"I don't know what's scarier. The fact that everyone in this kingdom wants to run a sword through my heart, or that sometimes I just wanna let 'em." Not gonna lie, that line broke me. I did not expect them to go that deep. This movie is an absolute masterpiece. I'm so glad Annapurna saved it and gave what was going to be Blue Sky's magnum opus a second chance. And that they got the last laugh against Disney.
As a member of the community with me being aroace this movie means so much to me and it's message is amazing.i hope all in the community find the right people that support them like I did.
Something I think I caught onto is when Nimona first meets Ballister and says something about turning into a “blazing phoenix to overthrow the government” and then later, she turns into a Phoenix and overthrows the government, who was the Director at this point.
Oh my god...that moment near the end where you talked about that kind of hopelessness that queer people feel towards prejudice and hate...I cried at that. I still need to watch the movie, but...thank you, Raisor. Thank you for everything. And thank you for being an ally, and actually caring about other people, even if they're different from you. I-I'm crying again...I still need to learn that it's okay to cry, even if my schizophrenia mocks me for it every time I do. Just...thank you, okay? I really like your videos, and I really like you don't think of us as monsters. We're just regular people...and I'm glad you realized that somewhere down the line.
11:31 I took the way nimona made ambrosious's writhing so comical as a subtle hint that something is off. When I watched it, it sat in the back of my mind "man, his writhing is kinda leaning on being comical, i cant tell if that's the artstyle or if that's telling us something about what's happening" It's such a meta bit of foreshadowing that rewatching the scene to check if the camera was peeking around the pillar made it an absolute gas to rewitness.
This movie deserves all the praise it's gotten. Thanks for standing up for and supporting the rights of all people. The themes of this movie ARE needed right now. Being gay myself, I say thank you. You are a good person.
I agree a lot. I am glad I got to see Nimona and it was amazing, I love it very much! 😀 I agree that no matter what people look like, acceptance, respect, understanding, appreciation, love & kindness are very important.
Nimona is the reason why I might never pay for a disney movie ever again. A great movie that could've never seen the light of day because of "I love you" is outrageous. Also they are not releasing a alien vs predator animated serie for idk reason.
Same. Especially since I’m a homosexual. At this point, it’s no secret that they don’t give a penny about social issues, they just do it to gain more revenue.
I'd have to disagree with him about the director. Her character is more deeply explored. By the rest of that society. She holds all the ideas that we see through all the other characters. She just so happens to diverge from them with how extremely she holds on to those ideals in the end.
for some reason I have this weird image in my head of some sort of sequel where a robot designed to kill monsters is a lovable goofball that doesn't actually hate nimona and anyone who sides with her and even has really chill conversations to the characters while trying to kill them.
Honestly? I needed this movie. Especially with it's timing since I myself am currently questioning my identity as a potentially genderfluid person, one thing I love to do is going on the internet and reading every analysis I could find for the movie. It just adds so much more to the film long after it's finished, I highly recommend doing it. It's pretty thought provoking. Great review as always Rasior, from a member of the LGBTQ+ community, thank you.
This movie turned out way better than I was expecting! It’s a really good movie and I’m glad Netflix managed to bring this movie back to life! I will definitely be rewatching in the future 😁
This movie hits me so hard every time... Not only did it surprise me multiple times with the story, but it shocked me with just how much representation there was, not just the cheap stuff that barely shows anything, but REAL representation. I'm nonbinary + autistic so just about everything about my existence doesn't make sense to most people. I haven’t gotten to start my transition so I don’t pass yet but tbh, despite the fact that I'm going to pursue that, deep down I'm terrified of what will happen when I lose the privilege of being seen as cis. The looks people will give, the questions they'll ask, the unwarranted hate they might feel towards me just for harmlessly existing... Which bathroom will I be able to feel safe going into? How will my family treat me? Will there be a day that someone tries to harm me? It's all so much. But I know I need to look into it, no matter what people will think of me. It's my story. Nimona gives me hope and reminds me that, regardless of the terror and hate you might experience as a queer person, that there will be people who will love and accept you no matter what. That the baseless fear and hatred society holds can eventually fade over generations. That one day, people may exist in peace. That this is something worth fighting for. Thank you for standing by this community. It means so much just knowing it's safe to be here on your channel.
