I’ve been making “ranch” with kefir and mayo for the base. The kids love it and it’s literally the only way I can get kefir in them. It’s a little thicker, like a dip.
Thank you for the recipe! I'm pregnant with baby #4 and my go-to "clean" store bought ranch has been tasting off to me. I made this recipe and loved it! My kids and husband did, too. My oldest even asked if we could add chives to our garden this year to make it throughout the summer 😊
The other day you were talking about your kids eating veggies and ranch and I thought man I hope she makes a ranch video on farmers table and HERE WE ARE 🤣 thank you!
Love it. I've been making it at home from sour cream, salt, pepper, garlic, onion powder, dried parsley and add in some fresh chive or green onion if I have it. I skip the dill. It's delicious and doesn't have a bunch of crap in it.
Once again, thanks Jess! I make our ranch but still using the powder, so the way you do is better for my husband and me although we’re middle 70’s. It’s never too late to eat healthier.❤️🤟✝️🙏
I buy buttermilk and use an ice-cube tray to freeze it in batches. I then put the cubes in a labeled ziplock bag and I can pull out what I need for a recipe. It only takes a little while to defrost and it works great. It does lose some of the thick consistency, but has good flavor.
I use almost this exact same recipe, varying from all fresh to all dried herbs (or some mix of both) depending on the season. But I really like garlic (and onion) so I usually substitute 1-2 cloves of freshly grated or finely minced garlic instead of the powder (and also include the onion powder, plus a pinch of cayenne, too). I also made a ready-made spice mix (all dried herbs and powdered alliums) using powdered buttermilk that I gave in our Christmas baskets this past year, including instructions for how to mix it with mayo and sour cream. Seriously, any homemade salad dressing has such better, brighter flavors. But homemade ranch (especially with all fresh herbs) made it pretty much impossible for us to ever go back to the store-bought stuff!
Thanks, Jess. I've been on this crusade with my dear husband since he loves his ranch dressing. Sometimes he even eats some food with his ranch! (Well it's almost that bad!) When I suggested that we start making our own, he said, "Oh you mean we get the packet of ranch powder at the store." LOL I can't wait to start making our own, of course with real ingredients not a packet from the store!
Thank you Jess! Loving this series of videos. You have inspired me to try to get away from as much processed foods as possible. I have never made my own Mayo…I had no idea it was so easy. Will also start making my own Ranch. I recently started reading the book “Nourishing Traditions” by Sally Fallon. It’s no wonder there is so much illness with all the things you can’t even pronounce in our food + high fructose corn syrup is in EVERYTHING.
Thanks Jess, these videos are exactly what I need for understanding Farm to Table. Growing my 2nd "real" garden this year. It gives me ideas on what i want to grow too. ❤
Love both your channels, can only imagine how busy your life in the farm is, the boys schooling and looming graduation. Take care and we will, all be here when you return .
I keep coming back to this video because ranch is life for my husband and boys. I knew yours would be yummy, and I was right! Adding it to my recipe cards so I’m never without it. :) thanks!
Thanks Jess!! I'm living in Portugal and I haven't found any ranch dressing here. Can't wait to try this on our lettuce, using our eggs for the mayonaise part and our fresh chives. We've got Aldi here and I can get sour cream there.
Hi Jess I'm in England and I'm so glad I've found your channel it's so good to see traditional U.S recipes so easily explained and accessible. This is a classic example. Thank you so much 😊 x
I love this video series showcasing your cooking & recipies! Ranch is my favorite dressing and knowing how to make it "fresh" is great! I can't wait to see all the future videos cooking food from the garden. I loved when you cooked & shared recipes in Roots and Refuge. Gonna be a good veggie season :) Thanks Jess! 🌟🌟🌟
Love this! Thank you for a quick and easy recipe! I have many food allergies and being able to make my own from scratch will allow me to eat some of the things I love again! Bless you Jess ❤
I made ranch dressing for my step kids for the first time last week and they loved it. Major points for stepmom! I will use your recipe next time I do it! ❤
Love, love, love your content! You are teaching me how to cook! I’d love to see a video on how to cut a whole chicken. Both carving after roasted and how to butcher it raw. Thank you for all you do!
I just made this last night to have for our Easter garden salads. I did use Dukes Mayo (hope to try making that next) and OMG it’s delicious! It really is just like a good steakhouse restaurant ranch. Thank you!! Going to keep this on hand all the time!
