Hey Dean! Got a new case and soldered a new battery to my fob. E90 2006. The car locks, unlocks with new fob, but the dash won't accept the key. The start stop lights up but it kicks it back out with no dash lights. Went to bmw today and they wouldn't reprogram it. Any ideas? Thanks so much!

My issue was the diversity antenna, when I bought the car last year the nugget who sold me it said it was just the battery in the fob. Should of known when he put the key near the 3rd break light but I knew nothing about the E60 then. After damaging 1 of the fobs I watched 1of your videos on the antenna replacement and sure enough after purchasing a new unit it worked. Replaced the fob I damaged (comfort key)and now all good. Should of looked up on it before, might of saved myself a few quid on a new fob lol. Thanks again BMW Doctor your yt videos are top notch and no wonder you channel has grown so much in the last year!
Hi there.. I might be in the exact same Situation as you.. Last week I bought a bmw 2009 328i coupe I believe it’s the e92… Anyways the dude who sold me the car gave me two keys but said they’re not working and just blamed the batteries. Even sent me a video on the replacement.. Today I received the soldering kit and a new battery, went ahead and slashed the key fob in two, removed and solder new battery and doesn’t do anything. As I was doing it I put this video and was listening to it/watching it in the background and thinking to myself.. if both keys don’t work odds are that might be something else than both failing with the battery…but you never know, you trust the person that sells you the car. So now that I did the job, went to the car no success, kinda put it together without sealing it, put it in the casa r and it starts , drove it around the block to see if anything, turn off, get out of the car, press buttons and no response at all. Thinking (and makes total sense) it’s the antena or receiver in the car. Any idea where to look for it and or change it/test it? Was it very expensive for you? Thank you.
Yay! I believed my key fob has not got a battery that I can change. Hehe, guess what...you just saved me some nerves. I changed the battery and I can lock/unlick my car again! ❤

I just recently bought my first BMW, a 2006 330xD Kombi. When I first got the car, both key fobs worked fine but one day I forgot to turn my parking lights off and the car battery died. Since then I haven't been able to unlock or lock the doors with either key fob. They both start the engine, but I have to use the physical key to unlock the doors. I went to a key specialist who had the proper equipment to determine if the key fobs where transmitting signal properly and both of them were. He told me the problem is with the car. I disassembled the central locking unit and it was brand new. So the question is, how do I sync the fobs to the central locking unit? Is there a special software I need? Is it able to be done without paying an arm & a leg at the BMW dealership? Any help would be appreciated!

I have an E70 LCI with comfort access. One key worked fine, then buttons became intermittently inoperative, bit then would work fine. Then out the blue a few days after this started, all buttons stopped working. Replaced the regular battery, found previous owner had cut the case open maybe thinking it was the rechargeable battery. Comfort access works on this key but not buttons, starts car fine. Are there issues with the key output to the cars antenna? The other key works perfectly fine as a remote and comfort access.
Hi, I had a different problem with mine. Sometimes it worked fine and other times I would have to be right by the receiver to get it to unlock. After some months it stopped locking altogether. It would unlock and open the boot.. In the end, I found that it was the locking micro-switch was at fault. I bought 3 from Ebay. I de-soldered the old one and fitted a new one and now it works fine.
Mine stopped locking for periods. Would unlock and open the boot from like 15m away. This morning when the car hit precisely 280 000km the fob stopped working completely (only starts the car)