What is there to say, this movie is the best representation we have- and my god is it good I personally relate both to the LGBT aspects of this movie, and the- heavier aspects- And this movie treats them both with such care and such respect that I can’t say a single negative thing about Nimona, sure some aspects are as good as others, but they’re completely out weighed by the messages alone This is the movie we need, when it seems like the entire world is against us just for being ourselves, whether that be: Gay/Lesbian Bi, Pan, Trans, Non-Binary Maybe you struggle more than others, Depression, Anxiety and so many more Any race, any skin tone, any mix of races You are valid, and you should always know that there is someone out there that loves and accepts you for you, even on the darkest day, there’s hope Thank you for making this video, I cried many many times and it does just feel good to be heard, to be accepted and to be loved Truly thank you
My theory why people on the internet call films woke because they want attention and know they can’t be punished. This is why indie games like undertale won’t get dislike bomb because Toby (the creator) will just call them out immediately.
No, films get called woke because many of them have obvious pandering and political undertones in them. But you probably are the kind of person who calls everybody a racist homophobe woman-hater whenever they call out the Last Jedi or the recent MCU.
@@Nutmeg- Excuse me? The channel you’re commenting on literally makes comments about pandering in shows in some of his reviews and is very good friends with someone who does the same. I mean seriously, get a grip. Shows and movies that have literally 4 seconds of a non-cishet person even just _existing_ get bombed online by people screaming about “the woke agenda”. Clearly you didn’t watch the video lol Also, there is nothing “political” about human rights and showing that certain people do in fact exist. You’re not oppressed lol
@@Nutmeg- I think people call movies woke -- and think "wokeness" is a bad thing -- because they have spent so long mired in hatred that they cannot stand that even mainstream culture is moving towards celebrating difference. They're afraid of being left behind. And they could accept it, easily, for it's done no harm to anyone. But if hatred is wrong then they have been wrong, and that is something most of us are unwilling to believe.
The reason is why some modern movies are bad because of bad writing or just having characters that are just boring or just annoying to watch. I know we need representation but not forced nemona is good example (i think) of good representation. but guys don't have a war over beliefs if you have a another opinion than mine then that's great your entitled to your opinion, left or right can we just stop fighting each other and get along
@@ashlynbrown3728 "Forced" representation is nonsense. All queer characters being shoved through a purity test for whether they deserve to be depicted is holding us back. Until we acknowledge that all types of people simply _exist_ without our permission or context our progress will be incomplete. Left or right will stop fighting on this when the right stops trying to erase people from our cultural narrative.
I find it hilarious that Disney tried so hard to push Nimona down the toilet while they already have so many projects stuck in development hell: the Darkwing Duck reboot, the threequels for National Treasure, Tron and The Princess Diaries, every Star Wars movie, a Pirates of the Caribbean movie, the live action African princess movie, Sade, which I'm convinced at this point they turned it into the live action Little Mermaid movie. And at the same time, Nimona has gotten so much critical acclaim, Disney's neverending sabotage of their animated movies is biting them in the ass with a counting number of blox office flops! It's like poetry, it rhymes! They also sabotaged every live action movie that isn't part of the brands they bought or studio they own. I mean, I'd love to see another ORIGINAL PG 13 live action franchise but they don't care. Wish I would've gotten to see Nimona in theaters. We don't see many queer leads in kids/family movies or animated movies on the big screen.
I just love how ironic Disney caned this film for being gay even though they say they are "supporting" the LGBT community. But let's face it Disney will bend over backwards for China and cut these things out of the film for there cash
"Nimona" is definitely among the best animated films this year, and the fact that it managed to see the light day despite Blue Sky's shutdown is a big miracle! It's amazing how well they discussed the themes of this movie and how it all ties in to the title character, along with providing a very creative world that combines medieval and futuristic elements. I'm also glad Blue Sky still got credit for its production (including a nod to Scrat).
