The problem with the RS is the same problem with the Evo: they put good mods on shitty base cars. I have a regular Focus and have spent enough times in the forums realizing that the same stupid issues I have are all present on the RS and ST. Like cheap materials for one. Then stupid things breaking. So far with 90,000 miles the trunk wiring is completely broken giving the trunk open alert and reverse lights no longer work. The car has transmission problems (automatic) even though it go regular services. The engine mounts are bad even though no one's beating up the car. The headlights on the regular Focus are horrible, you can't see anything (put in LEDs). The windshield wipers are possibly the worst design I've ever seen, they rattle, and scrape and silicon blades to the same thing, it's just a poor design with no frame on the blade. The brakes are a pain in the ass to change thanks to that hex bolt you have to undo to get the calipers off. Both o2 sensors are bad. Stuff just breaks left and right. Which sucks because it does actually have cool seats, it's very comfortable, it handles the road really well, and it's really solid. I also really like the stock intake. I added a K&N filter to that and left it alone. I mean I clean it, but looking at the design a CAI didn't make much sense. Now I know you're thinking that's what you get with a base Focus, right? But you shouldn't. Quality is quality. I had a 2008 WRX. Hatchback, of course. That was a great car. What Subaru started with was a much better car overall and made it much better. I drove that car till 85,000 miles and traded it on a Rav4. I got $14,000 in trade for that. They hold their value really well. I had it for five years and when I bought it I paid just over $20,000 for it (it had 7,000 miles, so it was "pre-owned"). The Evos are another one that start out with a shitty car and start slapping on performance parts. Between these two, I'd go with the Subaru. I'd hate not having a hatchback for this type of car, but I trust Subaru a hell of a lot more than Ford. My WRX, I never once put synthetic oil in it. I had it tested every year because either Subaru or the dealership did one free yearly check-up. I never had any issues with the turbo. Hopefully the new WRX has a hatchback version and keeps the manual. And if that Type R by Honda ever gets AWD and 3 seats in the back instead of 2, that might be something to get.

The sound of the RS is just not my thing. It doesn't revv very high and you can't hear the turbo enough(if at all)...quite a raspy exhaust on this one as well. Really like the look the owner went for though, with the front mods and black hood, it looks hella aggressive. I like how you can hear the turbo on the STI, and a flat 4 just sounds more exotic...so yeah, STI for me. Both very cool cars nonetheless, thx for sharing!
Would recommend you get the front strut tower bar to enable the car to handle the extra HP, as well as the rear suspension link and arm packages; they are extras for WRX STIs, but they come as standard on the S208, probably the same with the S209.
Jack Robertson ye I heard the ra pistons are a bit stronger than the previous 15-18 sti. S209 prices is gonna hurt people’s Wallets. Dealer markup is gonna be crazy
Very nice rides l like them both but i agree the sti is better but i like the look of the hatchback rs more than the 2015+ hence why im sticking with my 2011 Sti hatch. The Sti are overlooked IMO especially the 2011-2014 Sti's and will only go up in price even more than they have in the last year. Some of my car enthusiast friends that drove my 2011 sti, bunch of basic BMW M3, M5, 911 weekend track worrier types and even non BMW nice people, agree the sound from the 2011 sti is one of the best 4 cylinder engine noise out there. I cannot wait to get my 2011 sti hatch back from the shop with a new type RA engine, custom built Hill country turbo, bigger injectors, e85 etc only "tasteful mods". In my opinion the Cobb intake down pipe exhaust helps the sti to be the best sounding 4 cylinder car out there. I stayed with the unequal length headers ,sacrificed some power, just to keep the amazing sound this car makes. You just have to hear these Sti's in person that rumble from the boxer engine w the Cobb exhaust the subtle blow of sound from the cobb intake and also the blue flames from the exhaust is just the icing on the cake no other 4 banger produces as much drama for the $ as the sti does. The Sti is a future classic but im probably somewhat biased since i was always a fan of the Subaru wrx sti. The driving experience you get from a manual car when you nail the shifts perfectly is something you will not get from a top end Tesla which is a great daily its so fast it will make you want to puke but it does that because its so quite there is no increasing engine noise to help your mind to anticipate that acceleration. The theatricality of an old fashioned turbo engine with its RPM and engine noise building up culminating in a perfect shift that kicks you back in to your seat will never be matched by an electric car no matter how fast it is.
A Ford is still a Ford, no matter how hard they try to be something else. Prolly why they stopped making cars (lmao) The rs is a nice looking car but, sounds like a 91 civic. The WRX looks sleepy but sounds like srt built it. No matter the car; you still gotta appreciate the time and $$ invested!! Well done
Oh man.. That RS is so so SO discontinued. Let's all talk and drool over what is now a very rare car. There are many more STi's available and an aftermarket that wont soon vanish.
Liked the video alot. Super nice production quality. One thing i was curious about for the STI. Why put all the money in upgrades, and not do the block?
I owned an sti before my RS. Both "made" make 400awhp and the RS was faster, period. For a track car the RS wins no competition. But my sti was a better CAR, period. It was built better, it was less miserable to live with as a daily. It was easier to work on, parts were easier to get, after market parts were overwhelmingly abundant and cheaper etc etc. If I were to buy ether again "yes I know the RS isnt made anymore" I would go with the sti. Especially if subi removes head from ass and replaces the ancient engine.
Herp Derp Our local engine builders hate the design of the Subaru’s engine and they don’t understand why they stick with it. They really try to steer people away from doing big power builds. They themselves will tell you even investing big dollars into a EJ doesn’t mean it will hold. Once you take the engine apart and look at it. You would also know what there talking about. Then you even look at the 4G63 and you start to understand why Evos are so much faster and make so much more power. Plus they don’t like to rev while. 4G63 can rev to the moon.
the '15-18 ST/RS are the best looking hatchbacks... but I still cant get over the 'meh' sound of the RS aftermarket exhausts....Suby takes the cake on the sound..but looks too much like a basic Subaru...I'd rather have an older STI if I had to have a Subaru. Sadly my '16 Focus ST sounds better than this RS, and this RS would SPANK my ST with basic bolt-ons. Both of these are cool cars that I'd give a big nod to as I saw them on the road, but both in my opinion are a bit too much for what you get...I'll continue to daily my ST for the time being.. and all of its torque steer that makes it slow out of corners and from a dig ^_^

