Hey Jess! You'll probably never see this, but discovering Roots and Refuge Farm and then this channel literally changed my life. You sparked such a passion for growing and canning food that I never knew I had! I even dreamt I met you last night and woke up so excited! Lol. 😅. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart!
So sweet. I discovered Jess a little over 4 years ago - and even though I’m an avid urban gardener but not a proper homesteader- the video that captured my attention was a goat birthing video - I loved her accessible honest telling of the experience- then I found her a resource for large scale garden trellises (and all things food growing) - and - well - I’m still here. I get it. Solidly Team Jess (and family). 🤍
Hi Jess, my husband is carnivore and sometimes I don't care for what he is eating like tonight. He was making a hamburger soup and I made your tomato soup. If was delicious! Thanks for the recipe.
😂salt an pepper.. always amazed at people who leaves comments saying What content creator did wrong 😂😂they need to make a channel called WHAT THEY DID WRONG 😂😂😂
Yes to the canned coconut cream! I also like to buy the bulk Thai Kitchens canned coconut milk (from Costco) and it's really good too. I put the cans in the fridge to solidify the coconut cream, and then open them from the bottom to pour out the water. I add it to my curry dishes, marinara sauce for cream spaghetti, and soups. I'm allergic to milk, and canned coconut cream is my go-to dairy alternative in recipes. 🖖❤
Do I Like tomato soup, homade or otherwise... No Did I watch this entire video salivating... possibly Am I going to find out who in my local friends group likes tomato soup so I can make this... 100% Yes 😂
Oh wow, you and Brenda Gantt both posted a tomato soup recipe at almost the same time this morning. I love a good tomato soup in the cold winter. Now I have 2 delicious and very different variations, both look delicious! ❤
I do not know Denise. Would you please send me the info I love tomato soup. I would add hot sauce for taste. My mom did this to most foods. Didn't make it hot just tasty. Thank you Michigan
Sweet Jess, your tomato soup looks delicious. I remember when we were kids brand named tomato soup, and grilled cheese was a typical lunch. Now that were OLD, the traditional canned soup, taste is not the same. We prefer freshly made soup from our own tomatoes. I'm with you on the salt 😊. We use more salt from Redmond Real Salt which contain natural minerals, and is better for our body
Your recipe is a lot easier than mine, which involves roasting the tomatoes. Not exactly fun in the summer, but I freeze it and when I eat it in the fall and winter, it tastes great. Thanks for a simpler version, Jess!
I do the same! I throw some rough chopped onions and peeled whole garlic cloves onto the sheet pan with the tomatoes and roast them all together then freeze. I also add a few spoonfuls of pesto when I make the soup.
I made this for the first time tonight from freeze dried tomatoes I had saved from my summer garden. It turned out so good that even my non-veggie eating son gobbled it up. Thanks for sharing.
I made the bread yesterday! Wow. I served it with a veggie soup at dinner, and the first loaf is gone. My 16 yr old came home from school and said she wanted the bread! This soup looks delicious. I will give it a try for my lunch.
I love to see the different variations of this soup. I like to either add 2 table spoons of orange juice or a handful of carrots for the subtle sweetness! Happy soul season❤
I don't do creamed Tomato as such, but I do a chunky tomato with paprika, turmeric, and sometimes add cream cheese for that extra creaminess. As for salt- I was brought up with it drilled into me that we should use as little salt as possible. Except that amongst my many qualifications I have crossing nutrition for Humans and Animals, especially in sports science, so I learned how vital it really is. Most especially for me, because I suffer with permanent chronic migraines, and bi-lateral trigeminal neuralgia. If I don't have enough balanced salt in my diet, I'm in excruciating pain. It is amazing how our taste for it can change with our need.
So many young people were raised under the false belief that salt is bad and causes water retention and high blood pressure. Salt is necessary but added or excess sugar in your diet causes the body to retain water. Removing sugar allows your body to act naturally and eliminates excess salt in our urine.
