Hi, sorry to interrupt, but im on your patreon for over a week now (researcher tier) and havent gotten any access yet, have I done something wrong? Greetz WV
Bro i am the cliche there is a guy at ny gym i don't know his name but i say see you tomorow and he says yes you will tomorow and if you miss you explain why lol
I seem to have made it a lifestyle, but I still find it very easy to say no, it is still a massive mental struggle to keep it up and very rarely do I have a perfect week of training.
@@craigford3711 Sorry, by bad week I meant still talking myself out of it one or two times a week. I don't think I've managed to stick to the plan for a full week yet!
100% agree. The people who stick to the gym for years and years on end are not those who need to rely on motivation or dedication, it’s those who just simply love working out.
It’s one of those things that the more you do it, the more fulfilling it becomes. I get insane amounts of pleasure and satisfaction while working out, but that’s because I’m in good condition. If don’t go to the gym for a week or two because of vacation or something, the idea of working out sounds horrible, and it’s mostly hard and unpleasant when I’m starting back up
I agree to an extent. I love working out and have been consistently for about 9 years, but there are times where I've had to practice discipline to go because there are those periods where I don't feel like dialing in my diet and training because I get burnt out. It takes a lot of work and can be a mental battle if you're serious about making progress.
It's all about energy and getting the ball rolling... when your in really good shape going to the gym all the time. It's gonna be easier to go VS being out of shape and only going once or twice a week
He just uses swear words as filler words, as does Chris. For all the talk about self improvement and discipline, apparently it doesn’t apply to their public speaking skills. Using the same swear words over and over is the same thing as saying “um” and “uh” when you can’t think of what to say. These people should hold themselves to a higher standard if they are going to be professional public speakers. At least try to make up some new swear words or find better ways to describe intense and frustrating events. I am underwhelmed by their lack of discipline.
@@paulg2059I absolutely agree. I couldn't even finish this video. I wonder if he realizes speaking like this lowers his credibility with some people. It comes across so lowbrow. I think some swearing is okay, to emphasize a point here and there, but this is just too fucking much. (See what I did there?)
The part about going to whatever random gym you find wherever you are traveling in the world and just feeling right at home is something I can definitely relate to. Finding the best and closest gym is always the first thing I do no matter which country I'm traveling to.
3:32 Spot on my man. In a nutshell. I was that guy. Sick and tired of being overweight and sick and tired of being sick and tired. I go to the gym every day, Lift weights. Move my body. Love it!
Buying a bench and a set of dumbbells was what made the difference for me. I just have to step into my backyard and I'm at the "gym". Expensive $$$$ but for me it's the difference maker.
I strongly recommend his youtube channel, Renaissance Periodization( may have spelled the last part wrong.) I've learned a shit ton from it and he's entertaining as fuck too. Peace
PASSION. I got my first pair of 15 dumbells as a sophmore at 15. I would do sitting concentrations curls & tri cep kick backs on a metal chair looking at myself in the closet mirror. I am now 42 years old & remain hitting the gym 5 days a week because I love it. 27 years of grinding. Its my safe place / my mental reset & therapy & I dont plan on slowing down anytime soon either. Lets keep getting it. 🧠💪
This guy is awesome; I highly recommend his channel. I don't even lift; I gave up getting jacked decades ago, but stayed pretty strong indefinitely anyway. That base keeps helping with sports.
what i love about these teases is that they make me excited for an upcoming podcast. It's like watching a trailer for a movie or a tv show to look forward to :D
This guy is fantastic. No BS. And those guns! I walked into a gym and signed up after I handed in my PhD thesis. After 10 years and age 65 my bone mineral density has improved from being good to even better. And yes, if you need to ask about how to motivate yourself to get to the gym, don’t waste your money.
You have a limited amount of willpower. And if circumstances change, such as the gym closed, will you still keep up the exercise habit? You need to use all the tools
A very basic, 4 exercise routine took me about 30-45 minutes. It made me feel accomplished and was just challenging enough to make me feel very (necessarily) sore for the first week or two. It was the key to breaking back into the gym routine after 10 years off.
To me its you gotta keep riding the wave. Once it becomes a habit its easy but a few days off its so hard to get back on the saddle. Make sure you dont keep too long of a distance between time at gym or itll be tough to get yourself to go. And just make it a habit. Worked for me
It certainly does take that extra motivation. As a personal trainer, when I was single it was so easy guaranteeing 5-6 days a week. Then life got in the way (school, kids, marriage, injuries) and it took me reaching my highest weight ever of 195 to be absolutely disappointed with what I let my body get to and find solutions to all those excuses. Now I have that "addiction" feeling again and can't imagine stopping even with all the new barriers to exercise.
6:30 hearing this is cathartic as can be. I literally tell me wife whenever we are vacationing with her family, “let me go to the gym and I don’t give a flying you-know-what about the rest of the day”.
I go to the gym on my rest days! 😂 I just do active recovery, stretching and a light walk on the treadmil, but I’ve been going to the gym for 18 years it’s literally a natural part of my life now.

