Hey how did you get to see the number of dislikes on the Little Mermaid teaser?? Like I see some people are still able to see the numbers of dislikes but I have no clue how they do that 😭 please help me
I like how you had the clip of Disney and his brother. Disney was the dreamer. His brother handled the real world. So, Walt Disney could have the dream.
Ngl, every time you played those clips talking about the making of Pinocchio and all that, I legitimately got sad. You can hear the excitement and joy of the creators having been able to make such a good film, it feels so genuine, only to then come to the new stuff and realize that their success was reconstructed into garbage.
@@animezilla4486 So? The immediate success doesn't determine its quality, its initial failure was because things were fucked up from the war. It became an instant classic once everything calmed down. Successful or not those men put everything into that movie knowing full well it could potentially flop, that is one of the reasons why they did so. Back then you had to TRY to be successful, especially in animation. Disney now doesn't need to try to be successful, so they don't try.
The man in the red sweater holding up the drawings of Jiminy cricket looks so proud and nostalgic. It makes me sad to think that they took the effort and joy that went into the design of the character and ruined it by doing the exact opposite of what Walt Disney and the original team achieved.
My father was absolutely _terrified_ by the donkey scene to the point he didn't want to watch the movie because of it. I showed him the remake version and all he said was "That's it?" 😂 Live action remakes are a direct and utter insult to both the originals and the animators that worked on them
Nah, while normally I don't care for the remakes? I think it's the Fanbase of those originals since the fans do nothing but use those female cartoon characters like Jessica Rabbit and Cinderella as their fanservice pets which is so f'ing weird.
Y’know how they could’ve made Pinocchio staying a puppet at the end work? Have Pinocchio SACRIFICE his chance at becoming human to revive Geppeto. Think about it, have the Blue Fairy show up when Pinocchio, (Who still has the donkey ears and tail), is crying over Geppeto, she gently comforts him, but tells him, because movie’s gotta movie, that she only has enough magic for one wish, to make him human or bring back Geppeto. After thinking it over and remembering all the happy times he had with Geppeto, hearing his words about being his son, no matter what, he gives up his only chance to be human to bring him back to life. Pinocchio loses the donkey ears and tail but also his humanity, to his sadness, as Geppeto is brought back, with him and Jimmany Cricket ultimately proud of him for showing true bravery and kindness, with the whole “Pinocchio it’s what’s on the inside that counts” message, except here, it actually fits in with the central theme of the story, and is more poignant because of what he sacrificed for the love of his father, who gave him a family, home and life.
Just saw the Del Torro version and loved it. Honestly I feel like Del Torro was having a conversation with someone from Disney, and he told them a bit about his ideas for his Pinocchio, and eventually realized the Disney guy was writing what he was saying down, so he stopped talking before Disney could steal everything. Anyway, they actually did a clever twist with the real boy thing. In this version, Pinocchio is kinda immortal (and I think it is implied he is a reincarnation of Gepeto’s deceased son). Yeah, he can die when ever he is hit by a truck or shot by a fascist soldier (seriously watching Wendell and Wild I could not really see why out of all the recent stop motion movie we have got from the past two decades this was the one that got the PG 13 rating while watching this I am trying to understand how this Pinocchio wasn’t PG 13) but whenever he dies he ends up in the afterlife where he meets with the sister of the blue fairy who disapproves of her bringing Pinocchio to life as he will have to live forever as anyone he loves will eventually die. At the finale, Pinocchio dies blowing up the whale. However, his father is back on earth drowning, and Pinocchio wants to get back as soon as possible to save him. However if he leaves before his time limit is up, the next time he dies will be for good. Pinocchio accepts this, and dies saving his father. Thankfully, the Blue Faith promises Obi Wan Jimmy Cricket that if he made Pinocchio’s good boy he could make one more wish, which he was gonna use to bring himself fame and fortune, but instead uses it to give Pinocchio one more chance at life. So instead of becoming a literal human boy, Pinocchio gains his humanity by becoming mortal for his loved ones.
This would have been 1,000,000 x more heart wrenching/warming, and would have served as a unique way to differentiate this film with the classic. How pathetic and sad that the writers couldn’t think of something so simple yet so meaningful to finish the film with.
About the thing with Monstro, his design here is not my only problem, there's also the chase itself. In the original, it's more harrowing; they gotta fight big waves using nothing but paddles, they gotta constantly dodge him, until finally Monstro smashes the raft with his tail, forcing Pinocchio to swim to shore, all while dragging his father with what little strength he has, and the whale charging towards them like a freight train. Here, they just speedboat their way to shore,....lame.
@@EpicJoshua314 And they still failed at it, since he still looks nothing like the original dogfish, and barely resembles a whale. If you're gonna do a dogfish, just do a dogfish. If you're gonna do a whale, just do a whale. Oh, and if you're gonna have tentacles, actually do something with them, don't just whip them around.
Yes. Exactly. They were both paddling desperately for their lives, helping audiences to know how to feel. But watching Pinocchio turn into Dash from The Incredibles makes me feel NOTHING
I wanna thank you for bringing up the technical groundstones this movie layed on, animators and special effect teams need more love and spotlight nowadays
Yeah, but, the cliche about good acting, not, being able to save bad writing, also, applies to animation, beautiful animation, with, a terrible script, is a truly doomed combination, period.
@@snbsixteen6stars201 Yeah, Rankin-Bass made all those Christmas Specials, with, the same terrible technology, but, the story is good enough to overcome those deficiencies in a handful of them, however, the vast majority are, so, bad, that there's nothing to distract you from their terrible appearance.
Correction: it’s heartbreaking what Disney’s live action department has become. Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, and Disney Television Animation hold up the principles and legacy of Disney just fine.
@@mcthetoonster1415 Good thing I'm more of a fan of Pixar, and Disney Television Animation instead of those 2D movies since in my defense the fanbase of those 2D movies kinda drove me nuts even if I said Chicken Little and Big Hero 6 were my guilty pleasures lol.
@MC the Toonster No they don't. They hardly make 2D stuff anymore, and when they do it's badly animated bullshit like The Lion Guard, which killed the The Lion King franchise with its Gary Stu protagonist and awful writing. And the most atrocious thing they did was ruin Scar and give him the stupidest backstory for his scar ever. And Pixar showed they're losing their touch too when they made Lightyear, a terrible cash-in.
Modern Walt Disney expectations: Creating original animated and live-action stories, making new animation art styles for both 2D and 3D and exploring interesting concepts. Modern Walt Disney reality: Making pointless and soulless live-action remakes without knowing what made the originals great and destroying franchises like Star Wars. Old Disney >>>> New Disney.
And sliding by on MCU/Star Wars, gobbling up other studios/properties to paper over the problems under the surface and jacking up the prices on everything while delivering less and less. the old days: one big bomb could destroy the whole studio and almost did several times. now: Disney can have 10 bombs in a row and still make a billion bucks a year.
Me as a Toon Disney,Pixar,TRON,Pirates of the Carribean-only: Focuses on my TRUE Disney Childhood like my childhood movie and tv favorites like Ying Yang Yo! and TRON: Legacy along with my guilty pleasures like Hyperforce Go! and Chicken Little since I've respected and loved both Classic and Modern cartoon shows like Gargoyles and Randy Cunningham equally and I've done it way more than the Nostalgia-biased traditonal animated Disney movie enthusiasts who do nothing but simp for the Princesses. And Yes I DO have a better childhood of Disney than them lol.