I also grew up in a low salt household (but rightfully so as my dad struggles with high blood pressure and so we did it for his safety) Since being diagnosed with POTS I've had to really re-adjust my cooking to include a lot more salt in my diet haha! My cardiologists was like yup, you need to double your salt intake and double your water intake, if I'm not conscious about getting enough salt I definitely feel it!
Hi Jessica, I finally, today, made your lovely cream of tomato soup. I'm very pleased with how delicious this was. Bless you too for your kindness, Liz
I'm a gardener, canner and empty nester Momma. I say all that because I haven't canned or made home made tomato soup since the kiddos left our home 15 yrs ago. Wowza! I still can whole tomatoes and sauce if I'm able. I'm going to make your tomato soup tomorrow with my canned tomato sauce. Since it's not a thick sauce I'm going to add some tomato powder I make from the "I can't can anymore tomatoes!" that I put in the freezer and dehydrate in October when I have more time. I know it's gonna be sooo delishious Jess! Thank you for the recipe and the inspiration! Big Hugs P.S. What size pot did you use in the video? Thanks
Don’t get me wrong I am hooked on your posts period but not being a Gardner but I am a home cook. I love this program with you are in the kitchen I love watching you fixing a meal. Keep both going. ❣️
Glad to see you’re switching things up a bit. Homemade tomato soup is one of those things that people can add all kinds of flavors to. My 8 yr old grandaughter loves to make creamy tomato soup with noodles. That’s how easy it is to make. We add cream to ours.
This is really enticing me to put 1 tomato plant in my little fenced in rectangle back yard...my bones dont like tomatoes but my dayghter enjoys a good tomato soup ...🎉❤
Looks perfectly delicious. 😋 I make a super simple tomato soup: chunk up tomatoes, onion & garlic. Toss will EVOO, S&P, Spread on rimed baking sheet. Roast. Pour everything into a blender & add basil…and that’s it!!! 🤩
Thanks for a wonderful recipe for tomato soup. I’ll have to give it a try and make a little twist for my own. I still have tomatoes on my vines in California so I’ll go out and pick some fresh tomatoes off the vine and make my tomato soup tomorrow. Thanks so much my dear friend for a wonderful video and some great inspiration for tomato soup.
Hi Jess, I love your cooking style and your down to earth recipes. Here is a tip I learned to make diary free creamy tomato soup. Take a couple slices of bread (gluten-free bread works here, too), cut the crust off, dice it up, and put it in the soup. When you blend it, it thickens right up. I am also gluten and dairy free, and this was a game changer for me. My hubby said he couldn't tell it didn't have cream in it. If you have a gluten-free bread recipe, I'd love to see it 😊.
This was the first recipe I tried using my own canned tomatoes! It's delicious. Where are all the dirty dishes? I have almost no clean up to do. Amazing, thank you!
Man do I LOVE this channel!!! So so helpful!!! Why at my age have I never thought one could make ur own tomato soup is ridiculous!! Ironically I canned tomato soup for the first time and ate it yesterday, delicious
Thank you for the non dairy option, I’m lactose intolerant. The canned tomato soup in the stores all have bioengineered food ingredients in them from what I’ve found so I haven’t eaten them in a very long time. This looks like a yummy recipe.
Jess, I’ve been following roots & refuge some time, I love this new channel. Made this soup today to break in my new cast iron Dutch oven. Thanks for the inspiration 🫶🏼🫶🏼
I just made a roasted tomato basil soup last night 😋 Todd loves to dip grown up grilled cheese in it (grilled cheese with caramelized onions, bacon and gouda!)
