I have the same model (S) but with the all wheel drive and it loves the snow ( as opposed to gravel or something which, let's face it, I wouldn't do obviously)
The best part of you video is when you went into the tunnel and you could hear the glee and laughing because that's how I feel EVERY time I drive it. Great video btw....😷

The most surprising thing for me was how spectacular V8 exhaust note. I bought it for that, but I really had no idea how exotic it was.

    V8S owner:
    1. I have no idea how you fit all that stuff in to your trunk. Bravo! The trunk size is a challenge for sure.
    2. I have never once used the stop start. Surprisingly have always remembered to turn it off.
    3. I hoon the crap out of my car. I fully use the power everytime I drive it. It's great that the V6 is enough for most, I have to have more power. In fact, I still want more. The V8 is explosive and quite dramatic, I'd miss it too much.
    4. I have zero clue what MPG my car gets. Probably under 10 with how I drive it.
    5. My car like yours has been flawless. I drive like a grandpa until she warms up, and then I drive her hard. I took the engine cover off mine after I learned the R models don't come with them due to heat. The cover deadens the direct injection noise a ton but it's also a big blanket. The V8S is identical to an R (only difference a tune) and the V6 is extremely similar to the V8 so if it were me I'd remove the cover on any F-Type if the engineers required it on the higher output. No need risking too much heat warping some heads.

Good on you to use your Jag as a daily driver..! I've got an older 911 convertible that serves in the same manner, here in sometimes snowy Colorado. People have gotten so incredibly conservative regarding what they feel will work as a normal car, but there's no reason to shy away from something semi-exotic. Anyway, nice video! Thanks for posting.

I have a v6S coupe awd for 2years from new and pretty much agree with what you say. Biggest negative was JLR quality control which is subpar coming from an Audi and surface rust on the rear steel A frame which is easily correctable (apparently rectified from 2019 my). The original looks the best in my opinion in person (though does not photograph well). Early models had bugs

Hi Matt, I bought the 2017 F-Type R Convertible new 5 years ago as a second car. Today it has run 10'000 km, so just under 6'500 miles, and I can confirm all your findings Matt: this car is fun to drive, causes zero problems, the fuel consumption is very moderate for a 551 PS V8 supercharged vehicle. Like you, in 5 years I have never, absolutely never had a problem with my F-Type R... I have never been able to say that about any other car, BMW, Ford, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes, all those cars had their quirks, the Jaguar does not. A good car, for the V8 R identical good experience on my part as you had with the smaller S Matt!

As others mentioned, these aren’t issues but rather addressing what others perceive as issues. I own an R model and love it. I came from a 911 and it’s clearly a different animal. And the start/stop can be easily disabled by disconnecting it by the battery.

Hey Matt, been subscribed since I found you video on fixing the sway bar links for your Saab. Nice video, the truck space looks like so much considering I probably would have had trouble fitting all that into my old '07 9-3 convertible with the top down. Issue number 2 if you can turn it off why would anyone complain haha? Issue 3 man you're super cool for driving it year round! It's definitely one of those cars I'd never think to see in the snow but here we are. Issue 4 ticks me off because my 4 cylinder Saab can barely hit 30mpg lol. Issue 5 is great news and pushes this car more into "maybe one day and it's practicable" category for me. That center vent thing is a neat trick. Overall I too loved this car for it's exhaust and for a convertible I think it looks great.

Thanks for your comments. I can't get over how much more efficient cars are now. My beater car is a Saabaru 9-2x. I am lucky to ever get more than 25mpg. Saab 9-3x convertibles are great cars. They look great and they are remarkably affordable. Good choice.

Its one of the only true sports cars on the market. A sports car is a ground-up convertible design with 2 seats. The F convertible is lighter than the coupe. A (much slower) 911 is a NOT a sportscar, nor is a (much slower) Huracan, etc.

    • @mbrenengen
      @mbrenengen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

It has been more like 20 months now. Funny you should ask... It is currently immobile in my garage. Battery is totally dead. It also has an unrelated CEL. Through my rose colored glasses, it would appear that the battery went belly up. I suspect it sitting around not being used at the dealership in Canada for more than two years seriously compromised the battery, so at the first sign of cold weather it gave up. No biggie. The CEL indicates a fault with one of the oxygen sensor preheaters. Again, no big deal. Other than that (it being totally dead) I have not had one single problem with anything. :)

Mine is the V6(S) w/380hp.+AWD and it works great even with sport tires. I do not change over to winter tires and just keep them on all year round. The F-Type with AWD has a TON of power so you have to be fairly careful and feather touch the gas pedal. I have however after a good wash I put some tire shine and apparently coated them way to much because while pulling away and hit the gass to blow any water in the cracks and ended up doing a full 360 as soon as I pulled out. It was kinda scary and fun at the same time.

Yeah, I floor my V8 maybe 3 times a minute. Its glorious and yes I've owned a V6, which I traded up to the 8. Like you, I watched all the reviews and vids and thought the V6 would be enough, but it wasn't. The V8 has exceeded my highest hopes. I'm glad there are people who love driving the V6, but I need ultimate power, and I use it all the time, everyday. Its about torque. HP is meaningless and has no effect on acceleration. A 1 cubic inch motor can develop 1000 HP but take a year to spin up.

@@mbrenengen Well I think its the love affair with Porche and the fact that this challenges that. But as an aside, Jaguar put in the pops and crackle in homage to the Spitfire plane of WW11 as the car is made on the same site and the same building as the plane was. The production floor still has the slight slope that was necessary for the workers to push the plane from work station to work station and then out of the building where the female pilots got in and flew them to the airfields.
