    My male cat had bad constipation. Stopped feeding him dry food, tried pumpkin and regular drugs they give cats, even small portions of human stool softeners. Nothing worked. It dawned on me that good old fashioned oat meal sent me flying to the bathroom. Tried a tsp in his wet food. Worked like a charm. Wasn't constipated again. Cooked oatmeal, not the quick kind, sometimes works better than any drug.

    Every cat is different, at the cat shelter I used to volunteer at, sometimes we would mix in some olive oil, with wet food but often cats are very aware of any thing extra being put into food...🙀
    So we would sometimes add a little coconut oil or 🫒 olive oil to some warm water and syringe orally.
    Cats may not like it but if you do it often and reward or ( even a small pinch of catnip) but do tell, them in a proper sweet vocal tone how pleased you are with them , they usually respond well to hearing how good they are 😾😇

      Wipe the oil on his paws and cat will lick it off. I spread half tsp coconut oil on my 15 yr old male cat. He licked it off last night. Put more on this morning. I'm hoping it helps but at least it got it in him.

      Yes I had the same experience with olive oil on their food. Cats know when you're helping them and will usually cooperate with some ideas. I found a syringe helpful to squirt lactulose or olive oil into their mouth and rub under their chin after to help it down.

    My 10yr/F cat has really been struggling with constipation the past few months. Have had to have 2 enemas. Switched to all wet food, she was still constipated. Spent a week giving her small doses of miralax and pumpkin and finally got 2 poops!! I was so excited lol Definitely gonna try to give her some ground flax. Love these videos

    Cats don't have wet poo in general, the older they get the more prone to constipation they get. I stop feeding dry with wet when a cat is like 4 years old. They just can't process carbs, and kibble is carbs. It took some doing, but weaning them off kibble is the best preventative to stop urinary problems and constipation problems. People opt for convenience, and kibble is convenient, but ultimately OK for dogs, not for pure carnivore cats. I put cooked old fashioned oatmeal in wet food with spring water, no constipation problems for the rest of their lives. One lived to 16, my old girl is now 18 and still going strong.

One heaping tsp of cooked Quaker old fashioned (the rough stuff) in the wet food mixed with spring water. I also put a bit of Vaseline in and around their butt. Whatever works.

      @@Meekseek such weird timing I’m literally going through this again right now. Only other time it’s happened for me. My kitty only got constipated cause of an enema due to blockage (same this time too) I’m gonna be getting hairball meds that should help and last time they had me use a tiny bit of miralax (laxative) but the main thing is just making sure she gets enough water. She won’t use a fountain so I’ve been giving her cat food soup. Tuna water with extra water has been her favorite. I’ve been trying to dilute it as much as possible cause of the salt and such. She needs as much fluids as possible though.

    Thank you so much for this video! I have been back and forth to the vet for the past 6 months with my 14 yr old male cat, first for elevated liver enzymes, then he was on Denamarin, antibiotics, steroids and Plavix. The liver enzymes finally returned to normal after 3.5 months of the meds, staying up with him day & night, adding salmon & chicken to his diet for omega 3s and protein, then he developed diabetes from the steroids. He was now on insulin for that. As he came off the steroids, we adjusted the insulin in hopes that the diabetes would resolve. Thank God it did! Once he was off the steroids, the diabetes was resolved and we stopped insulin too a few weeks later. He came off the other meds as well and then the constipation and urinary retention started. He had been urinating up to 6 times per day with the diabetes and now was only going once per day and pooping every 2-3 days. Then he was not pooping at all and needed 2 enemas and started on Miralax and lactolose and then added in Cisapride when he still was not going. I tried the pumpkin, he didn't like it. I finally went to a holistic vet who gave me a mixture that included marshmellow. I gave him one dose last night and he had a normal formed poop this morning. I cried and hugged him in celebration, but I am not fully celebrating yet because he has only been pooping once per week and this is the first poop since Friday. Today is Wednesday. I am hoping for more to come soon. I have also been encouraging him to move around more by either following me around the house just walking or playing with his string toys and really getting him moving. But thank you so much for sharing this video. It is good to know you are not alone when going through all this. As I mentioned, this has now been 6 months since this whole episode started. I live alone and am a fulltime grad student and have my own business to manage. I have not slept in 6 months and have been dehydrated and very tired myself. It is alot to deal with on your own, but he is worth every bit of it. Please, if I can ask if you know anything about the "constipation massage" and how to palpate for the bladder and colon, can you please share a video on that as I'm sure many of us are trying every way possible to help our cats and don't know where to go. I will keep the flaxseed in mind as another posible option and see if I can mix the pumpkin with his wet food. Thank you again. 💗🐈‍⬛