Soup is always wonderful in the cold months , if you want to jazz it up a little with some home grown pepper ,it adds a little sweetness too. I love my canned tomatoes just heated up right out of the jar on occasion , with a little butter s & p and a pinch of hot pepper .. it is a small addiction ..lol
Caution with the coconut milk and cream. Some people are allergic, like peanuts, but don’t know they are until they start consuming high quantities in their diet. Coconut milk and coconut oil seem to be in everything theses days. Thank you for offering a basic recipe anyone can make and adjust to their preferences. 😋 😋 😋 squash soup and carrot soup are also great cold weather meals.
for non-dairy you can also do cashew cream. soak about a cup of cashews overnight, drain, rinse, and blend in food processor or blender with water until you get the desired consistency. the acidity of the tomatoes should cut through the cashew flavor just enough to make it less noticeable.
Yummy! I did spend a day this past summer canning tomato soup for the first time...not gonna happen again. This looks like a much better tasting option, and I always have canned tomatoes on hand! Blessings, Marie
I made and canned Roasted Tomato Soup with tomatoes from the garden. So so delicious! I will havevto try spicing it up just a little fir my hubby. He might like that.
I've found in the stores recently that countrycrock started making plant based heavy whipping cream! I haven't tried it in my tom. Soup yet but it's been great in all my other dishes!!!
Thanks so much for another great soup recipe and sharing what you can put together for very little money and still taste wonderful getting out there picking those last few tomatoes off the tomato plants from our garden. A wonderful inspirational video. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
I just used the last of the fresh tomatoes to make soup and grilled cheese also. I Like a recipe for tomato-orange soup from Elephant’s delicatessen. Around 28 ounces tomatoes, 1/2 a stick of butter, salt, pepper, thyme, 1/4 c onion, 1c orange juice, and I use 1/2 c coconut milk in place of the cream. Blend until smooth. Tangy and delicious.
Tomato is the only soup I make from scratch. I add carrot for sweetness. The best tomato soup I ever had was in SF at the sustainable cafe in the redwoods. :)
I made tomato soup for the first time in august and have been making it once every 2 weeks since . I usually roast the tomatoes, peppers, onions and garlic. Yes, it's so simple .
My friend just gave me 25 pound box of tomatoes. I have 18 pounds in my roasters and the rest I'm readying for roasted tomato soup with roasted garlic and my fresh basil. Yummy
I agree with the recommendation of coconut milk for a non-dairy option. I always buy coconut milk and give the can a shake in the store. If it doesn't shake it is a thick coconut milk.
I started following for your great gardening videos and now you have food too! Love this! I also make tomato soup. The recipe calls for tofu but I substituted with a few dollops of sour cream for my dairy ingredient.
Hey Jess! I LOVE that you shared how to make it dairy free. Two of my children and myself are all dairy protein allergic and it is a great help hearing those dairy free suggestions! I find parsley blended with a little water, made into cubes in an ice cube tray give you a more natural flavor, I blend my basil with olive oil before freezing. I also do celery, it’s so easy to add to a pot of soup. I am not a fan of dried herbs.
Roasted red peppers, tomatoes and smoked paprika! 😛😛😛 so many different options! Creamy tomato basil is also fantastic! Yummm! I love how you do a basic recipe that allows for so many alternatives. ❤
I just got done watching a video about starting tomato seeds from your channel from a few years back and this video now is what was on my feed when I got done 🫶🏽 Love a day full of R&R while I do house wife things 😊
Lmao at Jess saying I ain’t telling you what to do with your salt and pepper I don’t know you like that 😂
That’s a T-shirt for sure!
Yes!! I’d love this as a sticker too!!
That was great. 😅 love it
Best part of the video!!!😂
Hey Jess! You'll probably never see this, but discovering Roots and Refuge Farm and then this channel literally changed my life. I enjoy homemade, garden fresh tomato soup. I even dehydrated some. Yummy thanks for sharing. I'll make some for tomorrow's lunch 😋
I had a dream that I met her also.
Hi Jess, my husband is carnivore and sometimes I don't care for what he is eating like tonight. He was making a hamburger soup and I made your tomato soup. If was delicious! Thanks for the recipe.
in the summer nothing better then a gaspacho!!
