    I think the key to the coil is the head placement. You have to think that your head is an anchor point. I've learned through this program if you look back in the ( reachback ) and you follow the disc with your head you'll never feel the resistance coil.

    Great explanation as always. I just yesterday tried this (or something similar) and I gotta say: keeping your arm relaxed and letting it extend and curl by itself feels like a really “big movement”. So for everybody trying this, it might feel a lot different than what you think a throw should feel so keep at it for a bit and you’ll feel the whip.
    Thanks for the video coach. Love your content.

    Excellent exercise. I need this kind of indoor practice. I am finding it so challenging to stop pulling. On Monday I had some sling-shot action for the first time throwing putters just using a stand still. Tuesday i tried drivers on the practice field and old habits creeped back in. Unlearning is challenging, but I'm 100% determined to make the transition. I'll check out your patreon.

    I have a hard time, not tensing once I grab my disc. It's all fine and good, until I grab a towel, a disc or anything and I loose the noodle. trying to figure out if I'm just gripping to tight, or why I'm getting tight with something in my hand. Everything feels great, again, until I put something in my hand , tips?

      Stretching (like touching your toes for example) if you stretch too far it hurts. Just Stay comfortable with the stretch (coil) and don’t overdue it. It shouldn’t be hurting at all, it should feel like a stretch.

    One thing that seems to keep happening so far is, sometimes I hook the disc super far to the right. Like a super late release. I would love to see a video on how to time the release right so that the snap happens when your hand in front of the target and what happens when that snap happens way late. Feels like it gets 'stuck' in my hand.

  • @masterboyle1977
    @masterboyle1977 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm curious with some pros their disc is just hanging off their loose wrist in almost extreme anhyzer during reach back. Seems they only snap into the desired release angle at the last moment. Is that correct?

    • @crackfacekilla
      @crackfacekilla 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have experimented with this just for kicks, and it seems to me (personally) that whether or not you set the disc angle before the "pull-through" or whether the wrist is completely relaxed and hanging loose (a la Ricky or MattyO), as long as your elbow and shoulder are aligned, then the wrist kind of "snaps" into place to follow/match the hinge of the elbow. It wasn't the most consistent for me, and I got some off-axis wobble on some of my shots, but on my good rips, I felt some of the best and most pronounced "snap" that I have ever felt, and the disc launched out much speedier than normal. For reference, I top out at about 340-360 (medium accuracy), and my best "loose-wristed" throw went almost 400 with this technique, but extremely inconsistent.
      Personally I think that it will be best for me to learn to have a loose "enough" wrist where I can still hold the disc at the approximate angle that I want to release it, while still being loose and springy, but it takes a lot of focus (or maybe lack thereof) and practice to straddle that line between rigidity and flowiness.
      I think this video will help with this, because as long as we generate the forward snap WHILE we are loading back, then this looseness is much more achievable. Whereas normally, I think of it as load-up, pause (even for a millisecond), snap. This pesky pause (albeit miniscule) is where my arm tenses up and becomes a baseball bat (instead of a whip).

  • @kentslawson5519
    @kentslawson5519 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Coach T!
    Could you please answer one question for me?
    Regarding grip pressure - how hard are you gripping the disc on a full power drive and do you actively engage grip pressure? I find that the harder I grip, the stiffer my arm becomes. So it’s counterintuitive as I’m sure greater grip would translate to more snap, but I lose my looseness in the process of gripping down. Please advise! Haha

  • @Nickeeefy
    @Nickeeefy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you engage your core before you coil back? It feels like its easier to feel my core that way and use it to coil rather then just turn back sometimes loose that stretched muscles

      I had a similar issue that kind of developed out of nowhere and noticed I was reaching too low and away from me with my left arm, and it was pulling my left shoulder forward and down, so the opposite was happening for my right shoulder and I was releasing high right. So I had to focus on keeping my left hand up and closer to my body. Of course, not sure if your problem is the same, but this sounded familiar to me

  • @masterboyle1977
    @masterboyle1977 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like the idea of never stop moving. I’ve gotten this feeling before on a smaller upshot like 150 ft where you can feel your arm is still moving back while your body starts uncoil. It seems harder to feel it on a bigger shot but I’m going to keep working.

    Hey coach! Great stuff here as always. Been hooked since Ep #1. As someone addicted to figuring out the proper way to power the throw, how do you address a tendency to lean forward? I am starting to retrain the body not to throw with the arm but my torso wants to move forward rather than starting back over the back foot and then rotating... any ideas on how to train this geometry/feel?

    Something that's really working for me is to find the sweet spot to reach back away from my body The further out away from my body I reach out, the more whip I get. However, if I reach out too far, I risk slapping my arm or chest. When I reach straight back or curl the disc around my body, I get wrist flexion at the hit, but I'm rounding with no whip. Some big distance guys like Conrad, curl behind, but he exerts so much freaking effort. I think a tight snappy whip goes a long way, and finding that sweet spot has been a game changer. If I place the disc the right distance away from my body, not too much, not too little, I get a smooth crack of the whip.
    - I think this video of Conrad & Ezra illustrates the curl vs whip perfectly: th-cam.com/video/5EAfYpljI2M/w-d-xo.html
    - And if you watch them play on the same card, Ezra and Drew look like they're barely exerting any effort: th-cam.com/video/yVzd4dZsnQQ/w-d-xo.html , th-cam.com/video/ttgX7p1j3WQ/w-d-xo.html

    throwing about 420 max. and this right here is my problem, still using to much arm and not enough core. not using my left arm hardly. my throwing arm keeps getting in front of me, and going to soon, actually giving back pain cus my follow through is too late.
