Great explore. Thanks Dave! Love being a subscriber but this Scottish great gran had my heart in my mouth as you were climbing those staircases, more especially as you made your way down again. The steps were so narrow.
I think perhaps that the later buildings you explored were part of the castle’s support of kitchen gardens and perhaps a dairy and buttery. Back in the day, with countless acres of land, there’d have been livestock to supply the kitchen too. They’d have had their own ale and mead made, preserving and pickling done on the estate. The household had their own soaps and candles made there too. My Nana was the cook at ‘the big hoose’ (the local laird’s home) in the late 1800s onwards until the 1910s, and said that there were dovecotes and beehives too. The bread was home baked every day. Quite a few servants, including a seamstress. They would have been quite self sufficient to feed the family and staff. The workers’ cottages housed the important staff such as the estate manager, head herdsman, and perhaps the factotum and his wife who could work in the house if needed. My Nana said a few maids and footmen would also live in staff quarters, sometimes up in the attic areas above family bedrooms. Other staff came in from the village. There was no supermarket down the road for groceries!
I appreciate your remarks about the need for housing these days but, unfortunately, these places would never be suitable. People need good suburban housing which is weatherproof and safe; doesn’t cost the earth to heat, and with plenty of modern infrastructure such as doctor, schools, shops, and things for adolescents and teens to enjoy. Only serious self-sufficiency minded folk could take on life as it was back then in these more modern times.

Thanks for revisiting this beautiful place, Dave. It's such a shame it was left to rot and it's going to take some work to get it looking the way it did but so pleased it has has been purchased for renovation. I'd love to see it when it opens as a wedding venue.

That snooker/billiards room upstairs was really nice, I could imagine being up there on a cold winter night with the fireplace roaring, enjoying a game with friends.

So much decay not thinking that someone would buy it to restore it to it`s original beauty-- will take a lot of time and effort.Your right you`ll have to go back when it`s all completed. wow - wish there was a picture of it all when it was all working. Those other out buildings were probably not only the barns for all the different animals needed, like cows & horses, maybe even sheep, chickens. There would have had to be places for slaughter and such. There would probably been a creamery type building for milk, cream & butter. Another building for a bakery as none of this stuff could have been done in the main house. There wouldn’t have been stores down the street, so the green house probably raised all of there vegetables & such. I really enjoyed this one, thank you and always stay safe.

I sure enjoyed this one! To think of what that probably was in its grandeur, oh my gosh!!! I have always loved the castles and mansions with a spiral staircase, and the rooms coming off of them. I always thought that was so cool! Glad you keep yourself safe and don’t try to step out on rotten floors or stairs. It would be very exciting to see this after it was renovated. It kind of looks like at one time it was almost like a clan that lived there on the grounds. Beautiful country! Thank you for bringing it to us. Take care and blessings!

When I was a child of around 11 ( which now is quite a few years ago) we were up in Scotland with my parents, they stopped to have a break make a cup of tea with the old calor gas stove, I went wandering around just down the road the road split to the left I stopped at a rural brick wall and looked down into the valley, there was the most beautiful white fairy castle all the turrets and everything, I’ve never forgotten it, no idea where we were tho.

That place where it looked like a barn on the ground floor & living accommodation upstairs was stables with staff accommodation above where stable boys & ostlers would live & look after the horses. I saw old garage doors too & a mechanics workshop for cars.

Hey Dave what an amazing old house , must of cost a bomb back in the day, and had loads of staff, and a massive family, makes u wonder where they all went, but what a bargain she got hope she does do it up be amazing if it's restored bk to what it once was, otherwise such a shame they all just sit lost in the country side for years falling into disrepair, thanks for sharing loved this explore 👍💖xxx

Hi Dave my favourite is always the turrets when it comes to castles and stately homes etc. The turrets get me every time. This castle is exceptionally beautiful from the outside that your visiting. Oh and I miss Marky and I long to hear country roads. It must be structural in the walls and floors for it to be renovated.

You are absolutely correct the architectural design of the original house is absolutely gorgeous it would make a beautiful wedding venue with a restaurant and bed and breakfast but I would take some of the outbuildings and maybe turn one into into an indoor outdoor pool with an opening roof for the guests and I would use the green houses again maybe to supply grapes to wineries. I absolutely love this video.

i've been known to explore and have learned to go backward on steps, especially steep ones. ball of the foot is easier to steady than the heel!! cheers!!

Hey David, I can't believe this place was sold for renovation, after rewatching the video the place to me was beyond repair, (shows ya what I know) I was on my treadmill, and you certainly took my mind off that because I was screaming at you to just leave you had me so scared for you, (it's about 296 thousand US dollars), then the cost of renovations wow. I get they want the history of it but I don't think there is enough history to save. I wish them luck and I hope you can go back when it's finished. thanks Dave Love from N.Y.
