My cat had a urinary blockage and infection , but the blockage wasn’t crystals. Knowing to feel his bladder is very helpful. That’s what the vet did and cleared the obstruction and put him on antibiotics for the infection. He’s doing well. Wish I knew this beforehand. Good video.

Royal Canin fiber response works. We had 2 trips to the vet in one week as our cat was constipated. Vet recommended Royal Canin. After a week of very little dropping in his litter box he dropped a very long hairball pooh followed by another. Thats what it was, a hairball he didn't throw up and went thru to the other end.

Constipated cats are always cats that are given dry food to eat. I stopped giving my cats dry food and their constipation got better, but not cured. I put old fashioned cooked oatmeal in their wet food, this works. I also put spring water in their wet food. Now I have to keep a small bottle of water next to their wet food, because they won't eat it now and want it refreshed with water till it's the consistency of a stew.

I am dealing with the same thing with my lil girl. My vet found that her colon is holding 4 times the amount of cat poop and it has difficulty coming out. So we immediately started her on a liquid laxative he gave me because the pumpkin, olive oil with water I gave wasn’t helping so I started her on the laxative yesterday so she can start breaking it down in her system until she can pass it and it comes out. If it doesn’t happen within the next 7-8 days, he said I may have to get her surgery so they can open it up and remove it. God I am praying that she can pass it and get rid of it naturally. That’s what I am waiting on and monitoring her while giving lil bit wet food and lots of water. He also gave her some IV fluids yesterday to help.

Kitty was straining this morning all hunched up
I have been giving them diatomaceous earth for round worms ( 1 week on 1 week off and back on 1 week; 1 teas twice a day). So I thought maybe she was constipated from that.
She was quivering in her lower back so then I thought it might be a urinary blocking which made me afraid to administer water. So stuck in the middle of what I should do. I learned from your video how to check for which it could be.
Her stomach and bladder area felt relaxed but she was getting worse.
I gave her a dose of some kitty laxative containing; Liquid petroleum, cod liver oil, and soybean oil.
2 hours later she was still not any better. I don’t have any money for the vet so I decided to give her an enema.
I used a 1 ml. syringe and administered 4. of them. I had to hold her in a towel facing backwards between my legs and lift her tail high tail high. Be sure you sand the syringe to smooth any rough edges before doing this and lubricate it with whatever you have available
I held her by the gruff and placed her in the litter box and in about 30 seconds she pooped out to pretty long turds.
They sounded like 2 rocks when they hit the plastic side of the litter box.
She is still sitting in the litter box and it has been about 30 minutes.
I will up date you on her progress, I think she’s still really backed up inside.
    Thank you Dr. Jones !😊

Thanks for this, and apologies in advance for the long comment/question. Our 8yo. female cat has had intermittent constipation for years--she is on a commercial raw diet & drinks water. She also has difficulty getting up hairballs, and when she does vomit one (a few times a year at most), they are quite large & she ends up with digestive upset/vomiting foamy bile for 2-3 days. Last episode we had to call our mobile vet who determined she was compacted with stool; they gave her an enema + recommended miralax BID for 2 weeks & she's been good for a couple months; but just had another episode tonight, and I wonder if stress ever plays a roll with this issue...she's been extra stressed this week (our dog being inside with the weather turning cold). Thank you!!!

I put a bit in her usual food and have never seen this finicky eater eat so quickly, Wow! I then put just a tad (as to not waste) in a food she had recently started turning her nose up to (though I know it is a good one) since I introduced a new protein, trying to start a little rotation..and she is eating it right up again. I was looking forward to the great formulation of ingredients in this but now I also have real hope in her gaining some weight, some more healthy muscle. 🧡THANK YOU FOR THE GOOD DEAL ON THIS GREAT SUPPLEMENT DR JONES🧡