I meant to leave car on trickle charge but unfortunately had left the battery charger on fast charging and I think it overcharged because the car doesn’t open via the key fob. It will unlock manually but the alarm goes off until I put the key in the ignition and then the car starts fine. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hi. So I got 2 key fobs these exact ones programed for my 2008 335i, the keys start my car when I put them in the slot, but they don't unlock or lock the car with the buttons on the fob. They're the same frequency as the original key 315Mhz.. what could be the issue? I tried all your tricks.
Watched this video when both my key fobs started reporting low charge warning. My car wouldnt start one day turned out to be flooded battery compartment. On return from costly repair noted that start/stop function had started working again (i actually forgot it had this function as wasnt doing it for a while). Took car a drive using both keys and both charged while driving as expected. So if you get low fob battery warning and stop start not functioning check your main battery and components for issues as could be an early warning sign.
So, in my case it is about an E60 obviously, 2 Original FOB Keys (factory sealed), one of them works perfectly, like open/close/trunk and ignition... the second one, only igniton works, so open/close/trunk would not wort at all. Why I did so far is like changing the battery (soldering) and also tried to initialise the key (key in, ignition on, key out, hold UNLOCK and then 3 times on Lock within 10 seconds) and obviously did not work. I am missing something ?! 🙂
Hi mate, I need your help! BMW X5 2010 both key fobs don’t work won’t unlock or lock but central locking button works fine from inside car. Don’t think it’s battery’s as no sign is displayed on dash. I’ve checked the two central locking fuses and they are both ok, Any idea where I should look next ?
Same. Key turns car on, central locking works. Key doesn’t work at locking/unlocking what do ever even right next to the diversity antenna. Let me know if you find the fix!

One day I would like to use the second key, fails to unlock remotely but it can ignite the car. Try to charge it for 30 mins drive but the buttons on it still don’t work. What should I do now? Thanks. I was able to replace my battery. It works to unlock the door, but when I go to start it…it says the remote is not detected. I’ve held the remote to the steering column to start the car. It works, but when I shut off the engine it says remote not detected again. Do you know what I should do? The key worked fine before I changed the battery, and yes, it was replaced with the exact same battery that worked fine. Thanks
Hi this is great help. However I have soldered a new battery in to my fob and checked there is power with a multi meter drove the car for 20miles before pressing the button and still not working would you recommending using it more or another problem both keys are flat 320d touring 2010 thanks

Dr. Dean, I need your help! So I have a E60, 2006 bmw 525i. The key fob won’t open or close the doors. It is the original remote fob and it starts the car. The door close/unlock switch inside the car functions properly, but the key fob won’t open or close the doors but when I lock the door with the key blade it locks all the doors and arms the alarm. I changed the original battery, put In a new one believing that was the issue, but it didn’t do nothing still. I used a frequency/megahertz signal detector to check if it was sending out a signal and realized it is not sending out the signal when I press the buttons. I Decided to check the original battery I changed out and realized that it had 1.293v which I thought it would’ve been dead completely cause that car didn’t move in a few years. The new battery I soldered in was 3.166v. What should I do?
Hi, I got a bmw e60 2005 that has that older key and the problem it has is that the signal is very poor, i have to come very close to make it open. I heard that you can’t replace the battery on those keys, what would you suggest I should do? I would really appreciate your response, thank you.
I have the same problem. Disconnected the car battery, first the black terminal then the red. I installed the cables in reverse order. Radio has no issues. It has strong signal. Keyfobs are both transmitting but remote function lost. Fobs both stopped working after I reconnected the car battery. I use the metal key to lock and unlock the car. Every time I open the car, the alarm goes off. Help!

Hi. I have a slightly different problem. My fob will unlock the car, open the boot but it will not lock the car. The button is nice and clicky and I have checked the solders round the button and there is no cracks or gaps. I do have to stand right next to the drivers door for the car to open with the fob. It will not open with the fob if you are 2 meters away.
Great video man. Not much content on this topic. I’ve got a question for ya. My x5 key has been through the wash a few time and is my only key. It now only works in the ignition. No buttons or touch controls anymore. Ignition still works though. What could that be and think it’s fixable?

I have a 5 Series E60 2.5 engine., few weeks ago i had a warning sign come up saying the remote key battery is LOW, i ignored it and then went away abroad for two weeks, then upon my return i find the key is weak, sometimes it opens the door sometimes it takes 5 or 6 presses, now the other problem i have since yesterday is that the KEY WILL NOT GO IN THE IGNITION, when i push it in the car comes on but the key gets spat out, i can drive the car fine with the key on my lap though, i am not sure how to solve this, please could you kindly offer any help?

ok, so I have two Fobs (Same as in the video) one works perfectly, the other doesn't - the 'lock button doesn't work - all other buttons function perfectly. How do I get to the button ? is it even worth having a go ?Can't see how to get the roundal button out? I've got soldering equipment so if it needs soldering up that's the easy bit for me!