training vs going to the gym. training will drive you towards a goal. there is a social aspect to working out but its your individual goals that will really get you to where you got to be.
"When you wanna go I'll see you there, mother f***er". I've never heard this guy speak before but THAT is THE most honest thing I've ever heard. Too true.
First time I have heard someone say being sore the entire time between leg days is good. Happens to me and I always thought I was overtraining or my body wasn't recovering well.
I've never liked working out, i still don't. I go 5 days a week to the gym nonetheless. What works for me is thinking about my future self, a guy who is more healthy, in better shape, who has more energy. The version i am working on to become. That idea makes me disciplined and go to the damn gym even when i have 0 motivation. Motivation isn't always available. We have to force ourselves to do things that are good for us regardless of the mood we are in :)
My thoughts are, unless you are training for something in particular, a show or some sporting event, forget about numbers and what is optimal, treat the gym like a playground. Once you incorporate a sense of fun into your workout, you’ll finish each workout with a sense of excitement for the next workout and you’ll never have to worry about a lack of intensity. I find functional fitness is the best for this approach, although, towards the end of last year and all through January, I went back to good old fashioned bro splits and put on a good few kilos of lean muscle before I decided it was time to start running again.
What he sajd if u have to ask what motivates u to go to thd gym, you wont go/ stick with it, this is 100% facts ive seen it with friends and other ppl, and they all didnt last long term... fitness is about making a bunch of small changes, to the point to where your changig your entire lifestyle...
I just love being jacked and my focus is to get more jacked. That’s enough motivation for me 😂. Plus I have a home gym that I have put together over the years and absolutely love it. My son even started to workout … it’s the best! Anybody can be lazy…work for it. It’s worth it 🤩💪🏋️♀️.
Habit repetition is so important, one day you realize you just do it without thinking about it and then you enjoy it has it becomes part of who you are. Your body and your brain are used to use those circuits, it becomes a second nature and a need.
True but many people lost their fitness habits after gyms closed or some other situation that prevents them from going anymore. They didn't think about what to do if situation changes
I take the addiction recovery approach: I am not in control, and even though I don't want to exercise and have thoughts telling me to quit, I listen to those negative thoughts, don't hide from them, but then trust in my higher power, in this case, the gym lol. You can do it with lots of stuff. Helps you ignore yourself and do things.
Personally it depends if you want it bad enough and if you have goals. If you just go just to go because it's a positive thing, I feel like it's easier to say no. Whereas I want to get aesthetic and use it to either become an online PT or just an influencer. I haven't had a single day where I didn't want to go workout for close to a year now. Even on days off, I have this urge just to go workout. I struggle on rest days not on workout days, opposite for me.
Look up elastic habits. Most times you will try to 'pursue greatness' but other times you will only feel like doing the minimum. Ok at least do that instead of nothing. Unless you are very sick and doing nothing is the best thing to do that day
Dr. Mike, buy more of those shirts. Looking yolked in it. I watch most of the RP content, half for Mike's comedic delivery. It does look like Mike needs to up his calories if he is every going to look like Kyriakos Grizzly!
How do you get from hating the gym to loving it? (1) don’t torture yourself. When you first get started lifting, don’t diet at the same time. Eat. Then once you’re in a routine add stuff on. But if you’re weak and hungry and miserable, you’re going to quit. (2) surround yourself with encouraging people. People who believe in you and support your goals. Not their goals. (3). Do what you like doing. Not what’s optimal. At least at first. Try new things. You never know what’s going to click with you. I love climbing. Wouldn’t have expected to. But it motivates me in the weight room because it makes back day just an absolute joy. If nothing else, on back day I’m in there to work. (4) have non-weight related goals, small victories (5) make it easy for yourself. Pick a gym that’s close. Keep things in the house that you can use when you can’t make it to the gym. Lower that barrier.
I don't think Dr's Mike self reason won't anything for most people because lifting is his passion, but for the regular Joe, excersing is s building process of your body and your health, and there is nobody in his right mind that doesn't like the idea of being healthy and looking better physically month after month
I don't go to the gym, but maybe i'll make myself someday. The motivation is not a huge problem. What gets me is that lack of knowledge of what to do, how much, when etc. As a man i don't want to be seen in an environment full of guys and gals as a newbie while others aren't (this works the other way around for women). I know i can ask some trainer on the gym and he'll probably be really helpful, but i hate being needy or bothersome to other people. Until i figure it out myself, i'll be staying away from the gym.
I don’t really gym. I do train combat sports though and most days for some reason I never feel like going. What keeps me going is knowing whoever my opponent is I like to think he’s training and I’m not which means the difference between getting my head punched in or not.
I have an infinite level of inferiority complex when it comes to how I physically look & this is what has taken me to gym the past 8 years. I look lean muscular now compared to being super skinny when I started. My colleagues ask me how I'm so disciplined. I always tell them that Im not disciplined, it's just that I know how sticking to the gym over a long period of time transformed me & how each & ever6 day counts. And when it comes to daily motivation, it's simple, if you don't work out on a particular day who wouldn't have the pump & clothes just doesn't fit perfectly :)
So, to sum it up: Chris: How should a regular guy motivate himself for the gym? Dr.Mike: A regular guy shouldn't! Thank you, Dr.Mike. I wasn't going anyway, but now I have a blessing from a professional🤝

Dr. Mike 💯🔥

The hardest part for me is going there after I’m there i always go hard since i think well im here now. But honestly it feels weird to not go period.
3:45 looks like I don’t want it enough. Hopefully I’m not driving when my heart stops lol
So, to sum it up:
Chris: How should a regular guy motivate himself for the gym?
Dr.Mike: A regular guy shouldn't!
Thank you, Dr.Mike. I wasn't going anyway, but now I have a blessing from a professional🤝