@@animezilla4486 Honestly, The Jungle Book was the only remake that I found the best, and even it has its own heap of problems. But it’s problems are minuscule compared to the other remakes.
No because plot and "yah cannot do this so we won't show yah". Fuck Disney. Remember when Disney was just a happy place for kids? They should've stuck to that and that ALONE!!!!!
Hey that's right that makes no sense at least in the original he drank beer smoked a cigar and played pool. I didn't watch the remake and never will but I watched people review the movie and it seems Pinocchio didn't actually do anything "bad" also seriously the bad things the kids apparently did was drink root beer gasp! The shock and horror children drinking root beer! 😆
They probably did it since it happens in the classic film, following the story. But like you said, it makes no sense for the transformation to take place since this Pinocchio does nothing bad or make a jackass of himself. It loses its impact.
Mr. Walt himself put his heart and soul into making the original film with the crew all those years ago. This remake is no more than an empty shell of its former self. If he was alive today and saw this, he'd tell the executives "for shame!" I appreciate the original Pinocchio more than ever. I'd even cry thinking about that timeless classic I watched as a child. Daring well spoken review 😭😌💖
What modern Disney SHOULD DO more often - Make high quality original content like Encanto. What modern Disney SHOULD NOT DO more often - Make bland and soulless live-action remakes like Pinocchio (2022). When will you ever learn, Disney?
@@mcthetoonster1415 Pfft, well screw you if you hate TRON and Pirates of the Carribean then just because they're different movies unlike your favorite idiotic classics.
If I had a nickel for every bad Pinocchio movie released in 2022, I'd have two nickels...which isn't a lot but it's still weird that it's happened twice, right?
People like Walt understood that you can't just keep babying children. They are going to have to face the harshness of reality, which is why a lot of old Disney movies feel like they had more balls than the current ones (Hunchback, despite it being FAR more light-hearted than the original, was still very dark and tackled dark themes). Nowadays, people just use these original gems of their time as stepping stones for the woke idiots who don't have anything better in their lives than to virtue signal every single thing in entertainment.
It reminds of Jim Henson’s view on the Dark Crystal and its rather terrifying elements. How he wanted to show kids that it’s okay to be scared and that it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Or like with Coraline where the story is terrifying but Neil Gaiman wanted to show that being brave isn’t about being not scared. It’s about being scared but still going to do what’s right. That that’s real courage.
This only makes me more excited for Guillermo del toro’s version even more. That film looks way more inventive and nuanced than this film. And I’m not just saying that because it’s fully animated.
They also treat their audience like idiots, I think. "Oh no, we cannot show cigars and alcohol in a movie EVEN IF IT'S TO SAY IT'S BAD bc kids are stoooopid and will miss the point and will start smoking and drinking at the age of six bc they saw it in a movie and thought it was cool. Even tho it's clearly shown as scary and bad"
Regardless you can't put alcohol or smoking in a kids movie nowadays think about all the backlash they'll get from angry parents do you honestly think it's acceptable regardless it's being betrayed as bad it's not the movie's job to teach the kids it's the parents
So many people have argued with me defending the live action “well it’s not for your generation. It was made in a different time. It’s not for you.” So what lesson are you trying to teach kids then? Is it to follow the rules and love your parents? Nope. Is it that if you do bad things you have to face the consequences? Nope. Is it that as you grow up you have to evolve and learn from your mistakes? Nope. Or is it through hard work and learning from your mistakes, you can be rewarded and earn your successes? How is it that Disney’s Pinocchio as Pinocchio’s voice actor said survived for almost a hundred years and yet this pile of sludge already feels dated despite being out for less than a full year?
@@sophieamandaleitontoomey9343 Man, if Dickie Jones we’re still alive today, he’d probably hate the live-action remake and make similar complaints as everyone else.
Why did they make Monstro into the Brickleback from The Sea Beast and Irving’s monster form from Resident Evil 5? They could have made him just an ordinary giant sperm whale or even a giant shark like in the original story.
Pretty sure Disney thinks a normal sperm whale isn’t scary enough so they needed to make him as non-whale as possible (Even though I’m 100% sure every human on the planet will shit their pants if they see a massive sperm whale attacking them)
I literally teared up listening to Walt talk. Like you said, he clearly cared about quality above all else. Also I've never seen Walt Disney in a t-shirt before, so that was new
You know, it kind of brings a tear to my eye to see a masterpiece get bastardized so badly, especially after seeing those documentary clips. It's sad people just can't enjoy and appreciate things for the story and work that goes into it and instead want to make it empty lifeless cash-grabs and also throw politics and agendas into it.
The scene that got me when rewatching the classic was Pinocchio trying to fight his way out after being caged. During 30-40 seconds he screams, screams for help, moves arround franticly, then a thunder startles him, crawls up terrified and covers his face. He's all alone and afraid. In the remake, he just looks sad on his knees for 5 seconds, and he was never trully alone since there's that girls with thim.
I must applaud you, I really must. You explained with your heart how back then, it was almost dangerous to make this movie and the risks they had to take in order to make it and in the end, they succeeded with a masterpiece. The animators from back then deserve everything and I wish we had those animators for today but sadly, we don't. It's a shame really how reamakes now these days are just emotionless, I don't wanna watch them anymore sadly. Just yesterday, I watched the 1940's Movie and I almost cried of how beautiful it is, the score, the animation and how really impactful it is. I really wanna thank you for sharing the story and the process Pinocchio went through and how it meant a lot for Walt himself. I honestly expected this movie to be good because its one of my favorites and still is! Along side with the other classics as well! All I can say really is that, I am really, *REALLY* dissapointed on how this came out, I was alsmot yelling at the movie when I was watching it. Anyways, you gained a new subscriber! I was so happy on how you told us how the beauty of animation from back then when Walt was around. All I can say now is that... I really hope that Disney can imrprove on the future movies with something good, something meaningful that could bring a smile on my face just like the old classics. Edit: Of course, my mistake was that I didn't mention how corporations are over working the animators, make them be in poor conditions in work wether if its the enviroment of the workplace or the bad behaviour of the companies. I really hope that these companies can improve and be better, treat their own animators, staff, etc., with the respect anf time they deserve. Make them feel like they are family as well with in these companies.
I never planned on seeing this remake. Im just looking forward to the stop motion one on Netflix. I also get ur point on them toning down the darkness for the kids. Which I hate it when they do that in stuff like this! They need to know the truth of the world and how it can be a dark place at times. They don't always need some sugarcoated crappy fable to pacify them because of their overprotective karens of parents who lose their shit because they show realistic stuff because God freakin' FORBID we show a coming of age story of a 13 year old capable of transforming into a red panda get mistaken for having her first period.
Yeah, no, that character suffered from, "insufferable perfectionism," and, the, "protagonists," absolutely would be antagonists, were the genders reversed, no doubt, period.
First of all, my bro got a sponsor! Congrats, dude! Second of all, I can’t bring myself to hate this remake because it did help to cheer me up during a particularly emotional time for me…and also I might be a Zemeckis fanboy. That being said, if anything, this video did help me have an interest in rewatching the original and I do acknowledge that no remake would be able to capture the charm of it the way Disney did back in the day.
