😢 From the beginning, I started crying. I can't listen to the end. I am horrified by this letter. I don't understand how, even without money, you leave your pet in such a state! This person should have abandoned him in a shelter a long time ago. These people should be punished very severely! Dear Scotty, I admire you very much because you have to endure so many incomprehensible and unbearable things! 🙏❤️🌹🍀

The only thing I can think of is that they lack compassion and they think the guinea pig is something to amuse them? We rescued a emaciated guinea pig once from a family that evidently could not care for it, no hay and horrible living conditions. My wife and I just could not understand the logic of keeping something you could not care for properly, and came to the conclusion that some people lack the kindness and compassion and love for a little life but think of it as a toy almost, to be discarded or neglected when they are bored of it.

The rule in my home is if you cannot afford their Healthcare you don't get them. I have not owned a pet in the last decade because of this. Until I found Eddie abandoned in the hallway. I spent 10 days absorbing as much information as possible and your channel, Saskia's and Squeek Dreams helped me decide that I could keep him responsibly.

What does it mean you have the money for you have the money if that healtcare of that piggie?
Many people don't know how much these vet bills can be!
I am wondering if you can afford to pay vetbills I paid to save single piggies alive!
I paid over $2700 dollars to save Malacka and finally he died! I would have paid even more to save him, he was the sweetest guy, when I set to my desk he came to me in 30 seconds put his head on my leg and fall asleep. Unfortunatelly there wad no sience the vet could have used to save him.
After that I adopted Jack, the oldest male piggie - he had the last chance to get out from the shelter, making a risk I may loose him in six months meanwile I have to spend the same amount if money I spent on Malacka.
Jack got into a near death situation one monthes ago, he was taken to the vet the next day and went trough a surgery the secound day. After that he was on critical care two weeks long till he began to eat his own, but I havnt spent the same money I spent on Malacka, but spent over $4500! ... Luckily he returned back to his previous himself, he is happy, but we don't know whether his dental issue is solved.
In less than one year I spent over 7K on Malacka and Hack! You can say I was able to pay it because I had that money, but the only reason I had because I have been saving money to buy my own semi truck to work. It tells more about my financial situation if I say this is the money I put in my retirement found evry year.
The 7K doesn't include the time lost in the job, over 40 hour I get 50 percent extra, so evrytime I took my piggies to the vet I lost the part if the week it was woth working. Those days build up other thousands! I am wondering if you have the financial strength to spend this money on all the piggies and other animals you have - yes, you may have - but if you dont, you don't have the base to make statement about the healtcare of your pets.
Presently I enjoy Jack's company, but I am thinking what we are gonna do when he will follow Malacka on that bridge.
I can't take the youngest piggie from the shelter and leave the oldest to die in there, but I can't stand that amount of money on my piggies eighter. Also can't make a decision to euthanize them if there is a possibility to save them.
So, it is a theoretical quastion, but I am wondering, what kind of health care did you write about.

Please keep doing what you're doing, Scotty. I was one of those pet store guinea pig impulse buyers, and the pet store did not give me proper care instructions, and I imagine many people have no idea the responsibility they are taking on. Without you, Scotty, and the guinea pig rescue community, many guinea pigs wouldn't be living their best life, and many people wouldn't even know they weren't properly caring for their piggies before they ended up with very sickly, neglected piggies.

This is insane. Every time I think I've heard the worst possible case of neglect and abuse, there is someone out there going to the next level.
What kind of "human" could listen to a poor piggy cry in pain and do absolutely nothing to help that little soul. I just spent over $1,200.00 because my little guy broke his lower incisors and had to have surgery. There is nothing I wouldn't do or no amount of money I wouldn't spend on my babies to give them the best life that I can. This is absolutely heartbreaking!! I will never understand how people can treat these sweet little babies the way they do. I hope that poor piggy will get the help of a vet before it's too late.

I have a story with a happy ending if you have time to read Scotty. I live in a small town in Newfoundland. I made sure there was an exotic vet in town before I got my boys, Ziggy and Dusty. At age 5 Dusty developed a lump that appeared to be a swollen testicle. My vet and I decided to neuter. But when she began surgery, she realized that he had necrotic tissue where she expected to find an enlarged testicle. He survived surgery, but when his belly started to swell back up, she said that she was unwilling to perform another surgery, afraid that it was beyond her skills, and she referred me to the specialist in St. John’s nl. She also suggested that I euthanize him if I could not make the trip or afford the second surgery. But I took 4 days off work, took out a few loans, and drove across the island with my boy. The first surgery cost about $2000. The second about $5000. But I never miss that money. Dusty has been healthy and happy ever since. He’s 8 years old now and sitting right here with me

