I agree that latex inner tubes are a big improvement for the price. I don't know why they aren't more popular.

Maybe the inconvenience of pumping them more regularly and the slightly increased price over normal tubes?

@@reginaldscot165 I would like a latex tube on my racing bike, but I wouldn't tour or commute on it. Yes it is inconvenient that I have to pump it every day. I am very happy with Ride Now TPU tubes because they are half the weight of latex, and the pressure lasts few days. Both tubes are far more superior than tubeless which should never be used on road bikes!

6.6kg!! That's impressive mate. The bike is a dream bike. I totally get it. I borrowed a Ti bike for a weekend once, and loved it. It had a Sram Force gruppo, which I'd never ridden before. Ever since, I've sworn to buy a Ti frame. Still haven't done it, because I'm a dickhead. Gone through 3 carbon bikes since.

You need to swap out that seat post clamp for a Titanium one. Not so much for weight savings but with the Ti clamp the seat post blends right into the frame and makes it look like an integrated seat mast for a nice clean (cool) look. I have used the Ti skewers for thousands of miles without any issue. It all comes down to rider weight. You don't appear to be more than 70kg and should have absolutely nothing to worry about

So far I am very happy with it, but I am could imagine it would be dodgy on disk brake bikes, in fact, unusable. I got myself a used Scott road bike (aluminum) Speedster
And I predominantly ride my Trek SS 29er for almost 9 years now...
Trek (Fary Fisher) is 11kg,and the road bike is 7.9kg! Even lighter when I converted it to the SS 😅 I honestly don't need any gearing, where I live, and the maintenance is almost down to zero!
    What did I discovered?
Road bike is only slightly faster, sometimes...
When I speed up my 29er,that thing just goes! No nervous twitchy behavior,no watching if i possibly hit a road bump,or small holes, anything that might make me crash,on my road bikes! (Not so much on my old Columbus SL steel bike)
I still prefer to ride my heavish Trek 29er...
    The reason?
The bike is only slightly less agile and speedy, but the comfort, the position, the bump absorption, well, pretty much everything,is on the 29er side!
I can ride that thing EVERYWHERE, while my road bikes,I can only ride on the road, and to be brutally honest, the ride, compared to the big tires bike,is just so much inferior!
    Disclaimer:
I'm on the bikes,my entire life,I never owned a car, only bunch of pretty much budget,or slightly better than the budget bicycles! I'm 39, pushing towards 40,and my body is definitely not the same it was,10 years ago..😅
My dream... Very light SS 29er,if I somehow save up for one...
Still love to ride my steel road bike,my alu bikes, but my Gary Fisher 29er,is just so much more practical! Greetings from Croatia from Kris 😎

Ever since, I try to only buy cages with claims of good retention. Arundel Mandible, check. Silca Titanium, check. Both are quite expensive, and not the absolute lightest, but give me confidence about not losing another bottle... which as you know can eliminate your hydration and devastate a ride. Anywho... Awesome build. I switched to Sram when 11 speed was released 2012? or so and never looked back. Completely disagree with your opinion on Shimano's smoothness, but, your opinion your experience etc etc. Sram's shifting and drivetrain snappiness is miles ahead of Shimano's mush. Always feels fresh and crisp when shifting, if you preload the paddle before shifting it's a whole different ball game. Give it a month or two of riding and then switch to Shimano to see the difference. Sram's setup will bed in within 150-200 miles because Sram uses stronger derailleur springs (cables stretch, housing compresses, drivetrain wears in together cassette/chain/chainrings) a tuneup will sort that and the noise, after which it usually lasts for the rest of the season. Not sure which cassette you're using but a 105 5800 11-32 cassette weighs the same as an 1170 (Force) cassette and it's half the price. Dura Ace 9100 steel skewers, nothing less.

Hello and thank you for your great comment!
I’m sure as I continue to use SRAM I will find out all it’s pros and cons that I am currently unaware of. However when I say shimano has good or smoother shifting I am perhaps remembering my lovely 10 speed ultegra 6600 group set. To this day after 17 years it’s still the best shifting set I’ve ever used. I have let many people ride that bike with that group set and they all say the same thing. But the more recent shimano stuff has definitely dropped in quality that’s for sure. Probably because they expect to switch to E-shifting. Yuck.
I ride a shimano bike and now a sram bike in tandem so it should be an interesting comparison over time. Currently on 2 bikes I have an ultegra 6800 and ultegra 6600 both using ultra cassettes and this bike with Srame red cassette to answer your question.

Nice build! Bikes don't.get.much more desirable than this. I love how the shaped top tube catches the light. I'm concerned about the hollow Ti Seat clamp.bolt though. It isn't as strong as.the original and if It breaks, hou might crash and you'll definately scratch that beautiful Ti post. Same story with the skewers. Cheap/light /strong, pick 2. Bot worth the risk. Stay safe

      @reginaldscot165  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you kindly! Yes the top tube is lovely, it’s made of 6/4 titanium and it’s super thin and super strong!
The bolt should be fine, it’s been in the bike for years and it’s only tightened to 4 Nm of Torque so it’s far from its max limit. (I believe the website says 15 Nm is max) and don’t worry about the titanium seatpost, the wonderful thing about titanium is it’s very easy to polish scratches out! Check out my video on cleaning titanium bikes for more information. 🙂👍🏻

Reginald, would you comment on what size (measured) tires this frame can accommodate? I remember you saying that you run 23mm for races and 25mm for daily rides but I'd like to know if the 25mm tires that you use measure wider. I'd like one of these frames but want to run 25mm tires on wheels with an internal diameter or 21mm and that will widen the tires to at least 28mm. Do you think they will fit with good clearance?

At best it’s second best. 😉
The helix 🧬 has a twisted top tube, I can’t remember if it’s clockwise or anti-clockwise but basic engineering principles dictate that the bike will be more likely to twist in one direction, because of that asymmetric top tube. That’s going to make sprinting and climbing out the saddle feel uneven.