I just made this and it is the best ranch dressing!! So fresh. Thanks for making these videos Jess. I am definitely becoming a better cook. I look forward to more to come with all the fresh produce!
As a child I hated all dressings, just ate my salads plain, but as a teenager I traveled a lot around the USA and found some dressings I love. Ranch is one of them. I always have homemixed dry ranch seasoning in my cupboard nowadays. Besides using it as salad dressing, I use ranch dressing for enchiladas. Mix ranch and salsa 1:1 and use that as the sauce. Even my daughter who can be fussy about sauces loves these.
I just made this with your Mayo recipe and this is hands down the BEST ranch recipe I have found and I’ve tried a lot of them looking for the perfect one. Thank you Jess!!
Thx v much Jess. As an Aussie I had no clue what Ranch was. See it in many recipes n see peeps speaking about it like it's a forgone conclusion that everyone knows about it. Told myself to investigate it but never have. Now I know n I'm excited. Well done ....u can add mind reader to yr extensive CV. ❤❤❤❤❤
Jess - Thank Yu so much!!! I put Ranch dressing on my 5 minute Farmers Table shorts suggestions and what do you know, up it pops!! Again, thank you, thank you!
I learned to make butter from one of your videos, and since not knowing what to do with the buttermilk at the time, I froze it, just to see if it would work - it does!! So I always have a couple portions of buttermilk in my freezer!
I love adding fresh black pepper and a very small clove of fresh garlic to mine. I'm definitely going to look into buttermilk powder, thanks for the tip!
I would also love to see videos on making homemade spaghetti sauce AND which tomatoes to grow that are best for sauce and tomato paste. I saw your video on kale chips, other healthy snacks outside of fresh fruit and veggies, those are seasonal.
Jess, just my experience for what it's worth, store bought buttermilk (the higher fat content variety) lasts me MORE than 6 months in the frig... I don't pay much attention to some expiration dates and buttermilk is one of those. The nose knows when it turns sour. that said, I am very careful not to introduce any possible contaminants from my hands or any utensils to the container and the lid. YMMV but I am sure your nose will know just like mine..
I make yogurt in my instant pot and strain it to make it thick. Then I use that multi-purpose for yogurt, sour cream, and then add some seasonings to it and water it down with milk or water to make ranch.
I saw your video on traditionally made biscuits, but I'd love to see your food processor biscuits too, which you mentioned that you usually make. Thank you!
Amazing recipe. Thank you for sharing. Tasty! The first time I made it I accidentally added too much garlic powder. Double 😅 was still really good. Vampires won’t bug me.
I would love to see a video on homemade cream soups i.e. cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, cream of celery, etc. 😊
I second this!
Mary’s Nest has some good videos on this 😊
So does @homesteadingwiththezimmermans
@@karabrown5077Yes, I would love to see this, too.
Yes, please!
As a Brit watching, that was informative, because I've never had the slightest clue what Ranch Dressing has in it. Today I learned 😀
Ranch over here is called garlic and herb most of the time....like the dipping sauces you get with pizzas. That's just ranch dressing!
I've just said the same thing 😁 isn't she great!
As an Aussie I was the same about the ingredients 😊
@@MrsBrit1 My Son would have that drip fed lol
I’ve been making “ranch” with kefir and mayo for the base. The kids love it and it’s literally the only way I can get kefir in them. It’s a little thicker, like a dip.
Oh I love this idea!!
recipe with ratio of kefir to mayo?
@@MaryLouHeskje I don’t have a real recipe. It’s 1:1 kefir and mayo and I’ve been using homemade dry ranch seasoning, about TBS per cup of kefir/mayo.
Thank you for the recipe! I'm pregnant with baby #4 and my go-to "clean" store bought ranch has been tasting off to me. I made this recipe and loved it! My kids and husband did, too. My oldest even asked if we could add chives to our garden this year to make it throughout the summer 😊
Idea for a short video - Maybe show folks how easy it is to make sausage gravy for their homemade biscuits!
Yes! Such an easy delicious dish!😊
Perfect timing! I told myself last weekend that I’m not buying ranch anymore and have to learn to make it myself. Thank you!
Same here!!!
Same! My favorite ranch is refrigerated and it was gone at store. ❤
The other day you were talking about your kids eating veggies and ranch and I thought man I hope she makes a ranch video on farmers table and HERE WE ARE 🤣 thank you!

