Could you expand on what you said in the description about it being laggy when doing excel sheets? I’m a college student, and I’m looking to buy this adapter for my two 4K monitors. If you could make an additional video on your experience, I’d appreciate it
Sure, it's more noticeable with the more resource-intensive programs running but the laggy experience really shows up when using a mouse through Bluetooth (using the Logitech unify device now and better but not perfect) and it seems to be exaggerated when using the display link software and the Starlink dongle. Maybe this is because there is already a slight lag from the CPU rendering the screen displays through the DisplayLink software and then the mouse lag input?? That's only my experience and not by any means universal. The actual function of using it for Excel sheets and standard navigation and functions like web surfing etc you wouldn't likely notice that much and it's usable for sure, but it is there constantly in our case. Maybe I'm picky because I'm used to my PC and Macbook Pro 15" because my partner doesn't complain about it??? The setup we have on that video is 2x 60Hz 4k monitors, Mouse Logitech MX master 3, Macbook Pro 13", and the Aten Thunderbolt 3 dock for USB plugs and power. Let me know if that helped answer your question or if you needed that video! Thanks, Ese
@@whoami6821 yeah I do but I asking my fiancé she says she doesn’t notice it and I wonder if it’s me be very picky as I usually use my 144hz monitor with my PC and the mouse input lag is very low. I would say it’s definitely there and more noticeable when she has more apps and windows open but not enough to deem it unusable. I hope that makes sense ☺️
clean production Ese! Vid is great, is this the same for the M1 mac mini? - need to work on the audio quality though, theres something in your eq or compression thats giving a little background noise in the mid- low frequencies. Love your work xx
Thanks! I think it's time for you to help me out with the audio as you are a trained professional in this field! Please. I actually answered that in the description but to recap no for Mac Mini M1 they are able to do two monitors out of the box! Can't wait for you to come over to help with the audio or even better see you in the gym!
I've been reading on the internet that people experience issues with displaylink like random glitches, having to unplug/replug the adapter constantly. Have you experienced any of these issues?
So far we haven’t noticed any of those faults, I’d say in the time he have had it we have had to unplug and re plug the adapter in less there 5 times. That’s with everyday use and multiple off/on situations. I can’t speak on other peoples set ups but with this one it’s worked pretty seem less
Hi ! Thanks for the video :) I have trouble with mine, I can hear the sound but can't see the videos I am playing when noth are connected to my mac. Do you happen to know why ? Thanks a lot !!
Hi! A couple things I have come across since having it. 1. Sometimes the software needed to shut down and reopened to get it to connect to the screens attached to the USB dongle. 2. Try with one screen plugged in and then see if the display link software can recognise them. 3. Check in the system preferences to see if the display set up is mirror or extend. You might be able to play around with some of those settings to see if that intiates a connection. 4. Check resolution and refresh rate set up in the same display preferences incase there is an issue there. I hope you get to the bottom of it all! Ese
Yeah I couldn’t find a perfect solution with this that is a dongle and displaylink compatible the best I could find is: www.startech.com/en-nz/audio-video-products/usb32hd2 But you will have to have one monitor at 4K 30Hz and the other at 1080 which is a bit tough if you have two 4K monitors!
Hi there from Denmark. One quick question. If you use accessibility zoom, under system prefs, does the zoom effect both/all connected monitors or is there a way to make it only effect one? I have use Decklink PCIe capture card from Black magic on my older system to avoid the zoom to effect both. I hope the question made sense :-D Thanx again :-)
Hey, for MacBooks you only need to install the software and I think it does the rest for you once you plug in the dongle. www.displaylink.com/downloads/macos Hope that helps! Cheers and sorry for the delay, Ese

What do u mean when u say startech adaptor not needed if u don't need more things plugged into the USB c port?
Which driver did you download, I need it for my MacBook Pro M1, but I only see drivers that are for windows users

Does this dock support 21:9 monitor?
does it also work if you connect the displaylink adapter via usb 3 into the macbook pro with a usb c adapter?
That's how we have it. The Starlink adapter is a usb a plug that plugs into a apple usb c - usb - a adapter, is that what you mean? thanks
how is your noctua nh-d15 going I bought one recently and it's amazing
Yeah it’s still going really well and super happy with it!
@@mrtwomore yeah most the time my fans ain't even running lol

What about charging during the both monitors are on
The MacBook can be charged by plugging into the other port.
Can your 4k monitor scale to 2560*1440 with HiDPI?
I use another adapter disable this option.🙁
I'm really not sure of the answer to this sorry! I'll try and see if I can do what you are asking for.
Hi
Can i close the macbook pro While i use this adapter or need to stay open?
I’ll have a play and see if there is a way but from my experience so far the answer is no sorry!
Does that adaptor allow the monitors to be rotated into portrait if that’s your preference?
Hey Duncan, I’ll try when I get home to see if that’s possible!
Apologies, I've tried a couple times and have been unsuccessful with being able to rotate one of the screens while the other is running standard.
How is the cpu and gpu load while using two displays with it ?
Hey! Let me check and come back to you!
imgur.com/gallery/WRVPK2O here’s the activity monitor stats for you!
You didn't explain anything in the video and you didn't provide any relevant information
Haha, you aren't wrong! I hope you disliked it too or reported it :)
can we use these with type c dongle
Yes that’s the only way as this adapter is a USB 3 type A plug normally and we added the USB c adapter to it ☺️
That single adapter is one third of macbook
Namaste 🙏