Hi, I have a sealed key fob with no battery access on my E92 and the lock button has stopped working. Boot and unlock buttons both work. Any ideas? I don't want to cut it open because I can't seem to find a replacement fob without the battery cover, does that matter?
We have just bought our 520d, and found a key issue. I've also found a tuning issue on the radio and after replacing the battery in the key fob and the the fuses in the glove box and the boot, the key fob still doesn't work. The key works fine in the ignition, and starts the car no problem. What would your next step be? Replace the other battery in the key fob or just go straight to the diversity antenna replacement. If its replace the antenna, do you have a video on this? Thanks.

Hi Dean, I’m having a real issue after I replaced the key fob shell on my BMW one series convertible. It doesn’t work at all anymore after no previous issues. Tried the paper trick to push the battery down but unsuccessful. Any other ideas would be very much appreciated 😊

When we desolder the battery isn't the key data and programming wiped out? Mine unlocks the doors but i have to click alot of times until it decides to lock finally.
BMW650I 2007 convertible fob remote opening is fine, roof down with remote no issues. BUT the locking is an issue. My spare remote working well. The question would be WHY the locking can’t be done from the remote. Thank you.

BMW 2009 X5 35d One key works fine second key will start car but no remote functions. Checked the battery voltage and it's just over 3v. This model requires the key to be inserted into the dash for the engine to start. (No proximity starting). No comfort access. Any ideas how to fix this second key? RHD Australian X5.

So had a problem with my e60 , would not open doors , believe it or not , my friend told me to put it on electric toothbrush charger , works perfectly after overnight on it , sounds crazy , but absolutely worked

He got a 2006 525i e60 all the lights on the dash came on and the radio ect and the car won’t start or crank any ideas? I’ve check all the fuses and once I did that the speedometer doesn’t light up but radio still works not sure what’s happening and if you know a fix please
So, I have a brand new keyfob for my e90, gotten from BMW in 2009, can start the car but cannot lock/unlock. I assume the battery is dead as it wasn't used in years, tried changing it, toothbrush charger, left it in the ignition over the night, still nothing. Can it be somehow tested or is it definitely a battery issue? Cheers
My issue with my 06 E61 is that it did first work from mars last year when i bought it and all the way to december/january month i think ut was,then it suddenly worked a few weeks again and now the plast few month non off the keys work Again... I also cant find any relating fault codes, any thing om the receiver i can see any thing wrong with?

Thanks for the video. I have only one key which quit working long ago but works fine in the ignition. Assuming it was the battery, I changed it only only to find it still did not work. The old battery still read 3.2V so it seems the column is still charging it fine. My car is an e61 wagon. I looked at the diversity antenna and found no evidence of water having ever been inside it. Is there any way to test the antenna? I will say that before my key stopped working completely, it did have poor range. But I have no issues with FM radio or GPS Nav. Is my next move to source a new antenna? is there anything I can do to be sure that's it first? Again my key works for ignition, just not for the central looking controls on the fob. Thank you!
I have exact same situation. E61 touring, key starts car fine, radio all works nice and clear, new battery put into key fob, no central locking. However I have had to open cars with keys in the lock for years so its no big deal opening and locking it with the actual key, plus I'm not planning on selling it, just running it into the ground. So for me a fix would be good, but not essential.

I replaced thy fob shell and successfully got it to work for a while, but it stopped working all of a sudden….changed the battery and inserted a piece of paper on top to get it snugged, but that didn’t work

Hi dean not sure if you will read this but, my non comfort access key was working then, within a week the distance got reduced and the amount of clicks needed to unlock/lock the car increased and shortly after the week the fob buttons stopped working and ive been doing manual unlocking/locking, the key starts the car. Just changed the battery in the key and on top the old battery held a decent voltage. Key still doesn’t work. So I checked all forums online which said check fuses, all my fuses that could be associated were fine and not blown. Took out the diversity antenna and it appeared to be fine. Online forums with ppl in my exact situation said they changed the diversity antenna and it still doesn’t work, is there a way I can check if the car is receiving the key signals, or should I try the diversity antenna! there hasn’t been a solution to this in the dozens of forums I read.

