I did this and replaced the battery and also obtained the new battery shells and it worked great- no need to cut all around the fob as others showed but instead this person did.
Soddered the new batteries into two keys .

holy shit that was so easy. Didnt want to cut around cause I was afraid I will damage the PCB, but this worked like a charm. Only had to use tougher knife this one was too bendy. Genius

Hello, you have inspired me to replace the battery in my keys because the car opens from 2 meters max, I just have a question whether the replacement key power supply should be connected for the time of soldering the battery to not decode, if so, where to connect the power supply. Great instructional video, congratulations. I couldn't understand what to do in case of a complete key discharge and the inability to recharge it when inserted into the ignition, in the case of a key charged by the car. It happened to me with my E91, probably due to not using it for several years. How can I make the key fully functional again? Thank you in advance for your response and the time dedicated to it.
You need to bring the car back to its life, the best way to do that is if you charge the car battery and then test the key battery to see if there is a signal coming and interfering with each other

I recommend replacing the key and programming it. I can help you out with that, let me know if you are interested.
Hi, in some forums people are mentioning that if you remove the battery you have to reprogram/recode the key to your car. Is that true? Or will the key work just fine (start car/open + lock doors) once the new battery is soldered?
From my experience you do not have to reprogram t he key after the battery replacement. Only key that u need to program is the diamond key.
You make it look so easy. I couldn't do that. Would totally mess it up 🙄 ended up paying £168.98 for a new fob 😕
You have to be extremely careful when dealing with such small components as they are easy to break.
Should of just tried if you was going to buy a new f9b anyway 🤷🏻♂️ makes more sense to me lol just a thought

How long does the original rechargeable battery last on average? Say if I don't drive the car for 2 months, then the battery would die. Does it usually come back to life after some charging? If so, how long?
Extremely long life span. If the battery is charged good they can last you for years.

No you cannot do that.Yes you will generate some damage.. UL2020 is a rechargeable battery while UL2032 is not.
So do these come with rechargeable batteries? It seems strange to me why they made them like this and I only have one key! And its the one that's hard to get into!

A non-CA (rechargeable) key can be programmed to be used on a CA car? If so, does it mean a CA car is capable of recharging a non-CA key even it, by default, uses non-rechargeable (but replaceable) keys?

I didn't drive my car for like 3 months, and my key doesn't work now, can I recharge it with my car?
Yes, you can charge it using your car, however if the battery is bad in the key then you will need to replace it, you can come up with a conclusion after a week of driving using the same key.
You can easily recharge the battery with either a wireless charger for a phone or an electric toothbrush charger. No need to rip open a glued fob, apply solder gun, risk need to reprogram (as lots of the car’s functionality is transferred to the fob).

It's not so hard when you tried to do this once.
I replaced the battery on my spare key fob, the same way you did. But it doesn't seem like it works after the replacement. Am I supposed to reprogram/resync the keyfob to the car?
The spare key starts the car, but it won't unlock/lock it.
Everything should work properly, unless if there is something in the key such as the frequency, keys in general can work on different frequencies, you need to check and see what frequency your original key was running on and what key does your spare key run on.

Bmw failed to design the 2sd key . Not the best way to replace a battery. The 1st one was easy, the 2sd looks unsafe and hard. Why changing a good design ???