My favorite non dairy creaminess add in is a can of white beans that gets blended in. Does the job and adds some nutrients as well :)
Some extra protein as well. Nice one!!
I never knew how good tomato soup could be until I made it fresh from the garden. A favorite for my husband and I. ❤
😂salt an pepper.. always amazed at people who leaves comments saying What content creator did wrong 😂😂they need to make a channel called WHAT THEY DID WRONG 😂😂😂
We made this tonight and used sour cream at the table instead of any cream on the stove. Let the dairy free family opt out. Delicious!

Coconut cream without the water, you can whip into whipping cream. I'm vegan. GOD BLESS YOU.

Guuurrrlll! I am loving your new channel! These recipes are giving me life.❤
That is music to my ears!
This is the first time in my life that tomato soup has sounded appealing ... and I love tomatoes! Thank you!

Where did you get the small wooden cutting board? I love the size of it
❤😊
So glad I found you. (Thank you, Gold Shaw Farm)
Looks so yummy. I'm also from the south and I agree with the salt and pepper!
Jess you are spot on. Us southerners salt our food with our heart and measure seasonings with our eyes and soul 😂
Lol, my Azure Cuttoff is today. Just added tomatoes and coconut cream. Can't wait to try this!
Just made this for a cozy dinner! So good Jess!!!!!!!!
I have been a R&R fan for a while, and I really loving this channel! Thanks Jess!
I have done your roasted tomato version and it's my go to!
That soup looks absolutely scrumptious Jess! I always add milk or cream to my tomato soup.
My friend just gave me 25 pound box of tomatoes. I have 18 pounds in my roasters and the rest I'm readying for roasted tomato soup with roasted garlic and my fresh basil. Yummy
Yesss! We measure salt with our hearts! 😆🥰❤️ I LOVE IT! So glad I followed you!
Wonderful, yummy looking soup; thanks for sharing! Blessings to all 🤗💕🇨🇦
I agree with the recommendation of coconut milk for a non-dairy option. I always buy coconut milk and give the can a shake in the store. If it doesn't shake it is a thick coconut milk.
I will definitely try this! Sounds delicious!!
Yummy, definitely gonna try this recipe this week.
Excellent job,, love it with paprika too id imagine.I want to learn to can like that tomato jar.
I started following for your great gardening videos and now you have food too! Love this! I also make tomato soup. The recipe calls for tofu but I substituted with a few dollops of sour cream for my dairy ingredient.
Yum...it looks delicious. I will definitely be making it. I am from tge north and yes we salt and pepper everything too
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe.😊
Sounds great. Thanks for not making this complicated!
thanks Jess!! You certainly make this easy for me to replicate.
Thank you, Jess❤
I love tomato soup but i have never made my own. I know what i am doing this weekend.
Hey Jess! I LOVE that you shared how to make it dairy free. Two of my children and myself are all dairy protein allergic and it is a great help hearing those dairy free suggestions! I got into more cooking from scratch when I became dairy allergic and then when two of my 4 kids were also it just made sense to homestead and cook from scratch to keep as many preservatives out of our food as possible. Now it is my cottage business as well that I call "The Dairy Free Farmer"
I find parsley blended with a little water, made into cubes in an ice cube tray give you a more natural flavor, I blend my basil with olive oil before freezing. I also do celery, it’s so easy to add to a pot of soup. I am not a fan of dried herbs.
You’re my kind of cook! Love this new channel Jess. Good on you.
Roasted red peppers, tomatoes and smoked paprika! 😛😛😛 so many different options! Creamy tomato basil is also fantastic! Yummm! I love how you do a basic recipe that allows for so many alternatives. ❤
I just got done watching a video about starting tomato seeds from your channel from a few years back and this video now is what was on my feed when I got done 🫶🏽
Love a day full of R&R while I do house wife things 😊