      @@sunilmenon6344 Hi, thanks for asking! I changed his food to human grade whole foods. It has made the world of difference for him. He is eating a brand called "The Honest Kitchen". He loves it and I do too because it's the only thing that has truely worked. He has been pooping every 1-2 days since he has started on it. the recipe is literally a Thanksgiving feast! It's chicken, chicken liver, chicken broth, pumpkin, carrots, blueberries, cranberries, dandelion greens, kelp, yucca, tumeric with all the vitamins and minerals. I am pursuing my PhD in nutrition and was very surprised that cats could eat all those types of foods. Prior to this, I kept hearing about all the plants/veggies that they could not eat. Each one of these ingredients have a purpose. It's a soupy mix with 82% moisture, so some cats may not like it. We just started this about 2 weeks ago. I'm just glad it works and he loves it. I'm still up every night until he goes.💓🐾

    Our older orange cat turns into a couch potato in the winter. I had to take him to the vet as he was horribly constipated. He would walk back and forth to his litter box but could only pee. So the vet helped him by massaging his sides and he pooped in her office. It went well for 2 days but again today he had not pooped. So we played chase the feather on a string game. Did this about 15 minutes, after the playing he pooped. 🙂 😺 😻

      Flaxseed oil works for us humans too. I buy them for the pusses and also us! I cant eat chunk cheddar cheese without downing a couple of Flaxseed oil before. Works so well I can still eat my beloved cheese! I also ordered tiny capsules that are empty, and filled them with Flaxseed oil. Doesn't do as much as the Oatmeal does, but it helps with their coats and coughing up hairballs. Sometime the easiest solution works the best!

    Our cat has had chronic constipation since we got her. She will only eat crunchies and doesn't care for canned foods. She won't lick the hairball remedies from my finger or even off of her paw! She does love to wash her paws in water after using the litter box...so cute, then drinks her water from the dog's bowl, so unable to mix a suggested laxative in water. We found a canned food that she would nibble on, and was initially effective with getting the laxative into her. Such an improvement! But...she has gotten finicky about that now, and the dog ends up lapping it up if not watched intently. At least out dog is regular! But the cat just get such HUGE stools that are hard and painful for her to pass. She won't let me help her with them, and I don't want to get bitten by forcing the issue. She is very docile and sweet, but when in this painful situation does not like to be bothered. I wish I could find a dry catfood that included a laxative. Have tried several hairball formulas without results. Anyone know of a cat food or a laxative that I could put on her dry food to help her. I feel so helpless. As a retired RN I always had to deal with patients with constipation, but I'm no veterinarian! Thanks for the videos!

    My cat was diagnosed with megacolon but only after years of horrible symptoms and treatments. We went to so many vets. Some gave her enemas some gave her laxatives some pills some lactulose. She has been so tough through it all. Her symptoms included abnormally enlarged abdomen, not resembling fat cat more so bloated looking. Straining to poop, a history of urinary problems, irregular hunger, throwing up after gorging. Lethargic and noticeably hesitant to move probably from discomfort. This last time, she ended up not pooping for almost a week. The vet diagnosed her and recommended surgery to remove to impacted feces. She now must take fiber and miralax in her food daily as well as cisapride day and night. I have to say the surgery was worth it. She is a totally different kitty! She’s super active, eating, drinking regularly. Pooping and peeing normally. Very curious and with a new lease on life🙏♥️

    Good video and nice to see your relationship with Alejandro. I used to add 5cc of lactulose using a plastic syringe into my cat Weeners mouth twice a day. He wouldn't eat it on his food but would cooperate with the syringe as he knew I was trying to help him. He was a semi long hair cat and would swallow fur when grooming which I used to try and pounce on and tell him no, but he was often too quick for me to grab the fur before he swallowed it. I miss that boy. I did read that constipation is a direct cause o death in many cats, so be on the case if you suspect this. Groom them every day and get used to feeling their body all over to understand their natural healthy state and when something is not usual, such as a hard tummy and I always look at their litter tray or where they poop outside to see the consistency and look out for hard poop or the runs.

    Please cover natural remedies for anxiety/aggressive behavior. My girl Serenity has gotten very aggressive and anxious since I took my other cat to the vet recently for a simple well visit. She's been like this since he came home. The exam room smelled of another cat's urine, so I gave him a bath thinking that was the cause of aggression, but to no avail. It has become worrisome because, tho she eats and plays ok, she has not peed or pooped in about a day. I'll be taking her to the vet, but I worry that it will make it worse under the circumstances. I'm not sure why she suddenly is acting out whenever he is near, or why she won't use the litter box. One other cat of ours has ear problems and I always know when it's time to clean his ears because she'll get aggressive with him when they start to get bad. It's the oddest thing, and I am now concerned about her future health. Please advise if you feel comfirtable doing so. Thank you.

    I have a suggestion, get one of the other sort of can openers which doesn't leave any sharp edges on the top or the bottom
    of the can, and you can pot the lid on and a little plastic wrap on top of that, works well for the fridge.

When vet massaged him and got him to eliminate- alot of crap came out.. making me start to wonder- if a build up- can go undetected for quite a while, rotting in their tummies. Lots of meds, sub q fluids, prescription food. lots of money and we cannot afford to keep it up. They finally gave us information to contact the few vets in our area who do the subtotal colectomy. Do you think there any hope left for him to be spared the surgery? I know without him being your patient you probably don't know. I feel so bad for him.

