I am 63 years old Texan...been frying fish over 40 years.... this has changed my fish frying FOREVER ! WOW, I followed the recipe, more or less, used fresh fine grated parmesan cheese but about 1/2 as much... I put it on water moistened, butterflied gulf jumbo shrimp. I then made a VERY THIN milk / egg wash and dipped them in that, then smashed them into Panko bread crumbs. Let 'em dry. Quick fried the shrimp in peanut oil 1 -1.5 minutes. WOW was it good !! THANKS !!

My family is extremely picky. Had them watch this video together and they all agreed they'd try it if I made it. Thank you!! They loved it. I used Cod and cut into the same smaller pieces you did, just in case they didn't like it they would not waste a whole piece of fish. Adding this recipe to our menu!

Excited to try this! My cousin in Ohio blessed us with 3 qt bags of walleye he caught on lake Erie. I've used 2 bags, 1 oven baked , 1 grilled in a foil pack and I have 1 left that my husband wants me to do a fish fry with. So excited to try it cause as soon as I saw you add the Parmesan I knew this was a winner. Thanks for sharing!! 😊

Why did Noah not bother fishing when he was on the Ark?
Because he only had 2 worms to use as bait.
Too bad for that because he would have loved this fish fry.
Love this simplicity approach and how to, these are the best kinds of recipes! & tasty too!

I didn't think twice about the cheese until reading the comments. I've been experimenting with different options, and for a dry breading, I think this is now my go to. People, don't worry about the cheese comments, it's good, it doesn't taste cheesy, it's not weird, I'd have to try it without the cheese to see what difference the cheese makes. What I do love is the addition of the cornmeal, that's new for me and a nice touch. Highly recommend. I may try to add Cajun spices instead of the spices here just for a Cajun version. Thank you for the video and recipe. Ate some lake erie perch tonight. Cheers from 🇨🇦

Really go by color rather than time. If you have the oil at 350-375 degrees it browns fairly quickly. Thicker pieces take longer.

This looks to be a really good recipe .... But I believe one or two tweaks could as EMERIL SAYS ,
" KICK IT UP A NOTCH "... Instead of adding Cornmeal , add equivalent of BACON Flavored PANKO CRUMBS .....& MAYBE a Tsp of Powdered Cayenne or a Tsp of Sciraccha for a small kick..... Otherwise , YES you do have a good Fish Fry recipe there 🐟🐟🐟👍👍👍

Way too much salt ! I tried this and couldn't even eat my fish ! What a waste of fish ! Parmesan cheese - 80 mg of sodium per 2 tsp ! Lawrys seasoned salt - 380 mg per 1/4 tsp ! FAILED !!!!!

Try it without the Lawry's. I never use that. As a matter of fact, use Tony's Chacur.....how ever you spell it. But, use Tony's LIGHT Seasoning. It comes in a green container. It'll be perfect for this recipe.

I'm not going to knock this recipe down. My guess is that people have different appreciation of taste and flavor. I didn't like it. Too oily and too salty on fresh pickerel fillets. Perhaps on a different fish it might be tasty?

    • @wilderfish
      @wilderfish  ปีที่แล้ว

If it was too oily, that has nothing to do with the breading, that was how it was cooked, probably not hot enough. You can cut back on the salt, also, maybe try it with less Seasoned Salt. Anyway thanks for the feedback I guess it's not for everyone.

@@wilderfish Thank you for your reply. However, the weird this is....I tried once more time and...the result was the same minus the saltines as I reduced the salt.
I have an old, well seasoned cast iron frying pan where I used very little but very hot oil, as I know that if the oil is not hot enough, the bread crumbs will soak a lot of oil.
Now...I'm just thinking mind you that, could it be the type of fish?
My friend gave me few fresh pieces of pickerel from the lake. But maybe...(?), maybe it was some other fish?
I cannot really tell the difference from one fish filet from another with the exception of salmon, which I detest.
What do you think? If you have the time, I would appreciate your opinion.
Thank again for your response 🙂