Most everyone likes ranch. Enjoyed the mayo. My first ever comment. I don't comment on videos. Been watching since you were in Arkansas.
One of our favorites! I'm anxiously waiting for your chili crunch recipe! ❤
I buy buttermilk and use an ice-cube tray to freeze it in batches. I then put the cubes in a labeled ziplock bag and I can pull out what I need for a recipe. It only takes a little while to defrost and it works great. It does lose some of the thick consistency, but has good flavor.
Love that you have videos for homemade mayo and now ranch! Woohoo 😋
Thank-you
Cream soup recipes would be great in the fall if you have some good ones to share
Love these short informative videos❤
Nice! This was a really helpful video for me. I bought some buttermilk powder recently and almost forgot I had it. I will be using it for this recipe.

Love these!!! I’ve been wanting to make more of the items we typically purchase. Starting with small simple swaps. Thanks for reading my mind!

And the hits keep coming...good one!
I love these types of videos with simple household items. Thank u jess❤
Western NY coming to the party… I’ll take a No Thank You on the ranch but if you can come off with a blue cheese dressing, that’s where it’s at.
Great video! And I love that this builds on the homemade mayo as well.
I keep coming back to this video because ranch is life for my husband and boys. I knew yours would be yummy, and I was right! Adding it to my recipe cards so I’m never without it. :) thanks!
I often substitute kefir for buttermilk.
Thank you for making this so EASY to print 😊❤🎉
Thank you, Jess!! I'm excited to make this tomorrow, and I also caught your video on mayonaisse, and have made that already--soooo good!

Thank you! My kids love ranch and I despise buying it in the store. I will be trying this recipe.
Love it. When ranch dressing has dill it’s the very best
Thank you, again, Jess! Loving these shorts. But then, I love all your videos. :)
Jess have you ever kept the leftover liquid from making butter and cultured it on the counter? That's what we use as buttermilk
right? Make cheese, sourdough culture, butter and yogurt but not buttermilk?
This is the recipe we use as well. It’s so,so good. Try it and you’ll never go back to Hidden Valley😊
I just made this with your Mayo recipe and this is hands down the BEST ranch recipe I have found and I’ve tried a lot of them looking for the perfect one. Thank you Jess!!

I call store bought Ranch.. "Mystery Dressing" because whats in it is always a surprise lol
Thank you Jess for this short videos very helpful .

Great video to teach. I make gallons of this at work, I think folks drink it like a beverage. lol
are you kidding me?! that's ALL the ingredients!! Wow, thank you, Jess.
I always make my own dressings and marinades. I don’t want all that stuff on my salads! Love your channel Jess!
I really appreciate this recipe, and the way you cook/measure (just like I do!)😆 Love your channel, keep going!
I would love to see a handful of dressing recipes in one video. Trying to get away from store-bought.
I love adding fresh black pepper and a very small clove of fresh garlic to mine. I'm definitely going to look into buttermilk powder, thanks for the tip!
How about a video on from-scratch egg noodles? Including how to preserve/dry them?
I can cover this at some point but Ruth Ann Zimmerman just did a video about this if you look up her channel!
Yes! Egg noodles are so so simple I even covered this on my channel ❤

Re: Buttermilk. I recently learned that you can freeze leftover buttermilk. This is a game-changer for making my homemade Miss Helen's Bisquits.
For the buttermilk could you use the milk that’s left after making butter
Thank you for the recipe!!
Love these sorts of videos!
Love these Jess! Can you make one for bread machine recipe? I never have time to do it by hand, and I don’t know how to use my bread machine!
I saw your video on traditionally made biscuits, but I'd love to see your food processor biscuits too, which you mentioned that you usually make. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing with us. You are awesome
Amazing recipe. Thank you for sharing. Tasty! The first time I made it I accidentally added too much garlic powder. Double 😅 was still really good. Vampires won’t bug me.
Hi Jess. Could you make a video on how you make your chili crisp please. Thank you and God bless
Delicious! The family gives it a thumbs up.
This is great to learn. Thanks.
I would love a video on how you made your garlic powder.