STi making power on a stock block.... yikes!
it's a 2018 internals are revised

No. The 2018 sti still has the shitty cast pistons. Only the 18 type ra has stronger pistons and also the 19+
@@roykim5322 Even the RA has cast pistons. The new S209 will have forged pistons and rods though.
Jack Robertson ye I heard the ra pistons are a bit stronger than the previous 15-18 sti. S209 prices is gonna hurt people’s Wallets. Dealer markup is gonna be crazy
"My cars not very flashy", he says with a 6ft Spoiler :P
Excellent video as usual. Did you mic under the hood of the Subaru?
Couldn’t have said it better myself😭🙌🏽 I own a ‘21 STI and I love mine.
lmao they even got the look down as well, talk about stereotypes
Proud sti owner.
Proud head gasket replacer huh. Good for you 👌
@@lsdpepe3516 haha thanks, the sarcasm is well appreciated
lol
@@BP-fx3qc just wait for it, ran into a crap tone of issues with my subaru on an e54 tune with just 24 psi
@@blackreef9972 sorry to hear that, mine is all stock. Will go stage 2 iag block this upcoming summer but will keep my original stock motor as well.
Had a focus back in 2000 it look exactly the same as it does now
Both the cars look brilliant!
Dude, I love the curved rear wing spoiler on the RS! Where can I buy that at?
A Ford is still a Ford, no matter how hard they try to be something else. Prolly why they stopped making cars (lmao)
The rs is a nice looking car but, sounds like a 91 civic. The WRX looks sleepy but sounds like srt built it. No matter the car; you still gotta appreciate the time and $$ invested!! Well done
Oh man.. That RS is so so SO discontinued. Let's all talk and drool over what is now a very rare car. There are many more STi's available and an aftermarket that wont soon vanish.
spool in the STI is very awesome, luv it
Somehow I love how dirty the Subaru is
Jesus Rodriguez is cleaner than mine
So glad here in England we had the MK2 focus, with the T5 Volvo engine. Sounds SOOO much better then that duck! 😂
The previous gen Focus RS sounds much better with the 5 cylinder block from Volvo.
Liked the video alot. Super nice production quality. One thing i was curious about for the STI. Why put all the money in upgrades, and not do the block?
Matt g block would cost as twice than just full bolt on bro
The RS aesthetic mods are a little too boy racer for my taste but still a solid car. STI is more subtle aesthetically, but when she spools up omg…
Beautiful Focus RS and Subaru
Sounds like a whoopee cushion track was spliced into all the RS shots.
Mazda Guys: make an AWD Speed3
Ford: Say no more
RS: zuu tu tu tu tu
That man needs to take the s209 badge off the back of that thing right now
I think it was an S208 badge
The S209 badge tho😮
Like 'Go Faster' tape....
the '15-18 ST/RS are the best looking hatchbacks... but I still cant get over the 'meh' sound of the RS aftermarket exhausts....Suby takes the cake on the sound..but looks too much like a basic Subaru...I'd rather have an older STI if I had to have a Subaru.
The sti is epic omg 😍😍,,,,,, great video
Nice cars! I'm getting a type R
Man that subie sounds good :)
COSWORTH! I woke up when you said that name xD
If you don’t mind, who were the two tuners of the STi? Remind me not to go to them 😅
