  • Barlow lenses increase or decrease the magnification of microscopes. Here I give you an introduction into Barlow lenses for telescopes, stereo microscopes and compound microscopes.

    🔬 MICROSCOPE RECOMMENDATION
I receive many questions on which microscope one should buy. I recommend the following models for amateur microscopy (Affiliate Links to Amazon):
    Children’s/Introductory - Swift or National Optical SS110: amzn.to/2WdS4PX
For Amateurs - Swift SW380T (with phototube) or Swift SW380B: amzn.to/3fu7aIY

15:09 If resolution is done by the objective, why we don't use eye piece of 5x or even 1x ?
We could use 80x dry objective with a bunch of eye piece instead of the other way around?

Wow, awesome video and awesome explanation! I really loved how you talked about "image information" as well. I'm not very versed in optics, so I'm not sure the difference between objective of the microscope and magnification by a Barlow. Resolution is making sense though. Is it similar to having a high resolution picture (like 4K) and taking a lower resolution picture (720P), and then enlarging the lower resolution picture until it's the same size as the higher resolution and comparing quality?

incredibly helpful. Thank you so much. I purchased the 10mp camera with this scope but the streaming video lag a lot. Any advice?

Hi Oliver, thanks for doing such a nice video on microscopy. I watch your video as a lecture and it helps me a lot in my study. I am just curious. Could you tell me where did you bought the LED light source?

Interesting. Like more about lenses etc. Maybe also loupe.

So I've been really enjoying your channel since I discovered it and it's given me a lot to ponder and study. One question I have when using a camera that I still don't understand is how using a Barlow and a reducer affects things. I have a .5 Barlow and need an adapter/reducer to attach my microscope camera to the microscope. I'll be working on electronics and soldering under the microscope, should I use a .5 reducer or a .75 or what should I consider in making the decision?

Thank you Oliver. You give us so much information. I guess it would be a great idea to start a 4th channel for amateur astronomy. You may do it according to your will. Its just a recommendation. Merry Christmas. May Lord Jesus Bless You.

Excellent!..Just a question: I have a Euromex Iscope iS1153 PLi trino, which has a 30 mm tube, how can I attach a pair 23.2 barlow to the tube? Do I need an adapter 30mm to 23.2?

I am an Ophthalmologist, we have a stereo device called” Slit lamp “ please can you explain its optics. I didnot understand how it works they said it has both Galilian and astronomical optics in it !!

The usual context for Barlow lenses is in centering the optics to use phase contrast. That's actually the *only* place I've seen it. But this explanation doesn't really touch on that, so I'm confused about what it does there. Presumably it zooms out so you can see the edges of the objective lens?

What you are referring to is the so-called Phase Telescope (also known as a Bertrand lens), which is used in order to center the optics in phase contrast microscopy. The Barlow lenses that I talk about here are there to increase the magnification.
