This series is very important to me and the medical community.
i had social anxiety first, i was alone and had financial restraints while studying abroad, i then developed depression and trichotillomania and exam burnout had me near to the tip of suicide all this while dealing with my identity as a person and a medical student.
Today I'm diagnosed with OCPD ADHD with depressive and Anxious cognitions, while being in fifth year and not knowing major subjects because of the treatments i went through just to stay sane. Many many students out there that are not privileged and really really struggle to study and remember the things to perform as a doctor.
My heart goes out to all those struggling ones. I hope we all succeed.
Dr Iyer surely u have taught us a lesson of working up against all odds.....Thanks for not giving up and thanks for such huge motivation .
Dear Dr. Seetharaman,
Quite an exemplary and inspiring story―a very real one. Honestly the story is something poignant that touches my heart and evokes emotion too.
What I have observed in the whole video is a narrative that has been wonderfully presented in a “cool as a cucumber” manner, with well composed poise, without giving into emotions, while describing the hurdles, hardships that came in the way of your pursuit.
You have exhibited the “Never say die” attitude in your quest which is just not admirable alone but also exceptional.
It’s truly heart-warming to note that you have successfully overcome every obstacle that confronted you at every step of pursuit.
That oxymoronic phrase “NICELY RUDE” to quote the senior doctor’s jibe is simply felicitous. It’s all the more commendable that the senior doctor’s quip did not sag your spirit and determination.
In the form of family, friends and well-wishers, there exists a solid structure of support system around you which is quite admirable.
I sincerely wish and would want you to keep up the fight going, through out, against the all odds getting in the way of your life.

Congrats, I’m a psychiatrist did MBBS in Madras medical and did my Residency in Psychiatry in Harvard . I thought taking .the ECFMG in Karachi since India did not have centers was a challenge, being a Tam Bram, my mother insisted on having my brother accompanying me. Your story truly inspires me. Wish you will go on to teach postgraduates who have disabilities and soon you will give a TED talk.
I come from a family of psychiatrists, my grand uncle is DR K Bhaskaran who was initially Superintendent of Ranchi Hospital for Mental diseases, DeputyDirectorGeneral of Health in Delhi was my mentor his daughter Gita is also a psychiatrist in Mumbai.