While I’m glad you acknowledge that, I’ll be honest you shouldn’t put your faith in one director. Zemeckis may have directed Back in the Future and Roger Rabbit, but he also directed Beowulf and Welcome to Waren.
Walt basically said, Put your heart out on the work your trying to present Same goes for the devs for Cuphead, they had a passion, and didn't want to lose the magical quality of the classic era, almost losing it all to keep going. And it was a giving after the game released, the amount of love and details in the game was praised and challenging to players. So when seeing Walt at the time, really setting the dreams of trying your best, you really think of what the industry nowadays is even doing.
Interesting that this Pinocchio just inherently knows right & wrong with no input from his conscience... and never is he called out for admitting to having difficulty trusting people who aren't his father, but he unquestionably trust other marionettes, i.e. people who look like HIM. This movie that made casting choices STRICTLY for the purposes of race-baiting made its main character a racist, and that's perefectly fine. 👍
Disney Remake formula: 1. Get a big name director/stars 2. Strip away everything that made the originals so endearing 3. Pander to dumb millennials 4. An abundance of CGI 5. Pander to the woke crowd Feel free to add on
I also don't mind Monstro being a sea monster either. As he has been changed around in various adaptations from a giant fish, and giant shark, to a giant whale so just having him as a sea monster doesn't change his purpose in the story. Plus his design reminds me of the old-timey maps with sea monsters on them so that was neat. EditAfterer some time, I've changed my mind. A giant killer whale is already sea monster enough, there wasnt really any need to give him tentacles. Hell, I initially thought they made him a prehistoric whale like basilosaurus or levyatan.
I personally hate it. But I would almost accept this if the scene was well executed to make him a genuine threat and danger to Pinocchio and Co. But as he stands, he’s not.
If Dickie Jones, the voice of the original Pinocchio, was still alive today, he’d probably voice his disdain for the live-action remake like how the late Angela Lansbury voiced her disdain for the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.
At this point, I’ve just outright boycotted the live action remakes (the last one I saw was Jungle Book). The only exception would be Christopher Robin; and while that was less of a remake and more of a semi-sequel to Winnie the Pooh, I thought it was actually pretty cute and charming.
Yeah, that's the best of the bunch if you ask me. Instead of telling the same story as The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh but in a different medium, it tells a new story that explores the question we'd all been asking ourselves for a while: "What happened to Christopher Robin after he grew up?" Such a story is well-told, the characters are all themselves, the effects are amazing, the animated characters actually translate well into live-action for once, it teaches good morals like "There's a balance between work and family," and unlike remakes like the Pinocchio one, CHRISTOPHER ROBIN DOESN'T MISS THE MARK ON THE ORIGINAL MOVIE. It actually feels like a worthy addition to the Winnie the Pooh franchise. So yeah, show your kids that movie. Not this!
Honestly lisening to both the scores for the Donkey transformation scene is funny how much the reboot dose not try, the old music actively tries to scare the hell out of you
For me the more they talk about this remake, the more they talk about the original. That's a good thing now because almost no one recognises this nostalgic piece of art in the new generation anymore and it's time for some puppet appreciation once again in a lifetime. I'm still waiting for Guillermo Del Toro's one. The Original cartoon is still an ultimate classic.
Thank you. Just. THANK YOU. You covered just about everything that I hated about the remake. I’d had some serious trouble even watching it by the time Honest John showed up because they’d already messed up so much. Why did they even need to add so much extra stuff, yet remove multiple original songs and a huge chunk of Pinocchio’s childish interactions when Gepetto first wakes up? What, they didn’t want to teach kids to literally not play with fire?? I will be forever pissed off that they threw in a weird little half-assed song for Gepetto but removed Little Wooden Head. And it kind of pissed me off a little that they messed with the opening song so much. They didn’t even have it start from the beginning! It’s why Jimminy coming in during the ident and then the Blue Fairy’s rendition a little later both sound jarringly out of place. I really hate how we don’t hear Gepetto make his wish, but we get from him and see enough visual cues when the wish is granted to HEAVILY imply that Gepetto actually wished for his son back or something. So Pinocchio is presented as some sort of replacement son. WHAT THE HELL.
Of all the things they could've changed, they focused on Monstro? They could've made him into this scary as orca, those orea whales are terrifying hunters in the ocean. The chase scene wasn't even tense, Pinocchio's got godspeed on and outpaces my boy Monstro by several feet until the very end.
I've been done with these live-action remakes for years now, and I haven't seen one in full since "Beauty and the Beast 2017." The last one I technically watched was "Aladdin 2019," and that was only the first hour of it. Between your speech at the end and showing all that documentary footage for the original film, it really emphasizes what makes not only the Disney classics, but also the best of animation in general, so important. It's certainly a major reason why I'm excited Guillermo del Toro's take on "Pinocchio."
Hearing the words of Walt taking about he didnt caring about the bank and just the quality, really make me tear up, watching what This company now have become, so far of what Walt Disney himself envisioned, how much these masters put effort and creativity and so much hard work, almost taking the risk to fail, to create GOOD, FANTASTIC, ART, that still holds up today, to what Disney does now days, even films like Encanto cant in my opinion hold a candle of these films did, now days is easier to get a truly innovative, passion project from SONY ANIMATION, than from the house of ideas, Disney themselves, is depressive and sad, now the only thing this company cares is virtual signaling to specific demographics, insult their fans, and produce bad quality content....like ANIMATION is not even Disney priority.....and was ANIMATION the reason why this company was created to begin with....you can't imagine how much hurts this.......Disney was my favorite animation company, now that is just nothing to them, remakes, super heroes, SJWs, virtual signaling, that's what they care....I will like to say is MONEY, but every company even Walt Disney himself wanted money, thats the norm....these people not even cares if they LOSE money as long they spread THE MESSAGE they want to say......this is sad time for all us kids who grow up watching the classics, the Renaissance, even the beginning of the CGI Disney animated era now is long go, replace by bad writing and horrible quality films.
Oh and btw - they don't assume people don't wanna watch it because of a race-swapped character. They CLAIM that in order to deflect valid criticism. Every single studio does this. And it's scummy. And people still fall for it. And it's sad.
When Maleficent first came out, I was excited. I thought the trend that Disney would take was going to be origin/backstory movies on all the villains, giving us new takes on classic Disney movies. Jafar. Ursula. Scar. Frollo. THAT would have been somewhat justified and THAT would have made them plenty of money, if not more! I could not be more disappointed about where they've been taking these remakes over the years. A shame.
The thing that bothers me about the Maleficent movie is that they made King Stephen the villain. I wouldve preferred if Merriweather had been the twist villain because it fits into the whole "watch the original from a villains point of view" much better. Out of all the characters who had wronged Maleficent, it was Merriweather who said the most heartless thing that would insult even good characters. "YOU WERENT WANTED." In the original movie, King Stephen was a father before he was a king and his daughter was talked about a lot by him, especially to King Hubert. Now Aurora's mother on the other hand, never once has a moment where she's talking about her daughter, leaving some mystery to her side of the story. There is a theory that Aurora's mother was having trouble conceiving a child, so she went to Maleficent for help and Maleficent literally used her magic to gift the mother with Aurora. The whole Maleficent movie shouldve been about Maleficent and Aurora's mom trying to come to some agreement, Aurora and her mother could've had some conflict with her finding out the truth of what her mother did, and Merriweather's whole point to being a villain was because she was tired of granting people happiness when she herself wasn't happy and maybe she could secretly be a dark fairy like Maleficent that reveled against her mother and the whole "curse" concept of the movie that has to be broken is to not become a villain against your mother.
