Thanks so much for this video. I've long wanted to see the Light Grimsby line as I've been crossing it going to work for the last 36 years..!! Can't say I've seen more than a handful of trains on it in all that time...
As a relief signalman in that area in the 80's and 90's, I have worked every signalbox which was passed by this loco. Oh, how it has changed, and where is Immingham East box now? Not realised it has gone, although very aware of the re-signalling scheme which took away all the signalling at Barnetby/Wrawby and elsewhere. Used to be busy, 200 + trains per day, Wrawby to Brocklesby Jnc., not so now, and the sterile LED signalling uninteresting. But I am thankful I managed to catch the end of the Railway when it was enjoyable to go to work. Happy times.
Been past this line on the way to Grimsby( I have friends there) and always wondered what it was like. Now I know, thanks for sharing another great video.
When I was based at Immingham depot in the 1970s the line was double track throughout and used several times a day by Grimsby Trips (9T80). About once a month a ship carrying ilmenite would dock at Immingham and several trips a day were made to Tioxide (Titans) for several days until the mineral had all been transported. There was also daily traffic to Courtaulds factory and occasional traffic to the Ciba factory. Several light engine movements to Grimsby and Cleethorpes also took place.
Well, here we go to my favorite UK town. Cleethorpes. I am even a GTFC fan and have the new kit. So much more interesting to tell people I’m from Cleethorpes instead of I live in Farmington-yawn. As always, thanks for the video.
One would have thought that the car importers / exporters would use the railway on thier boundarys to move cars on mass, instead of transporter lorrys up and down the M180.
I signed the whole of that route from 1974 until 1982 when I was a relief driver at Frodingham (Scunthorpe) M.P.D. For a little used line it still appears to be in remarkably good condition apart from the lack of vegetation control. If I remember correctly, the Grimsby and Immingham Electric Tramway used to run alongside this line where the pipelines are now
That’s right, the Tramway ran alongside the ‘main line’ from Pyewipe to Immingham. Just before the road over bridge before East Jct the tramway veered off to the left past the bottom of the bridge where it reversed and then ran over the bridge onto Immingham Docks.
Why was the train going around these tracks? It didn't seem to be there to deliver or load something. Presumably only goods trains run there? Interesting to see these obscure bits of the railway network though.
If the Ulceby Station area goes into engineering, freight uses this route as a back-up to the Immingham Docks. 4 Years ago or so, it saw a train an hour almost for a few days. Great to see, as I live right near it!
AND we got a token! Short video, but packed with good stuff. Sad to have to read that the line to Grimsby DOCKS no longer carries freight. That is a heck of a car park across the tracks from the Renault dealer. Why is it a “light” railway?
When originally built the line was a contractors line and used to carry workers and materials for the building of Immingham Docks. Being a contractors line it was only built to ‘light’ standards. When the docks were opened in 1912 the line was upgraded to normal standards but the name ‘light’ has stuck ever since.
Good to see from the drivers perspective, used to signal on the NL line, curious as to the passing signals at danger? Usual axle counters occupied round the corner from marsh jct?
I really enjoyed this , just a silly question, why not have come in from the humber Road Junction end or is there a specific reason, driver familiarity?
@@RailMart oh right lol, yes I love to see an engine gingerly travelling down old worn track, old signalling, takes me back to those 1980s rail tours down obscure freight lines
All our new stuff will have sound. Its the older stuff from 3 - 4 years ago that was restricted. There will be a mixture of both. Have lots of video to put up, but its a case of time I am afraid.
I was on a special that ran into Grimsby docks and around immingham docks into Ridley sidings about 5 years ago, is Grimsby docks totally out of use now then? The line into it looked very overgrown! Also what loco was you on and what was it doing?

I actually shied away from that biggest one!

Brilliant video. Thank you.
Our pleasure!
Fascinating, thank you. As a former local, I used to drive round Pyewipe and see the line cross the road.
Glad you enjoyed it
TOP! Thank you. Please more of this.
More to come! South Yorkshire Joint and Brigg lines in the pipeline.
22:20 Those sidings are being torn up currently.

Awesome video I really enjoyed it
Awesome thank you!
Very interesting video. Would be great to see this line receiving more regular services.
I agree!
Any chance of a revisit now the sidings are hugely different?

Always wondered where west marsh sidings went to
Amazing journey. I don't suppose you need a chain saw in the cab too often, but there were a few moments there that worried me. Thank you :)
You are right!
Fantastic.
Glad you think so!
Made my day this!
I'm always very interested in the lines in this area. This one is rarely filmed. As always thanks for your excellent information and comments.
You are very welcome
Very interesting
Glad you think so!

Mainly oil trains now, from the refineries to midlands airports...and to Ipswich train depot.

Do a search on “ Grimsby - Immingham tramway”

It was a Track Circuit Failure or Axle Counter Failure neither signal could be cleared.

Yep. You guessed it. It was for road refreshing purposes.

A lovely video, thanks! I like to follow the route on the OS map, and on the National Library of Scotland 6" map for the main lines!
Nice one. The Map at the start is the openrailmap
What a shame that there is no audio

great video can i ask why the pipe at the side of the single line rise up and then gose back down again every few hundred yards
These bends are usually put in to allow for expansion & contraction with temperature changes, without the need for special flexible joints.
Thanks for that.
@@dolanbaker Thanks for the info i can stop wondering now

Yes very overgrown. It was a 66. Route proving.
Ohhh route proving for what? May I ask?
I know the route reasonably well having lived in the area all my life. Pity there is no sound and would like to know why sound wasn't permitted.
There is a full explanation at the start of this one. :- th-cam.com/video/e0olUlkuK58/w-d-xo.html
Great video and a interesting line, what type of traction are you travelling on?
Class 66
I worked Pyewipe from 1990 till 2002..
They don’t trim the bushes there ???
Not very often.
It's Grimsby, bushes are rarely trimmed!
The track is a disgrace, and having to pass all the signals at danger....? Better off closing it.
