Install new / replace change headlamp front lightbulb on Cadillac CTS...how to save MONEY! Easy DIY

  • Removing the entire front bumper is NOT required. If I can do it, you can do it! My dad joins me on this video, and this is his 2011 Cadillac CTS. Together we had the job done in just over an hour. We paid $21 for the bulb, and thus saved over three hundred dollars, since the dealership wanted $332.00 to do the job. And we had a good time doing this project together. This video will show you every step from start to finish. I hope this helps you too. I welcome your comments. Please see my other videos and subscribe to my channel. Here's a link where you can purchase the headlamp: amzn.to/2MRHryE. And purchase replacement trim fasteners here: amzn.to/2Gpghvd

    After watching your video I decided to give it a try after getting price quotes ranging from $380 to $500. I’m not a mechanic but a 64 year old woman who had my 86 year old father with dementia as an assistant. That being said I do know my way around cars. This is definitely a fiddly job that requires patience, bruises, and some colorful language to accomplish. We could have had it done in 2.5 to 3 hours but the parts store sold me the wrong bulb ( even though I had the part number.) . But I got it done and saved $320 !

We took off the headlight assembly with no ratchet set, just screwdrivers and pliers and maybe a hammer! I remember calling an autoparts store and they told me there was a special tool needed to take off my headlight assembly (had to replace the entire thing back then - a big bulb). The special tool? A pair of needle-nose pliers! We'd take off the headlight and springs and stuff would pop out at us. Different times. At the very least, we didn't have to take off the entire bumper to get to the headlights! Whew!

      @@Buckwsr Thank you for this video!! I pulled my bumper yesterday (2013 CTS4) to get to the passenger side headlight. I am so glad I had watched your video first. I do believe that next light that goes out I am going to go ahead and just get the entire assembly(s) and put those in. There were at least 5 bulbs and a lot of wiring in that headlight assembly and I am not pulling the bumper off every time one goes out. I saved $400.00 doing the job myself. I will say, the part you cut to @ 5:06 was a hard part for me. That one bolt and then those ridges required some work. Getting that bolt back in was very difficult because it goes up in 3 holes. Also, @ 7:22 I noticed that you cut out the removal of the assembly. That took me about 10 minutes. I kept trying to get it out, I went back to make sure I had the bolts out and it still would not wiggle out. I finally got it out and I heard something "snap" and I still don't know what was holding it back. But, I got it done. Thank you.

    GM should be ashamed for designing a car where the front bumper has to be removed to change a light bulb.

    I have a two-door 2011 Cadillac CTS coupe and the headlight bulbs work when they want to one day they're on one day they're off. I checked the relays are fine but a friend of mine said to replace the bulbs May fix the issue have anyone had the same problem and if so what did you do to resolve the issue.

    good video, did mine in 15 minutes each side. now i have a question? do i need to adjust the beams after placing new bulbs? and if so how do i adjust the headlights? can i do it without removing trim and bumper again? anything helps! thanks!

      I don't honestly remember any thing about adjusting the beam of the headlamps. I did not attempt that step, and I don't think it is necessary to do so.

    Why isn't anyone replacing low beam hid bulbs while the car is already apart?

    • @Buckwsr
      @Buckwsr  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't speak for anyone but myself, and in my case, my dad had only purchased the bulb that was burned out, so that's all we replaced.

    I JUST WAS TOLD THAT THE BALLAST MAY BE THE ISSUE NOT THE BULB OR THAT IT GETS BURNED OUT WHEN BULB DOES. MANY DONT REALIZE THIS

      Impossible for me to know, I'm sorry. Possibly an issue with the power locks or switches. I'm guessing it is something electrical or electronic, not an actual mechanical problem. Good luck.

    Gawd what a hassle for such a basic part. Very poor engineering. ...I've always thought that when 1 is burned out, you should change both sides because the other side probably isn't far behind. Also, it'd be tempting to just change both the low beam and the hi-beam while you have it apart. Very well done though guys! I don't own this car but a friend of mine does & he's begging me to do it for him.