Actually, you know that Italian text at the end when the book closed? It outright says Pinocchio became a real boy. That means they thought it was important enough to keep it in, but not important enough to actually *show*. You get robbed of the joy Pinocchio, Gepetto, and Jiminy all share about Pinocchio becoming a real boy and instead are left with the insulting, confusing, and half-assed ending this movie offers. I actually had to rewatch that ending two or three times because I wasn't sure if Pinocchio stayed a puppet or not myself
1940's "Pinocchio" is an earned classic.... It took multiple generations for it to sink and settle into the public's consciousness. Warning... to second-rate filmmakers posing as highly paid execs: You'd better have a clue, ( let alone a plan...) if you ever just think of doing a viable "remake" of an indelible classic....
The fact that I didn't know about this movie until 10 days before it was released, was telling for me. Disney usually starts advertising their films three months in advance. Turning Red trailers started popping up in the Summer of 2021, with a March 2022 release date.
The animation for the kid's fingers changing from fingers to hooves was done so much more masterfully in the hand drawn movie. In the CGI one, they leave it to shadows and just...no transition. Also, with it being shadows monsters that grab the ass kids up, it lessens the impact. Keeping it real people, like the original, makes it hit so much harder because it shows people are evil, and you cannot trust them. It shows evil is real in the world, even if the circumstances in the movie can't happen. The CGI one changing it to near literal smoke and mirrors may actually get someone into serious trouble one day. Vile people are NOT just smoke and mirrors, though they may do that to lure a child away from others. The magic of disney is dying, for their movies anyways.
I'm not going to watch it because I don't care about soulless live action remakes, but I've seen next to zero criticism of The Little Mermaid specifically that wasn't about Ariel being black.
like ive seen numerous race """fixes""" and at least one dude straight up make a racist caricature of live!ariel's face where she was a gorilla singing on top of a watermelon, i highly doubt the criticism is with the remake itself lmao (also am i the only one who was confused by the whole "pinocchio is a trans metaphor" thing when it came across to me as a flimsy attempt at a "be yourself" message that fell flat and made the whole ending unsatisfying)
I just wish they would've kept the passion and feeling in it and actually animate it like Encanto. Encanto is an example that good Disney movies can still be made, Disney just wants the money, and that's not what WALT Disney was for back then.
The irony of not having the kids smoking or drinking, is not only the fact that more than half of the kids are cgi to begin with, so it’s not like they’d actually have any argument about child actors having to act out smoking or drinking, but also the fact that the only reason those kids were doing it in the og cartoon was to push the moral that those things are bad. So for Disney to cut it out because it supposedly violates their “no smoking or drinking” thing with their kid friendly content, is completely going against their own morals
The reason as to why the original score with the donkey scene sounds so disturbing is because it has way more dissonant harmonies played by loud trumpets which makes the dissonance stick like a shore thumb ,which IS what you want your music to sound for this kind of scene ...In the remake it's waaaaay more conventional and the orchestration rather standard ... No much dissonance or harsh brass ,just soaring violins as if it was a freaking love scene ....!!!!!??? That clip of Walt Disney speaking made me cry ... Love this guy's work ...He's works will live forever ... Let the shitty live action abominations be forgotten like they deserve ... I'm anticipating the Snow White's and Little Mermaid's remakes to see how they are gonna fuck them up ....Because they will ... I'm gonna be entertained by them ... Just NOT for the reasons one should be entertained by a film ...
The Little Mermaid doesn't sound any better. Race-swapped main character aside or if the main actress is a better singer than some live action portrayals (looking at Emma Watson). Disney will change the main reason Ariel transforms into a human, and it's not to be with Prince Eric. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of a tale of a person with an obsessive crush.
Also it builds up to the huge crescendo and fortissimo of the orchestra on Lampwick’s scream. And even more to a creative point, the composer somehow got the notes to match in pitch to the scream so when Lampwick screams, it blends perfectly to increase the layer of terror he is experiencing.
@@Zoloft77 The 1989 film was not a masterpiece in terms of writing ...The original 1837 story has way better writing in both plot and characters ... There are much better adaptations of the little mermaid out there in film format ( be it live action or animation ) ... It's an entertaining film ... That's all ... The original story drove the point home that the main character an her crush will NEVER be together ,he functioned more like a plot device in the original story ... And by the end she'll get what she wants ( an immortal soul ) though her own hard work ,instead of relying on the prince to get it ...Sending the message that if you want to achieve anything you'll have to do it on your own ,don't rely on others to get things done ... Disney's '89 version though heavily flawed in it's writing ,it's an entertaining flick ...But Eric in the Disney film IS the primary reason for Ariel wanting to become human ,there isn't something deeper like the original story that ties them together ... Unlike the original story where she wants to have an immortal soul ,which at first she can only do if she made the prince to marry her out of love ... Anyway, point being ,Disney's 1989 version is quite the downgrade in writing from the original tale ,but is still somewhat functional ... They'll screw it up even bigger with the Live Action remake or The Little Mermaid, and Snow White ... I heard the live action's version of Part Of Your World ,but i wasn't very impressed ( if at all ) ... She can sing ,BUT she sang it in a modern pop style with some Marya Carey runs and sh*t ... The original melody was completely lost ...And in the climax instead of singing the vocal melody she sang the orchestral part which I found very weird .... It also looks very dull and under-lit ... They could go with more of the empowering ending where she doesn't end up with the prince ( a.k.a going more with the original source material ) ,but that would require BALLS ...Which as everybody knows Modern Disney DOESN'T HAVE ...
What a wonderful and heartfelt review. Going and taking a deep dive into the original, and *explaining* why you critique the parts you do instead of just saying "Because I said so" I absolutely enjoyed every moment of this video and all the work and effort that was put into making it.
Wonderful, just wonderful. Thank you for showing us the struggle, the work, the effort, and care that was put into the original. I loved Pinocchio as a child and still do and Jimminy Cricket was my first favorite character. It was the movie that inspired me to start drawing as a child and I still do to this day.👍👍👍
I just started making TH-cam videos and I made a short review on this garbage movie. The fact that your review is 32 minutes long and the editing looks great is awesome! And I love that you defended the original animation.
