Maybe, but do you talk like one? IF not, I am not impressed.
I am kidding of course. I wish I remember the link, but there was a documentary about the making of Galaxy Quest. One part of the documentary focused on the hot termit.... I mean Thermian who had a broken translator (you know, the one who fell in love with the engineer (Monk). Apparently, when in the car the actress totally adlibbed the "YAYAYAYZA!" sound and, when interviewed, she said she regretted she didn't do it for another second or two. Interesting, fun, and useless fact.

@Jay Bond Speaking of "Monk", which was just mentioned, you might like that series. I know that you mentioned that you liked mysteries. Monk is your standard private detective show. He's a bit like Hercule Poirot, except he has EXTREME germophobia. He avoids touching things with his bare hands, etc.

    "Never give up. Never surrender."
Fun Fact: Despite frequent whining about his character Crewman Number Six being expendable and going to die, Guy Fleegman is the only crew member not to be shot and killed by Sarris during his surprise assault.
Bonus Fact: Tim Allen admitted that he was quite star-struck when he met Sigourney Weaver, as he's a huge fan of Alien (1979). Allen even got Weaver to sign some of his Alien memorabilia between takes. She ultimately did.

Brandon's mum is so supportive, her attitude reminds me of my mum's when I overheard a conversation between her and our aunts. My siblings and I grew up watching anime and never grew out of it. Our aunts thought it was childish and absurd for almost-grown adults to still watch "cartoons", and go to conventions dressed up in ridiculous costumes. Our mum told them "better that than drugs and gangs" and she had always let us pursue our hobbies as long as they don't get in the way of school.

Fred (Tony Shaloub) was originally written as a stoner. They took out most of the references to the devil's lettuce, but they decided to keep the laid back attitude.
Fun fact: the in-universe TV show had the actors throw themselves around the set while the camera operator shook the camera, just like Star Trek used to do. But the command deck set for the "real" ship was built on an enormous gimbal, and the actors were actually thrown as the entire set shook like a violent earthquake. Just one of the ways they make the "real" ship feel more viscerally realistic vs the TV show ship, just like the two aspect ratio changes (4:3 to 16:9 when the convention is revealed, then 16:9 to 2.35:1 when Tim Allen is shot back to Earth in a goo pod).
The actors and their characters are only loosely based on Star Trek. Tim Allen is Kirk/William Shatner, Alan Rickman is Spock/Leonard Nimoy, Sigourney Weaver is veeery distantly an Uhura/Nichelle Nichols expy, and casting Laredo as a child actor in the TV show era was a clear nod to Westley Crusher/Wil Wheaton from Star Trek: The Next Generation. But Tony Shaloub's character was a pure Galaxy Quest invention, and a lot of important Trek characters don't have Galaxy Quest representation.

    • @JayBondReacts
      @JayBondReacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Awesome, thanks! That makes a lot of sense for Fred. He definitely acted stoned. I can say, if I was stoned and all that was happening I'd be losing my mind. 😂

Galaxy Quest was probably the third or fourth best Star Trek movie of all time. This is said from someone who can vaguely remember some of the original broadcasts.
"Rudimentary lathe" is a direct callback to where Kirk fought the Gorn captain one on one and had to construct a rudimentary hand cannon from iron-hard bamboo, saltpeter, sulfur, and diamonds/diamond dust.

  • @ianjardine7324
    @ianjardine7324 ปีที่แล้ว +3

One of my favourite jokes you missed was Weavers role in the original was lazily written so all she did was ask the computer questions and repeat its answers. So when the thermians built the ship the computer refused to answer anyone but her making her pointless role on the TV show absolutely vital to their survival. And she keeps repeating the computer out of habit.

This movie is a wonderful homage to Star Trek but still hilarious for those of us who aren't Trekkies, tho there are plenty of inside jokes for Trekkies, like all the stuff 'Dr Lazarus' (Alan Rickman) says to 'Commander Taggert' (Tim Allen). "I see you got your shirt off." (apparently William Shatner liked to show off his body whenever possible)
At a Star Trek convention a couple years ago they had participants vote to rank all the Star Trek movies. Galaxy Quest was ranked as the 5th best Star Trek movie. The creators and stars of Star Trek love it too, and I believe it was Leonard Nemoy (not totally sure) who jokingly referred to Galaxy Quest as a 'documentary.'