Thanks for this review. As a queer person, I actually wasn't a fan of Nimona at first. Everything felt really cheesy to me and, while I loved the representation, the story wasn't my thing. I think I have a deeper appreciation for it now. I'm still not a huge fan of the movie myself but I still love what it says on the community, what it does for us, and the step forward it is taking for queer animation. Thank you also, Raisor, for sticking with the community. It seems as though people who support us are always queer, aren't vocal enough, or act as though they can speak over us. I have nothing but respect for you, someone who the anti queer stuff wouldn't personally affect, being vocal without being deafening.
is it weird that I did see the representation for LGBTQ+ but I also saw myself, an antisocial autistic person in Nimona? Like, especially when Ballister told Nimona "It'd be easier if you were just.. normal" as I actually have been told that since I'm high functioning, I can't have issues and should be.. normal. It broke me a bit as it hit me harder than I thought it would..
Maybe it's just me, but I saw the tapestry and "legend" of Glorith defeating Nimona as a later event that we didn't see onscreen, and the childhood flashback as just one of Nimona's memories. Notice how Nimona still appears as a child while Glorith doesn't in the art? Maybe Nimona came back to the realm to try making amends years later, still appearing as a child, only for a now older Glorith to reject them again. That's when they turned into "the black beast" for the first time, because they knew the rejection was not just a childhood misunderstanding but a deep, overwhelming pain. That could have been when the wall went up, or at least started construction. Both of these stories - and maybe more - would have then formed the legend that the realm believes in. Remember that the opening narration enforces that you can never let your guard down, as if to say that the "fight with the monster" went on for a while before Glorith died. If that was the intention, it still could have been shown.
Also, as someone who is an invisible lgbt identity (ace polyromantic but only the Tumblr geeks seem to know/care what that is) who went through a very painful work incident this year that almost ended up with taking my life, thank you for the multiple dedications. I don't have it as tough as many because I CAN hide that part of myself, but when I choose to share it, I'm often rejected, even by people who I thought were on my side. 🖤🤍💜
This is one of my favorite videos from you. Though the part of the video showing all of the political stuff around the world was uncomfortable, it really shows just how messed up society can be, even around just what color you are and who you’re attracted to. I wish people could just let people live the lives they want. After all, we’ve all only have one. Nimona is truly the film everyone needs to see.
I try and try again to put Blue Sky's studio on the Nimona's Wikipedia page, and yet they don't add it! But all jokes aside, this is a good sendoff to the beautiful studio since Ice Age. 💖
I actually watched this movie before your long analysis/opinions about it (By the way, I watched it during my birthday which is the day this video premiered). And I gotta say, it was one heck of a ride. Nimona is the most funniest film I've ever watch in terms of their jokes (In my opinion) and I had alot of fun with it! Some of the scenes from the movie were very heartbreaking, wholesome, and pretty much LGBTQ Friendly, which is perfectly fine for me. Heck, even my Highschool supports the LGBTQ community last year. In conclusion, This was by far one of my favorites since both the Spiderverse movies, Puss N Boots: The Last Wish (Which you've already mentioned), and even Pixar's Soul. Thanks for the people who recovered this passion project before it was ruined by Disney.
I'm still glad this movie got to see the light of day and even though this was originally was gonna be Blue Skies' final film they still wetnt out with a major high note!
I came here for a review of the fun movie based on the fun comic I read a few years ago, and found something beautiful... In for a penny in for a pound I guess... thank you for making this
Ngl I have to disagree with the conclusion of the director. Although yeh it wouldn't hurt to give her more of a chracter but not standing out, I feel is the point. The issue isn't a singular individual it's the whole system. Ballister focuses on the individual, while Nimona points out the system that put others down and placed bigoted people in power. Also I believe showing how the director as gotten those fears, would actually weaken the character and the message of the story. Bigotry doesn't happen through one bad thing that happens in an indivual in the past, (most of the time) it's the reinforcement of bigotry through the generations, hence why we got the flash back of 'how it started' even tho it was still the people around that had fears. The director is the result of the system built around keeping the 'monsters' out. Also, also I'm suprised you didn't touch more on Nimona and her themes, she is TRANS AF!!! And I love that, her whole story is pretty much the trans experience, lol. Other than that fantastic vid! We always stand allies!!
Even though I do like the relationship between Bal & A . I kinda still wish Nimona had a relationship of her own or at least maybe have a partner in a possible sequel.
