  • Cobra Style Serve by Yurie Nabeya | Craziest Serve in Volleyball History. Yurie Nabeya (鍋谷 友理枝, Nabeya Yurie, born 15 December 1993) is a Japanese female volleyball player. She played in the 2016 Summer Olympics. She is part of the Japan women's national volleyball team. She participated at the 2015 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix, and the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix. On club level she played for Denso Airybees in 2015.
    She has a very interesting way of performing the service. During the serve, she sets her right hand so that it looks like a Cobra. Many call her service one of the craziest serves in volleyball history. Her service was therefore named Cobra Style Serve.

    When I first played volleyball, I wasn't able to serve with upper hand. My coach taught me the cobra style serve and from then on I could serve over consistently. My teammates always laugh at the cobra hand but I know how powerful it is. Now my coach taught me another serving method, the ball went faster now :) My coach really taught me so well...I know I had a lot to learn since I played from scratch while my teammates all had experience but his 1 to 1 coaching is really effective

    Nabeya is incredibly smart, the cobra style allows her to aim the target accurately. Flexy hand makes the ball floating but the trajectory is under control. Even the jump before to serve is not too high with her hand in line with and slightly over the top of the ball to keep controlling the trajectory, but she takes a little risk when she kicks the ball pivoting her hand which makes her target unreadable, not too much strength added but she varies targets from corners to very middle between the lines, lethal weapon

Like for tennis or baseball I can 100% understand the incredible speed involved and only professionals could return those. But these "ace" serves are... so slow? Not very much power either. @@SyenPie essentially, the ball looks much different when you're actually on the court. because of how it was served, the ball has no predictable path. "slow" serves are what you'd call a floater, there's no telling where the ball may go, and it's even more challenging when it hugs the line. and the same for mens professional teams. from an audiences pov, it doesn't look like it'll be a service ace, but it's much different on the court. Hope this helped :)

    basing off of how it was described and shown in the manga, this is probably how Miya atsumu’s float serve looks like (minus the approach haha). It was kind of hard to imagine how Miya’s float serve was shown to be ‘fast’ or ‘i blinked and or was on the other side of the court’ because it’s a float serve; it floats in the air so how could it be faster than the usual float serves that it gave nishinoya a hard time? but seeing her do it is pretty cool and gives me a rough idea on how it would actually look like 😅 gg author

    • @The_Jazziest_Coffee
      @The_Jazziest_Coffee ปีที่แล้ว +18

      if i gotta guess, atsumu's float serve focuses on speed rather than precision, which sounds like a downside, until you realise he's so good with his float serve precision wise (he's shown to aim really accurately, albeit not as well as his jump serve) that his speed is his advantage
      whereas for yamaguchi's serve which focuses on precision. but ofc, i could definitely be wrong since i don't play much volleyball :d

    • @justkev1044
      @justkev1044 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What does spin have to do with speed? When it’s a top spin the ball drops fast and when it’s a bottom spin the ball remains in the air for longer. You can still do both fast, like how they do in table tennis. Only limitation there is would be the court boundaries.

    In my country we receive those high float serve with claw finger just like how u set but u need to squish the ball immediately to shoot it back to your setter or u gonna get double contact violation. For the low float forgot about cushion just dig it up control the ball with ur power instead of its speed. When u know it coming, it is much easier.
