@@b3ario :D Though the HP don't really matter at this point. The trigger_hurt does 10k demage every half a second. He only gets past it because of the hornet he fires into the trigger just before touching it himself. Since the trigger has a cooldown of half a second, the player can fall through and touch the teleport trigger before getting damage.
Yes, that's usually when you die ^^. Though there are several triggers that overlap. One of them is a trigger_hurt that is supposed to kill you. However that trigger can only apply damage in certain invervals. It's a short interval though. What he does is shooting a hornet from the hornet gun into the trigger just before he touches it. So the trigger kills the hornet and the player doesn't get damage. The trigger_teleport is just located below that. You are teleported into a small level transition chamber (with those flashing green walls) where you wait for the level transition. It's actually luck that they just rely on the trigger hurt to kill you and that the teleport trigger is always active. They could have turned it off and only activate it when the sequence is complete like it's done in many other places. But that's what professional speedrunning is about. Finding all the things in a map and the game itsel that you can potentially exploit in some way. Bunny hopping, circle jumping, grenade boosts, gauss-boosts, save glitches, AI glitches, ... everything is on the table.
Door is programmed incorrectly - when it closes on you, it is supposed to deal one damage, per tick/frame. BUT this door is glitched and instead of dealing 1 damage, it does -1 damage, healing the person stuck in it. By maxing your FPS, and thus, the number of ticks the game can register the fact you're stuck in the door and taking 'damage', you can quickly boost your HP to very high numbers.
This has 13m views and from the HL2 dev speedrun commentary we know that Valve looks at speedruns, so its almost a guarantee they've seen this. Wouldn't be surprised if even someone as high as Gabe has seen it. Well done.

@@natsoy1786probably an oversight done by valve, they most likely meant to do 1 damage but i guess they thought negative number = damage or smth
@@ThatSmartTH-camUserthere is a theory that the door(s, there is another door with the same properties) was set to deal -1 hp damage because the old barney ai would get stuck in these specific doors frequently and die. as a result, they set it to -1 hp as a quick fix, or for debugging, but forgot to set it to a better number like 0 before release

@@b3ario :D Though the HP don't really matter at this point. The trigger_hurt does 10k demage every half a second. He only gets past it because of the hornet he fires into the trigger just before touching it himself. Since the trigger has a cooldown of half a second, the player can fall through and touch the teleport trigger before getting damage.

Yes, that's usually when you die ^^. Though there are several triggers that overlap. One of them is a trigger_hurt that is supposed to kill you. However that trigger can only apply damage in certain invervals. It's a short interval though. What he does is shooting a hornet from the hornet gun into the trigger just before he touches it. So the trigger kills the hornet and the player doesn't get damage. The trigger_teleport is just located below that. You are teleported into a small level transition chamber (with those flashing green walls) where you wait for the level transition. It's actually luck that they just rely on the trigger hurt to kill you and that the teleport trigger is always active. They could have turned it off and only activate it when the sequence is complete like it's done in many other places. But that's what professional speedrunning is about. Finding all the things in a map and the game itsel that you can potentially exploit in some way. Bunny hopping, circle jumping, grenade boosts, gauss-boosts, save glitches, AI glitches, ... everything is on the table.

Why did the wall give it health?
Door is programmed incorrectly - when it closes on you, it is supposed to deal one damage, per tick/frame.
BUT this door is glitched and instead of dealing 1 damage, it does -1 damage, healing the person stuck in it. By maxing your FPS, and thus, the number of ticks the game can register the fact you're stuck in the door and taking 'damage', you can quickly boost your HP to very high numbers.

This has 13m views and from the HL2 dev speedrun commentary we know that Valve looks at speedruns, so its almost a guarantee they've seen this. Wouldn't be surprised if even someone as high as Gabe has seen it. Well done.