I believe that the choice to have Nimona's story take place in a half-medieval, half-futuristic universe I believe is not a coincidence because when you think about it, plus the message against the persecution of people LGBTQ+ It can give as a subtext that the years have passed that we have evolved technologically we still have this mentality worthy of the Middle Ages
You're so right about the Director - I was actually pretty disappointed that it turned out Nimona's flashback was about her and Gloreth when I had guessed that Nimona's childhood friend was actually the Director. If she had been, it would have given her motivations a more personal drive and would have made her hatred of the unknown/different so much more compelling. I can't speak to the original source material (I'm sure Gloreth was part of Nimona's backstory there too) but having all of this really intense history happen between Nimona and a character that is dead and gone kind of throws away all this tension/motivation that they successfully built in that flashback. If Nimona's friend had been the Director as a child and THAT'S why she hated "monsters" so much, that would have given the Director a much more interesting/believable arc from trusting ally to "betrayed" zealot. I get that they really wanted to push the "maybe we've always been wrong" aspects of Gloreth's overblown victory against a monster but I think there's a way they could have got there by somehow consolidating the Gloreth and Director storylines from two somewhat shallow/underdeveloped arcs into one cohesive, fully fleshed out character.
🏳️🌈For all my LGBT+ friends out there... Know that i see you, i hear you, im proud of you, your loved and deserve love... Dont worry... Things will get better and it will be brighter than ever before... I promise... Stay strong... From an aro cis hetero guy down here in Mexico... Trans Rights are Human Rights...🏳️🌈
Oh my gosh thank you!!!! I have needed this. Especially after what is happening in the us. I know things will get better, but my god is it terrible. Thank you.
Man talk about a come back, this may open the door for other films that will never see the light of day, people want some good flims with good writing and character that happen to be something but have their own personalities and quirks so people can either understand and relate to them no matter who they are
This might legitimately be one of if not your best video you’ve ever done. I do disagree with some of your points, for instance, while I do see where you’re coming from with it, personally for me, despite not having much of a personality I still thought the director was a solid villain and I actually think Horton Hears a Who is one of Blue Sky’s best films even though you don’t like it. But other than that, this honestly hit me with such a huge emotional impact especially with the real life footage. It actually reminded me a lot of the ending of Blackkklansman and how it showed us the hard truth that even if the film has a positive message that some people can see those in minority groups for who they are, there is still a grand majority of society that will still keep pushing the fear of change and progression and will do anything in their power to both physically or mentally destroy those who are different as we’ve seen in recent news. I also loved this movie and if it was Blue Sky’s final film, I think it would have been their crowning achievement. I’m also glad to see that you matured since last year with your Buck Wild review when you said that you were glad that Blue Sky shut down because they made mediocre movies. I honestly really didn’t like that because while it was your opinion if you weren’t a fan of their films, to me it felt like you were just basically responding with the Jeremy Clarkson “Oh no! Anyway” meme. But I was glad that this time you treated the Studio with the respect they deserved since even though they didn’t make the best animated films, most of their films were still highly enjoyable. Also, really hot take but I may actually say Nimona is my favourite animated film of this year so far even more than Spiderverse because as much as I did love that film as well, I do kinda agree with Schaffrillas on how the first film felt more like a fuller experience instead of being a part 1. But back on the main topic, I am being serious by saying this is a phenomenal video and you should be proud.
@@matthewdaley746 I agree, I also believe that that huge reliance on Ice Age was a major key reason for the studio’s downfall not just Disney buying it, because they didn’t have any other major franchise or box office success so they only kept making more Ice Age movies just to keep the studio afloat. So even if Disney didn’t interfere, the warning signs were still very present. Regardless, I still will have fond memories of Blue Sky even if they never made anything truly amazing with the exception of maybe the Peanuts Movie.