    Boy I love your vids. On this particular one though a couple suggestions -- you talk about palpitating which we really can't see and there's no explanation of what we are feeling and what would feel 'wrong'. So I palpitate my cat's upper stomach area but have no idea if what I'm feeling means anything. A second thing is - how long should a constipation problem go before it really becomes something serious. On Cornell vet website and a couple others, it says if your cat hasn't defecated in more than 48 hours, see your vet immediately. You seem here to take a little more calm approach but my cat right now hasn't defecated in at least 5 days but doesn't seem dehydrated when I pinch a fold of her tummy and is otherwise acting normal. Should I rush to see my vet (which would cost a million USD) or try some your really reasonable remedies here first and if it's the latter *then* how long should I wait after using those remedies for a few days? And, finally, more info on urinary obstruction - bcuz it seems like my cat hasn't urinated in about 2 days either - can that alone cause constipation/obstipation? (I have a litter box system that uses pine particles that when become wet turn into saw dust and sift thru holes in the bottom of the top box into a second box and I haven't seen that in a couple days - but *that* began after the apparent constipation. So just a little more specificity - how much vaseline (and would coconut oil, do just as well or better bcuz at least it's not made out of petro-chemicals and is good source of other nutrients) - how much, how often? Those are the questions I walked still having after watching this particular video. Nonetheless, ADORE your videos, your interaction w/the four-leggeds you obviously are SO at ease and peaceful with. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDS, if I had the money, I'd buy your course in a second but it's all I can do to keep my service dog on her well-balanced raw diet and to coax my cat of her all-kibble addiction to start accepting a good grade of organic cat food. You're awesome...thx

    • @CikisHelyzet
      @CikisHelyzet หลายเดือนก่อน

      Try a different litter. Pine is stinky and when I tried it even I could not tolerate it. Pellets are not comfortable tobwalk on. I’d say no peeing AND no pooping.. that’s pretty serious. Change the litter and you might get a good result immediately. Otherwise.. get to the vet

    Hey Dr Jones. My elderly cat Leo was given an enema at the vets for his constipation but he also had other chronic underlying health issues as CKD, pancreatitis & IBD. He also had a compromised immune system. My vet assured me it was completely safe & painless. All I know is after when my poor Leo came home he was never the same. Also he seemed to have sustained an injury which caused severe rectal bleeding. This made him extremely ill which he could not recover. Sadly he was euthanized the following day. I’m just baffled why this procedure was done on a elderly sick weak cat.

    • @Urhuuuur
      @Urhuuuur ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's not the enema. But what vets do after. Which is using their finger to take the poop out. Because your cat was in bad shape they probably didn't give him any sedation. Which is normally used for this procedure. It's very brutal. My cat had it done when the sedation didn't fully work yet.. but I was there, next to my cat, so I stopped it and vet had to wait a bit longer.
      Your one probably experienced all of it live, without mercy. I do not understand what happens to the young , emphatic people who just started studying because they want to become veterinarian to help sick animals. After few years Come out somewhat heartless monsters. And over time it just gets worse. Killing machines.

I’ve tried everything to get more moisture, adding water to wet, tasty broth etc but my cat just,doesn’t want to drink much right now and only eats a little and I’m pretty sure it’s due to the constipation- she’s playful and fine other than straining when she poops. His sibling in the past died after 3rd surgery to remove poop. This cat also has the tendency and had this before but it cleared up until we took him to the vet for nail clipping which included ingrown nail we hadn't seen until too late (I'm dealing with serious health Crisis for months and details got away) and a yeast infection in the ear. He was so traumatized by back nails being clipped 1st time ever but had to clip back because scratching ear, especially after medication irritated it. I wondered if extreme stress set it off again. He only eats can food or real meat occasionally. Anyway, he's miserable but no more poop surgery.. he had one ALREADY and I don't want to see him die like his brother, hunched, trying to poop and miserable. I do take my 14 yr female shorthair to vet yearly for annual xm. Nov 2018 was last visit. But could not get feces sample for oocysts or proglottids. Jan 15, 2019 my cat vomited bile and proglottids. Immediately went to vet and got Cestex. Cat seemed to resume eating and drinking. However progressively lost weight over 6weeks and became dehydrated and inappetant. Went vet, March 1.CBC and ultrasound. SubQ LR. Sludge in gallbladder. Cholesterol low in CBC. Albumin high from dehydration. Everything else normal. Was given 4 meds. PPI, amoxicllin. Using 2. Ursadiol and probiotic. Also learned how to subQ. Only had to do once. From your vids I am giving 1mL cod liver oil for inflammation. From my experience, Sodium ascorbate, for detox and possible infection. She is gaining ground. It seems we preempted hepatic lipidosis.Stopped vacs 3years ago except rabies. We live in a county with rabies incidents and we have a small farm with regular wildlife traffic. With parasites moving into SB ascending cholangitis can sneak up on a pet owner. So regular working is prudent.