This remake is awful. It completely misses the point of the original. I made a list of everything I hated about the Pinocchio live action remake: 1. Pinocchio has the soul of Geppetto’s dead son. This makes Geppetto look even worse than in the animated movie. In the original I can forgive him his mistakes because I know he’s new at being a father and therefore doesn’t know yet how to be perfect at it but if he had a son before like in this remake, he should know that you have to take your child to school yourself! Also, this change makes Pinocchio look like a replacement which I hate. In the original he made him because he wished for a child so badly because he was lonely and never had one. In this version he basically wishes for a replacement son! 2. Geppetto still doesn’t take Pinocchio to school himself! Why don’t they finally fix that? This is one of the few things of the animated version that actually should be fixed! So why don’t they finally fix that? They should learn from the 2019 Italian version! 3. Pinocchio goes to school and is kicked out because he is a puppet. What????? Why?????? He should ditch school and go to the theater instead because he should be naughty at the beginning and make mistakes because this is a story about redemption!!!! Seriously, this destroys the entire moral of the story if he is completely innocent at the beginning! In this version it’s completely justified that he goes to the theater instead of taking the easy road to success! The entire moral of the story that you shouldn’t misbehave and should go to school instead of taking the easy road is lost! 4. He only reluctantly agrees to go to the theater, very reluctantly. Come on! He should be enthusiastic about being an actor and about taking the easy road to success! Here, he only agrees to be an actor because he had no other choice! The teacher even said puppets belong in the puppet show! So, he really had no other choice than to go there instead of going there to take the easy road to success like in the original! Ugh!!!! 5. The ballerina in the theater seems like his love interest! He is far too young to have a girlfriend and Pinocchio is a story about the love between father and son not romantic love!!!! And it should stay that way! This love interest only distracts from that and adds nothing to the story! It’s completely unnecessary!!! 6. He escapes the cage by lying! That’s a very bad moral! In the original he learns that lying is bad and that it doesn’t help him! Here, they make it seem like lying helps you out! How can you convey such a bad moral???? 7. He is captured to got to Pleasure Island and he only very reluctantly agrees to go with them! Once again, the entire moral of the story is lost!!!! He should at least agree to go with them himself and not say that he doesn’t wanna go there on the coach! like that he seems even more innocent! The whole moral is lost! He should change from a bad boy to a good boy!!! That’s the entire point of the story! Here, the development is nonexistent! 8. On the Island he disagrees with everything the children do wrong, and he refuses to misbehave! Like that he really doesn’t deserve to be turned into a donkey! And once again the entire moral of the story about misbehaving is lost because he doesn’t even misbehave! He is perfect at the beginning and perfect at the end! There is no development! 9. Stromboli is sent to prison and the ballerina takes over the theater. But I don’t understand for what Stromboli is send to prison because he didn’t really commit a crime! It’s not illegal to imprison a puppet so for what did they put him in prison? 10. He loses the ears and tail when he decides not to go the theater again but to search his father. Seriously? That’s all it takes to break the curse? In the original he breaks the curse by sacrificing his life for his father! Here, he breaks it by deciding to do something that he should do anyway and which he was already doing! 11. They find Geppetto before he is swallowed by the whale and he and Pinocchio are swallowed at the same time. Like that the reunion scene is not as emotional as in the animated movie or the book! Especially since they were only separated for a day not over a year like in the book or at least a few weeks as in the animated movie (because spider webs can’t grow overnight, he had to have been away for at least a few weeks). Like that the touching reunion scene is missing which is my favorite scene in most versions! (It’s especially touching in the 2019 version) Everything that is tragic is taken away especially if Geppetto was only in the whale for two minutes instead of over a year or at least weeks! 12. The story takes place on only two days! That’s too much story for such a short time! And besides they have no idea what’s the difference between narrated time and reading time! 13. And now the worst part: the ending! They messed up absolutely everything! Pinocchio doesn’t sacrifice himself for his father and doesn’t prove himself doing so! Instead Geppetto is the one who dies and is brought back without a proper explanation just by Pinocchio’s magical tears! Ok, first off, that’s stolen from tangled! And secondly, Pinocchio should die by sacrificing his life for his father to prove himself, become a real boy and break the curse! There is absolutely no reason for Geppetto to die and especially not to be brought back completely without a proper explanation!!! In the original the revival is justified because Pinocchio is transformed into a real boy because he sacrificed himself! Here, there is no real explanation how Geppetto was even brought back except through the tears which are now magical without an explanation! They messed up everything about the ending!!!! Everything!!!! You can’t even say it’s from the book, there it was completely different: In the book, Geppetto was only very ill, he never died, and Pinocchio has to go working to help him! Here, Pinocchio does nothing for his father! He doesn’t even save him from the whale because Geppetto dies, and Pinocchio doesn’t sacrifice himself! Ugh, this should be the great moment: this is where he changes and puts someone else’s needs before his for the first time after all he did! Here, this great moment is completely missing!!!!! This ruins the entire story! There is absolutely no development from a bad boy to a good one! 14. And he doesn’t even turn into a real boy at the end!!! Are you kidding me?????? That’s what the entire story of Pinocchio is about! It’s about a puppet who transforms in to a real boy because of his love for his father!!! How can you miss that??? How can you change something important as that??? At first I thought I could forgive some mistakes but not with that ending!!! After that ending I knew I hated that movie!!! It’s the worst live action remake ever!!! Edit: A couple more Things I hated that I forgot to add: 15. I also hated that They Cut the Song little wooden head because it's such a cute Song that Shows how much Geppetto loves Pinocchio and how much He wishes to have a son. The New Songs aren't good in my opinion and don't Show the Love of a father that well. 16. I also hated that The Scene where Pinocchio Burns His Finger was so short and was almost completely Cut. Because this Scene is actually symbolic: At First in the Story Geppetto saves Pinocchio by stopping the fire and later their roles are reversed because later Pinocchio saves Geppetto from drowning at the end. The book equivalent of this Scene is the Scene where Pinocchio Burns His feet Off and Geppetto Takes Care of him and makes him New feet. Then at the end of the book their roles are reversed and then Pinocchio Takes Care of His father. Disney changed the Part of taking Care of each other to saving each other's lives. So the Scene where He Burns His Finger is actually a pretty important Scene that is symbolic and it shouldn't have been Cut down so much. But then again the Remake also completely ruined the ending so the role reversal is completely non existent. Another reason to hate this Remake. It ruined absolutely everything!!!
There's an Italian movie where they kinda ship him with the Blue Fairy who is closer to his age at least. The original book does call her the little girl with blue hair. And it doesn't detract from the story it's like a throwaway line.
I kinda wish that instead of Geppetto letting Pinocchio go off to school by himself (especially since he already lost a son), I feel like it would of made a bit more sense if Geppetto was so overprotective of Pinocchio to the point he wouldn't let him leave the house, then Pinocchio's curiosity eventually kicks in, he gets fed up being in the house all the time, and he decides to sneak out when Gappetto is asleep
@@AmonDevilman which movie was that? If you mean the 2019 Version: in this one it didn't seem to me that They shipped him with her, she seemed more Like a sister than a Love interest.
There's also the fact that the remake adds a backstory for Gepetto, basically implying that he's making Pinocchio to bring his dead son back to life, which makes the movie feel so much creepier... and not in a good way.
All those remakes are losing their magic. This isn’t the Disney-Magic we used to cherish and love. It’s a joke. A cheap remake to make fast money (what other reason should they have to release a movie like Pinocchio at the same time with two others?). I believe, if they’d have put more time, love for details, etc. into the movie, it’d have been a bit better. But at the same time they’ve to accept, that all the classic movies were a part of this magic and a great success. To reach that (again) is pretty hard. And yet, looking at all those movies… they don’t even deserve the name “Disney” anymore. They’re cold, loveless, rushed and so cheap, that it breaks the heart of everyone who grew up with all those beloved classics. They literally lost the spirit of Disney… and they should feel ashamed for that.
So they missed the whole point of the message of the og movie. Or, well, the book. Did you know the Pinocchio in the book gets hanged for his crimes? They literally hang him by his neck. Shit's wild.