Now all we need are other movies scrapped by Fox after Disney bought the rights like Small Soldiers 2 and Return of the Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
3:40 *Raine Whispers being non-binary, a pretty central character of ToH season 2 onward, including being the protagonists, mentors primary love interest and, and absolute badass* "IT SMELLS LIKE BITCH IN HERE"
GIVE ME MORE LGBTQ+ REPRESENTATION DISNEY! 6:07 And they portray it as Normal. Like No Gay stereotypes. It’s just there and Netflix Respected Their Romance.❤
Trans guy here and all the love to this movie and this review. Not gonna get all heartfelt here. I've cried every time I've seen the movie. Nuff said there. Thoughts on two of your critiques. One was not killing Nimona or even leaving it ambiguous. We could _not_ have the queerest character ever in the first truly queer kids movie be buried. The "Bury Your Gays" trope (as the natural born child of the Hay's Code) has been far too damaging to queer representation over the last seven decades to kill Nimona. Maybe the rationale was that they needed a happy ending for the kids. But us queers, we freaking needed a happy ending right now. The second was how shallow the Director was as a villain. Yep, she was just "I hate the other". One character trait. Here's the thing. Out in the real world, the real villains we are dealing with, I don't care anymore why they are so hateful. I don't care where their homo/transphobia comes from. We've spent centuries trying to understand and empathize. I'm done trying to see it from their point of view. The real life people that the Director represents, Matt Walsh, DeSantis, the random SOB who attacks a queer person just because they are queer... I don't F'ing care why at this point. They don't have a character arc worth sharing and the Director didn't either. The core of this story was queer rage, queer despair, and how we as a community, supporting _each other,_ will get through this. And it's not through understanding those who want us gone at any cost. All that said, really loved your review. You put a huge amount of heart into it and it's very much appreciated.
I don’t care what people say. I don’t care when people point and ask me why I stand alongside “the impure and sinful”. I will do it anyway because the way they love and the way they choose to live isn’t sinful. It’s natural. And they’re good, flawed people like the rest of us. The people who call this movie woke and refuse to see it are the ones who need to see it the most. Because they’re failing to find the human underneath the “monster”.
I loved this movie, and your review on this was so good and the clips you added of the real world just made it even more impactful. I’m glad I found my identity as a gay trans man who is fairly queer since I can feel attraction to fem people (I’m not bi or pan, that’s why I said queer). But the things that are happening all around the world? I’m scared to be proud of who I am, or even go through the processes of making me more me. I know my country has laws within laws that protect these things but still it just hurts to imagine that some fella who hates our existence just go “no.” I wish there wasn’t so much hate.
I think after Gloreth betrayed her Nimona turned into the gigant black monster again, 'cause in that scroll she was depicted like that, and Gloreth didn't knew she could do that and that was what inspired the story, but the part that was included had more of an emotional point as you said. I would have liked to see small flashbacks when Nimona was walking through the city of the last tine she turned into that
I think with the Directors character you were right about what defined though you don't see the depth to that. The Director as a character is scared, its who she is as person, her entire life has been ruled by fear and that fear has hardened her into cold and hateful human being like real, the point she is who she is because she's scared raised on the fairytale of Gloreth and rules and regulations, I think its meant to more a real life parallel to bigots then anything else. But her getting rid of the queen not because of ambition or any other cliché but the writers double down on the fact she is that irrationally scared of the myth of the "monsters" I found it refreshing its not malice or need of power but delusional fear thats lead to who she is. One of the cool things that I dont think people notice is that in scenes in the movie she shakes, she trembles like 3 times. the most noticeable is when she sees Nimonas dark form. And in the end the fear and delusion being put into question sends her into an insane rage, because she cant accept that she could be wrong. I liked the Director as villain, feels like a lot of real people I've seen and heard about.
The best Blue Sky Studios' movie, to me, will always be The Peanuts Movie, but this one is so damn close! Thanks, Annapurna and Netflix, for saving it from oblivion!!! 🎉🎉🎉
22:53 too be honest i interpreted it as Gloreth grew up to be a knight and that the flashback was only the beginning of a lifelong hunt for Nimona that resulted in her “dying” and coming back in her teen-ish form.