If you change the Cas you also need to change the ecu?

Why I did so far is like changing the battery (soldering) and also tried to initialise the key (key in, ignition on, key out, hold UNLOCK and then 3 times on Lock within 10 seconds) and obviously did not work. I am missing something ?! 🙂

BMW X5 2010 both key fobs don’t work won’t unlock or lock but central locking button works fine from inside car.
Don’t think it’s battery’s as no sign is displayed on dash. I’ve checked the two central locking fuses and they are both ok,

Same. Key turns car on, central locking works.
Key doesn’t work at locking/unlocking what do ever even right next to the diversity antenna.

Hello. Thanks for your video. I have a E82 without comfort access. I have two original keys and the one I use daily works fine. One day I would like to use the second key, fails to unlock remotely but it can ignite the car. Try to charge it for 30 mins drive but the buttons on it still don’t work. What should I do now? Thanks. I was able to replace my battery. It works to unlock the door, but when I go to start it…it says the remote is not detected. I’ve held the remote to the steering column to start the car. It works, but when I shut off the engine it says remote not detected again. Do you know what I should do? The key worked fine before I changed the battery, and yes, it was replaced with the exact same battery that worked fine. Thanks
Hi this is great help. However I have soldered a new battery in to my fob and checked there is power with a multi meter drove the car for 20miles before pressing the button and still not working would you recommending using it more or another problem both keys are flat 320d touring 2010 thanks

Dr. Dean, I need your help! So I have a E60, 2006 bmw 525i. The key fob won’t open or close the doors. It is the original remote fob and it starts the car. The door close/unlock switch inside the car functions properly, but the key fob won’t open or close the doors but when I lock the door with the key blade it locks all the doors and arms the alarm. I changed the original battery, put In a new one believing that was the issue, but it didn’t do nothing still. I used a frequency/megahertz signal detector to check if it was sending out a signal and realized it is not sending out the signal when I press the buttons. I Decided to check the original battery I changed out and realized that it had 1.293v which I thought it would’ve been dead completely cause that car didn’t move in a few years. The new battery I soldered in was 3.166v. What should I do?
Hi, I got a bmw e60 2005 that has that older key and the problem it has is that the signal is very poor, i have to come very close to make it open. I heard that you can’t replace the battery on those keys, what would you suggest I should do? I would really appreciate your response, thank you.

I have the same problem. Disconnected the car battery, first the black terminal then the red. I installed the cables in reverse order. Radio has no issues. It has strong signal. Keyfobs are both transmitting but remote function lost. Fobs both stopped working after I reconnected the car battery. I use the metal key to lock and unlock the car. Every time I open the car, the alarm goes off. Help!

Hey my battery starting to seem weak. It would only work when it was close to the car. I bought a new battery and soldered then now it doesn’t work at all I don’t know what to do I don’t really have any software. Are there any reset options by holding buttons down

Hi. I have a slightly different problem.
My fob will unlock the car, open the boot but it will not lock the car.
The button is nice and clicky and I have checked the solders round the button and there is no cracks or gaps.
I do have to stand right next to the drivers door for the car to open with the fob. It will not open with the fob if you are 2 meters away.
I have the same issue did you fix it ?