  • @michellecompton3529

How can one sit and listen to a poor animal yell in pain? How? How can one not get help for a pet? I had a rat that got into a fight with his brother and he had to have an emergency neuter because his private got ripped open. It cost me 300.00. But I’d do it again! I also have piggies and I’d spend my last dollar to make sure they get what they need. This is so sad. I hope that poor piggie gets the help it needs. But it doesn’t sound hopeful for the poor piggie if it’s sat in pain and has had an absence for a year. This really upsets me. 😢

Disgusting. I would never be able to bring myself to reply to an email as horrific as that. You have every reason to feel this way. That guinea pig is so lucky to be receiving the proper care now.
The note sounds to have been written by either a child or a person with a language barrier. It's never an excuse though. For a child, the parents should have taken responsibility. A person who does not speak English well still can find someone to surrender their animal for them.
The more we advocate for our furry friends the better living standards will get. Look back one hundred years ago and then today. It's night and day. Do you know why? Because we have advocates like you who get out there and educate the public. Keep spreading the word like you do Scotty. 💗

I had to watch this video twice in a row to grasp the concept of all this that was said.
If this person who sent the email knew the guinea pig was neglected then they didn't just find it.
IT had to belong to a family member or friend is my assumption.
This sounds like it's coming from someone with a language barrier or a younger teen soon to be adult who doesn't have the funds.
You don't want to know the choice words going through my head!

I'm so sorry this kind of thing happens... Not everyone has the ability to treasure the precious little lives that bring so much joy, if you understand their value and their beauty. They need a tremendous amount of education and a huge infusion of compassion. Not sure it is possible, but public service messages and other media methods of spreading the word, about caring for animals properly might help. Teach people that caring for our animals, as part of conserving our world which these little lives bring so much goodness to, is not only right... but vitally important to us all. We are so concerned about being green and environmentally friendly... we need to do the same for our earth's animals, including piggies and other small animals.

Brokenhearted! So sad,and that poor suffering piggie! Honestly, I believe people have been desensitized to what is in front of them day after day. The way people live, treat each other, have trickled down to our animals. Abuse, neglect, even various degrees of abuse and neglect ,just look at Austin's rescued bun, that just died from The Pig Room. That poor bun was in plain sight in horrible conditions day to day. There are people who will sit and do nothing, will just dump off, surrender. Scotty, you and Saskia help piggie owners give proper care and support and there are other good channels. However, there are channels, especially one in particular, that says she promotes proper care and support, but doesn't. New owners get on, get a dose of reality and don't realize what real piggie care is. How can someone learn when the person they are watching,is not following proper care and the people watching the channel know and stay silent. It is a cycle that repeats. Those who get angry, watch it night after night, stay silent. These are the same guinea pigs, that will end up in a rescue or shelter one day. No one wants to speak up, put in the time, the money, the sacrifice to do what needs to be done to help out. There are only a very few who will, and those are the ones we count on in the piggie community.

    @equestrianrosie 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

We always want to assume the best in people, but boy they can make it difficult sometimes.
We rescued a couple neglected piggies from a horrible situation, but after knowing the full scope of how they got into their condition, it was in no way intentional. The owner took in these piggies from their younger relatives and tried to make their living conditions better. But then these new owners had serious health issues that arose and made it impossible for them to physically perform their duties in caring for these animals. They didn’t realize how bad off the animals were because they couldn’t reach down to pick them up or even see clearly how bad the cage was which they became unable to clean. When we were notified about the situation and rescued them, the mats on these long-haired guinea pigs totaled about 30% of their overall body mass. The cage had cockroaches running around in it. It was absolutely horrible, but the condition of the owner was just as bad.
The benefit of reacting to these kinds of messages, even though you’re absolutely right, the person truly responsible for this is extremely unlikely to ever look into guinea pig care content, is that it helps reinforce that people who see a bad situation going on need to act early and often to try and intervene because these piggies have no one else to help them if the actual owner isn’t doing it. You help people realize action is the only way to stop this, so get involved and make things change for the better.

Listen i get it that they are in the wrong ok? But not everyone has access to medical care or a credit card. I know that day that Saskia rescued all those piggies that were bred to be snake food that she wanted to go off on the people but you're not going to change them. Hopefully they will see this video and think twice about ever owning another animal. I used to say "How could you not have money set aside for an emergency "? But i found myself needing care for my dog who is my family. Luckily i live in an area where they have a lot of resources and they sent a team to my house. I was so grateful to them i cried. I also no longer felt like i failed my family.