@@JayBondReacts do it man. I had never watched Star Trek until about a year ago. I've now binged TOS (66-69), The Animated Series (73-75), The Next Generation (87-94), Deep Space Nine (93-99), Voyager (95-01, Enterprise (01-05), the JJ Abrams trilogy (09-16) and started Discovery (17-present), and theres more still. It was great all the way until the Trilogy in my opinion. Not that the newer stuff is bad, but it is different. So that's about 40 years of great Star Trek at least to watch. @@JayBondReacts Because most of the Star Trek series are episodic (self contained and not something that has multi episode storylines or requires you to have seen previous ones) it is entirely possible to watch a sampling of 2-4 episodes per series and then go through the movies. The reactor Primate did a version of this. I'd be happy to assemble a watch list if you care to give it a go. (I've watched them all so many times that I could probably quote them all from memory)
Or you could just follow his path. But he didn't start blending in episodes initially, so I would add a couple of 60s original series episodes to his list, especially the episode "Space Seed," which is helpful in following the films.

@@JayBondReacts The New Star Trek movies make MORE call backs to the TV series then the original movies do
      Lets see
Star Trek the Motion Picture : Plays as slow as 2001 a Space Odyssey and is a "Get the cast back together" film
Sytar Trek II by far the best one makes a call back to the TOS episode "Space Seed" but you don't need to know it to follow it
Star Trek 3 directly continues Star Trek II making past 2 required for part 3 and part 4 directly references part 3 , Part 4 is a lot of fun and has a setting and plot completely different from any other film in the franchise.
Star Trek V can mostly stand on its own but is a bit sillier then normal
Star trek VI loosely references Star Trek III but you don't need to see it to follow it. this movie sets up vital events to the rest of the franchise
Generations references some events in Star Trek the Next Generation but can be enjoyed on its own and does events vital to the rest of the franchise
First Contact refences the Episode Star Trek the Next Generation The Best of Both Worlds part 1 and 2 and heavily relies on you knowing that information
Inserection tells its own story in a different setting then normal
Nemesis sets in motion events vital to the reboots and to the rest of the franchise but otherwise can be viewed with little connection to the rest of the series even if it does reference stuff.
The Star trek Reboot references multipole original series episodes in the end credits and includes facts fans know from the 6 movies and uses information set up in nemesis
Star Trek In to Darkness repeats the plot of Star Trek II , still requires you to know Space Seed but alters the ending of the movie going in a direction Star trek II didn't go in.
Star Trek beyond is its own story that does not lean topo heavily on information from other films
The Movie Fanboys references many Star Wars films but includes super inaccurate Star Trek lore
The Movie Free Enterprise references Star Trek while being inaccurate to Star Wars
Star Wars episodes 4,5 and 6 were created to be viewed with NO other movies
however when combined with episode 1,2,3,7,8,9, Roug One and Solo and any TV shows, books or movies the experience is enriched.
star wars the force awakens does reference the old films a lot
you also have to watch all Harry Potter films in order and while Marvel films don't all need to be watched in order it is a huge help to see them all before end game.
MIB and Ghostusters and Bill and Ted all tell one good stand alone film then each follows up movies that lightly reference the other films with out needing you to know them.
MIB and Ghostbusters have light connection to there cartoons but the cartoons are changed and separate
Ghostbusters After Life does need you to have an emotional connection to the old cast where as MIB International is its own fully separate unconnected story
James Bond 007 is a massive franchise where some films connect and some films stand alone.
      Austin Powers is connected
The Planet of the apes is connected then rebooted but the reboots are connected too
the 30s,40s, 50s Monster movies some connect, some do not
Godzilla and King Kong some connect , some do not
The two Tim Burton Batman films and the 2 after them try to connect but don't really and are separate from any other shows
in fact none of the DC or Marvel movies connect to any cartoons or TV shows
Spiderman reboots every 3rd movie with no TV connection
Lego Batman and in to the Spidfervverse require you to know every thing those franchises did
Back to the future connects all 3 films kits game and Cartoon series are unconnected
the back to the future cartoon and game are separate canons
TMNT every thing all in one multiverse but seeing the others only counts if you see the crossover specials
