You educate piggie owners on proper care, and that keeps their guinea pigs safe in the long run and creates responsible pet owners. Your influence is more important than you or I could ever know!

I've made my piggies some summer liners, where I use cotton fabric instead of fleece for the top layer. The frozen bottle in a sock is fantastic and my long-haired boys love it on hot days!
Scotty - 2 things: everyday you are around, you make a contribution; and you kind of already do run a rescue if you think about it. You're always rescuing, fostering, caring for pigs. You are just an all-around good person who has a very strong aura of light around you. Some people just exude good energy; you are one of those.

Scotty, you are wise to know that your piggie community is is best served by you volunteering and not opening your own rescue. Some of us are the worlds best volunteers because we know that is our strength. I commend you and all you do for the small animal community. AND btw, i TOTALLY get the rewarding feeling of volunteering. I volunteered for Mission Viejo animal shelter for over 2 years back in the early 2000s. I specifically did bunnies (cuz I had been a bun mom for years). Since I had a 9-5 job, i could only be there on weekends and holidays. I didn't realize how coveted that made me!!! You are smart to be the malleable morph to fill in the gaps. Filling those gaps makes sure no piggie falls thru a gap!! 💘💝💖

Scott Hale, you cut yourself short in what you do on a daily basis. So stop! You have knowingly saved piggies but what is even more is you UNKNOWINGLY have saved piggies and human's sanity. You, Saskia and Valerie are mine and many people and piggies heroes. Now that is out of the way...... I found ice cooling pads while we were traveling. When we were coming home from OR and hit Kansas we felt like we were at the doorstep of Hades it was that hot. We tried everything to keep the girls cool. So we stopped at some off brand pet store and they had them. They are just big sheets of bubble ice. But they were heavy duty and they fit almost the entire bottom of the cage. We also had been putting the ice in socks but they didn't work as well. I wish now I had bought several of them. The are inexpensive and I am sure drug stores or Walmart or pet stores have them. Scotty, thank you for always being there for all of us! ❤
There was a capybara at the animal shelter where i adopt my cat from. It wasn’t there on the day i adopted my cat but it was there on one of the days I went to the shelter on one of my birthdays before I was able to adopt a cat.

Can I ask if a piggy gets upset if having lap time and they need to pee. I would like to have my piggies out with me at times but I don’t want to upset them.
15 minutes is about their limit. Put them on fleece and you don't have to worry if they pee or not but they will usually warn you. I found that it's best to hold them for a short periods multiple times a day rather than for one long period of time
Tell them ahead of time that you are about to take them out so they can prepare- Make up a phrase or song that you always use as the signal/cue for that action. They will quickly learn the association and will probably decide, "Oh, let me go to the bathroom first" when they hear it. One of my guinea pigs runs to the litter box to pee every time I announce "Fresh hay!!" as I bring over the giant bag of hay. It's so funny, I have no idea why an empty bladder makes hay taste better.
