Great topic! I have a repointing tool and have gravitated to longer points over time - either 38mm or 40mm. One great benefit of the longer points is that if you use plastic trident nosecones, the longer points protect the tridents from being destroyed by the board wires. I also think it is logical to see that the longer points enable tighter grouping- as your skill level goes up.
Thanks for the comment. Spot on about the nose cones. With shorter points the nose cones get chewed up because of the spider. I also forgot to add that it's probably beneficial for those that use fatter darts to use longer points. Much easier to group 👍
So glad I found your vid! Just changed from 32 to 43mm. I've been noticing a lot more bounce outs! Nice hearing you noticed it too. I do like the longer points though. 43mm is probably the longest for me to play with. Thanks again!!

I sanded them down so much by the time I switched them out, they were 21mm. Took me a while to even get used to a new set of 32mm black coated points.
Worldwide; great review. I bought the Designa point tool over a year ago; one of my best dart supply purchases. Most of my darts have the Target Storm 30mm black smooth points now installed. I agree, the silver points don't stick as good as the black points.
I bought re pointing tool some 18 months ago from darts corner. After watching your video regarding the soft boards, I noticed my darts were entering the board up to the barrel. Took your advice and bought some 38mm points, early days
@@WorldwideDarts hi, re 38mm points. After several weeks I have grown accustomed to the longer length point. Welcome back. A lot has changed in the past 5 years or so and the biggest change is the price of darts. As you from years ago, we had to pay an arm and a leg for the "good" darts. Well at least they charged us an arm and a leg. As you saw with my other video we can now buy amazing darts for $20. Yeah, those Fansteel darts are something special. That was the first set of them I had ever seen in my life. Other than that I only saw ONE picture of them on the internet. Super rare!
Very interested in getting rid of the point to barrel head lip as you suggested in another of your videos. Are all dart points the same / a standard diameter just as dart shafts have a set standard diameter and thread pitch? Also, are the contact area of the taper of a dart point the same as at the barrel head?
Are there longer tips available on the market that smoothly connect to the barrel (like fe. Target Storm)? I've been using 41mm re-grooved Winmau points with Simon Whitlock Urban Grip darts and I'm really frustrated by the gap between point and the barrel. I'm using Trident180s plastic cones, but they are really fragile in my opinion. Could you suggest some alternatives? 35mm+ :) Thanks!
Nothing longer that I know of. You could buy the Red Dragon Trident points and use your repointing tool to remove the metal nose cones and then press those metal nose cones onto longer points
I need a 7’ point so I can just stick ‘em where I want to, lol. I know, I know, there are regulations. On the bright side, they may stay in the board, even if they fall out. OK, I’ll stop.
does changing a point length from 26mm to 33 have a significant impact on how a dart flies? I plan on putting Harrows Sabre points on a Harrows Predator dart set.
Those Frankenstein points are ludicrous but I kinda love them lol. One question for you guys though, I have been throwing my old darts, 24g unicorn purist v1, the gold phil taylor ones from back in the day. I love them, especially the grip in my arthritic hands, but after about 30 to 45 minutes my arm and shoulder starts aching like I've been at the gym. Would switching to a lighter dart or 20 to 21 gram with same or similar grip pattern be beneficial? I have a relaxed but moderately powerful throw. I've heard heavier darts are "easier" to throw, but im thinking it's a strength versus effort type of deal. Lighter darts = more effort but less strength needed and vice versa. Any info would be a great help as im looking to order some new arrows. Cheers
Hi Mike, here's my take on that... I do think that heavier darts are easier to throw but... only for a few turns or maybe even a leg or two. Heavier darts seem to be more popular in the USA but look at the format we mostly play, usually best of 3's. Imo lighter darts are more forgiving over the long run. That's why the top 32 PDC professionals use a dart that weighs 22 grams on average. Over the distance a lighter dart is easier to throw. Imagine trying to play back to back 501 best of 11's with a 26g dart. Even though it's only a few grams heavier it might possibly cause fatigue in your arm/shoulder.