It's hard with 3 cats. 1 of the 3 cats poops at least once a week outside the box. She meows VERY loudly and sounds distressed before she poops. I always know when she's getting ready to poop outside the box because of her vocalization. She's been on Prozac for for around 3 years for peeing outside the box. This was a last ditch effort as I had tried everything except a behaviorist which is super expensive. I was shocked at the cost frankly. She's having breakthrough peeing every so often. She always held her pee for a long time before going to the box. She then pees a TON all at once and then flies out of the box. I've tried no less than a dozen different kinds and brands of litter over the last 5 years. I've had various kinds of litter boxes and have settled on a high sided open top one. Still, she's a nervous cat. She's made great strides in 5 years. She gets on the bed with me every night for a few hours. She hops up on my chair to be brushed in the mornings and I take her out to the fenced in back yard for around 30min-1hour daily. I've read that grounding could help stressed out cats....it hasn't. So while she's made progress in our personal relationship, she's gone backwards in her litter box habits. The first year we had her, she always went in the box. The first day we got her she went straight to the box. She was a stray my husband found at a hotel when he was out for town working, but she was being fed by the employees, so not feral, but definitely has a touch of that I think. Anyway, don't know what to do now. I can't let her damage the entire house. But I can't give her up or put her out either. So I'm stuck....just waiting to see how long it'll be before I find that she's peed on something again.
Her poops are usually normal looking, albeit very large for a cat, imo

I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, O Lord, show this also to thy servant: whether after death, as soon as every one of us yields up his soul, we shall be kept in rest until those times come when thou wilt renew the creation, or whether we shall be tormented at once?" 76 He answered me and said, "I will show you that also, but do not be associated with those who have shown scorn, nor number yourself among those who are tormented. 77 For you have a treasure of works laid up with the Most High; but it will not be shown to you until the last times.
78 Now, concerning death, the teaching is: When the decisive decree has gone forth from the Most High that a man shall die, as the spirit leaves the body to return again to him who gave it, first of all it adores the glory of the Most High. 79 And if it is one of those who have shown scorn and have not kept the way of the Most High, and who have despised his law, and who have hated those who fear the Most High -- 80 such spirits shall not enter into habitations, but shall immediately wander about in torments, ever grieving and sad, in seven ways.
81 The first way, because they have scorned the law of the Most High. 82 The second way, because they cannot now make a good repentance that they may live. 83 The third way, they shall see the reward laid up for those who have trusted the covenants of the Most High. 84 The fourth way, they shall consider the torment laid up for themselves in the last days. 85 The fifth way, they shall see how the habitations of the others are guarded by angels in profound quiet. 86 The sixth way, they shall see how some of them will pass over into torments. 87 The seventh way, which is worse than all the ways that have been mentioned, because they shall utterly waste away in confusion and be consumed with shame, and shall wither with fear at seeing the glory of the Most High before whom they sinned while they were alive, and before whom they are to be judged in the last times.
88 "Now this is the order of those who have kept the ways of the Most High, when they shall be separated from their mortal body. 89 During the time that they lived in it, they laboriously served the Most High, and withstood danger every hour, that they might keep the law of the Lawgiver perfectly. 90 Therefore this is the teaching concerning them: 91 First of all, they shall see with great joy the glory of him who receives them, for they shall have rest in seven orders.
    92 The first order, because they have striven with great effort to overcome the evil thought which was formed with them, that it might not lead them astray from life into death. 93 The second order, because they see the perplexity in which the souls of the unrighteous wander, and the punishment that awaits them. 94 The third order, they see the witness which he who formed them bears concerning them, that while they were alive they kept the law which was given them in trust. 95 The fourth order, they understand the rest which they now enjoy, being gathered into their chambers and guarded by angels in profound quiet, and the glory which awaits them in the last days. 96 The fifth order, they rejoice that they have now escaped what is corruptible, and shall inherit what is to come;
and besides they see the straits and toil from which they have been delivered, and the spacious liberty which they are to receive and enjoy in immortality. 97 The sixth order, when it is shown to them how their face is to shine like the sun, and how they are to be made like the light of the stars, being incorruptible from then on. 98 The seventh order, which is greater than all that have been mentioned, because they shall rejoice with boldness, and shall be confident without confusion, and shall be glad without fear, for they hasten to behold the face of him whom they served in life and from whom they are to receive their reward when glorified.
99 This is the order of the souls of the righteous, as henceforth is announced; and the aforesaid are the ways of torment which those who would not give heed shall suffer hereafter." 100 I answered and said, "Will time therefore be given to the souls, after they have been separated from the bodies, to see what you have described to me?" 101 He said to me, "They shall have freedom for seven days, so that during these seven days they may see the things of which you have been told, and afterwards they shall be gathered in their habitations."
102 I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, show further to me, thy servant, whether on the day of judgment the righteous will be able to intercede for the unrighteous or to entreat the Most High for them, 103 fathers for sons or sons for parents, brothers for brothers, relatives for their kinsmen, or friends for those who are most dear." 104 He answered me and said, "Since you have found favor in my sight, I will show you this also. The day of judgment is decisive and displays to all the seal of truth. Just as now a father does not send his son, or a son his father, or a master his servant, or a friend his dearest friend, to be ill or sleep or eat or be healed in his stead, 105 so no one shall ever pray for another on that day, neither shall any one lay a burden on another; for then every one shall bear his own righteousness and unrighteousness." 2 Esdras 7:75

