoW really has the Warframe problem systems over systems that they abandon a few months or patches later
they drop an expansion with a system, in *.1 they add a system to be played with the old system, *.2 they make a new system that invalidates the first system but augments the second system, *.3 they add a new system that invalidates all other systems. next expansion invalidates everything while adding a new system.
Holy shit, you're so right. I'm feeling the same type of burnout for retail right now that I experienced when I finally ended up dropping Warframe for good. Its a total system overload.

For those who haven't see it, a bunch of "idea balls" are thrown into a pool and then ones that the manatees push into a bucket are put together to be the plot in a TV show.
Spot on. Too bad they have only balls with words "Recolor", "Unnecessary", "Complicated", "Unbalance-able" and "System" in the tank.

I'd hoped a simple system, like the "Semi-borrowed Power" variation I have on SoulBreezy's idea, would help---the less complex a system is, the harder it is to screw up its design. ...Except Blizzard is managing screw-ups even with SIMPLE systems! >

The problem is that people who have hated it for almost a decade continue to willingly support a company that fucks them over at every turn. The endless complaint videos are just exhausting. But after the death of Arthas many stopped playing the game. When Darth Vader died in ROTJ many star war fans did not care about other content.... so even if you made it exactly the same... many would still not come back.
We used to have weekly quizzes at work every Friday where someone comes up with a fun little quiz and the people who lose donate some pocket change into our team bank and once there's enough money, we would get some breakfast or bbq together as a team. When it was my turn to think of a quiz, I came up with something so complex and convoluted that nobody even understood the question. I felt pretty dumb afterwards, because it was just completely overengineered and not fun at all. The idea was there and the few people who thought about it a bit longer were surprised how I even came up with it. But bottom line, it was utter shit. So I think I'm a perfect fit for the WoW core design team. Ion, if you read this, I can only work remotely from EU right now, but I'm willing to relocate. Cheers.

Sounds simple enough, until you factor in that most people have no idea what this even is, so I added a Vsauce video with a time stamp where he explains it. And then, of course, you have to specify a format for the tips, so I can then copy paste everything in the library search and can determine who's the closest to the actual location. So I added some template style example for people to follow. Now, mind you, this was for a group of people who expected something like "at what time will the office dog that a nap". It wasn't real quizzes most of the time, just some quick, lighthearted question that doesn't require much or any thinking. So yeah, I was feeling pretty dumb afterwards. But it was among mostly close colleagues so we just laughed it off. Or well, they did..

In Everquest, one of the two final straws for my original raid tank warrior was farming the Rubicite Breastplate (rare drop) for regeneration effect during downtime. Killed his spawn point (rare spawn) every 22 minutes for over 150 times. Never got it. I had massive headaches over my last 2 camping attempts. Massive RNG sucks.

Returned in Legion after I left for good in Wrath - had a great time with my DH and story was good, left after 7.2.
Paid for 1 month of BFA - still regret it. Left in 8.0 and never looked back =) And nothing Blizz showed me about Shadowlands even remotely sparked my interest. Especially since it's rotates around Sylvanas "Queen of Blades" Windrunner-Kerrigan, who is a dumb fucking character with a dumb fucking story ark (after Warcraft 3 I mean) and I do not want to play any role in it even passively =)

Complex it a bad way that makes no sense too. There is nothing wrong with a bit of complexity in an MMO but it needs to make sense. This sort of shit is needlessly complex just to draw out your sub time as long as possible.
Its complex without being fun. Just some arbitrary way to keep players subbed and playing their game or else they’ll be left behind by both the game mechanics and the community.
I just want the server where everyone has every cosmetic unlocked for standart.
So that people can actually focus on playing again.

Back in last summer, I really had high hopes for SL. I thought bliz devs really took notes of their mistakes they did during BFA. Result: I quit the game after 13 years for good. I don't exactly know what happened but something just clicked and the game lost all of its luster suddenly. I wish lots of fun (and patience) for the ones who are still playing WOW. My journey in Azeroth is over.
Blizz always have done it, they always were open to players feedback during beta and then just not listening to it at all, next expansion they will listen to your feedback again and more youtubers will sing praise "wow is saved, they listen to us"...
It the one thing that I miss is tier set but also being able to roll for it because of master loot it gave a sense of excitement something that's is gone when raiding.
I've been having fun playing tbc. But might take time off when d2 remastered comes out and play that some. Cause you can group up with 8 people and talent for characters also doesn't have a subscription.

I have an alt at level 70 in TBC that I have already ran through Kara and gotten some gear with, yet when I look at retail, it looks far more daunting to get an alt geared up and ready to go. Why is it that leveling an alt in TBC and gearing it out, as much longer as leveling takes, seems like less of a chore and more fun? I am also most of the way to unlocking Heroics, If I dedicated the time to it, I could easily finish the heroic unlock grind in a good day and the rest of the T5 attunements this week if I push for it.
I might play 9.2 if there are tier sets, im sure Ill be able to catch up through years worth of content in a week because nothing in WoW has any permanence anymore
kinda sad to see you wait for a single good patch from an entire expansion to have fun, while other games (FFXIV specifically) has a very very good patch with every patch they release .. which is consistent .. every (3 months) there is a major patch ... this happened for the last 8 years in FFXIV :)

This is not how it works. You get 5 pieces of loot that drop with dom sockets. You equip 3 unholy shards for example for the dps buff, the other two kinda do whats best. Thats it. If you make a mistake, pop the shard back out (yes you can do that with a tool) and equip it into another piece of gear or whatever. Its really not a problem.

