as a united fan... i can safely say. Gerrard was the scariest player in the league to play against (other than henry). he could do it all.... spray an 80 yard pass from his own corner flag. Dive into a 50-50 no dramas... shoot from literally anywhere. the guy was special....we need to stop this narrative that he wasn't up there with figo and zidane as one of the players EVERYONE and i mean everyone wished they had at their club.

Take away the olympiakos goal, the milan goal, and the west ham goal (but why would we, you might fairy ask) and hes not even in the gerrard/lampard/scholes debate. He was a fantastic ,well rounded player. No more. For a few seasons he was world class, lampard and scholes spent their whole careers being world class. Loyal to liverpool? Just look at Newcastle treatment to coloccini and Jonas gutierrez, or Arsenals treatment to Özil, or Casillas treatment at Madrid.

At the end of the day Gerrard playing for Liverpool back then would be the equivalent of say Kevin de Bruyne playing for Aston Villa. Of course all the clubs were after him because he was arguably the best center mid on the planet playing for the forth best team in the league and frankly for most of those years without him they wouldn't have even been a top six side. The reason Liverpool fans adore him so much is because on so many occasions its hard to count, when no one else on the pitch could be arsed, Gerrard would basically have to do everything on the pitch and grab a result from nothing. I've never seen a guy on so many occasions have to become a one man team and almost kill himself trying to get something out of a bad game.

I think some fans forget just how fickle and disrespectful they and the club can be to their (sometimes former) star players, yet it's wrong if a player decides to ply his trade for another club because they're supposed to be loyal, even if the club as a whole is significantly underperforming and not showing any real ambition for more. Don't get me wrong, Liverpool was able to reach back-to-back Champions League finals, one of which they won, that's no small feat, but to go 20 plus years without a domestic title is embarrassing for a club of that pedigree. It's great to have the desire to bring trophies to the team you supported as a kid, but for Steven to have to play his ass off year after year trying to drag Liverpool towards being a champion in the Prem, only to come up short time and time again, I'm sorry, but he had every right to seriously entertain other options.

maybe. but grealish moving to city gave aston villa a hundred million pounds. that is valuable too in a way. countinho leaving liverpool allowed them to get alison and vvd and that helped them win champions league and the premier league. lukaku leaving gave inter a 100 mill when they desperately needed it after lost revenue because of covid 19. grealish, if he had stayed his whole career would have been a club legend. at city he probably won't be because there are kdb, sterling, silva, foden, gundogan and mahrez that all do what grealish does. in my opinion his function at city is like a whetting stone. city bringing in top players helps prevent the current ones from becoming complacent. city is a top club and the mental strength and discipline required is different than being at a mid table club where the expectations are different. the high price tag hanging over grealish won't help either. but rodri took a season to bed in, maybe this will just take time. i hope he comes good, but we shall see.

Imagine winning the Ballon d'Or at the age of 22. Imagine being a hero to so many kids who grew up watching you. Imagine scoring an insane goal in the World Cup at the age of only 18.
And today you are a legend in nowhere. No one chants your name, no one gives you a standing ovation everytime you appear in any stadium, be it in the stadium of your last club, your boyhood club, the best club you ever played for, or the club where you finally got the medal you wanted. That's Michael Owen for you.
I swear I honestly don't see how winning a medal beats loyalty in this one. 😅

Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard is my favourite English player. Both of them were world class, and could play in any team strengthen the team.

City had a plan to build a squad and weaken their immediate opposition/rivals..
Hence they tried to attract players from top four teams like arsenal and united. Newcastle are doing it with Burnley.