Rescued a stray cat that had been laying on the ground close to my home for 2 days in a row. Extremely docile, clearly malnourished, but swollen stomach. Medium tenderness, no bumps and no sign of pain/discomfort. Behaving quite weird as in will stay wherever you lay her, won’t move and has late reactions to noise. The vet couldn’t tell me what she had without blood work. At the moment im selling some of my furniture to afford the vet expenses, but I don’t know if it’s serious. Other than previously mentioned, very healthy looking.

My cat ate chips ahoy plastic. Like a small part... it hasn’t been the first time. He’s obsessed with chewing plastic but we always get it away from him. I have seen tiny chewed marks on the plastic of our chips ahoy only two times ever (he’ll get on our tables) and I saw it on our chips ahoy today. Should I be concerned? I wouldn’t know if he shown any signs of ill, since he’s a pretty lazy cat, he loves laying down and sleeping a lot. He hasn’t lost his appetite for sure. So I don’t know if he’s sick or not. We feed him dry food, now keeping it balanced between both wet and dry, but after research am gonna switch to more wet. He loves to eat, but I have been strict with his meals now. Please help, thank you! Also what wet foods would you recommend for good health and digestion?

My Booger (6 year old gray tabby male) sometimes eats and gets bloated looking and firm- but then a little later he's NORMAL.. and Ive watched- he is going to the bathroom regularly.. and pees and poops normaly (he has two brothers here and they demand I do the litter box BEFORE and AFTER each use-- so I'm in there working on it a lot! :) They all play normally most of the time- but sometimes he'll be bloated and NOT wanting to play- wanting me to hold him instead. He gets stew (chicken.tuna or chicken alone) and drinks just fine.. I have a filtering fountain (stainless steel) and they all 3 drink from it regularly as well as two other glasses I have around for them - NOT close to their food dish.

Is pumpkin usually good for constipation? I also am curious if oatmeal is helpful? My cat has stools that are pebble like which is different from her usual softer, "log-like" stools. I started her on wet food again. She pees fine, has no bulge when I palpated belly.

I read that pumpkin was good for constipation but I never got my cat to eat it. I think any kind of "wet" food is probably good for it. I'm still struggling with my cat's constipation. I just know a vet would be too expensive. I'm trying to wean her off of dry food only.

Hi Dr. Jones thank you for mentioning natural options!! My cat is prone to crystals and constipation. He's a big boy weighing 17 lbs and lots of long hair. I would love to learn how to check for a loaded bladder vs. a loaded colon.. also you mentioned CBD this little guy has been on Prozac for 6 years (he's 7) because he will attack our other cat (horribly and shes way smaller than him) if he's not on it. Have you found that some cats might be able to get off Prozac and use CBD instead? I'm always wondering if the Prozac might be contributing to his constipation and I hate having him on a RX but we have no choice. Would love to hear from you! Thanks and God Bless you for actually caring about pet's and how to treat them. It's hard to find vets like you!