I have a 5 Series E60 2.5 engine., few weeks ago i had a warning sign come up saying the remote key battery is LOW, i ignored it and then went away abroad for two weeks, then upon my return i find the key is weak, sometimes it opens the door sometimes it takes 5 or 6 presses, now the other problem i have since yesterday is that the KEY WILL NOT GO IN THE IGNITION, when i push it in the car comes on but the key gets spat out, i can drive the car fine with the key on my lap though, i am not sure how to solve this, please could you kindly offer any help?
Great video 🤞👌😎 Dealers will never tell you this stuff. I used to have an E90 and had some of these issues towards the end of me owning that car. The dealer was clueless!!! The F series keys seem to be much better...........
ok, so I have two Fobs (Same as in the video) one works perfectly, the other doesn't - the 'lock button doesn't work - all other buttons function perfectly. How do I get to the button ? is it even worth having a go ?Can't see how to get the roundal button out? I've got soldering equipment so if it needs soldering up that's the easy bit for me!

Hi, I have a sealed key fob with no battery access on my E92 and the lock button has stopped working. Boot and unlock buttons both work. Any ideas? I don't want to cut it open because I can't seem to find a replacement fob without the battery cover, does that matter?

Can i use the comfort key with my car.
We have just bought our 520d, and found a key issue. I've also found a tuning issue on the radio and after replacing the battery in the key fob and the the fuses in the glove box and the boot, the key fob still doesn't work. The key works fine in the ignition, and starts the car no problem. What would your next step be? Replace the other battery in the key fob or just go straight to the diversity antenna replacement. If its replace the antenna, do you have a video on this?

Hi Dean, I’m having a real issue after I replaced the key fob shell on my BMW one series convertible. It doesn’t work at all anymore after no previous issues. Tried the paper trick to push the battery down but unsuccessful. Any other ideas would be very much appreciated 😊

When we desolder the battery isn't the key data and programming wiped out? Mine unlocks the doors but i have to click alot of times until it decides to lock finally.
BMW650I 2007 convertible fob remote opening is fine, roof down with remote no issues. BUT the locking is an issue. My spare remote working well. The question would be WHY the locking can’t be done from the remote. Thank you.

BMW 2009 X5 35d One key works fine second key will start car but no remote functions. Checked the battery voltage and it's just over 3v. This model requires the key to be inserted into the dash for the engine to start. (No proximity starting). No comfort access. Any ideas how to fix this second key? RHD Australian X5.

So, I have a brand new keyfob for my e90, gotten from BMW in 2009, can start the car but cannot lock/unlock. I assume the battery is dead as it wasn't used in years, tried changing it, toothbrush charger, left it in the ignition over the night, still nothing. Can it be somehow tested or is it definitely a battery issue? Cheers

My issue with my 06 E61 is that it did first work from mars last year when i bought it and all the way to december/january month i think ut was,then it suddenly worked a few weeks again and now the plast few month non off the keys work Again... Thanks for the video. I have only one key which quit working long ago but works fine in the ignition. Assuming it was the battery, I changed it only only to find it still did not work. The old battery still read 3.2V so it seems the column is still charging it fine. My car is an e61 wagon. I looked at the diversity antenna and found no evidence of water having ever been inside it. Is there any way to test the antenna? I will say that before my key stopped working completely, it did have poor range. But I have no issues with FM radio or GPS Nav. Is my next move to source a new antenna? is there anything I can do to be sure that's it first? Again my key works for ignition, just not for the central looking controls on the fob. Thank you!
I have exact same situation. E61 touring, key starts car fine, radio all works nice and clear, new battery put into key fob, no central locking.
However I have had to open cars with keys in the lock for years so its no big deal opening and locking it with the actual key, plus I'm not planning on selling it, just running it into the ground. So for me a fix would be good, but not essential.

Hi dean not sure if you will read this but, my non comfort access key was working then, within a week the distance got reduced and the amount of clicks needed to unlock/lock the car increased and shortly after the week the fob buttons stopped working and ive been doing manual unlocking/locking, the key starts the car. Just changed the battery in the key and on top the old battery held a decent voltage. Key still doesn’t work. So I checked all forums online which said check fuses, all my fuses that could be associated were fine and not blown. Took out the diversity antenna and it appeared to be fine. Online forums with ppl in my exact situation said they changed the diversity antenna and it still doesn’t work, is there a way I can check if the car is receiving the key signals, or should I try the diversity antenna! there hasn’t been a solution to this in the dozens of forums I read.