I bet you when the Little Mermaid releases there will be controversy about the actor just because she is black. Oh wait… I hate how people assume we aren’t gonna watch the movie because we are racist. It’s obviously going to be bad, the people who say we are racist are the people who praise the live action movies, like jesus.
While I do think some of the comments and memes and otherwise toward Halle are really taking things way too far… It doesn’t change the fact that this film is probably going to suffer the same problems as every other live action remake.
@@sophieamandaleitontoomey9343 yes people that are mocking halle are taking things too far regardless of how you feel about the movie people who mock actors for just doing their job are no better than the people on Twitter
Truth be told, I’m PRETTY sure the whole ending of him being/not being a real boy wasn’t supposed to be a trans metaphor at all, but rather a poorly done attempt at either a “be yourself” or “do your best” lesson that ended up being pretentious.
Do I even need to explain all of this! Modern Disney still hadn't learn a think and even though It's not Insulting bad as Mulan but makes both Lion King and Beauty and the Beast's Live Acton Movie a run for It's money being more lifeless and even gets alot of things wrong the usual, plus the fact that these new characters are mostly a mixed bag either some are pretty much worthless and unnecessary or other are meant to fill In the blank for our heroes to deal with whatever situation there In. In all honestly what else can i truly say; no matter how much they keep remaking/rebooting these there always gonna be the exact same thing; just here to cash In on your nostalgic, sometime misses the whole point on what made the original good to begin with, and don't even know what there doing anymore! On the plus side though; they made The Coachman look more tamed and less scary then the original cause no one else takes children to Pleasure Island like Gaston! How are you making Chef Saltbaker the *TRUE* Coachman behind It all and especially King Dice and Beppi The Clown who we're all modelled after that Infamous smile of his but Saltbaker himself stood out among the rest showing how frustrating he can truly being behind closed doors of his own bakery! Seriously though; they honesty miss the entire point about Pinocchio learning between what's actually right and wrong but here they make him too Innocent and more misunderstood to sympathize let alone feel sorry for him really got on my nerves and although Pinocchio himself isn't too smart In other fiction but that still like saying Mowgli wanted to good back but didn't want to entirely loose apiece of himself In the jungle and wanted to stay for a reason or Arthur/Wart was always determination but never knew his own strength and weaknesses without knowing the whole time without Merlin!
No one, as for Robert Zemeckis, The, Law Of Averages, finally kicked in, the last Steven Spielberg film I saw in a theater, was Tintin, in 2011, alas, I don't think I'll ever watch another one.
The only good ones were JB and Cinderella. Well Jungle Book goes second because the only con is that Mowgli not going home to the man-village in the end just missed the point in accepting who you really are. It's also one of the highlights in the original cartoon. JB remake is still worth a watch tho.
I feel the reason why jungle book 2016 and Cinderella 2015 worked is because they movies like the all order Disney remakes jungle book 2016 and Cinderella 2015 had soul passion and heart put behind it which is something that Pinocchio 2022 does not have
just wow i could feel the passion raisor put through this whole video very well done. and yea the part that showed the one kid turn into a donkey freaked me out as a kid
It's truly sad to see that Walt himself (the founder of this multi-billion dollar company) thought quality would last long after he's gone. It's even worse to know that he struggled so hard for his creation and this company, only for the guys in charge to then disrespect all his hopes and efforts as if they never mattered. Think about it. None of these executives would be rolling in cash now if Walt hadn't made a lot of sacrifices and efforts in makinh the Disney company as one of the pioneers of animation. And what did they repay him with? Oh just shitty remakes and sequels that would make Walt feel ashamed of what he created.
Can't wait to see the female character who will be the actual main character of Mufasa who changed him from a worthless asshole to the Mufasa we love. You know they're going to work that angle.
Wow, I am honestly impressed. When I first clicked on this episode, I thought it was just going to be another bashing of this movie. I thought it would basically repeat what so many other people said. However, not only did you surprise me with your valid points, but actually make me have more appreciation for the original. I never realized how much of a cinematic achievement the original Pinocchio was. I knew it was a good movie, one of Disney's best, but I never realized how important it is. I might actually rewatch the original. Thank you for opening my eyes, here's to Pinocchio 2022 rotting in obscurity, and here's to us always wishing upon that star.
So they had the decency to punish Stromboli but didn't nothing to stop the Coach Master from turning kids into donkeys? I would've forgiven this live action reboot if this was fixed.
The original, was, The, Poster Child, for, "Only, The, Leads Get A Happy Ending," this very small issue, wasn't, half as bad as the fact that he's still a puppet, in the end, only the terrible, Rankin-Bass, Pinocchio's Christmas, ended, like, that, it implied a, follow-up, that would, never, arrive.
@@kichiwas-hargan4775 Precisely, and, The, Coachman, is just going to keep on turning, more, boys into donkeys, but, hey, Pinocchio's, A, Real Boy, and, that's, truly, all that matters, seriously, messed up.
@@kichiwas-hargan4775 No, I, never, even noticed it, until, TV Tropes, pointed it out, just, like, none of the Jaws films, (including the original), works on paper, but, it, (and, Pinocchio, too), have, great, talent behind the camera, to the point where none of that matters, in, lesser, hands, a, severe disaster.
The main issue I have with the movie is while I think the physical animation and facial expressions for Foulfellow are decent, nay better than anything from the Lion King remake, his fancy clothes contradict the fact his character's meant to be a bum who pretends to be cultured so he can scam people out of their money. I'd be surprised if this version of Foulfellow didn't come from Catchfools, the town wear animals like him benefit from their deceitful behavior while animals suffer from selling off the most valuable aspects of their species like the peacock who sold his tail or the sheep who sold their wool. Ya know, consequences resulting from impulsive and shortsighted behavior.
My thing is, if Disney wants to make a statement about trans people, specifically kids, they could have done it with Turning Red- a movie specifically about teenage puberty and a time when a lot of kids start to question their identities. Or they could, idk, MAKE A NEW MOVIE???? Like guys??? You can make a good statement without destroying previous works of art.
When I seen the trailor for this movie, My heart sank..I knew it'll flunk, and such a shame. I do like Honest John though, his voice is well with the design and well animated...but nothing beats the OG movie
even though im born in the 2000's my aunt made me watch 1900"s cartoon tom and jerry ,mermaid, and other classics i felt like a 19"s boy, im 16 and i loved the nostalgia that 19"s disney gave so i agree with you
Italian here, and I've been familiar with the original novel that Walt Disney adapted into animation since I was a kid. I have some issues with the animated adaptation too, but it's mostly small stuff and I'll be the first to admit that, from a technical point of view, the original animated movie by Disney is to this day one of the most impressive things I have seen to date, especially considering the era's technology. But the new adaptation is an absolute disaster, with all of the problems of the old movie and absolutely none of the charm.
Walt's comments regarding money really hit home. Definitely shows a lot of gratitude and humbleness. An entirely different mindset than what we see in movie studios today.
I’ll honor the old Disney that it was once before, making really good 2D and 3D animated feature films with amazing animation, great stories, likable characters, beautiful soundtracks and interesting themes. Not this monster that Disney has become now, hungry for more money and power, making horrible live-action remakes and ruining IPs like Star Wars and Marvel (Post-Endgame).