Someone dumped what I expect was a 3 or 4 week old kitten near my house 3 weeks ago. She could not even walk right yet. She had all of her teeth though and her eyes were still somewhat blue. She is the most beautiful little creature. Problem is: she has the hardest time passing stool. Her anus is distended, or protruding. Her stool is very hard and I have to help her push it out which is very uncomfortable for both of us.
Times being what they are now, I called around for a vet appt 3 weeks ago when she showed up, soonest one I could get was a month away, still a week away as of writing this. They are all booked up and half are not even accepting new animals.
She does not drink water. At all. So I've been adding water and pumpkin to some moist kitten food. I fed her the powdered milk stuff at first. A friend gave me some cat laxative which made her "leak" all over the kitchen for 3 days straight. What a mess. I can't seem to get a happy medium.
I've been doing the best I can with her. She acts like an energetic, playful kitten most of the time. Except when it's time for her to go. I've been trying everything. Today was particularly bad. I am going to really ration the amount of food she has a each meal now, even more that I already was. Hopefully she makes it to the vet appointment next Thursday without something going wrong. I love that little thing and my other cat Cliff loves her too.
Anyway, the reason I am posting this is because I will come back and update it when this situation is remedied. I haven't been able to find much info online that pertains to this situation, so hopefully this can help someone in the future.

I never get to see my cat’s stool- as she tends to take it outside. However- her behind is sticking out. Literally. She has been diagnosed with a Urinary Tract Infection. Her bloods and kidneys were fine.
She’s starting to eat again, after I gave her the antibiotics prescribed by my vet, but she is still drinking a lot of water. It’s like she just discovered water, because she never used to drink from her bowl. 🤣
I fear she may have gotten the urinary tract infection - due to drinking from contaminated water from outside.
But recently- I have discovered her butt is sticking out. 😭 ! And I can’t tell if it is a sign of constipation. It looks like it is. I’ll definitely talk to my vet about it, on Monday.

Looked like hernia but the doctor said its a gastric, like all the problem are because of the gastric. So, I made change to meal schedule as the doctor suggest but doesnt seem any improvement. Hi Dr. Jones, my cat slowly stopped eating two days ago. I pushed him to eat a little and drink a little water and he vomitted. I took him to the vet, and they wanted to do a number of treatments. one treatment was a barium study. My cat goes to the bathroom regularly, normally. It's very obvisou when he goes because they are big poops and a good solid consistency. He doesn't strain. However, it was only over two days that he stopped eating and pooping. He vommitted food one time becasue I pushed him to eat and then vomitted water after I pushed him to drink. The vet is giving him an enima, keeping him for the day, he's going to give him fluids and other things. I only declined the barium study because the same doctor told me that my other cat had an enlarged heart and sold me all these tests and my cat was fine, $800.00 later. I want to hold off on the barium study, until I see how everything else goes. I'm sorry, I have not had the most honest encounters with vets. What do you think that I wanted to hold of on the barium study? Also, he is on perscription diet (hills i/d) and got his hands on regular food that I feed the other cats.

My kitty has the opposite problem, loose bowels all the time. I've taken her to the vet and they can't find anything wrong with her. No parasites, the blood work didn't find anything either. They suggested antibiotics and we did that for the prescribed 7 days. I wonder if cats can get ibs? I have tried prescribed food and the only food that helped was a combination of home cooked chicken breast and Hills Science Diet for older cats. The Hills food is a hairball formula and I would think that the fiber would make it worse. Also, I have a hard time getting her to eat the chicken. I'm out of ideas on how to handle this.

I'm having the same problem with my cat. She was brought up on nothing but dry food and refuses to eat can food. I've purchased numerous brands of canned food but she just won't eat it. Her stool was very dark and extremely hard. She still isn't completely better but I started giving her some of the canned food she tolerated a little. She'd nibble just a little then look up to me for the dry food. I won't give it to her. I just let her go hungry for 4 or 5 hours then I give in and give her what she wants. Her stool is still hard but it has turned brown and more litter sticks to it where at first very little litter stuck to it. I know if I take her to the vet it will be hundreds of dollars, if I'm lucky. I don't know if any of this helps but it sounds like you feed your cat only dry food. It's hard to get them off of it once they're hooked on it. I've read about spraying water on the dry food but haven't tried it. I bought some moist treats today and she ate it a little. She was find eating just dry food all her life but now she's 13-14 years old and now she's suffering from constipation. Don't know if any of this helps