police academy is 7 movies a TV series and cartoon with some characters who grow over time but you don't need to see them too in order.
naked gun films you should see in order as they do have character growth
gremlins has verry little connection between its two movies
Short circuit it helps to see both movies. the 3rd story is actually av very long PSA not a movie
Muppets have no continuity but the modern series does reference the 60s series a lot to create emotion
jaws tries to have continuity but I don't think its needed.
LotR you need to see every thing in order to get the full story
Cheaper by the Dozen, Nutty Professor, Dr Doolittle , Father of the Pride, Parent trap and Freaky Friday are all films with multiple reboots that are all completely different stories between each reboot
Dragon Ball Evalution, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Jem, all tell stories that are different from there source material
The Last Airbender tries to follow its cartoon series but breaks away from it a lot
scooby Doo references its old series a lot and references the fandom's reactions
      Scoob references multiple cartoon shows
Addams Family offers stories with no connection to the TV series and the live action and animation are separate stories and any Addams Family after the 2nd film is also separate
Casper, the Lego movie, UHF, Ready Player One, Space Balls, Epic Movie, Disaster movie, Scary movie, Be kind rewind, Stay Tuned , reference multiple other films in jokes
Pleasantville is about an original TV series that never existed on TV but like Galaxy Quest the characters know about the series.
The Flistones movies do not need you to know the cartoons and do a cast change in the 2nd film witch is a prequel
Night at the museum all the films reference each other and they reference art and history
Yogie Bear, Rocky and Bulwinkle, Fat Albert, Popeye, Tom and Jerry and Woody Wood Pecker do not reference there shows
Rocky you need to see all those movies in order
Space Jam is mostly about knowing Easter Eggs you don't need to know the shows
Loney Toons Back in action references a few random other films
Wizard of Oz films while trying to all be one connected story they in fact are not and you don't need to see all of them in order
Alice in Wonderland also does not require you to see the others
Jurassic Park and Jurassic world reference each other. world more then park
Deadpool reference a lot of things including other x-men films
the Jumanji films do not seem to connect to the 1st movie
MASH the movie came before the TV series so its safe
A-team is mostly its own thing
good burger stands separate from All that
Cone Heads is separate from SNL
smurfs and chipmunks are very different from there cartoons
Masters of the universe expects you to know the plot of the cartoon but uses almost NONE of the cartoons cast expecting you to enjoy new characters
transformers you have to know the cartoons and movies to follow them
Gi Joe is mostly changed from the series
Hilda's movie is strongly connected to its series
Bwitched references the series but is about actors not the series characters
rescue rangers references a TON of stuff
the MLP movies and Equestria Girls only work if you see the series 1st
inspector gadget only refences the cartoon in the end credits
Under dog does not reference the show
speed racer has show vibes but does not need you to know the show
cowboy bebop needs you to see the series
Digimon and Pokemon films work better if you know the series or games 1st
Dr Who is not canon to its tv series
Final Fantasy Spirit with in is an orginal story
Final Fantasy Advent Children needs you to know the game
Dora and the lost city of gold pokes fun of memes about the series but stands as its own thing
      '
Legend of the hidden temple needs you to know the game show
the Nick toon movies all connect to there shows
the powerpuff girls movie is an origin story you do not need the series
      dragnet is its own thing
the duck tales movie can be on its own but it does help to see the series 1st the reboot is very reference heavy
get smart refences the series a bit
      Garfield is its own thing
a lot of Disney movies based on shows or previous movies have tight continuity.
the Monty python films are all separate from the show and each other and do not reference other films but do reference history and legends.
the munsters works better if you see the show
Indiana Jones references each other a little but makes a few references to the tv show and other films in the 4th movie
monster squad has memes but no requirements
teen titans go to the movies pokes fun of DC films and behind the screens DC film facts and makes fun of Marvel
Rush Hour films and the Shang High films are well connected
The Shang High films also reference history
the Tinker Bell films do not reference Peeter Pan Hook you may need to know Peeter Pan some to follow.
Peanuts films stand alone but do have running gags.