It's so sad and heartbreaking and your feelings are validated. You have every right to be upset and hurt. I think a lot of people don't realize the care that's needed for guinea pigs. They need a diet high in vitamin c, plenty of hay, veggies and water etc. They're cage needs to be cleaned weekly and they require nail trims every so often. They should be in pairs since they're highly sociable animals. This person should've returned the piggie to the store after they realized they didn't have the heart, time or money for it. Instead of like you said letting the poor thing suffer in agony for so long. As you already know all of this better than I. Piggies are very delicate and fragile little creatures so any little thing can turn tragic for them quickly and the first signs of sickness should be treated asap. I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this so often. Please put a donation link on your Facebook or on your TH-cam channel so that I and others can donate to your rescue when we can. Sending prayers and hugs. May God bless and keep you and all the little piggies always in His care! 🖖🏼😇👼🏼🙏🏼🔥🕊️🌈💜🤍🩷💛💚🪶🐦🪽💋

#6:13 You can step up, you can be a human being! You can fix their living conditions!
I agree 100%, some people do not seem to understand that these are living creatures, deserving of care and love. The very basics of you're getting an animal.
This is not the first time I've heard a rescuer/carer, someone who cares so much about the most vulnerable and does everything to help, has to experience someone who has discompassion, who goes against everything that people like you have such a heart for. No wonder you're upset, people like this have no heart, no thought of the animal's welfare. I see so many of the kindest people having to deal with the worst. One rescuer said that rescue seems to attract the best people, or the very worst. You can only try, we can only try to support you and give you the hope that this is not everyone. No wonder you and so many struggle. Scott, you are the very best kind of person. You're reaching out to us, and we hear you. Venting can be healthy, and though this is not your usual video, we are here for you. This is beyond our comprehension, too. Thankyou for bringing this to light, this cannot be easy for you, but we are here, we agree and many of us try to do the right thing for those in our lives every day. My heart hurts for you and this poor pig. We love you, Scotty ❤.

My heart hurts for you, Scotty, as well as for the guinea pig. There is NEVER any excuse to ignore an animal who needs help, EVER, EVER, EVER! Use your credit card. Ask a local rescue for help. Talk to the vet. Every vet I have ever taken animals to will treat for free if the client can't afford the fee at once, or will have to pay over time, or just can't pay at all. My last two little dogs ran me about $3,000 each for end-of-life expenses, but it was worth it. When I was donating food to the animals of homeless people in Golden Gate Park, there was one young kid who was feeding his dog on pizza. So the dog got sick -- how surprising... I took the dog to the vet. The vet said he considered me the responsible party because I was the one who paid the bill. So I took the dog and found a home for him with a family who had enough money to pay for the vet bills caused because the kid fed him pizza. Examine your resources of time, energy, and money before you ever adopt an animal. If you adopt an animal, you OWE that animal optimal care, not just food and water.

I think this has gotten out of hand, this should not have been shared on youtube or any other social medias, I think its good to teach people what goes on behind rescues but we don't know the background story of this message, the person is trying to give the Guinea Pig to a rescue so the Guinea Pig can get help, either the person has been struggling for some time or they did get them from someone and is now going to a rescue for help, I hope the rescue was able to help the Piggie, all Animals should not be neglected or be left without medical treatment when they need the help
On a different point what you said at the end of the video is incredible, it is true, how do we stop cruelty, I think some people need to learn how to love and be compassionate and understand that with any Animal (including vulnerable people) we have to learn how to do and be better for them, having any Animal is constantly learning how to find better care and some people need to understand this, I think this part should have been a video on its own, there will always be Animals that need help but neglect and cruelty should never happen

Hi Scotty - Let me preface this by saying I love your compassion and your channel is a balm for the sore spirit. That being said, I used to work in an animal shelter and I have seen a lot that made my blood boil. I will never forget the time a guy surrendered guinea pigs because he could not afford to feed them, only to discover in the relinquishment forms that he was feeding them Doritos and Oreos. I am fully aware that humanity sucks on many levels. When an animal is harmed through abuse or neglect, it is easy to hate the person who brings that suffering to your door. However, if you aren't able to recognize when someone is receptive to guidance, you end up missing an opportunity to help a piggie in need, and to help a person do better in the future. There are some red flags in this letter that point to educational, cultural, or economic barriers to assistance that many of us take for granted. I recently applied for a Care Credit card to afford expensive dentistry for my 19-year-old cat. She was in pain. It was non-negotiable. However, I had the benefit of a lifetime of good credit history. Not everyone has that luxury. I don't think someone who has trouble spelling would go to the trouble to write a letter without a genuine desire to do better for the creature in their care.

I honestly don't want to think about this, because if that person was the owner then he or she may have some psychopathic traits. I can't see why else someone won't do anything to help their pet or surrender him sooner. The way that the condition of the piggy was described in the letter is creepy for a lack of better word. Maybe it is because the person is not a native English speaker, but still for me this is not a way a person who cares even a little bit about their pet would describe it. I hope I am wrong, but I don't think so. Human cruelty has no limits. It hurts my heart to see what we are capable of.
I hope the piggy is ok right now, being treated or peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge.
I don't understand people like this. Taking care of my boys brings me joy. That is why I got them to take care of them. Why would you get a pet, if you can't afford its basic needs or don't want to take care of it? Maybe something happened and the person was in a bad situation, but still.
My take way from this video is that I never want to be in a position in which I can't afford vet fees. So my plan is to set something aside each month for my boys. That will give me a peace of mind in case of an emergency.