PREJUDICE BREEDS STABILITY probably my favorite quote from Oda from one piece. Be because it says so much with only 3 words. He understands how the world is and how it’s always has been. He implements so many real world problems. When someone with more power wants to keep things the same they will use violence to do it
No matter what Blue Sky Studios movies may have some ups and a bit downs, but we need to love and appreciate them no matter what for providing great animation for us with good visuals! Even if Ice Age Collision Course was definitely not a good movie, but at least it's quality and good animation exist. Cause would we rather have another cheap Disney animated cash grab like Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild? Cause at least Blue Sky Studios put so much effort and focus and care to their animation! The animation and visuals are through the roof! Meanwhile Adventures Of Buck Wild's budget is non existence cause Disney are a bunch of cowards that won't take a risk😒 This is why people value Blue Sky Studios, they gave us Rio, Robots, Epic, The Peanuts Movie, Spies in Disguise, Horton Hears A Who and now Nimona! Memorable fun movies with great animation that shows how much Blue Sky cares about quality and always takes risks. We all miss you Blue Sky Studios😞
Personally, I don’t think RG deserved to fail. Indiana Jones though, yeah, it can burn in box office failure Hell. And that’s saying a lot cuz I love Indiana Jones with all my heart but I know what Disney did to it😞
I really appreciate this review for Nimona, it was an absolute surprise of a feature film to see and this review did it justice. To me, Nimona may be this generation’s The Iron Giant for a few funny similarities, it’s based off of a novel, there’s a great sense of fear towards something society chooses to refuse to understand, there’s a fun amount of chemistry between the protagonist and the title character and even how both of them end. I’m not trying to say The Iron Giant is a film that would make Nimona predictable, instead I’m saying Nimona may give off a similar feeling towards audience members just as The Iron Giant did.
I feel like The Director was more meant to embody a system, turn... I think like, systemic racism would be the closest comparison, but that's just for example, turn that into a person, they could fight. Cause she was way more complex in the webcomic, hell it's even implied that The Director is a monster herself, but since this isn't the webcomic, and they likely didn't have time to do that, or [insert production trouble here] they "settled" for a less character-like, more deliberate representation of... I guess capitalism lmao.
That was a fantastic video on Nimoda, how you edited the some things can't change, and yet they can, how you explain the flaws the movie has, and how you put a late happy pride mouth message at the very end! Comment editors note: my comment should've been made sooner but i wanted to think real hard about what i like About your video on Nimoda.
My friend doesn’t want to watch Nimona because they didn’t like the trailer so please say in the replies why they should watch it and why it is amazing.
So, I love the video and the points made in it. I would like to say though, I kind of think the director is perfect. Yes, she feels flat and under developed, and normally I hate that in a villain. But I love her. Because I know her. I've met her in my life. I've met that person so obsessed with their view of the world that any evidence against it is an abomination. Yes, she's flat and under developed. And the people I've met like that *feel* flat and under developed. And I think that was exaggerated in the director. I feel like she was meant to highlight why that viewpoint is so damaging. And she does it well. I don't feel like I'm wording this well, and I'm not trying to change your opinion at all, just want to offer a different one. Anyway, love the video, well done!
I agree very much, while I can understand razorblade’s opinion about the director as even I will admit she is pretty one note, I feel making her more complex would have made her less detestable and therefore not so satisfying when she meets her end.
I watched this movie again with my close friends in VR. I didn’t forget how hard it hit but I was nearly sobbing on the floor by the end of it. The climax GOT ME HARD, as due to unknowingly at the time being queer and severe familial toxicity, I felt the exact same way. This movie is so important. To everyone. To the little guys and the ones with their heads up their asses, to the gen alpha kids that think “gay” is a funny insult. Everyone needs to stop and watch this movie
I think the Director is supposed to be flat so the audience will recognize the characteristics that make her dangerous, and then make connections to their own lives: someone who insists they are right despite all evidence to the contrary, who believes THEY know better than ANYONE ELSE what is good for everyone, who is willing to kill innocent people just to prove their ideology is correct, who IDENTIFIES SO STRONGLY WITH THE INSTITUTION TO WHICH THEY BELONG that they interpret an attack on the status quo as an attack on their very being. These people exist. I see them on the news every day. I heard them preach when I was still forced to attend a conservative church as a child. I read their tweets spewing hatred so extreme it would be nonsensical if it wasn't terrifying. There are people who define themselves COMPLETELY by the systems of power that privilege them, and they are the ones who would rather die than admit "Maybe we were wrong. Maybe we were *always* wrong."