To be honest. By this time watching people complain for over 3 or 4 years it's just a clinical obsession. I understand trying to care for a game improvement, 6 months, a year, next expansion. But complaining for over 4 years and continue to play regardless it's more of a mental problem now.
I've moved on long ago and don't regret a bit and to be honest, kinda getting bored of watching the same videos over and over again - and I've watched all of them, but it's mostly now non-stop complaining to something you can end at your will and move on to greener pastures.
There's TONs of good games released since WoD.

I feel innovation in class gameplay comes down to, "how does my character interact with 'X' encounter over 'Y' encounter." If my class in 2021 SL feels like a 2004 Frost mage in every encounter, IMO thats a boring class. They need to provide either something drastic to the class toolkit, or something encounter by encounter specific that I can interact with that diverges from my normal gameplay. Here's a thought: ADD VARIOUS WIN-STATES TO BOSS ENCOUNTERS.
We've seen examples of this, the green dragon in ICC, Avatar in ToS in BFA, evrn Sunking in Nathria. But its always been a single win condition. Generally its boss health drops to 0. What if you Could drop boss health to 0 OR you could outlast the enrage long enough Reinforcements arrive, or solve a mid fight puzzle that neutralizes the boss. Wouldnt necessarily be balanced, people will find ways to cheese, ofc. But in a world where Rextroy is Soloing current content Raid encounters, who cares.
At the end of the day, the burden is on the encounter designers to make the encounters challenging enough to justify the rewards and to keep the players engaged.
Don't worry guys, everything will be fixed in 9 months when 9.2 comes out. 👌🏻

"Blizzard don't know what they are doing." < Ofcourse they do, they removed master looter to increase sub times. They add rng and convoluted systems to increase sub time from players. So many WoW content creators are like "How can they not understand how bad these systems are!?!?" < They do, they are intentional, stop expecting something else from them. The reason for Ion's "stubborness" is actually Activison telling him to make time consuming systems, time gates etc. He knows it's shit, he just can't tell you "yes it's shit to keep you paying longer."
Each expansion feels like a different game and now each patch will make you feel like playing a different game

The game for the last 2 expansions has been on a real borrowed-power kick. They give, they take away, and promise something new for you to chase after. Your character is temporarily powerful and then effectively reset. It's happening expack to expack and patch to patch. It's why I had to get out.

Damn, so happy I quit some months into SL, its getting crazier with all the convoluted systems, they should focus on class design, make it easier not more problematic to jump between specs/classes and make them fun to play, eventually bring back set bonuses to sprinkle it up with the gear but even that is not really needed, its sad to watch the direction the game is taking, is like they are sinking the ship on purpose.

Have fun! I've been playing for about 3 years and the game respects your time so much more than WoW by not shackling you to it (well unless you buy a house in-game or join an FC/guild with strict activity requirements). It's super easy to play as much as you want, put it down for a while, and come back later. Every major patch that raises the level cap or ilevel also includes ways for you to catch up if you're behind.
But more than anything, the devs actually give a damn about their player base. The way they saved the game after the disaster that was 1.0 and turned into the much better 2.0 release is proof enough of that all by itself. But on top of that, they actually listen and will get rid of trolls and other toxic dickheads when you report them.
Best thing about this? I played shadowlands for a month and im actually not behind if i wanna jump back in the game. Cause the only gear progression really was legendaries, but people need to recraft most anyway. But I dont wanna jump back in the game 🤷🏻♂️

WoW really has become a "pay & pray" kind of game. Keep that sub going and pray that something changes.
I rather have less systems. So things don't have to be balanced for each system, item etc. Just give me an evolving talent tree and some gear with certain setbonusses.
Less systems means fewer moving pieces and the fewer moving pieces the simpler it is. All of the bloat and new systems just drag down the performance of the entire machine since they're all required for it to operate.

However, I love listening to you talking about things because you come across with some of the deepest knowledge base, common sense, and are just damn good at speaking about something and making me feel like I came away learning from it.

This is why they struggle with content on wow. What a waste of time to create this mess with the intention of removing it. It was a bad sign that they had multiple power systems to kick this xpac off when really they should just be doing one at a time to save everyone a headache. Even the MoP system where you slowly got additional 'legendary' bonuses each patch was better than this clown show.
Developers have a term for this called "Boiling the Ocean" It is a phrase that means undertaking an impossible task or making a task unnecessarily difficult. The phrase is used in business as well as other group settings and is a negative comment on how one conducts business or projects.
Making more systems account wide would be amazing. They’ve dabbled with that in the past, but if only FFXIV would be a kick in the ass for them to get serious about it.
