As a middle aged bro, I wish you guys could have a discussion about eating for both gains and health. I’ve been cracking this code for a while and still feel like I haven’t perfected it.

The Vertical diet is a step in the right direction in both regards.

Until i actually tried a gaining phase i had no idea how annoying and frustrating eating like 4k plus calories consistently can be. Even more so if you try making it a ton of clean food

3 percent bodyfat and your head should barely poke out from in between your traps and chest.

I have the discipline to train hard. Don’t have the discipline to eat so much. Thinking at 65, that may be fortuitous.

After training for 23 years, up and down in strength and weight, I've come to realize that training is the fun part...diet will ALWAYS be the hard part. It sounds fun eating all day...and it is fun if you're eating junk food, but that gets you no where...until you eat a disciplined clean diet day in and day out for YEARS. The worst is when you're eating more than ever, and there could be months the scale doesn't move. That's maddening.

@MrLive2die i don't think that what you're saying has been shown to be true. Usually they say about 15% increase in strength and as for as muscle mass it is a bit more but you must realize 2-4x more than natty is a bit ridiculous. You need gear to be competitive at the top level but you need the basics from hard work even more.

He might be saying that instead of gaining around 30 lbs muscle as a natty you can gain around 50lbs on gear.
      -
Then genetics comes into question and can make you gain more or less muscle on top of that.
      -
I would prefer to have a hard working coach for personal training than genetics or blasting gear.
Hard work is important, knowing how to diet helps your clients:
