"Not fair": Man gets $2,900 parking ticket after getting stuck in BC parkade

- A Vancouver man is calling foul after he was issued a $2,900 ticket for allegedly damaging the gate arm of a mall parkade - something he insists he didn’t do.
Philipp Postrehovsky was taking his children to a weekly gymnastics class on March 11 and pulling into the Precise ParkLink lot at City Square Mall when he said the gate arm refused to lift for the cars trying to enter.
That’s when he pushed an assistance button, no one answered and, with a little one in need of the bathroom, he decided to try to lift the arm.
Postrehovsky said both the ticket and the time given to pay it are “not fair” and “unreasonable.”

Those privately operated parking lots are criminal at best.

You can ignore it. Private lots can't get your info from the govt, and it would cost too much to track you down and try and collect, so those private tickets are really ever only paid by the uneducated who don't know those tickets have no legal weight.
Just don't pay the bill until they provide a copy of the video.
I going to guess the owners of the company are some real classy people.
Forcible confinement...Can't kidnap a family...If they are trapped, they can use whatever force is necessary to regain their freedom.

It's only confinement if you have no way to leave. They could leave the car, ergo they were not confined.
I still am questioning if he really did damage the gate. He should bring this to court and demand a technical report documenting/assessing the damage. If it was working properly afterward then this could be a questionable claim. Like they need proof. They can't just say "Oh you touched the gate now you need to pay $3k".

I never pay parkade tickets or fines, they're independent companies that can't hold your insurance or license renewal hostage, so I just ignore their letters and block their phone calls. Periodically get new license plates if you're owing a lot though, because they'll tow your vehicle if they come across it in their lot again later on.
Yep my ex did that she owed thousands & never paid a dime lmao. Eventually her car got repoed she didn’t pay the bank loan either hahaha 🤣 .
@Yuri she did & you do get away without paying the independent parkade companies & as long as you have a different plate they cant do nothing when parking in there lots. Not paying the bank however has a downfall , she’s lost her credit and can’t get anymore money from financial institutions. I know that’s had a negative affect on her life . I would recommend paying bank loans and credit cards back but not them independent parkade companies 😂
100% true. There is NOTHING they can do to try to get your money. Private companies can't do squat to you.
However a ticket that is given by government authorities like city bylaws or certainly police, MUST be paid, at least if you want to get your license renewed.
@@SkepticalChris if you park in one of their lots with outstanding tickets you can absolutely get towed. You just need to be on top of changing your plates and you're good.
I used to park free all day downtown and change my plates every single time I got a ticket, as it was cheaper to change plates than pay for all day parking.
That the company won’t share the video tells you the company is just trying to steal $2906.
Sue me. Next time ill hook my tow strap to the gate, and it wont be there any longer.

Fun fact, don't have to pay fines in privately operated lots, just don't park there again and there's nothing they can do, won't show up on your record. I've never paid a private ticket in my life.
Fight it or pass it on to collections... When collections call you offer $250 or less. Anything that goes to collections other than the government is negotiable

If it is a private ticket then just do not pay it. Unlike a city issued ticket there is not much a private issuer can do. The private ticket will not even show up on a credit report.

3k is probably the amount for the repair of the equipment. He should’ve taken a video of it first before moving.
Once they’ve turned you over to a collections agency it’s pretty much game over…… ruins your credit score.
Yeah he shouldn't have touched the barrier and let security lift it for him.
When you have a kid needing the bathroom, time is critical. Waiting for security to show up isn’t going to work.
The device may have simply malfunctioned due to a bug or glitch. But when he forcefully pushed the arm upwards he probably broke the mechanism. That's why he got a big repair bill. Also you want to discourage others from thinking they can skip out of their parking bill simply but pushing the arm up and driving through.
Just cause it isn't working doesn't mean you can break it more without repercussions...did he press the help button?