@@anthonyhack1164 I was merely stating that while people has issues with some of these remix this is not going to stop making them as long as the money keep coming
Dude, I don’t think I have ever seen someone make a review about a live action Disney remake like this one before. I really appreciate that you are expressing so much about how this remake is just no where near as magical as the original. And I especially love how you explained that Walt Disney himself as well as all of the other people who worked on the original were just giving it their all and taking major risks just to make that piece of art that we all know and love today. Like I said before, I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone put so much effort into a review for a Disney remake like this before. And I just want to say, thank you for saying the truth. You have earned a new subscriber. Bless you.🙏🙏🙏
Instead of Disney using the money for more experimental and interesting long form animation both as series and movies, trying different unique art styles for both 2D and 3D, they use it for more soulless and pointless cash grabs live-action remakes that nobody asked for. I missed the time when Walt Disney Animation was very innovative. I will always love and respect the old school Disney. If you excuse me, i will go rewatch 1940’s Pinocchio and never touch the live-action one. Now i’m very excited for Guillermo Del Toro’s Stop-Motion Pinocchio tho. It looks beautiful 👌
Good news is that I believe they're planning a 2d/3d hybrid film for next year called Wish. Though I agree I wish those sorts of movies were the default and the live action remakes are either not made at all or just made every once in a while without turning it into this big trend.
Beautiful video! I fully agree. The director that made Back to the Future and Roger Rabbit made this remake. Let that sit in for a second. Just shows that big names are doomed to fail; fall. You cannot guarantee greatness as time goes on; The golden days of Disney are long gone.
Funny how oddly "prepared" Disney was for that backlash at the Little Mermaid live action remake. It's almost like they knew people weren't going to like it and label everyone as "racist" if they dislike the movie for any reason. They have been doing this for so long now with their backlashed content that it just becomes eye rolling at this point. I hate this era of Hollywood bullcrap where it's always "the fan's fault" and never the fact that it's just a bad movie. I am looking forward to that Del Toro Pinocchio movie, it's looking promising so far. I haven't seen a stop-motion film since the lovely Kubo and the Two Strings movie, so it'll be nice to see something just as good or even better. Ironically, his Pinocchio movie will probably be the only one people will actually care about, too.
Congrats on getting another sponsor. My only favorite live action disney film based on a IP in recent years is Saving Mr Banks. I liked some aspects of this movie but as always you opened my eyes to the really badness of this version. It was for me good to see Joseph Gordon-Lovett in a Disney movie again after Treasure Planet bombed at the box office. Doesn't make up for anything in the movie itself though. Thanks for another good and funny video
2D animation was on its way out, TPATF was successful, but, fortunately, for Disney, not, successful enough to convince them to make more such films, especially, after the disaster that was HOTR.
Your ending words are just amazing! I haven’t been a fan of Disney anymore since they went down that depressing path of no longer being about making quality films that go on to be classics and only wanting to be PC and woke, especially since it’s affecting their parks. In the words of my mother, if Disney himself saw this and what his beloved company has become, he would cry. But your ending words make me glad that deep down, I’m still a Disney lover and I’ll always love what came before and always have hope that things will get better. Thank you so much for your ending words! You’ve made me happy to be a Disney fan still

I like how you had the clip of Disney and his brother. Disney was the dreamer. His brother handled the real world. So, Walt Disney could have the dream.
And this is why I’m waiting for the Guillermo Del Toro version of Pinocchio that’s coming out in December on Netflix.
Ngl, every time you played those clips talking about the making of Pinocchio and all that, I legitimately got sad. You can hear the excitement and joy of the creators having been able to make such a good film, it feels so genuine, only to then come to the new stuff and realize that their success was reconstructed into garbage.
It’s a tragedy
The fact that the old times have more heart, care, and patience then modern day

@@animezilla4486
So?
I showed him the remake version and all he said was "That's it?" 😂

That would have been so much better! I would love to see that!!
Basically, exactly what happens in the del toro version
This sounds amazing!!!
His design was changed to more resemble how he looked in Collodi’s book.

Honestly, The Jungle Book was the only remake that I found the best, and even it has its own heap of problems.
But it’s problems are minuscule compared to the other remakes.
Why did Pinocchio even get donkey ears in the remake when he did nothing bad at Pleasure Island? Did they ever explain?
No because plot and "yah cannot do this so we won't show yah". Fuck Disney. Remember when Disney was just a happy place for kids? They should've stuck to that and that ALONE!!!!!
Hey that's right that makes no sense at least in the original he drank beer smoked a cigar and played pool. I didn't watch the remake and never will but I watched people review the movie and it seems Pinocchio didn't actually do anything "bad" also seriously the bad things the kids apparently did was drink root beer gasp! The shock and horror children drinking root beer! 😆
"The original did it."
That's all the explanation you will get from those hack frauds at modern Disney.
@@mysticloverfairy1 he literally did nothing but watch “bad” kids do dumb shit while on a log flume 💀

It’s not for you.”
So what lesson are you trying to teach kids then? Is it to follow the rules and love your parents? Nope. Is it that if you do bad things you have to face the consequences? Nope. Is it that as you grow up you have to evolve and learn from your mistakes? Nope. Or is it through hard work and learning from your mistakes, you can be rewarded and earn your successes?
How is it that Disney’s Pinocchio as Pinocchio’s voice actor said survived for almost a hundred years and yet this pile of sludge already feels dated despite being out for less than a full year?

Why did they make Monstro into the Brickleback from The Sea Beast and Irving’s monster form from Resident Evil 5? They could have made him just an ordinary giant sperm whale or even a giant shark like in the original story.
He looks like he would fit more in Monster Trucks 2018.
It even had a Mosasaurus-like head! Basically Disney trying to cash in on the Jurassic World trilogy

Too bad that the current head of Disney cares most about quantity.
You know what Imma say it, this movie almost had its own plot of Pinocchio not trusting anyone who was "real," but they threw that away too.
That would have been interesting
I had the same reaction when I saw Dumbo 2019. And you can probably guess my thoughts on the movie after watching it. 😑
It's not the animators that are the issue.
That's nice.
While I’m glad you acknowledge that, I’ll be honest you shouldn’t put your faith in one director. Zemeckis may have directed Back in the Future and Roger Rabbit, but he also directed Beowulf and Welcome to Waren.
I'm not mad at you for that, I sorta enjoyed Polar Express imo as my guilty pleasure and had fond memories of it lol.
Walt basically said, Put your heart out on the work your trying to present
Same goes for the devs for Cuphead, they had a passion, and didn't want to lose the magical quality of the classic era, almost losing it all to keep going.
What was disappointing was that we don't get a climatic chase scene like from the original. They just got away from him that easily.

Is anyone who worked on the original movie still alive to see this happen?
I sincerely hope not.
Actually, not
If Dickie Jones, the voice of the original Pinocchio, was still alive today, he’d probably voice his disdain for the live-action remake like how the late Angela Lansbury voiced her disdain for the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.
At this point, I’ve just outright boycotted the live action remakes (the last one I saw was Jungle Book). The only exception would be Christopher Robin; and while that was less of a remake and more of a semi-sequel to Winnie the Pooh, I thought it was actually pretty cute and charming.
The jungle book was good
Yeah, that's the best of the bunch if you ask me.
Not this!
Honestly lisening to both the scores for the Donkey transformation scene is funny how much the reboot dose not try, the old music actively tries to scare the hell out of you
Now I have a whole new appreciation for Pinocchio I never thought I’d have.
Exactly how I feel. Even as a kid I always had appreciation for these 2D movies, even more so now since the Remakes came out..
Oh god is that the CGI in the movie? I didnt watch this remake but god damn, Disney did not give a FUCK.
0:10 Looks like that guy got a bit too excited
Of all the things they could've changed, they focused on Monstro? They could've made him into this scary as orca, those orea whales are terrifying hunters in the ocean. The chase scene wasn't even tense, Pinocchio's got godspeed on and outpaces my boy Monstro by several feet until the very end.
I can vouch. I'm TERRIFIED of orcas, so much so that I can't even look at pictures of them without being creeped out
I've been done with these live-action remakes for years now, and I haven't seen one in full since "Beauty and the Beast 2017." The last one I technically watched was "Aladdin 2019," and that was only the first hour of it.
Between your speech at the end and showing all that documentary footage for the original film, it really emphasizes what makes not only the Disney classics, but also the best of animation in general, so important. It's certainly a major reason why I'm excited Guillermo del Toro's take on "Pinocchio."

"YOU WERENT WANTED."
In the original movie, King Stephen was a father before he was a king and his daughter was talked about a lot by him, especially to King Hubert.

*So let’s just replace it with candy and root beer* 😂
I don’t even remember if there was music like that in the remake’s donkey scene. Maybe some whimsical shit like in Harry Potter was all I remembered.
@@Zoloft77 Yeah those new characters are gonna impact Ariel’s motive.

Wonderful, just wonderful. Thank you for showing us the struggle, the work, the effort, and care that was put into the original. I just started making TH-cam videos and I made a short review on this garbage movie. The fact that your review is 32 minutes long and the editing looks great is awesome! And I love that you defended the original animation.
This remake is awful. It completely misses the point of the original. I made a list of everything I hated about the Pinocchio live action remake:
Edit: A couple more Things I hated that I forgot to add:
@@oliviamorales9406 this Sounds so much better than what we got and makes more sense in this New context
@@AmonDevilman which movie was that? If you mean the 2019 Version: in this one it didn't seem to me that They shipped him with her, she seemed more Like a sister than a Love interest.
@@mariechen4375 It's Pinocchio by Enzo D'Alo. I do remember he calls her explicitly girlfriend.
Disney hasn't taken it to heart "If it's not broke don't fix it"
There's also the fact that the remake adds a backstory for Gepetto, basically implying that he's making Pinocchio to bring his dead son back to life, which makes the movie feel so much creepier... and not in a good way.
It also blatantly rips off Astro Boy, which makes it even worse.
Seriously, that fact about Stromboli's wagon is so cool!
I bet you when the Little Mermaid releases there will be controversy about the actor just because she is black. Oh wait…
I hate how people assume we aren’t gonna watch the movie because we are racist. It’s obviously going to be bad, the people who say we are racist are the people who praise the live action movies, like jesus.
While I do think some of the comments and memes and otherwise toward Halle are really taking things way too far…
It doesn’t change the fact that this film is probably going to suffer the same problems as every other live action remake.
@@sophieamandaleitontoomey9343 yes people that are mocking halle are taking things too far regardless of how you feel about the movie people who mock actors for just doing their job are no better than the people on Twitter
Mulan was absolutely terrible, you can’t make a worse remake right?
Disney: hold my *root* beer
Truth be told, I’m PRETTY sure the whole ending of him being/not being a real boy wasn’t supposed to be a trans metaphor at all, but rather a poorly done attempt at either a “be yourself” or “do your best” lesson that ended up being pretentious.
0:20 It's sad how accurate the "Overpaid Disney Executive" is.
Who on earth keeps asking for these godforsaken remakes? Why does Disney continue to beat this dead horse? What the hell happened to Robert Zemeckis?
No one, as for Robert Zemeckis, The, Law Of Averages, finally kicked in, the last Steven Spielberg film I saw in a theater, was Tintin, in 2011, alas, I don't think I'll ever watch another one.
@@matthewdaley746 The Walk was the last good Robert Zemeckis film.
@@shadowleon659 I never saw it, I watched a documentary, and, that would satisfy my curiosity, as far as that was concerned.
Every Disney live-action remake is an insult.
The only good ones were JB and Cinderella. Well Jungle Book goes second because the only con is that Mowgli not going home to the man-village in the end just missed the point in accepting who you really are. It's also one of the highlights in the original cartoon. JB remake is still worth a watch tho.
@@TheLazyFusspot_3428 I agree
What’s worse is that I actually thought it was gonna be a good remake.. and Disney blew it up..
Having Soda be a bad thing in the remake seems like something my grandpa's grandpa would do.
Hey, NONE of the villains were punished in the original.
@@kichiwas-hargan4775 Precisely, and, The, Coachman, is just going to keep on turning, more, boys into donkeys, but, hey, Pinocchio's, A, Real Boy, and, that's, truly, all that matters, seriously, messed up.
@@matthewdaley746 That's one of the things you don't like about the original, huh?
@@kichiwas-hargan4775 No, I, never, even noticed it, until, TV Tropes, pointed it out, just, like, none of the Jaws films, (including the original), works on paper, but, it, (and, Pinocchio, too), have, great, talent behind the camera, to the point where none of that matters, in, lesser, hands, a, severe disaster.
Coming soon to theaters dinosaur 2025, atlantis the lost empire 2026, treasure planet 2027, brother bear 2028. Boy I hope this doesn't become true
I do like Honest John though, his voice is well with the design and well animated...but nothing beats the OG movie
even though im born in the 2000's
my aunt made me watch 1900"s cartoon
tom and jerry ,mermaid, and other classics
i felt like a 19"s boy, im 16 and i loved the nostalgia that 19"s disney gave
so i agree with you
Italian here, and I've been familiar with the original novel that Walt Disney adapted into animation since I was a kid.
Did the remake are so horrible why they're making money
@@animezilla4486 A lot of horrible things make money, what are you on about?

I heard about Wish. It’s looks really good. Hopefully this will be a new Renaissance for Disney.
What I loved about Del Torro’s Pinocchio is what a total menace he is. You know, like a real young impressionable boy.
Ah, man, Kubo is such a beautiful film! I never get tired of it!
So disney, we can have kids being stabbed with lazer swords in amphibia but we can't have pinocchio smoking? you make so mutch sence you know?
You’ve made me happy to be a Disney fan still
You don’t wanna know how made I got when I saw the live action of mulan, like WTH DID YOU REPLACE THE DRAGON, HOW DID YOUR SCARF OR CURTAIN WHATEVER IT WAS MOVE LIKE THAT, AND WHY WAS SHE A PARKOUR ARTIST???
Thank you for putting parts of the documentary in there I'm going to watch it as soon as I can. Pinocchio has always been my favorite Disney movie, always and I'm not going to muddy my memories of it by watching this remake, I want my memories to live in the perfection of the original Pinocchio. subscribed
The ending is horrible, twofold: 1) It's what you 'identify with' that matters! 2) If he's not a boy yet, we can DO SEQUELS!
To be fair, I’d rather get new original stories than frame by frame CGI movies of animated classics. Looking forward to Mufasa