I read your comment on the Director on Twitter some time ago. I didn't agree at fisrt, but I do now after wathing your video. As a queer person who's had to deal a lot with religious conservatives (and I still do) I think there is somewhere in the multiverse a version of this movie that would've dealt more into the mentality of a bigot. In my experience, I can say those people aren't rational, they are driven by ideas they've become attached to due to their personal life experiences with trauma or by media manipulation. In a way, the Director represents the irrationality, but I also think it lacks a true commitment to trying to make her accountable for her flawed state of mind. Perhaps a verbal confrontation in which it's clear that she's so blinded by her emotions she doesn't notice she's contradicting some of her previous statements or simply has grown to not care and justifies them poorly. I think there's a lack of complexity in the representation of bigots. They're sad people that would benefit from compassion, but also dangerous in their acting. Maybe some day I'll be able to write a story that can express all of that. For now, Nimona is something huge and we should definitely keep celebrating this achievement in representation, not only through characters, but through a whole narrative that shows the world how queer people feel.
This movie although having gay characters doesn’t make it woke. This is representation done right! Not every movie with LGBTQ+ representation is woke. Woke is bad storytelling the insults the viewers.
I made chapters! content warning 0:00 goofy joke 0:08 actual intro 0:24 I just had to timestamp this joke 1:45 i could not help it don't judge me 2:21 the reason it WAS canceled 5:59 an excutive a day, keeps the gays away 8:34 the resurrection 9:25 is Nimona good? 11:03 the (few) problems aka TODD SUCKS! 15:41 LGBTQ Representation will never be the same... 19:13 some things never change... 23:27 how they can!
Just watched this movie on Netflix and oh boy was this movie something else! This is how you do an LGBTQ movie. Great animated film with good characters, humor, the feels!, and story! And i love how the Gay characters were treated as respected characters and spread the issues of prejudice without trying to push the whole woke thing down the audience's throats, well balenced! And nimona is both awesome and adorable! Great film! And great review as well by the way :)
Goddamn, this hit hard as hell. I'm trans, things just feel awful and hopeless sometimes and stuff like this movie just makes me feel a little more hopeful. Good vid :)
See I never carried who the main character loves or sleeps with as long as the story is good and isn't shoved down my throat. The owl house was an amazing show and Nimona was a great film. I never carried that the characters were gay.

Dude this might be the best review ive seen for Nimona on the entirety of TH-cam this gave me chills great work!
And maybe even the best review Raisorblade has done ever you should be proud 😊
Something I think I caught onto is when Nimona first meets Ballister and says something about turning into a “blazing phoenix to overthrow the government” and then later, she turns into a Phoenix and overthrows the government, who was the Director at this point.
Really clever foreshadowing.
When I watched it, it sat in the back of my mind "man, his writhing is kinda leaning on being comical, i cant tell if that's the artstyle or if that's telling us something about what's happening" It's such a meta bit of foreshadowing that rewatching the scene to check if the camera was peeking around the pillar made it an absolute gas to rewitness.
wait what's writhing?

This movie deserves all the praise it's gotten. Thanks for standing up for and supporting the rights of all people. The themes of this movie ARE needed right now. Being gay myself, I say thank you. You are a good person.
I agree a lot. I am glad I got to see Nimona and it was amazing, I love it very much! 😀 I agree that no matter what people look like, acceptance, respect, understanding, appreciation, love & kindness are very important.
So agree with you
Nimona is the reason why I might never pay for a disney movie ever again.
Except it's not well executed it could have spend more time on that point.
for some reason I have this weird image in my head of some sort of sequel where a robot designed to kill monsters is a lovable goofball that doesn't actually hate nimona and anyone who sides with her and even has really chill conversations to the characters while trying to kill them.
Genderfluid is nonsense. You can dress masculine as a woman and feminine as a man. Doesn't make you trans.
If Across the Spiderverse is the film we wanted, Nimoana is the film we needed.
What is there to say, this movie is the best representation we have- and my god is it good
I personally relate both to the LGBT aspects of this movie, and the- heavier aspects-
And this movie treats them both with such care and such respect that I can’t say a single negative thing about Nimona, sure some aspects are as good as others, but they’re completely out weighed by the messages alone
This is the movie we need, when it seems like the entire world is against us just for being ourselves, whether that be:
Gay/Lesbian Bi, Pan, Trans, Non-Binary
Maybe you struggle more than others, Depression, Anxiety and so many more
Any race, any skin tone, any mix of races
You are valid, and you should always know that there is someone out there that loves and accepts you for you, even on the darkest day, there’s hope
Thank you for making this video, I cried many many times and it does just feel good to be heard, to be accepted and to be loved
Truly thank you
My theory why people on the internet call films woke because they want attention and know they can’t be punished.
@@Nutmeg-
Excuse me? The channel you’re commenting on literally makes comments about pandering in shows in some of his reviews and is very good friends with someone who does the same.
I mean seriously, get a grip.
Shows and movies that have literally 4 seconds of a non-cishet person even just _existing_ get bombed online by people screaming about “the woke agenda”. Clearly you didn’t watch the video lol
Also, there is nothing “political” about human rights and showing that certain people do in fact exist.
I only have two things to say:
1. It seems like every time we take one step forward, we always taking two steps back.
2. Karma's a b*tch, huh Disney?
BTAS had queer characters 😊

I just love how ironic Disney caned this film for being gay even though they say they are "supporting" the LGBT community.
But let's face it Disney will bend over backwards for China and cut these things out of the film for there cash

I am glad I got to watch Nimona and it was amazing. Acceptance, love, understanding and respect are very important no matter what people look like.
Dude, I have no words other than…bless you and everything you do and are.
Man, your review legit got me sobbing. Brilliant work as always ;-;
There’s one villain who stands out is David zaslav the ceo of wbd and know he wants to merge to paramount
I know it isn't likely, but I hope we get a sequel. Maybe showing more about Nimona's origins and where she came from.
is it weird that I did see the representation for LGBTQ+ but I also saw myself, an antisocial autistic person in Nimona? Like, especially when Ballister told Nimona "It'd be easier if you were just.. normal" as I actually have been told that since I'm high functioning, I can't have issues and should be.. normal. It broke me a bit as it hit me harder than I thought it would..
I'm autistic and I'm glad to see myself represented by u
May the pride be ever flowing like the gorgeous animation on display in this film…

I just watched this movie and honestly beautiful story and the ending seems to lead to a sequel soon

Man talk about a come back, this may open the door for other films that will never see the light of day, people want some good flims with good writing and character that happen to be something but have their own personalities and quirks so people can either understand and relate to them no matter who they are
Nimona 2: A bro's journey to redemption, featuring Todd...only Todd.
This movie reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from undertale “Despite everything it’s still you”.

I know my country has laws within laws that protect these things but still it just hurts to imagine that some fella who hates our existence just go “no.”
I wish there wasn’t so much hate.
This video needs 10 billion more views
But her getting rid of the queen not because of ambition or any other cliché but the writers double down on the fact she is that irrationally scared of the myth of the "monsters"
I found it refreshing its not malice or need of power but delusional fear thats lead to who she is.
Disney also tried to cancel Sound of Freedom, which was a big hit.

Meanwhile Adventures Of Buck Wild's budget is non existence cause Disney are a bunch of cowards that won't take a risk😒
This is why people value Blue Sky Studios, they gave us Rio, Robots, Epic, The Peanuts Movie, Spies in Disguise, Horton Hears A Who and now Nimona!

This movie broke me man!

A comment for the engagement algorithm!
In my opinion the best movie in years
Concerning Disney and gay representation, I'm pretty sure Luca is about being gay ...
But not directly, more of in a sea- monstery way
I think the Director is supposed to be flat so the audience will recognize the characteristics that make her dangerous, and then make connections to their own lives: someone who insists they are right despite all evidence to the contrary, who believes THEY know better than ANYONE ELSE what is good for everyone, who is willing to kill innocent people just to prove their ideology is correct, who IDENTIFIES SO STRONGLY WITH THE INSTITUTION TO WHICH THEY BELONG that they interpret an attack on the status quo as an attack on their very being.
Great review!

@@fonsales5373 Thanks.
For me it’s “ARM CHOPPING IS NOT A LOVE LANGUAGE”
@@artikulv731 That was funny too.
Good vid :)
Great video.
I think the Director is more like Frollo, Dolores Umbridge and Anabella Rosfield from Final Fantasy XVI.
Great video!
See I never carried who the main character loves or sleeps with as long as the story is good and isn't shoved down my throat. The owl house was an amazing show and Nimona was a great film. I never carried that the characters were gay.
